Thanks everyone, I finally hit the 3 week stall and its pissing me off!!! I'm trying to avoid the scale for a week to see what happens Craig Martinez Austin, Texas -
Mastiff_Mama, I think you are my soul sista! I have two English Mastiffs, was also sleeved 2/18 and now have a BMI of 34!! I've lost just 1lb in the past week and am starting to freak out! Everyone on here says its just the inevitable 3 week stall but I'm worried that since we don't have as much to lose, I'm going to lose weight SLOW. But, slow is better than not losing!! I'm just trying to trust in the process. I, too, am happy that people say this is normal. I'm just ready for the weight to start coming off!

I weigh myself every day and the scale has not really moved in the last 4 days. So I might be in the dreaded 3 week stall. I think that you can gain weight even with the low calories but I don't think its fat, I think its water weight or constipation. Eventually your body will get the clue and let go and you will see the scale move. I would call your dietitians though and let them look over your food log and see if they have any suggestions. My dietitians said usually the stalls are caused by either not enough calories, low protein or not taking vitamins. But I would talk to your team and see what they think. It should at least help your anxiety and give you some input from the experts. Good luck! -

I have been good and trying not to weigh myself every day but today I got on the scale after 4 days of not looking and my weight did not go down, it actually went up .2. I just got done with a 3 week stall 2 weeks ago and mentally I am having a really hard time dealing with possibly being in another one. Its so hard to stay positive when you work hard to do everything as right as you can and then it feels like you are failing. I can't just stay off the scale because I need to know if I'm in a stall so I can at least try things to help but being in a stall is the worst thing ever. I have been hitting all of my goals, have increased my exercise a little bit, not drastically. As in I walk 30 min instead of 24 on the treadmill. I have been trying to do my strength exercises, but not with any actual weights, just my own arms. So its not likely to be an exercise and muscle gain equaling me out. I have been on the low end of my water and calories so I'll increase both but honestly if I was just on a regular diet right now, I would just give up. I'm glad I can't give up really, so I'm appreciative of the surgery but still sad. -
I had a 3 week stall at 3 weeks.lol. Hang in there and measure to see if inches are coming off then you're doing great. I feel better too but only walking 1 mile a day..being kind to my knee's. I have gone from 18w jeans to 16 and they are getting loose.YAY!! I'm still trying to work this tool but my loss is satisfactory to me:) and I'm 6 weeks out tommorrow. Does anyone know when we can start sit-ups and other exercises?Carla:confused1:

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
insta_adventurer replied to Ylime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to weigh in next Friday and am only down 30 in two months, because of a 3 week stall. I’m sure they’ll be a bit disappointed, but I’m okay with my progress. Sure, I wish I hadn’t stalled, but I know that it was out of my control... so it is what it is. I’m discovering that I more or less eat out of habit/boredom. As I’ve been breaking this cycle, I feel less concerned with eating. I know I need to get at least 60g of protein, take my vitamins, and drink my water. But other than meeting those goals, I feel like I’ve just lost interest in food. Not sure if anyone else is in the same boat? -

I am nearly 3 weeks and do believe I have hit the dreaded 3 week stall. I know this is normal- so I’m doing my best to not let it get to me. Challenges I’ve run into? Finding things to wear to work. Nearly every pair of pants is too big, so I’ve been wearing dresses and skirts. The dresses are a bit loose- but dresses can’t fall down so it doesn’t matter. I’m also in a constant battle against constipation and have to take colase and drink smooth move tea every night. It sucks, but I’m sure this will get better as my diet gets more varied. I am averaging between 400 and 500 calories a day. Still relying on Protein shakes to meet my protein goals. I am down 27lbs since surgery, 65lbs since starting the process in January, and 103lbs since my heaviest in October 2016. -

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
NewGirl2018 replied to Ylime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I had surgery July 2nd. Everything is trucking along but now, I get incredibly belchy while eat my liquid meals. And, I think I’ve fallen victim to the 3 week stall. In fact, my weight went up a half pound between today and yesterday and a half pound between Monday and Tuesday. Yeah, I don’t really have a question, just wallowing in my own self pity. -
I woke from surgery with a dry mouth (normal post op) and with moderate tenderness. By 10 that night I was done with any pain meds. Haven't had any issues since and been losing steadily since (until I hit the dreaded 3 week stall)

Hallelujah!!! The scale moved after a 3 week stall!!!! 229 this morning.

Hey lovely ladies! Ok so I'm so naughty I had a very little bit of skinny girl Cosmo mix tonight two sips and I was tipsy but omg I have been abused today! So I asked on two Facebook "support" groups how long people waited until they had a drink and hoe far out I was and that I was considering a drink not bottles just one teeny weeny drink and this one chick told me off!!! But before that I called the emergency line at lap surgery and then Mchenry called me back and he went off tap at me had me in tears! I get that it's for energencies and mine was a general question but they didn't tell me when I was discharged if I could or could not drink! So then hubby calls him back and let's him have it! Then hr apologised for bring such an ass. I said to him they never told me and that on discharge I was allowed to call and ask in fact they preferred if I called and asked instead of doing things that might damage me so aren't I better off calling before I make a mistake instead of u telling me to figure it out on Monday! Like wtf!!!!! Nasty!!!! I get it's for life threatening things but seriously to be yelled at I kid u not he yelled at me my jaw dropped!!!! Seriously I'm so dissppointed i know maybe it was trivial but I found out through MY OWN RESEARCH later of course that it can give u an ulcer and some people say wait 6 weeks some say 6 months some say 1 year like how am I supposed to know! Anyway he said that a few sips is ok after we had a 15 minute arguement he could have savec himself and me a lot of heartache if he just answered the question. I now feel like absolute crap that he spoke to me like that and then I got attacked on FB too seriously! Btw the drink I had was amazing u drank about 100ml over like 3 hours or something so it's ok I think! But I don't know.... I'm so glad I have u guys I can vent to I'm sorry for going on do much but thank u for listening!!!! So today I hit 119.6 kg on my scale when I'm naked so happy days!!! I'm coming up to this 3 week stall so I think it's time to work out on the cross trainer oh and I haven't walked in 2 days I went back to work today but I'm at a desk job and sitting for a long time made me sore so might have to take some painkillers to work on Monday!!!! On the number 2 I think I should be more diligent with my fibre right now I feel a bit lost... Chez have u started pre opp? How are u feeling? -
Weight loss stall
Sleeve_Me_Alone replied to fourmonthspreop's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yes, stalls are completely normal, even this early. As @summerseeker said above, the "3 week stall" is notorious. It often happens between week 3-6 post-op and can last 3-6 weeks. The reality is, you just had MAJOR surgery. Your body is healing and trying to sort itself out, in addition to massive dietary changes. You need to give yourself lots of grace and just be patient - trust the process. Hit your protein & fluids, eat according to your plan, move your body in ways that feel good and don't cause pain or exhaustion. The scale will move again but it can't be your sole, or even primary, focus. If you have any major concerns, definitely reach out to your surgery team, but for now, your job is to heal and follow your plan! -
IV fluid weight gain and 3 week stall
Tara1992 replied to Kindle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just got my surgery date, and the simple answer is NO. My surgeon didn't tell me about iv fluids, just learned this a few minutes ago on a different thread. Good thing because if I left the hospital and weighed more without knowing, I probably would have cried. I've read about the 3 week stall on here as well, had no idea about that. I did although know about the carbs, my nutritionist was very thorough! I actually lost 11lbs and haven't even done my 2 week pre op diet yet. My NUT is also the one who told me to come on this site. I think my surgeon is very busy (no, that's not an excuse) but he might not remember who he tells what to. I have no doubt in my drs ability, he's been mazing from day 1 and very supportive and understanding. I see how vets on this site can be very frustrated tho. I've been on here a few weeks and see some posts and think to myself (really.....??). The first few days were hard to navigate and I'm still lost if I use the website instead of my ap, but I try to chime in where I can and read more. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App -
Wow so that leaves a whole lotta nothing to eat! I suspect my reply may be a bit controversial, but for one thing I avoid anything that says fat free or low fat, unless that is naturally the case. Otherwise it usually means added carbs and fillers. I have adjusted my own diet to what has worked best for me in the past and that is.. a low carb, HIGH FAT diet. Yes really, high fat. I eat real butter, real mayo, bacon, sausage, whole milk yogurt, and the like. I know this is going to freak some people out (OMG THE RULES!) but know what happened when I got off the low fat bandwagon? I broke my 3 week stall immediately and dropped about 7 pounds in one week. I also experienced a great reduction in hunger! I did this at about the 2 month mark. Today is my 3 month surgiversary. So anyway I confessed my rebellious diet switcharoo to my nutritionist yesterday and she didn't have much to say about it other than maybe by eating more fat I was bumping myself out of starvation mode and needed the extra calories to break my stall. She may be partly right but I can't agree entirely because I am, as I keep saying, A Professional Dieter. I know my body better than anyone and how it reacts to various percentages of macronutrients. Doing Low Carb/High Fat in the past was by far the most successful plan for me. I was able to drop 50 pounds in 5 months, without surgery and reached my ideal weight in maybe 7 or 8 months. (How did I gain it back? I ate carbs again.) I guess my point is, in the end we should all do whatever works best for us. I learned pretty early that I was in no danger of dumping, I also learned pretty early, that carbs such as crackers, fruit, and even vegetables were causing me to stall, but that didn't surprise me because it's not the first time. Early on you should just do whatever your team tells you to do (there's not much chance of sticking to low fat, low sugar, and low salt tho - good luck with that) Once you are more "on your own", you can choose to continue following their rules if they are working for you, or make your own if that works better. I make sure my team knows what I'm doing, and as long as I'm getting such great results, I will continue doing what works. Ok go easy on me.

Im 4 months out of vsg. Here came the 3 week stall. And still stalling. Back to protein shakes, to get my protein in. This is the only thing I can think to do to break this stall. I do know that my clothes are fitting diffrently, just wish the number on the scale would move.

Any March Sleevers?
PeacockMama replied to futuresleever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Only lost 2 pounds this past week its that's "3 week stall" everyone talks about. 18 lbs total. That doesn't sound like a lot to me for what I've been through and for how little im eating. I know it will keep coming off and 18 pounds is actually good for 3 weeks. Its my rational vs my emotional. The GREAT thing, however, is that I can't just say "screw it" and eat myself into oblivion like I could pre op. And I know that it'll come off. One way or another, fast or slow...it WILL come off. I just need to be patient, get the protein and water in, and start exercising more!! -

One thing that's true for me is the 2-3 week stall. I'm not going to get my nerves in a bundle, 15 days out and I'm 12 pounds down, I'll take it. I have my ideas for this wls journey, I'm going to release control and go with the flow. -

Froufrou I would agree that the blood is from your esophagus, but I hope he can explain the issue to you. I’m apparently in a stall. I had my 3 week stall early, so I guess I’m having the 3 month stall a bit early as well. I’m sure hoping it’s a stall anyway. Of course the fear is that I’m done losing and will be stuck at 193lbs -
Out With the Old--In With the New!

Day 13 Post Surgery - 215.6lbs (-6.8lbs) Holy cow!!! I slept great AGAIN!!! And woke up full of energy and joyful intentions toward the morning!! I can NOT explain the boost and motivation that it gives a person to see quick weight loss success on the scale! LOL. And I know I will ride that muthah truckin' wave til it ends! And there will be an end cuz all magic has a price. Doesn't it, deary? Hehe. I know sometime between now and the next couple of weeks the awful, terrible, very bad, 3 week stall shall descend upon me and my house. And there will be a pox and a scar upon the land complete with wailing, pissing and moaning, and gnashing of teeth! Ha! I will step on a non-responsive scale multiple times during the day just to confirm it's bitchi-ness. I was so ready for the scale to start moving, though. I KNOW my body. And my body HATES whey protein isolate in large amounts. It can take having 1 protein drink a day, or some supplementation with it, but not for all meals every meal! It's too insulinogenic for me. But give me low fat protein and low fat veggies? And BAM baby. Just like that, my body will start to tap into its fat stores!!! And that is exactly what's happening. Oh, and it doesn't hurt that I'm only taking an occasional 20ml of liquid sf tylenol for transient pain rather than taking gabapentin, tramadol, or worse, narcotics and muscle relaxants! I'm walking as much as I can. Yesterday I hit 40 minutes for the day--almost back to pre-op. I am so limited by the hip bursitis. My hips are back to hurting like a little b***h. But I'm still walking on them at 10 and 20 minute intervals. I think this is really important! Two things concern me right now. I am not getting a sense of fullness. I can easily eat 1/4c of food and could probably eat more than that, but I'm trying to be very conscientious about following my doc's orders. Until last night. One of my diet forms says at Phase 3 soft foods I can have 1-2oz dense protein + 1/4c soft veggies. So I am taking them at their word. Last night I had 1.75oz of grilled tilapia + 1tsp low fat nut-less pesto, 1oz frozen broccoli, 1/2oz avocado, 1/2oz heirloom tomato (skinless/seedless). I wasn't full, but my spidey senses were on alert to tell me I should not eat any more. But and it's a big butt...I did NOT feel full. And I WANTED more food! LOL. That was me all day yesterday! But I still ate my 1/4c of egg scramble, my 3tbsp egg salad + 1/2slice of low carb CheezeItz crackers, 1/2c of yogurt/cottage cheese+apple sauce and cinnamon, plus my 9oz Premier Protein in decaf coffee for a grand total of: 512cals; 61g protein; 18g fat; 15g carbs; 1g fiber; 14g net carbs; 7g sugar naturally occurring. I hope the lack of satiety is because I have little inflammation and because my nerves are not yet firing on all cylinders? OK, more later. Will come back to share my Guiltless Nut-Free Pesto later. -

I weighed like you did...and was just as freaked out, but I went back and read in other forums that folks who have lost a good amount of weight prior to surgery often do not lose in the beginning.... like an early 3 week stall? I don't know but I'm holding onto that theory for dear life! and told my husband to hide the scale from me! You are doing great! You've got this!
