Hi Everyone, I just want to wish all of you a Happy Easter.:girl_hug: For so many of us, we are so thankful for all the great things we have in our life since we have become healthy and happy and have lost all our weight, or we are on our way of losing the weight. Each day for me is a day that I am so thrilled that I had "sleeve" surgery. We all had our reasons why we wanted to lose weight.:lightbulb: When I first started I was thinking after having sleeve surgery I thought "what if I am the one person this will not work on"?:first: I had so many failures at weight loss in my past. Now I know this is the "one" thing that will work for me forever. Enjoy Easter in a way that will make you happy. Hugs, Suzanne

Difficult time between band removal surgery and sleeve surgery...need support!
LuckOtheIrish replied to AvalonNeeCee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The only way I was able to keep all the weight off after I had the fill taken out of my band was by hitting the gym hard and often. 6-7 days/week. Did that for five months and was able to keep all the weight off. Hard, because I definitely had no restriction and could eat whatever and however much I wanted. -
Difficult time between band removal surgery and sleeve surgery...need support!

I'm scheduled for my sleeve next week???????????? I still have my band but have no fluid and the struggle is no joke!!! I have gained quite a bit in the last month too... -
Also you are doing really well with your weight loss sodon't panic too much - in all happens in due course and as long as you stop eating once you feel full or have your 'soft stop' you will be fine.

I seem to plateau for 2 weeks at a time and then seem to lose 5 pounds in three days. When people talk about average weight loss it's important to remember that it's an average over time not necessarily a steady loss from day to day.

Very interesting! I like the smaller portion option. Even before surgery I thought all restaurants served portions that were way too big. Now I try to order off of the kids menu. I have asked for smaller portions at some restaurants and have been turned down. As far as posting the nutritional information, I don't see how that will help. A lot of people are not informed enough to know what the information means. And if they don't know what it means, how can they use the information to make an informed decision on their choice of foods? Thank u for sharing! surgeversary 7/24/12, highest weight 267, surgery weight 262, current weight 216

Hi everyone. I haven't been on here for awhile. I'm having some symptoms that are really scaring me and would like some advice. Let me give you some history - I was banded July 2, 2008. I have lost 65 lbs since my pre-op diet started. I haven't been filled in one year because I have been tight and can't even eat in the morning. I had emergency surgery to correct a flipped port after being filled way too tight. I was stuck over 100 times by the surgeon under fluro to avoid surgery. It was incredibly unsuccessful - I couldn't swallow my own saliva and was vomitting every few minutes until they put me under. They couldn't put me under until they gave me meds in my IV to stop all secretions (so I would stop vomitting). Given the difficulty I had, I'll be honest, I haven't really watched what I've eaten, but my portions of everything are very small. It's almost that the difficulty helped me give up. I haven't put on any weight. Over the last month I've had some anxiety issues with panic attacks. During this time I've been written out of work by my Doctor. I've been able to eat more frequently, but still very small portions. I've had acid reflux this month (never before) and mostly at night. This is accompanied by pain in my chest and around my back. It's hard to sometimes distinguish this pain from a panic attach. I'm starting to think, however, that this may be a slipped band. My surgeon is not exactly the nicest person on the planet so I have been avoiding him. I know that's not right and will be making an appointment, but would like to hear from some of you who have had a slipped band. Any replies would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!

I have BC of Tn. Basically to me it was a game I had to play with them. Thier first requirement is that you have lost 10% of your weight under doctors care within the past 2 yrs. If you have a BMI over 40 you don't have to have any co-morbidities. If your BMI is under 40 then you have to have 3 co-morbidities...like High B/P, Diabetes, Sleep Apnea, etc. For me my BMI was over 40 with no co-morbidities. I had to go on the 10% diet. Lost the weight then my BMI was less then 40. The Dr's. office submitted it and I got denied because I don't have any co-morbidities. I gained some of that weight back within a couple of months...they resubmitted it and I got approved. Go figure!! I love my band!! Good luck. Let me know if you have any other questions.

stalled......frustrated!
COnative replied to Sky61777's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please don't get discouraged yet- this happens to almost everyone. Your body needs time to catch up to this weight loss. You are more than likely doing everything right and don't need to change a thing. I have hit so many plateaus that I lost count. I even had one that lasted a MONTH! So hang in there- that scale will be coming down again soon. Here is a great link that "Butterthebean" (a member on here) had on his signature that really helps. Check it out. http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.html -

well, I am just past my Bandiversary of 9.9.09, and quite by chance I found some notes I had made pre-LAP-BAND®. I can put a large TICK through them all:) Here is what I wrote. I I want to be healthier, and I want to prevent diabetes and other nasties. I want to sit at my desk without my stomach banging into it. I want to enjoy buying clothes again. I want to get back into my size 16 trousers. I want to look nice in dresses. I want to stop looking like a stout old trout. I want to wear skirts and not have my thighs chafing. I want to be fitter and healthier because I know my daughter worries about my health If my daughter gets married I want to look decent at the wedding. I would like to not be a fat bag when we go to Australia. I have actually managed to tick all these through. My daughter got married and I wore a fitted silk knee-length dress and looked good! I have reached my first goal of losing 60% of my excess weight. Although I am still losing, it is slow but steady. I am enjoying clothes so much more! I feel better and my self esteem has rocketed. Lets hear some more from fellow 9-09-ers.

It took quite a while for the swelling to subside. I too gained 20 lbs post-op - it was frightening - I assume you had laparoscopic surgery? If so - even though you only have a few small outside wounds - you have many stitches inside that are dissolving and healing. Your body heals by sending fluid into the area - thats why it is swollen. You should only be concerned if it is red, hot, or "weeping" otherwise time will heal it. Best of healing to you (and your stomach!)

Dr. Eduardo Gonzalas at the Surgical Weight Loss Center in Winston-Salem. Phone number is (336) 784-8299. I called and let them know I was seeing Dr Kuri and I would need fills, no problem! In-office fills with no flouro are $200. With flouro it's $300 plus 250-300 additional for hospital lab fees. He wants OR papers and any X-rays from Kuri, which should be no problem. Yay!

Hello! Just curious what people who are in this longggggg waiting period are doing to prepare. I have successfully started eating smaller, more frequent meals, am going to the gym about 4 days/week, not drinking calories, reducing sugar intake, and not eating out at restaurants. I am also starting to take Vitamins daily. However, I really need to work on getting in my 8 glasses of Water per day and weight training (I am only doing cardio right now). My surgeon's office doesn't put people on a specific diet but just focus on making small changes every couple weeks. I haven't lost any weight but I feel like eventually these changes are bound to pay off and it is a nice change to not be on a "diet" for once in my life because it gives me a chance to work on some less than healthy behaviors I have developed over the years. What is everyone else doing?

September Bandsters 2012 How Well Are You Doing

Congrats with the changes and the weight loss i was banded 9/26 down 19 pounds. No troubles at all. Stay focused -
Congrats on the weight lost CG that is truly amazing. I have thought long and hard about why folks stop losing for extended amounts of time after they have lost a significant amount of weight. I think there is a time where we have to step back and "own" our new body for a while. Like the normal person would do (not the morbidly obese person) when they want to diet. So instead of thinking of yourself as a 300ish pound person who hasn't finished losing yet. You can now think of yourself as the 185ish pound person who needs to start a new journey. I think after a bandster loses significant weight it takes time to wrap their minds around not being a truly morbidly obese person. It seems that some folks then reach a *mind* plateau for a while before they are ready to tackle that last little bit that they really want to do. So no get it in gear tips here but again a congratulations on your wonderful success and continued success. Myra

I haven't gotten a surgery date, but I believe it will be beginning of April. I can't explain how I feel..I'm very optimistic that this is what i HAVE to do.. but I am so scared. -How will I get past the pre-op diet -Will I be ok out of surgery -How much pain will i have to endure (I have 2 children and can't really stay still too long) -Will I adapt to the first month post-op (with liquids and such) -Will I loose weight? -Will I be able to not eat Carbs (like I do now). -Will I be the one with the complications from surgery? I have a phobia of feeling weak, and helpless..I hate that feeling, so I keep thinking, will I feel weak on just liquids and soft foods? Will I be able to handle this? I can't help but think all day and all night...I can't stop obsessing. A part of me is mourning things, like having a good time with a drink in my hand. Going to a family dinner and not being able to enjoy the food as I want to. I'm sad, scared and hesitant, but YET I feel I have no choice but to do this. I'm 275, 5'7 I am 39 years old............... I will be ok right??

Sooo nervous
Carlotta1 replied to hopeful2loose2014's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most people are afraid before the surgery. Of course, you are having surgery and surgery has its own risk and it is scary. But stay positive. keep yourself busy..idle mind is dangerous. :} I had the same concerns as you. Especially with this surgery. I am going to be a success with the sleeve, etc etc etc. But it seems as though your gut is telling you (like me )..this must be done. Think of it this way..at our weight prior to surgery or a pre op diet. We were at danger with our health..so what is worse..getting a tool to help you get healthier or stay unhealthy and still be in danger.. Do the best you can on your pre op diet..prepare for surgery to ensure you have the necessary things in your house for after surgery..It will here before you know it. Wishing you the best and keep us updated on your progress. Logging on to this website often will be helpful and motivational. -
When you dream...Do you dream big or small?
Roo101769 replied to RJ'S/beginning's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have had one dream being "skinny" since I started this whole process. I don't remember the content of the dream, but I remember waking up feeling excited. Since then though, I dream myself heavy. In fact, I often stop and look at myself in the mirror and say "damn". I still do not have my head around my current size. While I hope to go even lower, to reach my goal weight, my brain is still stuck on the "before" me. So....maybe if I start dreaming it I might finally believe it. -
If you have ever been around a kid for more than 5 min I am sure you have heard them say why at least twice. I was always the kid who ask why, it just does never worked on me, drove my mom nuts! Well I am still like that, I always want to know why. Since having surgery I am reading about nutrition and fitness all the time, to find out how and why my body works with food. One article I read said a calorie is a calorie and should be counted, while yes that is true, it isn't the whole picture. We all have heard and been told 200 calories from chicken is better than 200 calories of ice cream. But why is that if a calorie is a calorie? Well here is what I have figured out..... We need our protein and fiber- it helps us stay full longer. Some say hey ice cream has protein- I'll eat that, but that is where we need to know more. One of the best things I have learned is I can make my food work for me!! How awesome is that! When we eat foods high in protein, fiber and complex carbs our bodies must work harder to digest them, therefore, our bodies will will burn more calories digesting them. While I guess I knew this, it never really dinged until I read an article about that. When I did WW years ago things like fruit and veggies were hardly any points, yet they do have calories. However, your body must work harder to digest them therefore their calorie counts are almost null and in the case of veggies like Celery it is null. So now what do I do with this information..... Well, I am all about what I eat working for me rather than sticking to my hips. I am upping my fiber, making sure the carbs I take in are complex, and making sure I get my recommended protein in. I can still eat yummy food and things I love and lose weight. Yes, I will have to adjust. I highly recommend going to your favorite resturants website and looking at the nutrition part. Some like Wendy's and Burger King you can adjust the meal to see what calorie counts would be. It is amazing what just leaving off cheese or mayo can do for lowering the calories. Now I AM NOT saying eat fast food daily, but what I am saying is if you are craving that whopper - go get it, but adjust it- leave off the mayo, cheese and pickle and the calorie count will come down nicely. We (I) got to be obese by eating what I wanted and not paying attention to what I was putting in my body, but with a little nutrition knowlege we and ADJUST ourselves and our food to work for us. Holding up my water bottle..... Here's to Success!
