It's happened. Totally expected it. The question is, is it a 3 week stall or a 2 week stall. Surgery last Tuesday, 9/29. But does the 1 week liquid pre-op count as week 1 making this week 3 or does the count actually begin after surgery. The stall corresponded with the move from Clear liquids to full liquids. Still doing great though. Yesterday was 650 calories, 60 grams of Protein and 80 oz Water. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

From manhattan(UES) and just had surgery 9/14. Started my journey at 310 (first appointment) and was 286 when I started my pre op diet. I went into surgery at 273 and today being a little over 3 weeks I am at 256 and never felt better. I have a feeling I am at the 3 week stall because I haven't lost anything this week unfortunately.

The dreaded 3 week stall...it's a common curse....keep on track, it will break.

I had the sleeve on 8-19-15. I have over 200# to lose!!!! I lost 25# on my pre op liquid diet but have lost 28 in the 7 weeks since surgery. I'm not always perfect but I wonder if I'm getting enough in or is it too much? I typically eat all Protein 3x/day & don't eat between, per my NUT (Tuna, chicken, salmon & sometimes a 1/2 premiere protein shake). I eat about 2oz/meal. I experienced that dreaded 3 week stall it seems, lost 5 pounds after & "gained" 2 back. I have not lost constantly since week 2. I try to get Water in although it makes me feel nauseated. I do well if I get 32oz in. Am I impatient? Not eating enough? Expecting miracles? Doomed? Any advice is appreciated.

When the Honeymoon is Over
AnA92212 replied to Amanda Dutton LPC's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
My honeymoon period was extremely short. Yep, I gained 5 pounds the first week after surgery. For the first 3 weeks the weight came off relatively easily and with no effort...of course, I was on a liquid diet...lol! Then, I started working out 6 days a week and I hit a 3 week stall. I saw my nutritionist because I was starting to become depressed. She assured me I was doing everything right. Sure enough the next week I lost 9 pounds. Since 2 weeks after surgery I have worked out at least 5 days a week, taken my supplements, and even made sure I was eating right. It's been a struggle. People will comment that my weight is melting off. I tell them that's because I am in the gym 5 to 6 days a week! I will lose a couple pounds then stall for 3 weeks. During that 3 weeks I typically lose 3 to 5 inches though. I am on the last month of my "honeymoon" phase and since this has been my reality from the beginning I am in a good place. I don't expect too much. -

3 week stall -
Guess I've hit the 3 week stall too. I just wish I could get my blood pressure down and keep it there. Yesterday I didn't feel good so I checked it. 176/98. Too high!

Finally got a referral to a cardiologist. Now the wait begins for the paper work game. My primary did increase the new med I started last week. I walked 2 miles yesterday and today. I figure that won't hurt. The weather here has been beautiful. The rest of the week will be in the mid 80's but the evenings are very cool. I have on sweats now from walking but I think I could just do a t-shirt tomorrow. Hope you have a great day....I'm in OK, where are you?

13 days in and not loosing
australian marie replied to australian marie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks so much for your advise. I hear you but unfortunately I'm only up to day 13 and haven't lost for a week - which is still a way from the dreaded 3 week stall. Anyway- I'll keep on keeping on. ???????? -
13 days in and not loosing
jane13 replied to australian marie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@australian marie - NO. It is probably a combination of a couple of things - fluids your body is still holding onto post- surgery and your body adjusting to its new "normal". Stay the course and OFF the scale. You are probably also headed towards the dreaded 3 week stall (they happen), so again...stay the course and OFF the scale -
My weight has not moved in 3 days despite the fact that I'm walking/running every night....now granted, I've lost 29 pounds in 2 weeks which is amazing, but everyone talks about a 3 week stall, not a 2 weeks stall. I"m sure it's my body recalibrating and I may be losing inches, but it just messes with your mind, you know?

Sleeved on 7/29, close to your date. Lost 25 since surgery. Watch carbs, protein, cals, and fluid, it is just the rate my body has decided to lose. Had the 3 week stall, now losing 2-3 lbs a weeks.

Wow yall this 3 week stall thing is crazy and real. I have been 195 for 2 weeks now. Trying not to be discouraged

Aussie girl sleeve Fri 28 August!
smileygal replied to smileygal's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi all. Sorry it's been a while. Life got crazy for a bit. I'm nearly 4 weeks post op and had the 3 week stall!!! So frustrating - same weight all week. I guess I had already lost 11kgs so can't really complain and I don't want to lose too fast as many ppl don't know I've had the surgery. I have more energy, finding stairs easier already, doing more walking. Yesterday we had a big family lunch and I was able to eat enough over 2 hours that no one seemed suspicious. Fish is by far the easiest thing but I also had a spoonful of curry with rice. Cheesecake for dessert was just too easy to eat but I only had a sliver. At work I'm mainly having a yogurt for morning & afternoon tea - same one half/half and a shake for lunch. What other things work well on soft diet? Mushrooms going down well for breakfast! Did anyone else get the 3 week stall?? -
6 weeks out and still in so much pain?
butterfly23 replied to undeserving777's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@undeserving777 - that is horrible about the pain! It sounds like something did happen, glad you are seeing the surgeon to get to the bottom of it and hope you have some pain relief soon. I had pain until about a month out myself. Re: your weight loss, it sounds like you hit the stall that most of us get so remember it is normal to stall (on this site they call it the readed 3 week stall), it is your body's time to reorganize and let go. I was really worried too, now I am 5 months out and I find the stalls much more mangeable, and always I drop a lot quickly after they are over (although I realize that is easy for me to say now, but really, it gets easier). I just focus on high Protein (at least 80g for me), lots of Water and low carb and move my body and trust the process. There are lots of threads on here about stalls, slow losing etc if you want more info. Here is one I wrote to help me during the times my loss was slow or non-existent. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/345678-benefits-of-losing-weight-slower-than-expected/ Maybe something will resonate with you. Best of luck to you! -
Where are all the august people
jorgo18 replied to bekah81015's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi all! I am new to the group and excited to go through this journey. I had my surgery on Aug 27 and go for my 4-week follow up in two days. My Pre-op I was at 268, day of surgery I was 262 and today I am 239.8. Last week was a struggle as I had severe nausea and couldn't get a whole lot in, including protein. This past weekend I became more tolerable of things and this week is starting off great! Last week, I stalled, probably the notorious 3-week stall and the lack of calories. However, things seem to be moving right along now. -
I just came out of a 3 week stall. it started week 5. I was having about 800 calorie per day and exercising. A few people from this community suggested upping my calories. It was scary but, as soon as i increased calories, the stall ended. Coincidence?? Are you consuming enough?

Diet & Exercise Regimen
OutsideMatchInside replied to DrewzWife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is your 3rd week. You are in the 3 week stall. Just wait. -
1.Step away from the scale. If looking at those numbers makes you crazy, put it away. Personally I only weigh once a month or when I go to the doctor's whichever comes first. However if you must weight more frequently than that, I recommend no more than once a week. 2. It isn't "only" 13 lbs. It's 13lbs of fat gone forever. CONGRATULATIONS!!! 3. Do not compare yourself to others, some are fast losers, some are slow losers. People who start at a higher weight will have a faster weight loss than those who start in the 200's. Men lose faster than women. There are just too many variables; co-morbs, age, hormones, etc... all play a part in how you lose. 4. There is such a thing called the 3 week stall. It just happens. Keep in mind no matter how short or long a stall is, if you are following your program, it will eventually break. You body is adjusting to all the changes happening at once. Once it gets the message you are not dying, the weight loss will resume. 5. Make sure your are hitting at least the minimum Protein and Fluid goals. Personally speaking I think exercise does help. In short, you are fine and as long as you are not gaining, you're doing well. Hang in there, stay positive and keep going! A better way to measure you progress is to take your measurements. I measure neck, boobs, waist and hips. even when the scale isn't moving, your measurements will show how your body is changing.

Slow Weight Loss 3 weeks after Surgery
Babbs replied to Minxie89's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You want a conversation? Okay, here it is. What you are going through is completely normal. 99% of us went through it. It's called the "Dreaded 3 Week Stall". No, you're not failing. No, you're not doomed. No, you're not doing anything wrong. It's physiological. In laymen's terms, your body just takes a break after the rapid weight loss to adjust. Expect to completely stop losing here soon. It may last a week, or it may last several. Hard to say. Not much you can do about this particular stall except ride it out. Once it's over, expect to start losing at a more "normal" pace of 2-4 pounds a week. And yes, you will probably stall again. And again. And go up a pound or even 2. Then lose it again. Then go back up 1. Then lose 3. It's all just part of the normal fluctuations our bodies do. You'll get used to it over time. Now, here comes the science: A "stall" a few weeks after surgery is not uncommon, and here's why. Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs. of Water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when a patient is not getting in enough food, the body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. Then when 2 lbs. of glycogen is used a patient will also lose 8 lbs. of water that was used to store it -- voila -- the "easy" 10 lbs. that most people lose in the first week of a diet. However, when the body stays in a caloric deficit state the body starts to realize that this is not a short-term problem. Then the body starts mobilizing fat from adipose tissue and burning fat for energy. But the body also realizes that fat can't be used for short bursts of energy. So, it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, and rebuilding the glycogen stores. As it puts back the 2 lbs. of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs. of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though the patient might still be losing energy content to their body, the weight will not go down or it might even gain for a while as the retention of water dissolves the glycogen that is being reformed and stored. -
Too many stalls, sigh!
Mountaingal replied to leag78's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Just ended a 3 week stall here. You are right Inner Surfer Girl about the complexities of the human body. So we all hang in there, eat right, drink enough Fluid and exercise and have faith one day that scale will move down again. While we wait we look for NSV's. Not making any weight loss related goals here just trying to believe if I work the program it will happen..in it's own time. -
Tell me about weight stall at 3weeks post op
lmag replied to mimorison's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm freaking out about this also, except mine is the 1 week stall. I lost 15 pounds the first week after surgery, haven't lost a pound since day 7 post op. I am getting my protein and water. I am trying to walk more hoping that will help, but it is scaring me. This is normal? I had heard of the 3 week stall, but not one week. Should it really be called the 15 pound stall?
