Hi guys! I‘m sorry if this is offensive or if this has been discussed many times before on here (I couldn‘t find any threads) but I feel like I’m going crazy and I need to talk about it. I‘m aprox. 7 months post op lost aprox. 120lbs and I‘m nearing the „goal weight“ I had 6 years ago. Logically I should be feeling amazing and I somewhat do. Like I‘m physically able to do a lot more again, which I‘m very appreciative of but somehow I feel fat. It‘s so odd. 120lbs ago I knew I was fat and I wasn‘t able to do certain things but I never felt fat. I felt fine. Now I have a „slightly overweight“ bmi and I feel super fat. Whats going on?!? I didnt do this surgery because I was unhappy with how I looked or because I felt uncomfortable. I did this surgery because my health was starting to suffer and I needed to stop yoyo dieting, which I have done all my life. I always wanted to lose weight not because I thought I had to but because people always made me feel like I did. And I hated being treated as a fat person. So living in a fat body in the privacy of my own home or around friends and family I always felt good. Now I feel disgusting and huge and fat and gross and generally not good. This is solely based on my appearance (I feel amazing physically walking, running, erc.). Why does „fat“ all of a sudden feel bad and why do I feel fat when I‘m much much lighter than I was a year ago? Anyone else have experience with this? Does this go away? I really hope it does. My theory atm is that I‘m in this weird in between stage and I have no idea how my body is being perceived by the general public. I realize this may be incredibly vain but I feel so bad I dont know whats going on. Also I‘m starting to show a lot of lose skin around my stomach, which is giving me anxiety. Maybe it‘s important my stats: 5‘8, SW/HW: 304lbs, CW: 185lbs, GW: 150 - 160lbs

BP improvement is the big reason my cardiologist wants me to have surgery. I’m on 3 BP meds. Exercise pretty regularly. And have a pacemaker and congenital defects. He said more than likely after surgery I’ll stay on 1 pill and for at least 6 months be closely monitored. When you think about why BP is higher it makes sense. By losing weight you decrease how much effort your heart has to put into just keeping you alive.

Before surgery I was on 2 blood pressure meds and was still borderline high. (130s/90s) IMMEDIATELY after surgery the hospital was only giving me 1 blood pressure med and it was perfect and has been every since. (115ish/70s) My Dr told me to check and everyday to make sure it doesnt drop under 100/60 ans if so call him right away. I hope to be off the meds after loosing some more weight. It is the only medication I am on other than preventative from the surgeon for a few months.

My pulse dropped immediately after surgery. I hadn't even lost much weight, and the resting rate dropped into the high 50s. It's stayed there, and my BPs definitely dropped quickly - I've had to cut back on two meds and I am sure I will get another cut when I go back in June.

Considering surgery but don't know where to start

If you go to that pound of cure weight loss.com site arabesque mentioned of Dr. Wieners you can view some of his videos. He has tons elsewhere but the one that would most benefit you right now is where you can view it. It’s “which weight loss surgery is right for me” and to get there just click on the menu at the top right then surgery and which surgery is right for me and the video pops up. I found all of his videos incredibly helpful. There is also information thete on self pay options. -
45 day post op /day 2 Phase 4 -still not hungry -taste is off

I know this sounds funny to say now, but enjoy it while it lasts. Because it won't. Honestly, once I got used to it, I hoped it would never end because it was so easy to lose weight when I was never hungry and didn't give a flip about food. My hunger and appetite came roaring back at about five months out, and then things got A LOT harder. For all but a very small minority of people, your hunger and interest in food WILL come back sometime during the first year. So take full advantage of this period to lose as much as you can while it's relatively easy. -
It's Been a real struggle

Gonna make some assumptions here ... You lost weight (quickly), felt great, found out early on because there was SO MUCH restriction that you could pretty much eat whatever you wanted and not gain weight because of the super small portions, quit tracking, quit weighing daily because clothes fit? Then slowly... noticed those new clothes were getting tight? If yes to all (or any) of the above.... well... life happens. Getting back on track is/was tough for me. It's easy to SAY "go back to the basics" - It's much harder to do (at least for me). My advice is to start tracking, change one thing at a time (leave one bad food that's become a habit at a time). Weigh yourself often. Don't let YOU lie to YOU. For me at least, tracking and weighing helps keep me in check. Even if it's just eating bad food one day or even multiple days (this weekend was steak quesadillas for example, but when I tracked them I was conscious of how many calories I was putting into my body and stopped at 2 pieces). Even if I get lazy and don't track, I weigh. Holds me accountable and keeps 2-3lbs from becoming 10-15lbs. Know you aren't alone in the journey - Know you're probably going to screw up. It's OK - Just let yesterday be yesterday and try to do better the next day. It's a marathon, not a sprint. -
No, i wasn't "slender", i was regluar-to-overweight when I wore my original wedding dress from almost 20 yrs ago. See first link below....It's so funny because i went through ALL my wedding pictures just now and there is NOT ONE full body shot where I am NOT wearing that wrap or have a bouquet in front of me....I guess I must have already been conscious about my size at this weight...i'm guessing I was like 140-150 or something here, slightly overweight, but not obese...yet! The second link below is a a pic of me wearing said wedding dress I posted 3 years ago, about 4 months into maintenance.

Yea with stuff like that and other lower calorie snacks and stuff I have to order a large quantity of or when they are just crazy expensive to begin with I try to think of them as medicine for my body. Because maintaining a healthy weight does help keep you healthy. That helps me justify the expense in my mind. I get it though. Hate to be stuck with a whole case of something that wasn’t cheap to begin with. Hopefully the protein powder in the soup will work out and you will be off this stage soon enough anyways. If not they may have singles of it at convenience stores??

Will I ever have my favorites again ??

Mandatory Disclaimer: this is what i did, and the results/side effects are particular to me. YMMV. With that said: Im 3.5 years out. If I wanted to, i could forgo weighing and measuring food to avoid physical discomfort…i have long since learned what my stomach likes/dislikes and how much it can hold at a time. BUT i still measure/weigh because i’m a serial food tracker/logger cuz that’s just how i roll. Its not for everyone, but its just part of everyday life for ME. Beer and Coffee: I don’t drink beer (never did), but i do drink hard liquor. I had less than 10 partial drinks during my 7 month weight loss phase, but am now a regular drinker…some may say too much, but whatevs. Coffee, i served at the hospital, and i went back to my at least daily thermos of coffee at around 1 month post op. Also, i started drinking my fave sparkling water again around the same time. I probably drink about 5-6 litres of it a week. Fave food eating: I can honestly say there is nothing that I don’t eat IF i want to eat it. Alcohol? Check. Desserts? Check. Chips? Check. Fried foods? Check. Mind u there are alot of things that WERE my faves and ate alot of pre-op that just don’t register much anymore. I’m looking at you, rice and pasta. I barely eat (nor want) rice anymore…basically only if its sushi. Same goes for pasta and bread…i mostly only eat it if Mr. makes it, and we are talking like once every couple of 1-2 months. The volume of what i consume of my “faves” though is like a fraction of what I consumed pre-op, but thats just fine with me…its all about taste anyway, not about stuffing myself. —————— All this works for ME, and may or may not be your experience as well…you won’t know until you know. P.S. I’ve been maintaining below goal weight this entire time, so i must be doing something right! 😇 -
I had the gastric sleeve done on January 15,2021... I was really good at first. Probably for the first 7-9 months I ate what I was supposed to, did my excersice like I was supposed to. Then I fell off the road. I slowly started eating badly again. I would make excuses or something like that. Then it got more and more. Now I have gained weight back on. I am finding hard to get back on track and stay with it. I beat myself up about it almost every day. I would really appreciate any kind of advice from someone else who may have gone through something similar or just anyone who might know how I can get back to it. Thank you!!! I have my fingers crossed for you. I have PCOS and while I was able to conceive my son naturally, that pregnancy jump started my PCOS and I gained all kinds of weight and couldn't lose it, then I had 10 total pregnancy losses and had to take fertility meds to have my daughter (and was never able to get pregnant again after that no matter what). I'm thankful for my son (age 24), my daughter (age 15 1/2) and my granddaughter (aged 10 months). With my daughter, my weight absolutely exploded, l and so now not only do I still have my baby weight from my son, I still have it from my daughter too. And then bad eating habits (couldn't lose the weight so I just kind of gave up) added to it and now here I am. And I have MS, so the need to get the weight off and maintain my mobility is imperative. I'm really hoping you get your date soon and get to join us on this crazy journey asap!!!!!

LOL! Monday, Tuesday…🤣…whatever! Don’t question the ‘not scared’ part…just enjoy it! I agree with you about feeling excitement at taking back your life. It’s only the past 10 years that my weight became an issue. I was underweight most of my life…I was a long distance runner. Then fertility drugs, thyroid issues, etc., etc., and ⚡️100 lbs overweight. I can’t wait to get my life back. A close friend of mine had the sleeve in October. She’s down 90 lbs and says she has never felt better. And she looks amazing! I’m so ready! No surgery date yet, but 5/16 I have a visit with the surgeon and we should be able to set a date at that appointment. I’m hoping for 6/13 or after because school is out by then. Good luck to you on Tuesday! 🤗

Well that's always a possibility, that's what I did. I had the sleeve in Dec 2016 and lost a lot of weight quickly, then I screwed up and slowly gained almost all of it back. In Nov. 2021 I had the revision to bypass and have been losing it all again, and now I know what to do and not to do in order to maintain. That said, if you never lost significant weight in the first place, that might point to other potential issues. Maybe get a second opinion from another doctor.

I try to write all and also the nutritionists can't understand why I don't lose weight

i start to feel me as a looser, the operation doesn't work, all the blood test are perfect, i'm on a diet and i do sport, but the weight don't change. it's like my body can't lose weight, and i'm starting feeling bad, i don't understand why i don't lose weight, why after three year i'm still here, with only 20 kg less. i think the operation would change my life, it was a new life to start, and it wasn't. i'm the only?

my tastes didn't really change, it just got more intense for awhile. Spicy things tasted spicier; sweet things tasted sweeter. It was temporary, though - either that, or I just got used to it. I pretty much lost my interest in food, though - as well as my sense of hunger - for about five months. Although it was weird to get used to, I wish it'd never come back. It was so much easier to lose weight when I didn't give a flip about food!

Preop diet of 4 shakes and 1 meat/veg meal starts 2 weeks prior. Happy to find a forum of friends to talk with. -
November Surgery Buddies!!!
Peonie replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've just come back from a two week trip to the US, didn't weigh while I was there, did lots of walking but totally gave myself a break with the eating and managed to put on 3lbs while I was there which was my first gain since my operation. I've managed to lose it again fairly quickly now I'm back and on plan and have just hit the 7 stone loss mark - 98lbs, which has put me dead on 200lbs - can't wait to get under that. Love reading everyone's stories! -
I did a lot of research as well & decided on the DS Sadi since it has a better long term weight loss success rate than the Sleeve. My surgery is on May 5th, so I’m currently on day 8 of my preop. My BMI is currently at 40 since I have lost some weight! My insurance thankfully approved it. 🙏 I’m getting nervous but excited.

November Surgery Buddies!!!

So, for second week in a row I'm down 1.2lbs. That feels painfully slow. I mean, it's still the right direction but, well you understand. I'm 2 weeks away to my 6 month mark. My goal was 290 by the 15th... but since I was 297 this morning, I'd predict 294. I shouldn't complain ... it's still all good. To focus on the bright side, I'm 2 weeks under 300. I'm much more active than I was 6 months ago and I'm feeling great. I'm walking at the rec center 4 to 5 days per week and hitting light weights after along with a short sweat in the sauna. Diet wise, my day looks about like this... coffee and protein shake, ... maybe an apple, 1/2 Gatorade zero and water with benefiber, maybe 1 egg around 11, tuna or chicken or egg salad for lunch, other half Gatorade zero and water with benefiber, usually fish or shrimp for dinner... or I just try to keep it reasonably healthy and on a saucer sized plate. Sometimes a late afternoon snake as well. So, the one thing I know I can do is a couple of liquid only days... that should help to jumpstart my progress again, maybe I can do that mid week this coming week. Good luck everyone. -
First Work Conference since 2019 - Surgery in 2020

It’s great that you had information to offer them not only from your own experience but From others as well. And really great that you had the courage to help reduce the stigma. It has taken me a lot of years to finally admit I have bipolar disorder because of stigma. Hopefully I will get to that same point a little sooner with WLS. So far I have only shared with people that I am really close to. I think once I am a few years out and haven’t gained it all back I will be more outspoken about it. -
Thanks for giving this time frame of 3-6 weeks. I had surgery on March 14th. I lost 20 lbs, and then I've been stalled for 4 weeks. I lost more weight before the surgery than after. It's deflating on morale. I've never seen someone say 6 weeks happens, too. I sometimes feel like I wrecked my body for no reason. It's like I'm making myself miserable in the food I can't eat with no results.

Gastric Bypass WITH stomach removal
ShoppGirl replied to Quesodip251's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Many places will do it with a BMI of 30 for self pay. It seems like I have Even heard of someone’s insurance covering it at 30 with certain comorbidities but I would not swear to that. They have done tons of studies that show people with 30 BMI are actually more successful on average with weight loss and keeping it off.
