  1. I am 3 wks post op is sushi ok? My NUT said I could have eggs and yogurt is sushi soft enouhh with no rice??
  2. I posted something similar today too and assured by many other bandster's that this is the start of restriction and is perfectly normal... but it does feel odd! If there is pain though, which I too have experienced, it's likely that it may not have been chewed well enough or ate too fast or too much or even sometimes that food just may not agree with you... from my experience I can usually loop it back to one of those things. I was SUPER tight the first week after my 2nd fill and almost called for an unfill but then it eased up almost overnight and it has been ok since! Best of luck to you! Hugs!

    Almost there!

I had a really good visit today with my doc. Insurance has been approved, I recieved my pre-op testing orders and a price list for Optifast (2 week liquid diet required). I just have to lose five more pounds before I can be scheduled to see the surgeon. I cannot wait! Anyone else here from Deaconess Weight Loss Solutions in Evansville, IN?

    Stall..

Everybody keeps saying it will pass. But when?? Haha 2 weeks stall since 3 weeks out.. im freaking out. The scale is not my friend anymore I hate it. I am 5 weeks out and stuck at 220. My sw:256 day of surgery: 244 I hope this pass soon :'(
  5. Pork the other white meat. I dont see any reason not to eat it. I currenty make my own sausage and other dry meat products such as Procutto. Did you know if a pig is finished on Barley the meat will contain more Omeg 3 oil than salmon. To bad the pork industry doesn't finish pigs this way.
  6. I went to a seminar about December 12th, had my consultation a week later and then had my surgery on January 4th. I was a self pay so it is a much faster process. I need to loose 80lbs and I have lost 20 so far. I had my surgery on Friday and went back to work on Monday even though I was still tired. You start feeling really good around the 4th-5th day. They want you to talk to a physchiatrist to make sure you are really ready for this surgery, since it is a life changing surgery. You have to put alot of work into this surgery to make it a sucess. It is not easy believe me! Well good luck with your journey!

    Protiens 2 Weeks Before Surgery

I will be having surgery April 16, 2012. I have to do a liquid diet for 10 days....the first 7 days regular liquids (low fat/low sugar) and the last 3 days clear liquids. Being on a diet like this helps to "shrink" the liver in order for the doctor to have more room to work with in doing the lapband. I had to attend a nutrition class a few weeks ago and it explained my pre-op and post-op diet plans. Surely, you will attend a nutrition class or your doctor will talk to you about your diet.
  11. Hi Christine, I just recently had VSG surgery by Dr Aceves in Mexicali, on September 23. I highly recommend him. My insurance does not cover the surgery so I was self pay, and heard about the more affordable options in Mexico, so I did a lot of research for several months on physicians and facilities there. His program was my choice for a lot of reasons. First, because of his extensive experience with this particular surgery, and the fact that he does other surgery as well. He has performed over 600 VSG's. There are very few surgeons who have done this many. The research that I read in professional journals states that once a surgeon has performed over 300 of a particular operations, they have seen everything there is to see and their complication rate goes way down. His complication rate is lower than national averages that are reported in the literature. I did not want to see a surgeon who was "learning" on me! Secondly, the number of years he has been operating in general was important to me. He has 0ver 18 years experience with laparoscopic surgery and 10 years with bariatric surgery. Third, the surgery takes place in a full-service hospital, not a "surgery clinic", which is the case with some of the Mexican surgeons. I am safety conscious, so in the event there is a complication, I wanted to be in a hospital that had an ICU, blood bank, full service radiology dept, etc. Fourth, Dr Aceves' program also provides an internal medicine evaluation, and he has an assistant surgeon who also sees you regularly. You are visitied MULTIPLE times each day by the physicians. I have never seen such attentive care by physicians in US hospitals, and I have worked in many of them since I am an RN for over 30 years. Dr Aceves and Dr Campos in particular were outstandingly kind and attentive. Fifth, Dr Aceves does 3 leak tests before you leave. These are tests to be sure there are no leaks in your new sleeve, which is one of the more serious complications that can have. Some physicians don't do this number of tests. Dr Aceves is conservative about this and I was glad to learn it. His post-op diet is also conservative compared to many, because a more conservative approach can help prevent post-operative leaks. Sixth, the program was so user-friendly. They assign you a coordinator at the beginning who answers all your questions via phone or email. Their driver picks you up at the airport in San Diego, transports you to the hospital where pre-op labs/xrays/ekg are done; they drive you tor a nice hotel room that first night, they transport you back to the hospital for surgery the next day, you stay in the hospital for 4 days and then are taken directly to the airport on that 4th day. All this is included in the fee, which is about 1/2 what you would pay in the US. You pay your own airfare. When I missed my connecting flight due to weather, I immediately called my coordinator and she re-arranged my pick-up time, transportation, hotel reservation, and lab schedule and took care of everything. It was so easy, I did not have to worry one bit. I found the hospital to be very beautiful, and cleaner than any hospital I have ever been in. It is a private hospital, and has decor more attractive than any I have been in here in the USA. The staff are very nice, most of them speak good English, and they are very kind and attentive to your needs. If you have any questions or concerns at all, Dr. Aceves is right there to answer them and he truly listens, as does his assistant, Dr. Campos. They are especially concerned about pain control after surgery, and I have to tell you, I had very minimal pain after the surgery. I've had 3 prior surgeries in the US and the kind of pain management in this program was the very best. I received spinal anesthesia as well as general, which is recommended in some of the research literature I had read prior to deciding. It truly was amazing for pain management. It is important that you do your own research until you are comfortable with your own choice, and you can read a lot about various physicians and facilities on this website and the obesity help website too. At OH you can research how many surgeries various physicians have done. Read, read, read before you decide, so you are really comfortable with it. Best of luck to you!

    Introducing myself

Don't stress about the psych evaluation, it won't be bad at all. I started this lap band process a long time ago, and only have about eight weeks left of supervised diet to go to fulfill all the insurance requirements. I started seeing a psychologist back in June and have gone a couple times a month since then. I could have gone just once, but I thought I'd try to learn something from it. It's definitely helped me resolve some issues and I still want to go forward with the surgery more than ever! Just find out from your insurance what specific questions your psychologist needs to cover with you in their report. I just had my surgeon consult on Jan. 2nd and the lady who submits everything to insurance knew exactly what questions needed to be covered in your physician visits and your psych evaluation. But don't be afraid of the process...it's a lot of work and time consuming, but it gives you lots of time to make sure this is what you want to do. I've been going through the motions since May and I am almost there! Good luck and don't worry!

    kidney stones

My sleeve was done this last June and since then I've had to deal with kidney stones 3 times. Does anyone know or experience this being due to the sleeve? I've had 3 surgeries to blast huge ones and I'm hoping I don't have to continue fighting these

    Random Observations

This is the first of my blogs, and I hope there are more to come...just for my personal well being. I'm so far, but much closer than I've been in my entire life. Don't know what that means really. Trying to lose 15-20 pounds pre op, I've lost 5 already and thought I was on my way to a good start. I jacked it up yesterday and today...but I know I'll get back in. Of course, thanksgiving is coming up so I hope I don't slide again. Last thing I'll vent about is my home base support just doesn't get it, and that worries me. It's only been two weeks since I've began this journey and maybe they'll get it eventually...but it's hard trying to make them understand. Oh well...so much for all of that.

    Mountain (trail) biking

I would wait the 6 weeks. I started riding 2 weeks out and I can tell you the port hurts like heck and remains sore. Let the port heal properly before putting strain on the muscle that the port is attached to. Just my opinion.
  17. I'm one week post op and I feel wonderful! Went to my doctor today and I'm down 13lbs! I was just wondering if anyone had some tips on getting creative with the purée food diet. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. Hey everyone! I am new to this forum and have a few questions.:tt2: I have Aetna Open Access Plan, the surgery is excluded from my plan but if it is Medically ness. then I have a 50/50 of getting approved. I have done a 3 month supervised diet and had a consultation with the surgeon and he said that I was a canidate and also my PCP is behind me and even wrote a letter to back me has well. I have artiritis in all joints throughout my back and I have to have injections in my hip to help me walk and function clearly because the pain gets so bad. Also am a broder line diabetic which runs heavy in the family on both sides. So I was just wondering if anyone had any advice or any comments to help the stress level and fear of not being approved. I am doing this most of all for me to get healthy and to be more active with my children and husband. And have been looking into the lap band for 3 years know and have gotten to the point where it is time to do something for me! I am head strong and have done an intensive research and ready to go forward.

  22. Hi All! I've been lurking for almost a year and still don't know what to do. I'm a Mom of 4 oldest 11 youngest almost 2 and i'm FAT!! lol No surprise there then! I went for a consultation at the begining of the year and although I didn't meet the actual Dr (he had been called to an emergency) I did meet a nice Dr who said I could have lapband but thought I should give health and fitness a try again, she made me all sorts of promises of help and support including a lowcost personal trainer to come to my home three times a week. Well she never followed up.... I came out all fired up but I didn't hear from her again. So here I am fatter than ever as miserable about it as ever and wondering what to do next! I have only managed to lose 31lbs in the past (three times) and then I put it all and more back on. I lack the willpower to resist once I get a few lbs off as I am feeling better about myself and clothes are not looking soo bad. So if you have got this far have you any advice for me?? Thanks in advance. Gilly. 5'7" approx 245lbs.
  23. Never thought I would savor 1/4 c. mashed pintos with 1 T. melted jack and a little salsa. Wow, that's what 2 weeks on liquids will do. It was sooooo good!

    Swallowing difficulty

I have good days and bad days still swallowing 5 weeks later after band removal. My doctor thinks that he may need to go back in-another surgery-and take out the stitches attached to my stomach. I dread another surgery and I wonder if I will ever be normal again. Thank you for thinking of me. Private Dancer7

    Incisions

I had mine shut with glue and I was told to just leave 'em alone until the glue fell off on its own. I think it took a couple weeks to come off entirely.
