    When did you consider plastics?

I had plastics in mind when I got my initial sleeve but waited 2 years post-op to start the process, check out plastic surgeons, get quotes and make a final determination of what I need. I waited a bit more than necessary - have been within a 10 lb range for well over a year - because I wanted to really be sure that I could live with the new lifestyle long term (and avoid regaining) before committing to plastics.
  2. i was sleeved on 12/19, and gained about 6.5 lbs according to my scale the day I came home from the hospital (3 days post-op).. a couple of days after that, it dropped like a rock! I am now down 16 lbs since the surgery! I am away from home for a few days, so it will keep me off the scale, and then I have my 2 week follow up on 1/6. Good luck, and it will come off pretty quickly! Kimmie
  3. Experiencing my first stall. I know it's normal. Just curious if anybody has any tips or something they've tried to break the stall?

What made you pick VSG instead of DS?

I admit that I am not diligent enough with the massive Vitamin regimen that is required with a malabsorptive procedure. I had to choose what I could live with vs. what I knew I would fail miserably at. Losing weight is one thing, believe me, I get that. Living with vitamin counts of 20-30 pills a day is absurd in my little world, and there is no way I would do it for the rest of my life. Those same DS'ers told me I would fail miserably with a VSG only revision from my band. I had a BMI of right at 50 starting my VSG journey, and after 10 months, 138lbs lost, a BMI of 22, I'd like to say that I am by all means a success with VSG as a stand alone procedure. Plus, I wanted to have another child. Dealing with deficiencies or too high vitamin levels (which occurs with DS'ers as well) was something that I refused to deal with in pregnancy. I refused to have RNY also. The long term complications and regain stats with RNY were not in my best interest. I'm 2 years out, maintained my loss for a year before pregnancy weight started creeping in, and today myself and the baby are thriving. I do not have to take in any additional Vitamins or supplements, and have zero issues eating enough calories to support my body and another developing human. Best wishes in your research. It is very difficult to decide. I had to look at what I was willing to live with 10, 15, 20 years and beyond, not just what could get the weight off the quickest.
  5. I have found meals and Snacks that work for me- I don't have a ton of variety in my food intake. Breakfast- a low carb protien shake (I am very tight in the am.) What is the outcome?

Thank you Victoriana, I have been Obese all my life.. Like A LOT of other is the world. But, I recently got married to a wonderful and most beautiful woman. I feel its time for me to take full control of my life. So I will have time to left to spend with her.. instead of 10 to 15 years i want it to be 60 or 70 more... So I feel am Would be making the right choice to have the surgery, wheather is RNY(open or lap) or LapBand.
  7. I called my nutritionist and she told not to worry that this was the reason I wanted the surgery was to help lose. It was common for people to gain a little right before surgery. She just told me once I start the 14 day liquids I had to lose 10 pounds, she said when I go for my pre-op appointment to make sure the nurse documented my new weight so they wouldn’t think I did not lose on the 14 day liquid. She did encourage my to taper off now and try not to gain to much more before my start date that it would better for me all around.

Anyone With Prostate Or Other Cancer History?

hi GMNABAT I am a 10 year+ happy breast cancer survivor. (at that time no sleeve) I followed all the instructions my oncologist gave me - whether it was to take a new pill, chemo, or do this or that so i would survive even if i might gain weight. I'd rather be a survivor for the past 10 years,+ and live to tell about it and possibly might gain weight -than gain weight, but anable to tell my story Kathy
  9. Went to see my PCP this morning and I gained 10 pounds do you think when I see the surgeon at my preop appointment he will say anything? I don’t start my liquids until Nov 3rd. My preop is Nov 11th. I seem to be eating like I will never be allowed to eat again. I have decided to start to protein shakes a day and a small healthy dinner in the evening and see if I can make the extra ten pounds go away J I was hoping not to have to do that as I don’t want to get burnt out on the shakes before I even get the band.

low bmi loss.... 10 weeks out.

Insurance criteria has changed a lot since I started doing medical necessity review 13 years ago. Although each company is somewhat different, generalizations can be made. Back then criteria required a BMI of 40 or more and at least one uncontrolled comorbidity such as diabetes with a Hgb A1c greater than 10 or high blood pressure uncontrolled on three medications or poorly controlled sleep apnea. By the time I retired 6 years ago the criteria had changed several times & then required a BMI of 50 or more, or 40 or more at the presence of one comorbidity, or 35 or more & two or more poorly controlled comorbidities. Now criteria commonly requires a BMI of 40 or more or a BMI of 35 or more with the presence of one comorbidity. With the classification of obesity as a disease by the AMA & the increasing evidence of the effectiveness of WLS on type 2 diabetes, I would not be surprised to see criteria relax even more. I also think it will be more & more common for policies to cover WLS as insurers & employers see the financial benefits of covering WLS.
  11. For those of you who are sleeved and started with a bmi 39 or less, how much did you lose In the first 10 weeks?

    One Year Surgiversary

  14. Just a hopeful note for all the would be bandsters out there and the newbys. I never EVER thought I'd be posting something like this - I had read others' successful posts and still thought "that's them but i'll never get there". WELL... HERE I AM!!!!! I cannot believe I'm closing in on 100 pounds but it's happening! I'm so, so grateful to every one of you on this site that encourages and helps and spreads positivity. This site is wonderful and a big part of my success, I am sure of it. For anyone wanting my "tips" to the loss - here they are: It took me 5 fills and 4.5 months to feel ANY restriction. I now have 8.5ccs in 14cc band. I do not know if I'm in the green zone but I do have restriction and things get stuck and "hurt" going down when I do not chew well enough etc. This helps me psychologically because it makes me more disinterested in food (i.e., takes the "sport" or "fun" of eating away - which is what got me morbidly obese to begin with). Per my surgeon I'm at 800 calories per day - I stick to this about 85%-90% of time. I have a "cheat" day about once every week to 10 days. I go to about 1200 calories or so on that day. My surgeon and nurse care manager at health insurance both say this is actually a good idea as it keeps the body from plateauing (sp? LOL) by shaking things up a bit. I've hardly exercised - my guilty little secret is that I am waiting to "kick in" the exercise when I hit a plateau which I have not done yet. I know, I know, this is not good - it's my one "bad bandster" issue but I know I'll HAVE to do it at some point either because of a plateau or to maintain once at goal. I tell anyone that asks me how i'm losing the weight about the band (and I educate them on it when they seem interested/ask questions). This works for me because I care way too much what people think and it holds me very accountable - in other words I'd do about anything to avoid the embarassment of gaining weight when others know I had the surgery. Again, this works for me - not everyone. That's about it. YOU ARE ALL TRULY A BLESSING AND I LOVE THIS SITE. BEST OF LUCK TO US ALL ON OUR JOURNEYS!!!!!!!!!!

Loose Skin After Surgery At 20 Years Old

I am in my mid/late 40s and I wish I hadn't spent so many years yo-yo dieting and hating myself. When I was in my 20s, people were still getting their jaws wired shut to lose weight. If you have been overweight for a period of time and are willing to do the work, much of which is in your head rather than your stomach, then go for it. If you are 255 pounds at age 20, you would probably benefit a lot from the surgery rather than battling this demon for another 10 years. Heck, keep those years of your life. As a yo-yo dieter, I can tell you that for me, skin was much more forgiving when I was younger. But the loose skin is a small price to pay for being more normal in size.
  16. I had gastric sleeve surgery April 15 2019. As I write this it is April 20 (6days). I just made a big error by eating two crinkle fries ( well chewed) The first one was ok and the second was going down very very slow down my throat and I was drinking liquids to push it down. As of right now, my stomach is not in pain. My stomach feels fine. My main concern is that it feels that it is stuck further down my esophagus. I’m drinking tea and water to help it go down and I’m very scared and nervous. I totally regret it and I definitely learned my lesson. Never again! Please can anyone help ! What should I do?
  17. I'm 10 days out (had RNY on the 4th), and other than some extra sleepiness, I've been feeling pretty normal for the past few days. I have some pain still when bending down or anything that compresses my tummy, but mostly I'm doing well!
  18. Hi SLK248, I am from Mississippi and would love to share journeys with you. I am a professional woman, married with 2 adult children and scheduled for the Sleeve Feb. 11th. My highest weight was 260 and my current weight is 250 but I hope to lost 10 or 15 more pounds by surgery date. I am 5'4" and hoping to get down to 130. I am not too concerned about the numbers, just very motivated to get to a healthy weight and be able to buy clothes in a smaller cuter size. Good luck to everyone.

    Insurance wuestio

So I contacted my insurance (excellus BCBS) and asked them about coverage. The rep emailed me a copy of my policy and told me to go over it with my PCP. I have an appt with her on Thursday. My question is, once I go through the document with my doctor, To see if I meet the criteria (which I’m assuming I will) what next? Submit the request to insurance? Will my doctor know? Age 37, Mom of 2 awesome boys HW-288 lbs Started journey 4/19/18
  20. I was wondering if anyone else has problems with anxiety since surgery? I have been banded since Jan 12th and have lost 85 pounds. I have been having a lot of anxiety in the past few months and some weeks it is EVERY day! Today was one of the worst days in a long time. I was in Disneyland and all excited to get into the park and had a mental list of all the things to accomplish before going home at 2pm. Well, at 10am it started. We rode two rides and had to quit. I went full on attack at about 11 and it has been going on with little relief for almost 10 hours. The first 6 hours were MISERABLE. I have an appointment with my regular doctor and hope that he can help, on Thursday. Anyone else have these "issues"?
  21. I am so frustrated that I havent lost any weight in 2 weeks. Yes, I am only 5 weeks post-op but I started at 415 pounds. With the huge amount of weight I have to lose, after the initial big loss, I feel like I should be dropping 2-3 pounds a week. I have lost 35 including the pre-op diet. I am currently eating 800-1100 calories a day, usually about 100 grams of Protein, maybe 30 grams of fat, and usually less than 50 grams of carbs a day. Even with no fill, I am not hungry between meals. Since I was very sedentary and very out of shape prior to surgery, I have started exercising very slowly. This week I've started riding a stationary bike for 10-15 minutes a day. (I cant walk due to severe arthritis in one knee). I am also doing some "chair exercises", mostly stretching and some strength moves. I know I need to be patient and I am going to continue with the program. I just want to see results and feel thinner! Also, I am so lonely. I lost my best friend (he is a guy and I was in love with him and he didnt feel the same for me.) because he got back together with his old girlfriend from 4 years ago and now he is so in love he wants to get married. My heart couldnt take it. I was destroyed emotionally. I had to cut off all contact because I just couldnt take it anymore. We used to talk on the phone for 2 hours a day and I really miss him and our friendship. I must admit, part of my motivation for the surgery was that maybe if I lost weight he would fall in love with me. I know I'm jumping all over the place. I really just needed to get this off my chest... (((Hugs)))
  22. It really is a good deal. You can't go to just anyone in MX but you can't go to just anyone in the US either. You have to do your research. US: $9K on up, usually much higher MX: $6500 US: Surgery is done on an outpatient basis usually MX: Two nights of hospitalization US: Less experienced surgeons usually (MX has been banding people for 18 years, US is 8 years so obviously, they are going to be more experienced typically since they have been doing it 10 years longer) MX: Harder to find after care There are pros and cons to anything, people have to research and find their comfort level.

    Surgery Tomorrow!!!

My surgery is tomorrow( today- it's 1:12am) as well. I can not sleep at all! Nervous is not exactly the word to describe how I am feeling at the moment. I laid down at 10:20p and could not sleep at all. So I got up and moved to the sofa in media room and will probably stay here until 5:15 am before I start getting ready to leave for hospital. Good luck to everyone having surgery later today! I will see you on the other side. :-)
  24. Got my approval from BCBS yesterday, saw my surgeon today, scheduled for 3/01/11, of course there is a bunch of pre op appointments, endoscopy, bla bla bla.... Bottom line, Im gonna get to be skinny before 2011 ends, ok maybe not skinny, but skinny enough! I have to say a big thanks to Dr DiBenetto and his staff at Bariactrics of Western NY. There were times during this process that I was not the most pleasant person to deal with due to all the insurance denials, but Dr D's Staff, especially Lorie stuck with me and got me approved.
  25. I’m using the optisource (?) chewable and omg VOMIT! Trader Joe’s has the comparable chewable with the same same vitamins and minerals but same yuck taste. I realllly want to switch to a soft chew. Pre op I took vitafusion adult but it has no minerals! And currently taking no calcium. I’m 10 days post op.
