I had to crush everything. I mixed it in applesauce or yogurt (of course, at that time I could barely eat a tsp.)

I did not like baby food. I pureed: Soup, chicken salad, egg salad, Wendy's chili. I also had yogurt, low fat cottage cheese, hummus. I still drank 1 Protein shake a day to help make sure I got in my Protein.

3 week post op intake issue
loridee11 replied to Dee.Lams's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tuna at 3 weeks would have been hard for me. A few things that worked well at that stage were greek yogurt (my nutritionist recommended the OIkos Triple Zero - I'd eat around 1/2 a container for a meal at 3 weeks). Cottage cheese was also good at that time, around 2 oz. I also did beans which I pureed REALLY well and added some salsa too (also pureed) to get to a more liquid texture. -
@@chycky - I like those to. I think the highest Protein yogurt is Icelandic, it's just tough to find and expensive.

I was banded on a Friday and by Sunday night I was starving...lol. I had to wait until the following Friday before I was allowed to start mushy foods. The doctor said I was probably a quick healer and thus experienced hunger sooner than others. That week felt like torture, but I made it through. At any rate, just stick with the plan. There is a reason why you are only supposed to eat soft mushy foods and that is because you are still healing. meats, etc. may not be such a great idea right now because you do not want to disrupt the healing process....not trying to sound preachy, just dont want you to disturb anything. I found that eating a scrambled egg kept me feeling full longer as well as mashed potatoes because of how dense they are. Although eating yogurt and applesauce was good, I did find myself more hungry than when I ate the other things. good luck!

I have been trying different things with my greek yogurt and came up with this! My husband even loves it, and every time I make myself a bowl, he is always commenting on how good it smells...maybe I will share one day....maybe... plain greek yogurt a few drops of lemon stevia liquid (I use Lemon Twist liquid stevia by Now foods) raspberries a few slivered almonds or granola a packet of French Vanilla powdered Stevia (I use Now brand) Mix the lemon stevia into the yogurt and blend well. Throw in your almonds. Wash your raspberries, place on top and then sprinkle with the French Vanilla Stevia (I do this because raspberries can be tart...sweetens everything up!) So delicious. I have also tried with strawberries. Good too! Any berry would probably work.

sounds AMAZING!!!! Ive been too experimenting with greek yogurt. I found that some real lemon juice, and some splenda with sliced strawberries is really tasty and a great "dessert" or snack. but your idea sound even better! whare do you get french vanilla stevia though?

Just had some yummy sugar free jello. Must say that being able to have popsicles, jello and broth kinda makes this easier. I am still not liking the taste of optifast, but I am pushing through that because I only have to put up with it for 10 more days! I like the ready made optifast shakes(vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry). They come packaged in what looks like a juice box, so its good for on the go. The optifast creamy soup is good as well and I add a little extra chicken bouillon to make it a little more palatable. The shakes that come like a powder and you have to mix is not that bad, although not my favorite. I have a little hand mixer(like the bullet), and that helps. I mix it with a little ice and ice cold water. I find it hard to make them taste as good as the alrady mixed ones. I also bought three different boxes of the optifast meal replacement bars. Chocolate (which is my favorite), Berry yogurt bar(yuck) and Chocolate peanut butter bar(double yuck). I It was pretty expensive so I kinda have to eat the disgusting ones at some point. I am going to save those for the last couple of days!! So, I have gone from 272 to 265.2 in these last four days. I feel a bit more energetic than I thought I would be. Have been cleaning my house like a mad women so everything is in its place and ready to go for post surgery. Every morning I get up, it is getting easier to get in the mind set that is needed for this diet.

I feel like I can eat pretty much anything as well (banded on Oct 29th 2 fills so far) but the things I am supposed to eat (protein vegs get stuck) but the things that keep me alive (or at the same weight) cottage cheese, yogurt, etc) go down fine. I am having a hard time with this-should I just eat stuff that gets stuck so I wont EAT?????? Maybe thats the way it works?
-
No, you should be able to eat - not just stick to slider foods. I think if you cannot eat solid Protein AT ALL that there is a problem. When you try to eat it are you being careful to eat slowly and chew chew chew? I know sometimes if I am eating out with friends or in a hurry I tend to not chew as well and then get stuck a lot more. Also just because you have had two fills doesn't mean you will have restriction yet - some folks don't until the band is full and some never need a fill at all..it is wierd how we are all different. But if you are able to eat a cup of solid protein and are hungry an hr or two later then you know you need a fill ---- at least this is what I have been told. BUT if you are eating all slider foods (yogurt, shakes, etc) and are getting hungry it is b/c it moves right thru the pouch and won't stay with you at all....so that could be a problem, too. Call your doctor - be honest with them and they should be able to help you get back on track! You can do it! Kim

In a blender....I start with 100% whey...25gm, then I add "Pro-Stat 64" a sugar free pure liquid Protein, 30ml (shot glass) for 15gm..... Mixed with 8oz Water or skim milk if you prefer, add your favorite fresh fruit, Peanut Butter, banana, just about anything you can imagine...even coffee....summertime add a ice cube...can also add yogurt or ice cream....and also non thickening Fiber powder.....always below 300 calories total......no solid Breakfast can match it....and I feel, the advantages all day, can tell when I miss one... I've been doing this for some time...and it was not because of the band...it was recommended by my cardiologist to name just one... When I got banded, it became a daily practice since post-op....

Good Sources of Carbs
SummerTimeGirl replied to GummyBearQueen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on soft stage too. Mine seem to come from chili w/beans, my greek non fat yogurt, cottage cheese doubles, and unsweetened applesauce thus far. But I'm still under 30 most days too. -
Traveling in week 6 - what to expect
NLWC.Christa replied to PamelaAM's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I'm 3 weeks post-op and traveled this weekend with my mom, aunt and sister. I portioned some Protein powder into individual serving ziploc bags and chose yogurts for breakfast. At restaurants I often had egg beaters or Soup. One restaurant we chose had a crab cake entree that was only lightly breaded, and had very little bready filler. I just picked off the crusty edges. Basically, I tried to stick to soft foods that were good sources of protein. Of course, traveling with my own personal band of food nazis made it easier! I kept myself on track by logging every bite in my Calorie Counter app (fatsecret.com) that I installed on my mobile phone. ETA: Our post-op diet is 2 weeks Clear liquids, 2 weeks full liquids/pureed foods then 2-4 months of soft foods. My doc has been encouraging me to try more solid foods as tolerated, and the only thing I had any issues with was the pieces of beef in some minestrone soup I tried. The meat seemed soft and I chewed well, but it still seemed to "stick" -
I too got sick of eggs so now I only have them once or twice a week. I also have protein bars, cottage cheese, Fat Free greek yogurt with sugar free jam in it, Tuna salad, Chicken Salad, I have even had lean cuisine meals for breakfast. Anything to break up the monotony.

I agree with ALL of the above, but... you may want to also check to see if you have a yeast type infection in the mouth, sorta like thrush that babies get. A couple years ago I kept having peeling lips, nothing would work, it was weird for me. I tried everything and it wasn't working. I finally went to the doc and she said try miconozale, the stuff they use for yeast infections, and.. it worked!! Theoretically you should be able to use a good yogurt too. Anyway... just a 2nd opinion and different view... and something to think about it it doesn't go away. Definitely keep drinking that Water though!!

To Puree Or Not To Puree?
highland replied to allik07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No blended foods for me either! My diet plan went from liquids to soft proteins. During this phase I ate canned tuna, canned chicken, eggs, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, and plenty of feesh white fish. -
Krisstep when you get past the horrible feeling from using milk in cream of wheat, you might try a little of the yogurt. I have become lactose intolerant since my surgery but it does not include yogurt, cheeses etc, only the milk stuff is a problem for me. If it is a problem I think there are things for lactose intolerant people to take before they have dairy and it works for them to solve the problem.

Hello from Italy waiting Banding
girlie2shooz replied to MeiQa's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
oh yah they are smokers that is for sure. Yes Italy has the food market cornered in my opinion. So Preop food plan was 3 weeks out 1 meal of replacement shake and 2 meals of meat and green vegetable. then on 2 weeks out it was 2 Meal Replacements and 1 meal of meat and green vegetables. 1 week out 3 Meal Replacement shakes a day. i am 5'6" and weighed 212, my surgeon wanted my weight down by 8 pounds and my liver healthy. that is his practice for everyone and i did lose the weight. he had no issues with my liver and was able to work around it very easy. my post op was similiar to yours, liquids 1 week, mushies 1 week, reasonable solids (ground beef, fish, etc) 3 weeks. mushies were hard for me because I like hot cereals and those pack the pounds on me, so i went for cottage cheese, thick veggie Soups, yogurts, ricotta cheese with some seasoned stewed tomatoes and garlic, you get the pic. if you look on the right side of this web page right below the search window, it says, "Members Area." click the "messages" link and it will take you to the PM and you just type in the users name and it will send your message to that user only. i am with you, i don't wrangle these websites too often but you will get the hang of it. I have learned that my doctor's words of advice have been right on the money everytime, i have followed his directions to a tee and i feel really good and have not had any "issues." if you would like to visit their website it is Western Bariatric Institute :: Home This website is a wealth of info but if you would like to see my surgeons info packet, I would be happy to mail it to you. just let me know. g2s -
start pre-opt diet tomorrow
Peggy Jean replied to Susan Sharp Campbell's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I use the Protein powder and turn it into slushies. I haven't tried any of the flavored syrups; just read about them yesterday. I combine the milk, orange juice ice and powder for my Breakfast shake and for dinner I use the powder, small amount of milk, ice, yogurt and a spoonful of cocoa ... yummy. I buy Centrum chewables as a Vitamin. I'm a bit ahead of you at 60 and this is exciting! Full steam ahead with no looking back!!! -
Clear foods and liquids for the first two weeks
Carrie1122 replied to Crafty Li'l Devil's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was only on clear for two days, then full liquids for 7 days. I had to freeze my Jello into pops and make my yogurts the same way and mix it with 1percent milk because it was way too thick. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
So, I use myfitnesspal.com and you can set that up pretty easily, but it does sometimes feel overwhelming because they have such a huge database so when you look up "boneless skinless chicken thigh" there might be 30 options. They're all about the same, just different brands, but if it's a single ingredient, the differences are so small it doesn't really matter. Just enter in the ingredient by weight in grams or ounces, or if it's like a banana or a cucumber, it might say "1 medium banana" or "1 8 inch cucumber". You can also enter that you eight 1/2 or .25 of the banana or cucumber. If you have a brand name ingredient, like you bought " Dannon light and fit greek yogurt" you can just type that in and up it comes! And it usually doesn't matter what flavor you chose, because almost always all the flavors have the same nutrition. However if you actually got Chobani greek yogurt, that might have twice as many calories/carbs because that's sweetened with sugar instead of artificial sugar. Hope that helps!
