    Hard time

I also have constipation . My DR. , said it was ok to use a stool softener. It took about 12 hours but was very gentle to my body. Also there should be some solid foods you can eat. I've had the VSG and I can have low-fat or nonfat cottage cheese, low-fat cheese, plain or light yogurt, eggs scrambled puréed boil, ground chicken or ground turkey no skin moist chew to puréed consistency, fish no shellfish fruit without the skin, soft, mashed with a fork, chew to pureed consistency. Vegetables no raw, steam well, mashed with fork, chewed puréed consistency. These foods are considered my three main meals of the day. I still have to squeeze in 2 protein shakes. And drink 64 ounces of water Consult with your doctor or your doctors nutritionist I think that would be the best course of action. Good luck to you.
  2. Hi. I was sleeved on 7/31. I lost 43 lbs in the 4 week pre-op diet, gained 7 lbs while I was in the hospital, lost that and then gained 9 lbs during the full liquid stage (that was a heartbreaker!). I finally lost that. I have lost a total of 58 lbs since July 1. Rationally, I know that I have never lost 58 lbs in 10 weeks in my long history of dieting and I should be thrilled. I am measuring, counting, exercising and following the plan religiously and have only lost 13 lbs. since surgery. When you have a lot to lose, this is a little defeating. Just need some encouragement. Thanks!
  3. OK...how tall are you? Maybe 162 is a good weight for you to settle? I could only dream to be 162!! Secondly, plateaus are a real pain. When I hit one I selectively shake things up. I will stop my normal exercise routine and start doing something different. I will also up my calories for a day or two. I do believe our bodies become accustomed to what we're doing and starts becoming less efficient at losing weight. The same exercise routine over and over just trains our bodies to adapt. You probably notice that your 90 cross-country walk is no where near as challenging as it was when you started, right? Yes, that's success...better fitness. But it also means your body doesn't have to work as hard to do it. So, try some new exercises or even just try a new walking route. Using some fresh muscles in a new exercise will shock your body and it will wake up again. Also, I know some people might blast me for suggesting upping the calories but for me, at least, a day or two of eating more can also wake up my body again. Also, sometimes I switch Vitamin brands too. It probably has no scientific benefits but I feel like I get a little metabolism spark if I try a different multi-vitamin once in a while. This is just MY ideas for helping you. I feel badly that you've been stuck for 6 weeks...I'm ready to freak after two! So, I'm tossing out anything I can think of for you to consider!
  4. Hey! I am going on the 12th too. They just called in fact and moved my 3 o'clock surgery to 8:30 in the morning. Okay, I don't have anything to tell you about life after, but I will tell you that I was thinking the exact same things as you. I have three kids and don't want to risk for a moment being around them for a long time, but in reality I am sort of guaranteeing that I will be here with them a lot longer after tomorrow. I have lost and gained and lost again only to gain it all back. This will be the help we need. I am sure of this at this point. In less than 24 hours we will both be on our way to being who we REALLY are. You will be fine. I am a big chicken but am just taken it minute by minute and I am determined to have a nice nap tomorrow and wake up sore, but feeling great! Can't wait to hear how you are doing. :scared2:
  5. It really depends on what your plan allows. I was just transitioning from full liquids to purees at four weeks, and was just transitioning from purees to high protein soft foods at three months out. I wasn't allowed any raw veggies until six months out. So no, I wouldn't have been eating salad either time. Other people have less conservative plans than I did, but I do think it's unrealistic to plan for eating salads so early. Keep in mind that raw veggies are typically among the hardest things to digest and for your stomach to deal with. If I were you, I would be thinking about high protein options (salad is practically nutrionally worthless from a post-wls perspective) that are easier to digest. Things like seafood or chili are probably going to be easier on your still-healing stomach as well as providing more nutrition.
  6. This week I've been taking Tylenol Cold Multi-symptom...it's a liquid. But it makes me sick at my stomach. Any suggestions? I've tried on empty and non-empty stomach. Pre-surgery I always took Nyquil, but I heard it no longer has a decongestant (and they removed the "stuffy-head" part out of their slogan so I guess it's true).

    Delivered's Journey

April 2, 2009 189.8 I am so happy that I am continuing to make progress toward my weight loss goals. I have walked every morning this week. I am also eating a lot less (thanks to my fourth fill). I have been trying to take in more protein and make fewer bad choices. I cannot eat as many slider foods as I could prior to this most recent fill. For an example, I could eat chips and salsa, but now I cannot! Yes, it's a good thing! I am going to work hard to lose at least 7 lbs this month!

    Marriage support?

Ok, I know this sounds wrong but I need some advice..... I am by far skinny. I still weigh 228lbs. My problem is that my husband weighs 350lbs and will not do anything about it. When we got together we were both smaller. He weighed about 240. He has no control of food what so ever. He has eaten 3lbs of fudge this week and a whole pie. (we went to amish country last saturday) It makes me angry. Even before i had the surgery I had some control. I am so scared that I am going to wake up one morning and not find him attractive. He is the love of my life and my best friend. I don't want this to hurt my marriage but I also want to stay physically attracted to him. I have tried to get him to walk in the evenings with me and I cook mostly healthy meals. HELP!!

My surgeon said only walking the first four weeks but they are all different. Just check before you try it out once you've had the surgery. Have fun with it! It's killer!!

Day 14 of the pre op liquid diet

I am numb to just about everything at this point. I went to have my eyebrows waxed the other day and it hardly even hurt. It was the weirdest thing. It's kind of like my whole world is black and white. And logically I know this is all worth it. I know this will all pass and I will be fabulous. I can even say it out loud but right now it's just words. That whole BS about how it takes more muscles to frown than smile, i'd like to challenge that please. I think what i hate the most is my lack of personality. I'm flat. i wonder if this is how mentally ill people feel when they are medicated? is this the feeling that drives them to risk being off their meds? Yet i stand strong. I've been a good good girl the past few days. I'm not really hungry any more at all, i'm just so so tired. Life has not given me any breaks this past week. I've had just as much if not more going on. With the kids breaking their cells phones (both of which have to be replaced today), trying to schedule photo clients for Sept and Oct, trying to keep my disgusting house some what clean while working a gazillion hours. And now tonight, the night before surgery i have an evening filled with church meetings... But tomorrow. Ahhh tomorrow things will get underway and I will crest the hill that i've been climbing. I'm so ready for this. I'm so ready to get back to the regular me, well of course with some improvements!!! See i managed to throw in a couple exclamation points. I haven't even been able to do that the past few days. 24 hours from now things will be underway....

    3 day post OP

Congratulations and welcome to your new life! Stay connected here. Walk a lot. Karate chops on the neck and shoulder helped me. Every day you should feel a little better, not worse. Stay off the scale. It will drop but then you will gain a bit after a couple of weeks. Don't let that discourage you. Stay on plan and you will start to lose consistently. One year from now you will be amazed at your new self. This will also be a glorious summer for you. How exciting!

Birth control pills and blood clots

When I had my appendectomy last year I acquired three blood clots in my right arm after surgery, the doctors said that it was a combination of the estrogen birth control that I was taking and my weight. I’m sorry you can’t have your surgery yet but I’m SO glad you caught this before something more serious happened. If you ever need help or info about blood clots just let know, I’ve been through it all. I also have post thrombotic syndrome now in my arm because of the damage the clots did to my veins. Just keep your chin up and keep being the champ you are! ❤️❤️❤️

    Snoring

Becky: I used to snore all the time too. After I read your post, I went and asked my husband if I've been snoring and he said he doesn't recall hearing me snore since I had the surgery either, and if I do, I haven't woken him up like I used to. I lost 16 pounds before surgery, but was still snoring. Surgery was almost 3 weeks ago and have lost another 18, so that must've done it!
  16. Right now I am on liquid Proteins only. The shake I am drinking is 100 calories per serving, 20 grams of Protein, 5 carbs. I drink it 3x a day. I was told not to take in any other drinks with calories. This is only 300 calories a DAY!!! Starting next week I need the energy to teach first grade (lots of activity!!!) This last week (surgery was on Monday) I was very lethargic and slept a lot. I have not lost any weight. I am really worried that on 300 calories I will not have the energy to last the day at work. I feel ok generally, but think I should be getting at least 800 calories a day. The doctor said I should be getting 800-1000 calories a day on the band, but right now with only the shakes, I am not getting anywhere near that. I have lactose intolerance and dairy allergies so it was hard to find a shake I could drink. This has been the only one that makes me feel ok. I want to add Odwalla Superfood, Soy Protein or their other drinks to my diet. They have about 150 calories. I think if I drank 3 of these a day instead of (or with) Water or crystal light I would feel a lot better. Any thoughts????
  17. I was just curious if anyone else is working out/exercising during all of their pre-op diets and hoops that have to be jumped through. And if you do, what is your routine like? Currently, I try to make it to the gym 4-5 days a week. Usually 40 minutes of cardio, and then I switch it up strength training wise. One day upper body, one day core, one day lower, one day whole body, plus a 30 day squat challenge I started on the first. Sent from my iPhone using VST
  18. Had my surgery march 28. I'm six weeks out and down 45 lbs.

any march 2013 sleeves out here?

Me too!!! I'm still in the soft food phase. I can introduce fruits, veggies and grains back into my diet next week. I had a hard time with protein too. But I found nectar at the vitiman shopee. They have some pretty good flavors. I'm drinking crystal coolers now and it tastes like a fruity drink.
  20. Well. I've been unfilled now since June 14th. 2 weeks this past Monday. Amazingly, I've maintained my weight loss. There was a few days where I went up 3-5lbs, but since I've done a pretty good job of reminding myself to eat like I have been prior to the unfill. I've also started back to Curves because I need it to maintain the weightloss, for one, but I think I need it mentally and emotionally as much or more. This slippage and waiting to see new doctors and getting ready for all those tests etc seems to be bothering me much more emotionally than it ever has. My life is just so frustrating at times. I had so looked forward to having this fixed and being on the road to recovery starting today and being ready to get back on the road after the holiday weekend. Now, I don't even see the doc until then and this means if he feels surgery is necessary I'll have to be off during a time that my team members need me. I feel pretty guilty about that, especially since I'm sitting here doing nothing this week. Anyway, my biggest concern was that I maintain what loss I've had and so far I'm doing much better than I thought. You get used to having those training wheels, then you find out you can do it all by yourself, if you try. So.. YAY for me Leatha

    Preop to vsg question

I believe they only have 30 days to decide. It only took my insurance 3 days to approve my surgery; I think they are usually pretty good about answering within the first two weeks. So I would ask the provider's office how far are they booked out.

    Loose Skin

I actually had a breast reduction with lift. Lower body lift, back lift, butt lift with fat transfer and a arm lift. All that was after my first loss. Now I'm having a sleeve next week
  23. Well I be 3 months out on 27 of this month in I been at same weigh for week going on two I don't know what do I need get down I go to gym 4 days week when I can I try eat right I just want be at one of my golds by Feb 2013 i lose 57 pounds all ready..
  24. Sounds like a stall. You can weight it out, or just start changing things up. Eat less, eat a little more, add more exercise, add in weight training. Out bodies hit stalls when they get comfortable. I've had 2 big ones so far and I'm just now 6 monhs out.

    Approved

I met with the endocrinologist at OSU (Dr. O'Donnel). He reviewed my blood glucose logs from the past month and said everything was in the normal range. He said after surgery I would likely be off the insulin and oral meds all together, which was good news. I then had another round of blood work. Today I received a message via MyChart. My A1C had dropped from 10.1 to 7.3. The fructosomine test (shows a more current reading than the A1C) hadn't came back from the lab yet but he said that it would be even lower. He said that he had passed on his approval to move ahead with surgery. I received a call from the case manager a short time latter. She said everything was good to go and she had passed on the information to my surgeon. She said I should be getting a call this week to schedule my Pre Admission testing and surgery date. I am definitely psyched that everything is finally going forward instead of two steps back!
