Post-op aversion to protein drinks?
Suzp replied to Mrs. Mercedes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am four weeks Post Op - almost immediately I just could not stomach the Protein Shakes. I hate artificial sweeteners now. I have moved on to the Genepro Protein powder. You can get a two serving sample from Amazon to try. I know Amazon and GNC sell it. Its tasteless and dissolves so you have no idea it in whatever you choose to add it to. I add it to Crystal Light Lemonade. I know there are some that add it to soups and potatoes, and all sorts of things. -
12 says post op, best I've felt, yet regret I did it

I'm sorry you are still not feeling great. When I was still in pain it was hard to tell between hunger, acid and pain. Now when I wake up after about 30 min I feel hunger and I'm recognizing that feeling. I drink 8 oz if milk/protein powder over ice and it takes me about 30-45 min. Right after I can tell I'm not hungry. But about an hour later I feel it again so I try some hot broth seems to feel full longer. The Jello was taking space and not helping with the Protein and hunger and I can only take about 4 small bites and I feel a little pain so my sleeve is full. My doctor said after about a minute and a half whatever you ate will kind of passed down and then I have another bite and keep doing it until it's been about a half an hour since you started eating. Makes you feel full longer but hard to eat so slow. Trying to figure out if you can try Greek yogurt instead of jello through the day. I eat a few bites from one yogurt a few times through the day to keep something on my stomach longer. It really helps me feel full. I am definitely not starving and the weight is just falling off. I'm also mixing two scoops of GENEPRO flavorless protein in 16 oz blender ball with crystal light powder and I drink that as my liquids but they also have protein in every sip. I can get 60 grams protein just in that 16 oz of crystal light. Hopefully getting more protein between meals can help you stay fuller longer ???? try the warmer fluids also it feels better than cold I seem fuller. Good luck! -
Protein - alternative supplements
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to rolosmom7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought genepro medical grade protein powder at GNC today. It is unflavored and is 30g of protein per serving. It has a slight taste and a bit of a protein smell but is ok. I bought it to beef up shakes and add to jello. I added it to milk without clumps and it wasnt bad. Barely noticiable. -

Fluid Intake related to slow weight loss?
Paloma68 replied to MommyMeghan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every morning I have a Premier shake (30g Protein, available at Costco). I add GENEPRO protein (30g per scoop) which I add to my shake. This means that by Breakfast, I have 60g protein. I would rather have something else for b'fast, but this is a sure way of getting the minimum protein in. Everything else thru out the day is gravy. On weekends, I sometimes make my shake and drink a little thru out the day. I do this so I can have eggs and sausage or something else besides shakes for breakfast. As far as liquid intake, I use a straw. Dr. said not to, but read a thread that many people ignored this and no ill side effects. So I have been using a straw and feel fine... Really helps with the liquid intake. -
Plain protein powder
BLERDgirl replied to nikkimapr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Isopure and GENEPRO both have unflavored varieties. I use Isopure. It's not 100% flavorless, not are. It's just there are no added flavorings and sugars. it's just pure 100% whey isolates. For me the taste is minimal. I add it too coffee, tea, Soups, yogurts, etc..... If you buy it, keep your receipt. If you don't like it you can return the unused portion. -
Day 4 post op

Does your Dr say not to use Protein drinks now? I still use protein every day. I add GENEPRO to my coffee. MJy dr doesn't have a problem with using protein to help get all of your protein in. -
Protein Supplements
Katcloudshepherd replied to laurenella82's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I use GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder. It's a smaller amount of powder and the granules are smaller. You get 30 grams of protein per tablespoon. What I like about it is the unflavored part. It does add a very small amount of milk flavor. In the summer, when it's hot, I add it to milk and the juice from a package of thawed frozen fruit. The frozen fruit I buy is ONLY the fruit. The only sugar you get is from the natural fruit. I've added it to decaffeinated coffee as well, when I was unable to drink caffeinated coffee right after surgery. In the winter, I add it to my oatmeal. I make up a package of instant oatmeal, add some coconut manna, (it's basically a coconut in a jar), add some walnuts, almonds or pecans and a dash of milk. I add stevia if it's regular oatmeal and if it's the flavored low sugar kind no sweetener. I've also added it to the low sugar hot chocolate. I had some in some Soup yesterday. It was good. Like I said it adds a slight milk taste so keep that in mind. I've never added it to any citrus flavored fruits. I wouldn't advise you to purchase a large amount of the Protein shakes before surgery as my tastes changed and I got so sick of the super sweet ones. I order it on Amazon. Good luck on your upcoming surgery. I hope you have a routine surgery and super easy recovery. Blessings, Kathleen -
I, too, use Genepro ALOT. I have noticed that even when I mix it in crystal light some of it seems to settle in the bottom. I just give it shake whenever I take a drink. However, I can see whee that wouldn't work too well in a cup of coffee. I guess I would just keep a spoon handy and give it a stir every so often. I also use it in my sugar-free pudding. SF Caramel pudding in the microwave for 20-30 seconds, mix in my Genepro, put Tbsp of cool whip on top--- YUM! Get my "sweet" snack and protein too!

Hey Everyone, My surgery is next week and I want to make sure I have everything together. Has anyone tried Genepro? Can I start Genepro week 1 after surgery in my clear liquids? Has anyone tried Genepro in just plain water? What are some clear & regular liquids that have been your favorite? I'm not crazy about Powerade Zero but I guess I can try it again. If I cant stomach it before surgery I cant imagine I will be able to after. I need some of your favorite clear liquids such as powered zero, crystal light, Mio, Etc. I also could use some ideas for the full liquids. I know which protein drinks I like but I'm lost when it comes to the best soups, fruit juices, and veg juices. Thanks for your help! PS I don't cook much so grab and go is best but will make from scratch if I need.

I also really like genepro. I tried Gatorade’s new protein water as well (it’s Gatorade zero with protein) and I really like it.

I use genepro in sugar free pudding for a high protein treat. I love it. I haven't found many other uses for it though.

2 week pre-op diet with Unjury or genepro
Andi07 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey guys. So I get migraines from stevia, truvia, aspartame, Splenda (sucralose) etc. I can't do the usual Protein prowders or shakes since the majority contain those sugars. I'm going to try GENEPRO (3 tbsp per my nurse) and unflavored unjury for the next 2 weeks. I'm thinking of doing genepro/Unjury shakes/smoothies (with low fat Greek yogurt), slushies, broth (flavored with ms. Dash) or flavored broth. Any other ideas on how to switch it up? Thanks in advance! -
Are you sure we can go this long without food?
jess9395 replied to even11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Amazon, GNC, Vitamin Shoppe all have unflavored Protein powder. GENEPRO is controversial, do a search and read the messages. I like Quest unflavored. But yeah as all have said think of survivor. We all survived, you will too! But the more sips of Protein shake you can get down, the better you will feel! -

My surgery was on 12/9. SW 285 CW 251. I am pleased with how things are going. I have been in a stall for 3 weeks, but I know this will change. I average between 700-800 calories. I feel very fortunate that I was able to find a Protein powder that I really like so I have a shake every morning. I also use Musclegen- GENEPRO unflavored powder that is 30 gr of protein for 1 tbl! This type actually mixes fine in hot liquids, so I have it in my afternoon coffee. Makes getting my protein in a lot easier! -
I have an unflavored one by Genepro but i am new at doing this.. I havent bought any of the flavored powders yet as my doctor recommended the genepro because it can be added to foods without changing flavors

Syntrax nectar Protein shake in the Cookies n Cream flavor mixed with Fairlife milk is awesome. And GENEPRO added to broth is also amazing (and can yield 30g of protein in only 4 oz of broth)
-
Hi Lisa, I used unflavored Genepro.

I am allowed to drink homemade protein shakes and I had surgery on August 4th. For example, I had genepro Fruity Oh's flavor, kefir, strawberries, banana and 2 plums. I couldn't drink it all at once but over the course of the morning, it went down. Can always call your team and ask them. My team had no problem with it. Said I can start solids now.

GENEPRO is amazing!
