I am with you... I have been paying insurance through my employer for 30 years... They would cover high blood pressure meds, diabetes if I had it and shoot even a heart attack but they wouldn't pay for me to get help losing weight. It's just a fact of life and i agree it stinks.

What a liberating moment for me!
ireallywannabthin posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't know what forum to post this in, so I decided to post it here. As a pre-bandster, I am anxiously looking forward to starting my new life! I can NOT wait!! For years I've been up and down in weight, bought "skinny" clothes that some years I fit in to and others I did. I always kept them so when I did fit into them. Well, after years of hoarding these "skinny" wordrobes, today I decided to take the bull by horn. I decided that it was time to throw out the OLD "skinny" wordrobe- not because I am not going to fit into them, because I know I will, but because I don't want the go back to that kind of skinny... the skinny that stayed off only for a few weeks and then I went back up. I want to buy a brand new "skinny" wordrobe after I am banded... the lasting "skinny" wordrobe that will last me forever! I don't want to fit into my old "skinny" jeans.. I want my new skinny jeans... ya know the ones that I will always fit into! It felt so liberating to say "good bye" to my old wordrobe... 6 large garbage bags of clothes are now out of my closet. I have hangers galore that are anxiously waiting for my new wordrobe to arrive!! I had to share what a magical moment this was for me today! -
I am 6 months out and I think that I messed up my sleeve:(

I would think you are probably fine, but get it checked for peace of mind. And perhaps you should up your calories to more than 800 a day. Not more than 4-6 oz in a sitting, but more calories a day could be why you are hungry. I have to eat between 1400-2000 calories a day. Yeah I'm eating all day long.... but I worked my butt off to lose the weight, now I gotta work on keeping it up a bit (due to complications as my signature shows, I've not be a "normal" sleever and lost too much this last go around due to complications, so now I'm working at keeping my weight at 135, which I am below this week). I know at one point in my journey, 800 calories wasn't doing it for me. Perhaps you are just at that stage, but I hope to read you are fine and all is good after getting it checked. Best of luck, always. -
I had my surgery on 8/7. My surgeon said to be on weight restriction of no more than 20lbs for 10 days. I have a 2 year old & it went smoothly. You should be fine by the time your mom leaves.

How soon and lower tummy
Cattitude replied to inkedupbabe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most people lose weight everywhere, though sometimes fat sticks stubbornly to small areas, usually with loose skin. When I had my gastric bypass, after I lost 160 lb. I ended up with loose skin and some fat left on my lower belly. I had a full tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), which is fat and loose skin removal from the ribs down to the pelvic area. It is also possible to have just the skin and fat from the lower belly removed (panniculectomy). Everyone is different, some find their skin tightens up nicely after weight loss, especially if they are young. I was in my 40's, had been obese for nearly 20 years, and had had a child, so my abdominal skin was looser to begin with. -
My doctor is putting on phentermine
Jessica1977 replied to mommy2kyler's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I also took Phentermine years ago, it worked well for me too..but the end result was not worth it, I gained everything back and then some! Phentermine is commonly referred to as the legal meth amphetamine. My Primary physician that recommended the lap band is totally against Phentermine, so he prescribed me Meridia in the past, which is more of a long term weight loss drug and not to mention very expensive. I lost quite a bit but again ended up gaining it all back again when I quit taking it, because I fell right back into my old eating pattern. You don't really get any energy from it, it just tricks your brain into thinking you are not hungry. -
So my boyfriend of almost eight years and we have a almost 6 yearold daughter decides to break up with me 2 days before my my surgery, right about 2 hours after telling me that he would be taking me to the hospital and waiting there with me durring my procedure. this is just great!! At first u was so sad but shortly after i realized He's actually doing me a favor because the last thing I wanted to hear was that as soon as I lost the weight I dumped him for someone else or that I changed..... Well the truth I'm changing I'm finally gonna think about me and put me first it's just to bad he's to dumb t realize he just lost the bat thing he ever had!!

Really? Really, youve got to be kidding me!
TwinsMama replied to BlueClementine's topic in Rants & Raves
Some people are so paralyzed by fear that it spills over into any conversations about that topic. Also weight is relative. It wasn't until I hit 300 lbs that people saw me as overweight. I'm almost 6 ft tall so they always say, wow, I never would have guessed it. Good for you for keeping your patience. That type of poor service is amazing. -
Haven't been on here too much! Using my tumblr blog and my fitness pal! Just wanted to update anyone that cares to listen Today I had my first fill. My surgeon said that based on my weight loss of 42lbs in 3 months (she called me a show off and an over achiever…haha) she would feel confident sending me on my way without one, but it was up to me. I told her that some days I’d been getting hungry between meals and kind of snacking so a small one may help me. She agreed. So I got my fill(painless and easy as hell), sat there for a minute and drank some water to make sure I could get it down, and got a B12 shot! I love how they make me feel! She said that I wasn’t on any dietary restrictions which kind of shocked me cuz everywhere I’ve read it’s always like 2-3 days of liquids or mushies after a fill. The only thing she said was to chew more than I normally do and take smaller bites just in case I’m swollen or irritated because everyone reacts to fills differently. I feel a little tight and a small amount of shoulder pain (kinda like what I get when I eat too fast) but other than that I’m doing great! I had brocolli cheddar soup for dinner just to be safe

At Ideal Weight 20 Years And Considering Sleeve
CowgirlJane replied to slchristians's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I eat salads, fresh fruits and veggies EVERY SINGLE DAY!!! I know that fruits are high sugar, but I love them so I eat them anyway. Alot has happened in the last decade regarding post surgery eating. I have had very detailed follow up, but I picked a practice that does that since I think that is one reason I didn't do super well with the band (among other causes!) I think you should ask the surgeon, but I had a very conservative "refeeding" program. I was on liquids and mushies longer then most becasue i was a revision and with that scar tissue, there is a higher risk of leaks - so they have you be extra careful. Here was my timeline - every surgeon is different, but I wold be suspicious if you don't have something similiar. Surgery day was 12/12/12 12/12-12/13 - Clear Liquids only 12/14-12/27 Protein liquids added (Protein drinks, strained Soup - no particles at all allowed) 12/28-1/3 Add pureed food (small curd cottage cheese, applesauce, refried Beans thinned with broth etc etc) 1/4-1/17 Mecanical soft, mushy food (must be soft enough you can smash with your tongue - add more Soups, well cooked veggies, groupd meants, flaked white fish, soft cheeses, etc) 1/18 restrictions lifted, but proceeded slowly on adding foods, as tolerated I had a very low appetite for several more months, so ate pretty limited but of course I had alot of weight to lose so it worked out great! I detest protein drinks - but honestly, for that first 6-8 weeks post op, I think you will really need them. Protein helps you heal and you will NOT be able to eat much those early times post op. I was quite restricted in food quantity for the first 2-3 months post op and you will likely lose too much weight if you don't find something liquid (and later soft foods) to supplement you. -

I have been kind of panicing these past few days, but I guess I just figure my Dr knows best... I haven't gone crazy with my eatting but I am afraid to weigh myself bc I don't want to have gained weight! -
Gain 2 pounds and surgery on 12-12-12
mokee replied to Breeg89's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Was like a yo-yo. Finally the last month the doctor said if I did not lose 4 lbs in the next month he would not operate. Well, then I lost 6. Now I am post-op 2 weeks and enjoying a 27 lbs weight loss so far. I had food funeral after food funeral. Everything that I saw that I liked I ate. I don't regret it now. I will be able to eat my favorite things again 1 day in moderation. Everyone does the nutritional part in their own way. Whatever is comfortable for you. Best of luck. -
Gain 2 pounds and surgery on 12-12-12
tzepeda replied to Breeg89's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 10 lbs first week of Pre op now have been gaining .2-.4 lbs everyday for four days. Not cheating at all. Sometimes our bodies just don't do what we want them to do. Those little gains remind me of years and years of struggles dieting and makes me want my surgery Friday even more. -
Ok hi ladies. I was banded in March of 2005. The good news is that I had, at one time, lost from 285lbs down to 150lbs. However, I got to that 150lbs because I was starving. In early 2006 after I got be around 170lbs, my band slipped and I could not eat for two weeks. I could'nt even keep water down so I had revision surgery and they fixed the slip. Since then I was so scared to get a fill so I went without one for almost a year. By this time I had gained back up to 180lbs. Gradually I started getting fills until I now, and I have 3.1 in a 4cc band. I have not had any restriction whatsoever since my last surgery. Each fill feals the same. My doctor seems to think that I am just not following the band rules and by the way I feel like a failure because I am now up to 225lbs! Omg back over 200lbs! I know this isnt as high as before and I know I can lose it but I just need my band to help me out. I know I have to work hard and I am ready to do that. I admit I have made many mistakes but I do need that little bit of help from the band to let me know I am full. My doctor won't put anymore in my band until I take a nutrition class and have an upper GI to see if it slipped again due to my history. It doesnt feel like a slip because the first time It slipped I couldnt even eat and now I can eat anything I want....I mean ANYTHING! I know just because I can, doesnt mean I should but why the hell did I get this band if it isn't going to give me some help? Ya know? Anyway, I lost 135lbs once before so I know I can lose 60lbs, I just hope it hasn't slipped again. Could it be that my pouch has stretched over time and I just need to shrink it? I was thinking maybe if I went on a liquid diet for a week or so that it might help shrink it if indeed that is the case. Anyone have any suggestions? My upper GI should be scheduled soon and I am just waiting on the DR to call me. I am on my second day of liquids and I just figured that at least this might jumpstart my weightloss....if anything.

Here are a few pics of me at me highest weight at 220 -
Well i got approved with some extra documentation. i ducked out of here because i had gone on the 2 shake diet, lost 14 lbs and then they told me I was going to have to do weight watchers for 6 months. So I compleatly wigged out because the surgery planner told me to just maintain that weight for six months. They said if; lost too much more, i wouldn't be covered. I have to be over 40 Bmi even with all my medical problems. I have never been a weight I needed to maintain...so no surprise, I now have 10 lbs to Lose again. Once my doc faxed over the proof of weigh once a month at his office, they approved it. Sooooo my pre-op class is Friday at 8 am. They are calling me back to schedule a surgery date. It could be this month, I will have to waiting and see....but I am approved. I am mad at myself for the weight gain...now I am back to shakes starting tonight since I already ate lunch. I am feeling very nervous now. I am worried I won't lose it in time...I am going to have to be close by Friday.....how am I going to lose 10 lbs by Friday? Any suggestions? I know it is my fault for reacting in this way and I know it is my responsibility to lose this weightl but I am seriouse about this...please help it you can.

OMG What an amazing 2 year ride!
Katcloudshepherd replied to NJSleeveboy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thank you for posting. It is good to know that with discipline and hard work, the surgery works as a tool to keep the weight off. I was at the point of scheduling my lap band surgery several years ago and I am glad I didn't. The lap band doesn't remove the part of the stomach that the hunger hormone, Grehlin is made in. Lap band surgery requires an incredible amount of discipline to abstain from trigger foods and sliders, consistently maintain a way of eating and to exercise religiously to keep the weight off. Despite spending seven years in the US Army, I do not have that amount of discipline. I admire those that have been successful with the lap band WLS for I know now the incredible amounts of work they have to do to lose the weight and maintain that loss. The further I get out, the slower the weight loss. The more I have to exercise and watch myself to not fall into bad habits. I think the sleeve is just a tool but it gives you months of practice in eating small amounts of food, eating Protein first, drinking enough Water and exercising so you can change your life for the better. Blessings, Kathleen -
I to have lost and gained two times in my life 80 pound the first time and 60 the second and never had any loose skin to me the trick is ensuring that you do weight training while you are losing weight. However I am the type of person who if I gain weight it is distributed all over my body and not mainly in one spot. Also lots of water helps with elasticity in the skin along with vitamins and skin firming lotions.

Hi Shawna! Yes I would love to go on this journey with you! It's hard to find someone that can relate to what I'm going through, out how I feel at this weight. Where do you live?

I'm so worried about becoming pregnant after my surgery. My hubby and I do not want anymore kids AND I don't want to gain the weight back. Do you know of anyone who got pregnant after surgery, and did the gain lots of weight back?

To me the band is forever. I could always loose weight. I lost 100 lbs 3 times in my life only to regain. I'm 43 and pre and post op have lost about 170 lbs. I do have another 50 to go but I don't have hanging skin.

Sleep Study scheduled... fingers crossed Sleep Apnea, lol!
TakeCareGirl replied to Miss Piggy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't panic if you have it. I also had to have it in order to get VSG. It came back as me having it. Soon after the surgery, as the pounds started coming off, I noticed I was not waking up catching my breath anymore - and though I haven't had another sleep study I'm 99% certain with my weight loss, I don't have it anymore. Good luck! -
Bag packed for tomorrow! I'm a firm believer in less is more when going to the hospital. I've got-Chapstick, toothbrush/paste, deodorant, brush, panties, iPhone/iPad/charger/ear buds, non-slip socks, my own pillow, my stuffed frog from my son (to keep me company if I get lonely). I'll wear what I show up in (yoga pants and a big baggy shirt). I don't take any meds, I'm not on a c-pap.... Anything important I missed??? HW 312, pre-op (lap-band) 294, pre-op (RNY) 255, surgery date 2/11/13, goal weight 154, current weight 241.6
