    Freakish Restriction???

Yes, bypass. It is much better now, but then, I am also relearning how to eat - to slow down and take smaller bites and much smaller portions. It has taken a while for my eyes to catch up with the new tummy. Before surgery, I had no sense of fullness. I could eat and eat and eat and never stop. The surgery has definitely given me the fullness very quickly, but I had to learn what that felt like and how to stop BEFORE feeling full, because if I ate until I was just feeling full, 10 minutes later I would be in agony. I am learning how to eat like a normal person who naturally stops when they've had enough.
  2. OK, I got approval from dr. today to have 1 scrambled egg today and basically start pureed stage tomorrow (couple of days early). I scrambled it in olive oil spray and ate it as slowly as I ever ate anything...carefully chewing it to bits. My stomach was still growling (true hunger growling) but I figured the egg would settle in and that would be that. Instead about 15 mins..maybe 10..after the last bite, I felt the restriction kick in like I had just inhaled an entire protein shake. I have never felt the restriction discomfort as I've been on full liquids and have been very cautious..but I felt it last week badly..and it was when I stupidly made one of my protein shakes into more of a 'pudding' which I should not have done. My dr. did not say 'full liquids' AND puddings...he said full liquids, sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles. I didn't even finish the entire 'pudding/shake' as it hit me suddenly I was FULL...MORE THAN FULL...OH MY GOSH IT FEELS LIKE A NOOSE AROUND MY POUCH FULL. Ended up throwing up. Was miserable...and what a lesson learned. Well, I tried to be uber careful with the egg as 'pudding-gate' is firmly entrenched in my mind. After 15 mins of eating I had that awful feeling again..not even a SUGGESTION that I'm getting 'full'..just hard core full out stop. Now it's been...4+ hrs since then and all I can still feel is that restricted feeling. Even drinking water makes my stomach hurt..is this normal? This is part of how I got so dehydrated last week. I am not even looking forward to pureed items right now as the restricted feeling has lasted afternoon into evening...I had an upper GI scan last week and no leaks observed, etc. Do some ppl have particularly 'tight restrictions'? Does that even make sense or is this normal and I should have stopped @ half an egg?
  3. Wow it's starting to get real.. Not too long now until surgery day.. Still got a few things to deal with first but it's got me a little anxious I need to start making changes soon to my diet and cut out the sugar and energy drinks soon Still got about 10 weeks to go but feels closer every day. I'm very well prepared stocked up on protein powders and tuna cans also got myself an exercise bike Got a few appointments lined up before surgery can't believe how real its feeling now and I just hope everything goes smoothly and time flies by for me so then I can begin my new life; lose weight get healthy again I'm so glad there's tons of people on this site going through the same process!! thank you all for your support!

    Bypass or Sleeve

Had the sleeve in 2017 /Converted to bypass 2019 I really don't see a difference yet between the two (except all the issues are resolved & when labs are done in a few weeks I'll compare) but as far as lifestyle... Same so far
  5. I had open Gastric Bypass in March 2003. In St Louis Missouri. That was the closest place to me that was doing the surgery. Lost 148 pounds. Kept it off for about 9 years. I gained about 90 pounds back. A week ago, Monday, August 5th, 2019 I had revision from RNY to Distal. I’ve lost 12 pounds. I’m still on liquids until Friday when I see my surgeon.
  6. I also would have been very nervous if i looked through people's food logs. I was never going to eat only protein 5x a day, i needed vegetarian options too and those by virtue are high carb/cal. I really only gave up the things my Team told me to: carbonation, alcohol (I don't drink anyway) excess sugar, then caffeine, bread pasta & rice (I dont care for pasta or rice so... NBD) for the first 6 months. And even then they gave me wiggle room for my Roman Holiday at 4 months post op. I was told sure eat pizza, but get protein too. So I ate pizza pasta & gelato nonstop for 2 weeks and pastries crossaints, fried chicken tenders and kebab for 10 more days in Paris (only the panna cotta bothered me- the fabled Parisian dumping incident). Lost weight. I made tons substitutions stateside for healthier versions of things and i will eat (or drink 😂) a salad in a min because i actually like them. But im satified that none of my choices make me anxious. I really really value that freedom. Maybe its because I've never dieted before or maybe its a personality flaw, but i find the idea of constantly dieting or diet mode after surgery not a good fit for me which is why my MPF page is super lonely these days.

    Bypass or Sleeve

My doc prefers the sleeve, he only does bypass is medically necessary I have/had history of gerd at the time, said if needed we can convert to bypass later, 17 months later I was bypass. But my gerd did improve at first with the sleeve, it wasn't until about 10-11 months that it go worse

    February 2019 Sleevers?

I have my 6 month check-up in 10 days and will be 6 months post-op the 25th. I have lost 75 pounds and am happy with it. I can fit into a booth easily now and overall feel much better. I still have 85 pounds to lose, but taking it one day at a time and hopefully can get there by 1.5 year post-op. Stay in touch everyone!

    💜AUGUST 2019 CHALLENGE💜

Checking in ... Weighed in at 126.6 this morning. So happy I have some cushion to stay under 130. Walked 1+ miles 10/12 days (thanks airports, trade show, and bar hopping 😂) 10, 11 & 12 - smiling + music + dance party Went dancing Friday and Saturday night so I think I covered all of those bases 😁 Best compliment Co-worker / good friend, whom is gorgeous and has very high standards in women, tells me in his southern drawl "Damn girl, you look amazing! You must have lost 30 lbs!" (I had lost 80 at that point)

    Before and After Pics

I am 10 months post-op, down 158 pounds. Starting BMI of almost 45 and now my BMI is right about 20! Under my ultimate goal by 14 lbs! I went to my very first club over the last weekend and felt so confident!!! So happy and excited to be here. I never thought I'd be here and it's all gone by so quickly. proud of my fellow weight loss warriors for all. your success. I figure I'll hold off on posting any more pictures until I hit that 1-year mark. Working out, maintaining and getting to my healthiest me. Sorry for the lack of "before" pics. I avoided the camera for an entire decade. Now I'm an obnoxious selfie queen! HA! Love and happiness to everyone. This is just to show it CAN BE DONE. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!

    2 month mark

Only if it'll be combined with a bot creating answers to the following: "I have lost only 4.8 lbs after 10 days! This surgery is not working!!!!!" "Does that really mean that weight loss stops after 18 months???" "My starting weight was 301 lbs - according to this table I'm supposed to lose much faster! Clearly I'm doomed!!!"
  13. Hi everyone!!! RNY scheduled for 8/19/19. I was rescheduled from 8/12/19 due to insurance wanting more info. I’m actually relieved because this extra week is giving me more time to prepare mentally & physically. I was a little freaked out last week but I’m settling in as I check more things off the list . Who else is scheduled for 8/19/19 & How are you doing? 5’2 58 yrs 235 lbs BMI 43
  14. My husband and I had VSG on 7/9 along with a hiatal hernia repair for me. We had our 1 month post op weigh in Friday. Before we had this surgery we made a pact that if we were spending all the money to do this we were not going to do the minimum we were DOING IT “like a boss”. Following the plan, working the program, working our asses off in the gym, and leaning on each other for support when we need it. The first couple weeks of surgery are HARD, mentally more so than physically. But physically sometimes it sucks too, you will have side pain sometimes, you’ll be nauseated sometimes you’ll throw up sometimes. But it’s all so worth it. Mentally your mind is racing what have I done to myself? This liquid diet sucks! Since when are there so many food commercials? You sometimes have mental cravings so strong that make you feel so desperate you might even cry. And in that low dark place you will long for the comfort of food, but food cannot comfort you anymore. It’s almost like a grieving process and it SUCKS but it gets better. Eventually if you keep saying NO ! Those cravings fade away. I’m not saying I don’t have any cravings anymore but they are few and far between and easily dismissible. I also consider myself “lucky” to have a picky pouch, if I eat a bite of something something that’s even the least bit fatty or greasy it’s coming back and I’m cool with that because it definitely makes me have zero interest in those types of things. Me, my eggs, deli turkey, turkey pepperoni, shredded chicken, string cheese, and PB 2 have become pretty good pals. For the first time in my life I eat to live instead of living to eat. We went through every step of this together from the consultations to the pre-op requirements to surgery and continue to fight this DAILY battle as a team. This surgery has already changed our life in so many ways and i have no doubt that it will continue to have such a positive impact. This surgery has changed the two of us, it has changed our marriage, our relationships with others and our lives as a whole. It’s been a wild fast ride. Neither of us have one ounce of regret this is absolutely the best decision we’ve ever made. We push each other every day and I can’t imagine having gone through this alone without that support. Surgery Day 7/9/19 - 340 & 290 lbs Friday 8/9/19 - 272 & 241 lbs Total loss since surgery- 68 & 49 lbs Loss as a couple - 117lbs

    2 week pre-op diet.

My RNY is 8/19/19 and this week I’m doing 1 meal & two shakes a day. 2 days before surgery... full liquids
  16. Hi ljmasse! 1 week from now 8/19/19! You’re 10 days after me! Good luck to both of us! I was pretty nervous & anxious about it but as it gets closer & I’ve begun to understand how to take my prescriptions, & understand everything I need to do I’m becoming more excited! How are you feeling?
  17. Hey siblings, I'm a bit bummed right now. My weight is actually up 1.5 lbs from my current 'profile weight'. I had RNY on 7/25. I've stuck to liquids like a madwoman. I've tracked intake on various days of ea week. I've averaged anywhere from 100 calories a day to 340. Ironically the 1st week after surgery I was closer to 300 calorie mark and then I had issues with nausea, feeling tight restriction even when only drinking few oz's, etc. so I dropped down to 100 calories or less for about 4 days. Ended up getting 2 bags of IV fluids last Thurs Wasn't on an IV for 24 hours, etc. I knew I'd have some 'water weight' gain from 2 bags of IV fluids but scale has not budged from current gain (Waited 3 days to weigh hoping I'd get some water off). So am almost 3 wks out with only a 10 lb loss to show. Was SO looking forward to pureed foods as I've been on liquids FOREVER, but now am terrified I'll eat pureed foods and start gaining. I plan to keep pureed (plus any shake supplementation) down to a bare minimum of calories/fat/carbs (of course protein is my main focus). Weird, while I was typing this my dr called!! Said he wants me to start taking some bites of food tomorrow. He said avocado, eggs, etc. I was like..um...puree stuff. he said 'no, real bites'. LOL..I told him I'd do whatever he asked lol...as I"m staring at HIS list for the pureed phase which I was supposed to start this Thursday. GAH! I just realized I'm posting as I'm so nervous about what will happen when I add purees (and I know tracking is crucial, at least it is to me..it gives me comfort)..and now he said 'start tomorrow'. Oh sweet baby Jesus... I am seriously so happy that my siblings are doing so well but I must admit I'm becoming very sad and bewildered.
  18. You are doing great. Try not to compare your weight loss and goals to others. It will make you crazy. We all lose at different rates. It’s not how fast, it the fact you are losing weight. Your surgery date is 5/28/19. Your only three months out? Congratulations on hitting under your programs goal by 18lbs. - Use the search on this site to see how common a third month stall is. My surgeon does not set goals for patients. I was told 60% total weight loss is the norm with the sleeve (Some lose less some lose more) Only a suggestion. Work on small goals. No need to pick a certain goal weight at this point. As you get closer to a year out, decide on a goal weight that feels healthy for you. I pulled my goal weight out of the air after looking at a BMI chart. I am a healthy weight and that is all the matters to me.

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

Honestly, if I ever had any expectation of vacation boo becoming a more solid thing, the whole damn thing would be different. But since geography and circumstances and frankly life philosophies make that practically impossible, I have a very low bar for this entire relationship. We text daily too, but I don’t hold him to any of the standards I would hold an actual boyfriend (communication wise). And when we’re together it’s good, so - live in the now! And be totally aware that if a guy comes along who is more practical, he gets the spot! But right now? This works. My clock’s not ticking and he is VERY good at MANY things, so status quo is maintainable. If I get bored I’m out, which I think is a reasonable stance when there are a lot of other asterisks in the relationship. In other news I’ve been holding steady for the last 5 months, which is fine but also has me a little concerned. I might drink too much iced coffee with cream, among other things. Steady is fine, regain is not. Every time I see this guy I lose 10 lbs, crossing my fingers that witchcraft works again...
  20. OMG!!!!!! I LOVE all these incredible pics of everyone’s hiking expeditions! Bariatric Pal & all of you are my new best friends! February 2019 Sleevers?

This month is 6 months out now for us 2019 February sleeve Surgery twins! How are we all doing? Any common problems? Everyone looking and feeling great? I am down over 90lbs. and would love to lose another 25-30 lbs. - but as expected losing is getting slower. Only negative issues for me so far; 1. I was really tired for a few months after surgery butt that is better now, much more energy than before surgery! 2. I have woken up several times at night choking on stomach acid. Not eating for a couple hours before bed, and we got a bed that props my head up a bit and that seems to have resolved that for the most part at home, however when I travel for work I tend to eat later, and stay in hotels where the beds are flat is certainly when I have the issue most often. 3. I do have some loose skin, but its not terrible... 4. I have thrown up a few times but only if I take my multivitamin on an empty sleeve... For the positives - I Look better, I sleep better, I feel better, I( have more energy, and many more! I hope you guys are all doing great - let us know!
  23. Sometimes when you play, you pay. Saturday's "Miss Adventures" landed me back 3 squares on the Candy Land game board. Oh well. It was totes worth it. But apparently my RDs advice of low residue, soft foods, full liquids/purees should be my friend for the next 2 weeks until I have my follow up with the surgeon. Today I'm firmly on board with her plan cuz I don't want another day like yesterday. 5'4" 👵 17m PO (WLM) 134.0lbs (pre-poopy) Sunday August 12 Menu: B1-6am--decaf + PP (1oz) B2-10:30am--soft scrambled egg + avocado (1 egg + 45g ew + 1tbsp sour cream + 3 evoo sprays + 52g avocado) L-3:00pm--28g bh peppermill turkey breast + protein latte (8z decaff + 2oz PP) D-7pm--herbox chicken bouillon-sodium free + 2.25oz cooked boiled shrimp BS-9pm--1bottle PP Clear Fruit Punch
