:clap2:Hello All, There is a tasteless protein call whey. This can be mixed in anything you want. You will get your protein in whatever you eat or drink and you will like it because you choose what you put it in. Whether it be crystal lite, juice, yogurt, etc. You can buy this at GNC. Pat -
craving peanut butter...any body else??
isaviolinist replied to skeetersmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm obsessed with peanut butter. I love ANYTHING with peanut butter. I was having difficulty controlling myself with it, so I've stopped buying it pretty much. However, I do always keep a couple jars of PB2 in the pantry. Its really great for all kinds of things: mixing into shakes/puddings, making peanut sauce for salads or anything really, low cal peanut butter icing, peanut butter sauce for ice cream, peanut butter greek yogurt...Its amazing stuff. And two tablespoons only has 45 calories (as opposed to 180-190 calories in 2 tablespoons of regular PB). Anyways, peanut butter is really good in moderation. At whole foods you can grind your own PB (thus you can take as much or as little as you want, and since youre literally grinding it straight from peanuts, there isn't any sugar or salt or any other additives/chemicals). But look into PB2 - it definitely helps me with my PB craving. -

Did your Doc require a pre-op diet?
MysticstarD replied to whosthatgirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
yesterday was my 3rd day of liquid diet and I am having a bad time too. Specially feeding my family and cooking for them and not being able to eat it. When I get hungry I get a cup of yogurt or apple sauce or a shake and stay away from the kitchen as much as possible. I have lost 4 lbs already. I did medifast 2 yrs ago and it was easier than this. -
Did your Doc require a pre-op diet?
Bobp replied to whosthatgirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thanks for the reply. Yes it gets easier. I am on day 8 of 21 and I think I will make it through. Living on protien shakes, yogurt, sugar free pops and broth. Believe or not, I actually feel full (psychological??). I do not go anywhere near the cafeteria at work. The only time I think of food is in the grocery store or driving by a restaraunt with the windows rolled down. If you go out to eat and miss it, try ordering just soup and consuming just the liquid...its a stretch of the rules but can do wonders for sanity...I did that Sunday and it made me feel much better -
I like an egg scrambled with ham and onions. Or half a bagel thin with a tbsp of peanut butter and a few banana slices (this one isn't terribly low carb, but I love it). I struggle with breakfast as well, because I don't like yogurt, cheese, or cottage cheese and these seem to be staples for some. Most days I have coffee with skim milk when I get up, then a protein bar a few hours later. Good luck!

Hi guys, I just weighed in for week 2 and only lost 2lbs. I lost so much the first week, 17.5 that I expected more like 5 the second week, at least 3 or so.... Is this normal? I had no pre-surgical diet except to do Clear liquids the day before .... HELP..can I be doing something wrong already? I am still on full liquids, eating 3 shakes a day for Protein.. Muscle Milk light, made with Water.. about 140 cal per shake and eating Soup and yogurt in between.. yogurt is 100 cal and light. I'm not getting more than 4 cups water in tho.. and will try for upping it to 6 today... any input?

Sorry I haven't posted lately, but there's a bunch of drama going on at work. It's got me pretty stressed out. I was doing great after the fill, but now I'm thinking I may be too tight. I can drink liquids fine, but if I try to eat anything, it hurts. I try to eat yogurt for breakfast and I can't finish it because it hurts to eat it. Later in the day it was better, but the past few days, I can't seem to eat anything. I ordered a salad tuesday night and could only eat 2 bites. It hurt and I couldn't eat anymore. I don't lose weight well when I can't eat anything either. My body holds onto the calories I do eat and then when I can eat something, I'll gain. I want to see if I can lose some weight this week and if it'll loosen up, as it usually does as the month goes on, but if I'm still this tight on Monday, I'm going to see about a slight unfill. At least being this tight I won't be tempted to eat too much this weekend. I'm visiting my parents. I've tried to eat most of the food that is usually okay, and it all hurts. I couldn't even eat soup the other night. This is teaching me to eat MUCH slower though. I can nibble if I go extremely slow. It still hurts, but at least I've been able to get some protein down. I don't have acid reflux and don't feel any other side effects. It just hurts when I eat. Weird. Other than that, everything's going great. Well, work sucks. They are giving us a 2% pay cut due to the budget. But the boyfriend is being awesome and I'm very happy with the relationship. I've met his friends now and I think they like me. Our sleep/work schedules are out of synch, so we don't get to spend as much time together as we'd both like, but he is definitely making a big effort to see me more. I'm looking forward to the weekend. It'll be good to see my parents. I'm just dreaming about solid food!!!

Did your Doc require a pre-op diet?
bronco replied to whosthatgirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My doctor requires 3 - 3 week periods of diet. First 3 weeks is before surgery to shrink the liver and make it easier/safer to insert the band. The target is to lose 10% of the total weight and consists of 3 Slim Fast and all the vegetables you want to eat. Following surgery there are 3 weeks of clear moving to cloudy liquids. Juice, broth, popsicles, protein shake, Slim Fast (High Protein), yogurt, etc. The last three week are after the follow up visit to dietitian and surgeon. Consist of mushies, purees, cottage cheese, etc. The intent here is to allow the surgery to fully heal and prevent the band from moving or causing other problems. Then the first fill occurs and you get to "experiment" on different foods by doing lots of chewing. Doc says to eat off of a bread plate, divide it in half with one part being protein an the other complex carbohydrates (salad, vegetables, etc.) No more white bread, white rice, pasta, or high glycemic foods. My opinion is that two weeks in each phase would be sufficient, but I'm not the doc. -

A muffin or bagel for b'fast?? if they told me that, I would have gotten the biigest one I could find. And had a yogurt chaser! Ha-Ha. -
(1) It takes more than saline to cause a bandster to experience restriction, and (2) it also depends on the person's expectations of restriction. For example: (1) You will not experience restriction when eating soft and slider foods, even healthy ones like Protein shakes, yogurt, oatmeal, etc. (2) If you expect your band to sound an alarm when you have optimal restriction, you will probably miss your soft stops and other, more subtle signs of restriction.

Having to lose 14-20lbs before surgery
KristenLe replied to BeautifulSharifah's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was having yogurt and fruit for Breakfast until my body decided it had enough yogurt and I couldn't gag down even a bite. I prefer food but I haven't had any ambition to make anything to bring to work with me so I grab a protein shake (Premier Protein - 30 gms protein/160 calories) to have in the morning. I ran out so today I brought no sugar added carnation breakfast which is pretty good (not as many gms of protein though). I eat protein/veggies for lunch and dinner. -
Having to lose 14-20lbs before surgery
Armygalbonnie replied to BeautifulSharifah's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started my pre-op diet on August 1st. Before October 6th, I need to lose 10-15 lbs, but no more of I will be below 35 BMI. So... I've already lost 14 lbs! My NUT put me on the following diet and I've stuck to it. Breakfast: High Protein low car shake - Premier Snack: cheese stick, piece of fruit or low sugar greek yogurt. I could also choose 1/2 cup 2% cottage cheese with fruit, 1 oz. nuts or an egg. Lunch: 3-4 lean protein, 1-2 cups veggies Snack: Same options above Dinner: Same as lunch. Only eat whole grain carbs 2-3X a week. Drink a lot of Water. Once I gave up Diet Coke, the weight started falling off. For protein, I eat chicken, turkey burgers, fish, shrimp, tuna, eggs/egg beaters. I buy the pre-cooked chicken and steak fajita meet and put it on a green salad. Occasionally I do have nuts. There have been times when I've been hungry but it's really worked for me, so I keep doing it. I can't lose anymore weight so now that will be a challenge. I'll talk to my NUT but probably put a few carbs back into my diet. Good Luck!! -
This is my 4th day on liquids and it is much better...I did have a frozen yogurt today...but i know I have been eating under 700 calories/day. I was never really a Soup fan to begin with....so I have been adding Tapatio to all my soup to spice it up a bit. Goto my 4 hour nutrition class on Tuesday....Still looking for other people from the Los Angeles area around here.

Be strong and steady. I was very hangry [emoji6] it gets easier!! Keep your eye on the prize. I froze Greek yogurt for a treat and used unflavored protein in a lot of things to make sure I got my protein. If I got really hungry, I gulped a big cup of water and went walking. Surgery for me is tomorrow. You can do it!!! HW 303 SW 278 CW 280 GW 150 Sleeve 3/6/18

I'm only at ten weeks out, so I can't say for sure. However, some things that I used to love make me nauseated just to think about them now. I sat here one day at work last week with a box of doughnuts on my desk all day and never once was even tempted because the smell is just gross to me now. I used to LOVE doughnuts and in the past would have probably eaten 3 or 4 of them. I feel pretty much the same about any sweets now. Heck, I accidentally ate a regular greek yogurt last week with like 18 grams of sugar instead of the light ones with 7 grams and I thought I was going to die because I felt so sick afterwards.

June 29th Bypass Surgery
ashley126 replied to smrogg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's crazy how different everyone's eating regimen is. Since I got home from the hospital I've been on a liquid diet which has consisted mostly of 1oz of something every 15 minutes but 2 of those have to be water or a water substitute and the other 2 can be something like: sf jello, sf pudding, soups (liquid or creamy no chunks), protein shakes, cream of wheat, malt-o-meal, yogurt, etc. Then when I see my doctor on my 2 week follow up he will let me know if I can start soft foods. Scrambled eggs here I come! ???? I can't complain though in 6 days I've lost 15 pounds. woohoo!! How are you doing on weight loss? -
October Sleevers! Announce Yourselves

Hello Sleevetobers!!!! I was sleeved 10/25 and weighed in at 349 day of surgery. My weekly weigh in last Thursday had me at 303 pounds. Doctor has moved me onto puréed and select soft foods. I did have another surgery to remove a large keloid and skin tags on 11/15 and I had a hard time with the recovery from the surgery because of the fasting required before surgery. When I got home I felt weak and was ready to pass out. Before my wife called 911 I urged her to wait til my food got into my system. Once that happened I felt much better. This morning i was scheduled to have surgery to open my sinus passage ways so I can finally breathe through my nose again. It's gonna be nice to not be the 'fat heavy breathing' guy. So when I had surgery this morning I made sure to get my nutrition the previous two days before surgery and upped my calorie intake each day. It worked and my recovery today was fantastic. But when I stepped on the scale this morning I noticed my first weight gain since surgery of 1 pound. I just pray I didn't stunt my metabolism and will be able to continue with my weight loss. This is my last surgery that I will be having, I hope. I haven't hit any stalls yet, but I have been sticking to a low calorie intake. However, food has been so boring for me and since I'm home on disability for probably the next month, I have been playing Mr Mom. The kids love it cause I get down in the kitchen and on the grill. They've been feasting like some kings. I have cheated here and there because the stuff I've been cooking is insane. I've taken a bite a couple times, but spit it out after chewing a little bit and getting the flavor. No beef or pork yet. Does anyone else do this? It's helped but I caught myself actually swallowing a piece of biscuit I made. And the fried Jalapeño with cheese poppers I fried, well I peeled the breading off and ate the jalapeño and cheese. I felt like I had to go to confession and say 10 hail Mary's and our fathers afterwards. It's nice to read about others going through the same things that I'm going through because of the sleeve. It's tough especially since my wife is petite, skinny, and eats whatever she wants. She has a freaky metabolism. I just hope my kids have her metabolism cause they are all skinny and athletic. We don't allow them to drink soda or eat candy and have been raised like that because I didn't want obesity to become an issue in their life like it has mine. My flexibility has increased and now I can finally bend over and tie my shoes without my stomach being in the way. That is amazing cause I had to loosely tie my shoes to slip them on and always had to tie my work boots on a step or curb. I never shared this with anyone because of the embarrassment. But I wanted to yell out kinda like the kid from Big Daddy when he wiped his own arse. It took me back to that simple joy. Hope everyone else is finding these little things that are improving their quality of life like I have recently. Good luck on your journey in weight loss everyone!!! My kids and me at the MLS Cup watching LA Galaxy win back to back titles! Also Beckham's last game with the LA Galaxy. Good times!!! And I didn't have to argue with security regarding the protein shakes and yogurt I took into the stadium for my special diet. Great day!!! -

Day 2 was my worst day. But today (day 3) I'm feeling so much better. Fluids are going down much easier. I'm down almost 20 pounds from my highest weight on 9/18/12. My husband told a friend of ours that he could tell I was losing before my surgery. The best position for me was propped up on my bed. I even slept slightly propped up. I'm ready for Monday when I can start yogurt and sugar free pudding! -

I am so excited about the surgery! I went to Cosco this weekend and purchased protein powder, greek yogurt and vitamins. I picked up some Cytosport Whey protein powder (vanilla) that has 27 grams of protein and only 3 grams of carbs and 140 total calories. It was alittle pricey but it was really delicious!! I am not a big fan of this greek yogurt by itself so I will have to mix it with other products. I went to my local Market Street grocery store and purchased the PB2 powder and PB Thins! It made me fall in love with peanut butter all over again. Has anyone else been shopping and purchasing preop/post op goodies yet? Is anyone using chia seed in there preop shakes? -
I haven’t much energy right now, but I wanted to touch base before too much time went by. My surgery was at 8:30am on the 15th, and I came home (to my parent’s house) at 4pm on the 16th. The procedure went well, and I felt really good yesterday except for some very strong pain at the actual port site. Bending over to do ‘anything’ is so painful at the port! I was up & walking around very well by 6:30pm. I even went to the Lap-Band support group that happened to meet last night at the hospital. I crawled into bed at 11pm feeling so encouraged, despite the port pain. This morning at 3am, however, I woke up to pee & felt flu-ish (as if every muscle ached). I could hardly move my legs & chalked it up to sleeping the hospital bed. By 7am, when the nurse woke me to check my vitals, I couldn’t even left my head off the pillow. :sick And I had a slight fever (100.6), too. But my surgeon checked me out & said that flu-like symptoms were often a side effect of anesthesia. I feel like I’ve been hit by a Mac truck, but so be it. I left the hospital with my hubby at 1pm, dropped of my Vicoden Rx, and browsed through a discount store next to the pharmacy while waiting on the prescription. After that we came back to my folks’, I hugged on my babies (who were none the worse for my absence :-P) and took a nap. Now I’m off for my dinner of a protein shake. That is my main diet for the next 2 weeks. My clinic recommends 16-24 oz daily of protein shake made with skim milk, supplemented by plenty of water, and broth, Jell-O, pudding & yogurt for the 1st 2 weeks. Such fun! Well, my shake is gonna separate if I don’t get to it soon, so... Good luck to all of you, too!

Greek Yogurt and Cottage Cheese???
emily_0192010 replied to ashleyc's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
It is very mild, i guess similar to mozzarella cheese. Without anything added in it is not sweet, sour or tangy. It is very neutral which is why some people like it paired with fruit and jellies or jams, while other people (me!) like it with salty stuff like crackers. Now, unlike cream cheese or yogurt it is not a smooth texture but I really like it that way. Just try it! If you don't like it then you know -
