    Surgery Postponed - Emotional Wreck?

I hadn't started it yet, but I am on vacation from work next week and was supposed to start it on Wednesday. So it was REALLY close. Makes me feel better to know I'm not just plain weird or crazy.

    Surgery Postponed - Emotional Wreck?

Yes it is normal especially if you have already begun your pre op diet. Its another damn week you will have to suffer it. Mine ended up being postponed 2 months and I was rocked to my core. If you are like me you will have wanted this surgery for so long, any set back is awful. After a few days of sulking and moaning, I had a serious talk with myself. We cant change it so we have to lump it, as we say in our end of the UK

    Shocked? Yes I am

Brilliant news @summerseeker!!!! I'm a week ahead of you - 7 months post op today actually - but a few pounds behind. Hopefully I'll join you soon.
  5. So I just got the call today that my surgery was going to have to be postponed a week due to the surgeons availability/schedule. Instead of July 6th, it will be July 14th. I didn't realize I was so attached to the original date. I'm sitting here silently crying because it got moved a week. When I was speaking to the scheduler on the phone, I literally felt my stomach drop when she said it. Instant depression. Can one grieve a literal DATE for something like a surgery??? I'm all kinda in my emotions and it feels really weird because of the reason why. For anyone who might have experienced a postponement - is this normal?

    Before and After Pics

Broke my stall and hit 91 lb weight loss today! So close to the 100 club! Now wearing a womans XL top (was 3/4x prior and 22 pants). I actually bought my first pair of size 34 jeans last week. Still don't believe it. The pic in the black shirt was a couple weeks pre op, I was prob about 315 lbs there...249 today. Had my bypass in February so there's still a bit left to lose but I'm finally feeling energetic and happy. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

I'm not on clears beforehand, so that has to stink. How long after do you need to be on clear? I have the opposite problem of your TMI issue. I finally broke down and took some of my post-op stool softners because I hadn't gone in a week.

    Shocked? Yes I am

I have just realised that I have joined the Hundred Club. I weighed my self this morning and forgot to log it. I am crying with joy at the minute. Last week my dietician said I was smashing it and now I truly believe I am. My surgery was only 6 months and 3 weeks ago. Tomorrow I go abroad on holiday for 2 weeks. The last few holidays I put 12 pounds on. How will WLS help me keep my down wards trend I wonder ?
  10. I had a 3 week pre op and after the first week it got so tough. I was unable to watch my husband eat or smell the food cooking. So no I wouldn't have been able to watch these challenges. I did how ever read all the posts on here of Before and after Pics. It helped with my motivation

    Full too soon after eating

I am almost 7 months out and chicken doesn't sit well with me. Every few weeks I try it again but not yet. I am ok with all the other meats but only in tiny amounts like 2 ounces. Every month sees an improvement for me. I hope you get that too.

    Weird feeling..

It is tough in the first few weeks , we all go through it. Its major surgery and we under estimate that. Lots of us have had buyers remorse in the first month but it does get better, Once you begin to getting your water and protein quota in your body things start to get on the right track and you feel better. Take things as easy as you can, be kind to yourself, have naps if you need them. If you are still having spaced out days or dont feel right ask to see your team P.S. if you are dehydrated { is your urine really dark coloured ?} you might need to go to the ER to get it put right I hope you feel better soon

    Full too soon after eating

yes - it's not uncommon for people to have trouble with chicken the first few weeks or months..
  14. I’m 9 days post op. I feel really weird. Odd. I wish I can explain it . I just feel almost like I’m in a different world. I don’t feel comfortable….. Since not eating food for about 3 weeks I feel like I miss it more than ever. I have never cared about food like that. I just ate the wrong stuff in large quantities. But now I feel I’ll never enjoy eating again. I’m barely getting liquids in for the day as well. I’m just not feeling right….

Thanks so much Arabesque I think you’re right I didn’t think about the dry part I think that me actually what it is. It’s not with salmon, or shrimp. I totally forgot about the dry part lol I have been relying solely on my chewing. My meals are basic now I don’t add much to them. I’m going to leave out chicken though for now and see how it goes for the week. again always appreciate your incredible insight.

    Full too soon after eating

Some foods can make your restriction kick in more quickly. Chicken can be a culprit as it can be dry. Does it happen with all meat proteins? If it’s just chicken or other specific proteins drop them for a couple of weeks & then see how you go. Sometimes my restriction kicks in quickly. It can occur because I’m distracted & eating a little too quickly or eating something that is too dry or heavy in my tummy. In my first year it sometimes happened if I was worried about eating when I was out or eating with people who didn’t know about the surgery. So I think being a bit stressed & holding tension set off the restriction. You may be consciously or subconsciously worried about whether you will be able to eat a meal & that sets off your restriction. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Certainly worth a chat with your medical team. I don’t think you have a stricture because you are getting some solid food down & you have no nausea & aren’t vomiting. But again talk to your team.
  17. Hi WLS family! Tried searching for this but too broad options came up. Lately when I eat meat like skinless chicken I don’t even get a few bites in and I’m having a fullness indicator. This after I’ve also chewed it to bits as well and also well before I’ve drank anything. I stop drinking 30 minutes before I eat just experiment. I don’t FEEL gassy or anything. It’s been this way for the past couple weeks. I always had a normal appetite, my stomach gets pretty upset when I don’t eat but it’s like a total letdown when I prepare, 2oz of chicken, with sweet potatoes and or salmon & vegetables and I’m full after a couple bites 😞 It’s like my stomach is getting more restricted as the days go on. Is that weird? I don’t have any heartburn or burning. I’ve heard of hernias developing but that seems too soon. trust me my appetite for sweets, bad stuff is also still very much alive lol but of course I want healthy options instead. I know it’s a dream to have the restriction and you might think I’m crazy but I do need to ensure I can get all my protein & nutrients in is all. anywho I’m 3 months out from my sleeve. Female, 44 years old, began journey at 330lbs June 2021, had VSG March 2022. Now at 250lbs. thanks in advance and I hope everyone is staying safe.

    May 2022 surgery?

I’m 6 weeks out and I’m having a really hard time. I had my follow up a couple days ago and the doctor told me I’m basically starving myself and not eating enough. I’m always nauseous and I have a really hard time wanting to eat. I’m not losing as much as I should be because I’m not eating enough. I never thought this would be my issue. Any advise?

Go surgery twin! I am day 3 post-op and feel normal. No Tylenol needed. I am struggling with the protein water. My surgeon has us do a 1 week clear liquid post op. And I’ve been more focused about hydration over the protein. Does anyone have any recommendations? I tried isopure. I can tolerate the Gatorade but it only has 10 grams and he wants me to have 30 a day. I guess I could drink 3 of those in a day.
  20. I’m just three weeks post operation and have had one fainting spell. Is this normal?
  21. I'm halfway through my 2 week pre-op diet and in the past couple of days I've discovered I enjoy watching YouTube videos of people doing food challenges. Not gross, 10 hot dogs in a minute challenges, but eating lots of food. I feel like it partially satisfies my desire to binge and also gives me some of that about-to-eat anticipation I love. And for whatever reason, it doesn't make me more hungry. I even enjoy watching them eat things that I don't eat (since I'm a vegetarian). I also like watching people do food reviews while they're eating though not quite as much. Anyone else experience this? Does this sound like a bad thing? I don't want to embed a YouTube video since the thumbnail has food, but here's an example of one I really enjoyed watching last night: Click here for food
  22. My programme only stipulated a pre-op liver-shrinking diet for 2 weeks. However, my first date for surgery got cancelled - literally the night before, so I kept on the diet (more or less) for another 6 weeks until I finally got relisted. I ended up losing 25lbs before I had my surgery and boy am I glad now that I did, because otherwise I would still have had those to lose! Best of luck with your weight loss journey and keep posting here - there is so much support and a wealth of experience.

Be very excited! I wish I had been more excited and less nervous! My surgery was Wednesday 6/8 and I already feel 25 years younger and just fabulous. I had a massive hiatal hernia repaired, gastric bypass, and gall bladder removal. This surgery was the best decision I ever made. shopping: you may be bloated from IV Fluid when you go home. I bought a pair of shoes 1/2 size larger and it’s a good thing that I did. TEGADERM PATCHES: I was able to shower 2 days post op, but you don’t want the Water beating down on the laparoscopic sites. sugar free ICE POPS: I bought about 6 boxes of these because a couple of weeks ago, they were scarce. If I wake in the middle of the night, I’ll have an ice pop. BROTH: low sodium. SMALL HAND HELD STRAINER: so you can strain cream of whatever Soup. YOUR favorite Protein Shake. Mine is premier Peanut Butter chocolate. CRYSTAL LIGHT: pick your favorite flavors. I go through this like crazy. FAIRLIFE SKIM or 1% MILK: my nutritionist told me to buy it to thin shakes, put in soup. She was right. I bought Nespresso pods and K Cups in Decaf because I do miss the taste of coffee. STOOL SOFTENER: I bought Miralax. BLOOD PRESSURE MONITOR: my surgeon wants me to monitor my bp and get in touch with my PCP when it starts to come down. I wore hospital gowns in the hospital but had some nice lounge wear for when I got home. BANDAIDS: I’m on an oral bloodthinner for a month. The tiniest scratch will bleed like you can’t believe. SUGAR FREE JELLO:  so many packs of that. B COMPLEX VITAMINS: tiny capsules…easy to swallow. I’ll let you know if I think of anything else.

    Post Surgery Dreams

All these are so good! Thank you for sharing everyone. I am 1 week post opp. I look forward to 1. No longer needing the seatbelt extender on a plane and fitting comfortably in the seats that have the solid dividers. I am wider at the hips and I would have bruising/pain and numbness for days after (especially when flying internationally). 2. Trying any sport I want! I love being active and I am competitive but to feel the freedom to be adventurous again without significant pain. HUGE 3. CLOTHES in regular stores! periodt! 4. I agree about Roller Coasters as well. I have taken that walk. 5. Not worrying about if I will fit in a chair.
  25. This may be a silly question and truthfully I'm just impatient. Anyone that has gotten any tattoos pre/post opp, what was your time frame? I'd like to get a small forearm tattoo in memory of my brother that passed a year ago. I haven't gotten my surgery date but I know they will be contacting me this week to set it up in mid-late July. I clearly don't want to risk any hold up on my surgery, but I'm also just trying to get a time frame. Any insight is appreciated. [emoji4] Sent from my SM-G991U using BariatricPal mobile app
