Congrats... sorry to hear about your complications but glad that your feeling better. I'm not able to hold protein Shakes down now so I'm a bit worried. Praying I don't have any complications. Congrats on your weight loss so far..
  2. One theory is that the body adapts and defends against further weight loss. Plus the metabolism slows down if a person loses weight quickly that's why 1 to 2 pounds a week is considered a heathy rate.

    10 months post op issues

it's common for liver enzymes to skyrocket during the rapid weight loss phase. Fast weight loss is really hard on livers. They should normalize once the weight loss slows way down. Mine were really high when I was around eight months out - but they rechecked them once I hit maintenance a few months later, and they were fine.

    10 months post op issues

I'm the same but only 4 months out. Taste changes after surgery. This can be all kinds of issues; especially if you didn't have this until just now. I had gerd 3 before the surgery and then still having gerd issues post op; even sinuses and this issue can be affected by all kinds of different gerd and heartburn issues (some can be silent). I also was very close to NASH before the surgery but now down to stage 1 with full reversal so the liver should be the last thing affected. I'm not sure how they are watching that; if there is a concern, a fibroscan, enzyme labs and eventually a possible biopsy should be the thing with the liver but numbness or any kind of issues should not be present with liver problems. Does your pcp know you had the surgery? Is there a medical weight loss center near you that does more then just the surgeries? The clinics that deal with medical weight loss AND surgeries as separate issues could possibly help you with the labs you need it more detail. This is not an issue to be worried about honestly, just something to check out.

    Green tea?

I'm with Arabesque on this. I started drinking hot green tea for the anti-oxidants. I had given up caffeine long ago and wasn't interested in re-introducing it. I have been drinking it since about 2006 and often sip on green tea all day while I work. It had no significant effect on my weight loss alone.
  6. A seven-pound gain is insignificant, particularly if it's the result of lockdown and the holidays. Don't beat yourself up about it! Early in my weight loss journey, I thought I had to be perfect all the time and would feel guilty about exceeding my calorie or carb goal for the day. I've learned that when I do make a mistake I just need to put it behind me and focus on the future. You lost 112 pounds, so you obviously know what you need to do. Forgive yourself for the seven pounds and focus on getting back on track!

    Loosing too much weight?

The same thing was happening to me at about the six month mark, and I was afraid I was going to end up being too thin and not being able to stop the weight loss. I ended up lowering my goal weight from 150 to 140, and I still ended up at 132 at about the 9-month mark. My weight stabilized there without my changing anything about my diet, and then I gained another ten pounds before landing where I am now--and I've stayed here for about nine months now. I'm definitely eating more than I was during weight loss. As Arabesque mentioned, it can be tricky to find the sweet spot where you are no longer losing or gaining. Once you do, maintenance is really quite rewarding.

    Loosing too much weight?

I added whole & multigrain snacks & a bit more fruit (twice a day instead of once). I also found by maintenance I was eating a little more. Still small portions & less than a ‘recommended portion size’ just a few more vegetables, a little more protein. Hummus on multigrain crackers is a better snack that will add some calories. I use non diet dressings on my salads too like Hop_Scotch. Have a chat with your dietician for some nutritious additions to your diet. Mine suggested enriching my milk by adding milk powder. I do this if I make chia pudding. Extra protein as well as calories. Honestly, I’ve struggled to find the right balance so I don’t lose more or gain. It doesn’t take much for me to lose & the trend to head downwards again. So don’t be surprised if it takes a while to find the right balance for you to stabilise though it may be easy for you. Good luck & congrats on your weight loss - whoo hoo!
  9. It always worries me when people ask will they still be able to eat ‘real food’ or eat like a ‘real person’. It is real food you are eating & will eat. It’s just healthier & more nutritious than you likely ate before. Remember the food you used to eat contributed to the weight you were when you decided to have surgery. You are a real person too. You just have to choose food that enables you to lose weight & then maintain your weight. But we’re all different & what works for someone else may not work for you regardless of their weight or if they’ve had surgery or not. While in the weight loss stage, especially the early stages, yes, you will be on restricted diet. But once you reach the third & fourth month post surgery you will be testing what foods your tummy will or won’t tolerate, exploring healthier food options & healthier cooking methods. Yes, your portion sizes will be small, they’ll be protein heavy & you may need to include supplements or shakes to meet your protein goals but this will settle in maintenance. You’ll still be able to eat out & socialise with friends. You just may have limited choices during your weight loss phase. I’ve been in maintenance for a year & I just eat smaller portions. (Most people eat very large servings of food that are above recommended portion sizes so your meals may seem really tiny.) I really don’t make or eat meals that are different to other people. There are foods I avoid or limit because they don’t work for me or contributed to my weight gain in the first place but I still have lots of food options. Sure I don’t eat bread, pasta or rice but there’s always alternatives on menus if you’re out. It doesn’t stop me dining out, eating with friends, or hosting dinner guests. I ensure I get all my nutrients from the food I eat not from supplements, shakes, or alternative foods like low carb breads or plant based proteins, etc. I can eat any meats, vegetables & dairy products. I can eat most fruits ( though some are a bit hard on me like mangoes). I eat small amounts of whole or multi grains. I avoid a lot of sugar & sweet foods. I don’t eat spicy foods because I have a sensitivity to them but I’ve always had that so no change there. This is what’s working for me. Congratulations on starting your journey. Good luck.

I got sleeved on the 21st and hiatal hernia repaired as well. I believe this was the worst pain I ever felt in my entire life right after coming out the operation room. Thank God! I slept through the night, and my nurses were giving me good care at the hospital. Gas pain wasn’t tough like I see lots of people have been complaining about. Walking, walking non stop at the hospital is live saver. I wish anyone who’s gonna go for weight loss surgery best of luck. Remember! Always follow your surgeon and primary doctor instructions.
  11. I can't remember if I read any books (I spent A LOT of time on the internet researching WLS, though), but some of the vets on another site I'm on are often recommending "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies" to new people. I can't really vouch for it myself, though, since I've never read it...

    Green tea?

I know green tea is promoted as an aide for weight loss but the reality has not been true for me. Believe me 17 odd years of drinking it did nothing for my weight. Lol! Maybe it does if you drink green tea instead of ice coffee or hot chocolate or carbonated drinks, etc. I started drinking it for the anti oxidants & low caffeine.

    Anyone for October 2020?

Wow! That's amazing, congrats. Mine has been kinda wierd as well. I feel like the 1st few weeks was pretty consistent weight loss then the last 3 weeks or so it's been 1-2 lbs per week, which is still good for me... but I just wanted to know if I was at least close to my fellow VSGers and seems like I am thankfully. I love the and COUNTING, that's right 💪👏
  14. Once in the maintenance phase, some eat like a normal person but just not as much. Others stick to limiting or excluding certain "trigger" foods in addition to not eating as much. I'm close to my goal weight so I will be entering the maintenance phase. I plan on eating like a normal person but will continue to monitor quantity and make sure I'm getting in my daily protein. But it's very important during the weight loss phase that you following your plan.

    Loosing too much weight?

If you want to stop or slow down weight loss you need to eat more. Determine your current calorie intake (track for a week or two), steadily increase your calorie intake by say an extra 100 to 150 calories per day for a week or two, if that doesn't slow it down, add more calories steadily until you reach a level that slows down the weight loss. Things that easily add calories without adding too much volume (though this would depend on your stomach's tolerance levels)...no diet products so no low fat or no fat foods, small handful of nuts a couple of times a day, adding an oil based dressing to salads, nut butters, an extra snack or two. Thing to bear in mind, is typically people do put on a few pounds over a period of time once they reach their lowest weight, you may want to allow yourself a buffer. So doubt be too concerned if your weight goes a little lower.

    Loosing too much weight?

Start adding whole grain carbohydrates (oats, quinoa, brown rice, and lovely grains like buckwheat, millet, teff, and amaranth.) Mixed together, these make a really nice cooked cereal, Raisins, banana and cinnamon add sweetness without sugar. You can also add more starchy veggies like sweet potatoes, butternut squash, pumpkin.) You can also start adding some small amounts of nuts and seeds. Doing these two things (complex carbs in the form of whole grains and starchy vegetables) and a small amount of nuts (raw nuts or nut butters) and seeds (raw sunflower, sesame, pumpkin, chia) will add calories to help slow the weight loss, but with a lot of nutritional bang. When I need to lose a little, I just back off the grains and nuts/seeds. It's an easy way to regulate weight without compromising nutrition. If you need to slow weight loss, just start adding them in,
  17. I’m 6 months post op and I’m afraid I’m loosing too much weight and I sometimes feel like I’m either eating too much or not enough. How do I slow down the weight loss??
  18. I was down to 284 before my first try at VSG but wasn't meant to be as Band had to come out first and took too long to remove for a safe VSG. So I knew I had to wait until after May this year for my Medicare and Supplemental was active. Well, I gained all that weight back. So 8/10/20 I contacted a health coach I knew from before and at 304 began a 3 month journey so I could have VSG by 11/30/20. By second week in November I was down 33lbs. I am now 1.2 lbs from 50 lost. Sent from my SM-J337V using BariatricPal mobile app

    Bariatric weightloss medications

I am 65 and had no problem getting the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy on 11/30/20. In fact very little pain except the incision where the cut away part is pulled out. Mine is still a little tender but not an issue. I don't trust weight loss meds. Sent from my SM-J337V using BariatricPal mobile app

    November 2020 sleevers

I've lost 40 pounds since my surgery on November 16th. I've stalled now for the last couple of weeks. After surgery my sense of smell was out of this world. To the point where certain bottled waters smelled bad to me. I'm finally drinking more water, but I know it's not enough. I'm still testing certain foods and no matter what I'm eating I can only take a few spoons full. I too am ready for more weight loss. lol. I had absolutely no pain after surgery. If I drink too quickly after eating, then my stomach quickly reminds me of the change.

    Anyone for October 2020?

Just wanting to check in and see if my weight loss is average and falling in line with others who've had VSG in October 2020. I had surgery 10/16 starting weight 213, currently at 183. Down 30 lbs. How is everyone doing?
  23. I had the band surgery May 2010. I would not recommend it to anyone as after 9 1/2 years massive scar tissue made it almost impossible to remove last October when I was to have the Sleeve surgery. It was so difficult to remove the port that four days later I developed a severe hematoma. Just too many dangers and isn't all that great for weight loss. I did finally get my VSG on 11/30/20. Revision from VSG to BP

I had a revision VSG to SADI-S Modified DS (Loop DS) 7 months ago. I read this surgery produces 85% excess weight loss on average. Sure enough, I lost 85% of my excess weight this year. We got to the point of needing surgeries due to poor nutrition. If you make a permanent change to your daily nutrition plan, you will get similar results. With the VSG 7 years ago, I lost 77% of my excess body weight then regained most of it back. I failed to establish and follow a good nutrition plan. The revision was a second chance and mal absorption helped me get where I am.

    Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?

Hey everyone! Survived the holiday, my first stall and down 32 lbs this morning. 6 weeks post op and started exercising this week. Hair shedding started right away and finally slowed a bit this week. Not noticeable unless you see my bathroom shower wall afterwards 😂. How is everyone doing?? Steamed green beans & sautéed mushrooms have been a favorite recently.
