The scale that counts is the one at the surgery office. If stuffing down yogurt and whipped cream are typical of your solutions to frustrations and disappointments, what do you expect? There are other, more productive ways to deal with those things. -

Hi @@KristenLe, I'm managing to swallow things but feel full within a few mouthfuls. I had about 2 dessert spoons of angel delight, around 250mls of milk, approx 4 dessert spoons of soup, 300mls of Ribeana, 150mls protein shake and I'm going to try some yogurt now. I spoke to my nurse yesterday and she said its all normal. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Just under 3 weeks out and busy!
Shrinkinqtpi replied to Shrinkinqtpi's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yesterday went better than I'd expected. Well over my 64oz expected Fluid intake Had yogurt for Breakfast and shake for lunch. I missed having a shake during busy Houston traffic around 3:00 but felt cared for enough to actively participate in class. Everyone in the class was tired by the end around 8:30. When I got home I had some purées Beans and sour cream with cheese. Tomorrow marks the day I leave purées and officially start fork soft foods. Thank you for your support. Is Eating Fruit Like Eating Candy?
Candygyrl replied to Elizabeth Anderson RD's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Thank you so much for this article. I needed to read this. I have been enjoying my WLS portions of watermelon, strawberries, grapes, blueberries and kiwi. I've been making smoothies paired with greek yogurt, Kale or Baby spinach and although I've not had any stalls in my weight loss yet, I often wonder would I do better without it? Listening to so many others in the community with their take on what we should and should not eat I have to cipher through the nonsense and do what makes sense. I will continue to enjoy my faithful 3-4 servings of fruit daily. Thank you again!!! -
I went back to work after three weeks to work a conference and was on my feet for for 10 to 12 hours a day. It was manageable and I was not excessivly tired. I did get a room with a kitchen and took some food and Protein drinks but tended to eat scramed eggs, yogurt, or cottage cheese most of the time. I also ran week long conferene between weeks 5 and 6. Did exceptionally well energy wise. Did not have a kitchen at hotel but managed well with a less restrictive diet. Also carried a bottle of Water at all time. When Was Everyone Cleared for "Real" Food
ShelterDog64 replied to ChunkyMonkeyGoneSlim's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@ChunkyMonkeyGoneSlim I have the same green book with the same contradiction...and I live in WA. We might have had our surgeries at the same facility I'm with @@Dub on this one...I skipped the noodles entirely, and went as low-carb as possible right from the start of soft foods. I do think noodles are listed in the soft phase because they're easy and come in the can of chicken noodle Soup that some people may just mush up and eat. I've been avoiding using anything in a can, as I'm also watching my sodium intake pretty carefully. I trust the surgeon who did my sleeve, and so I trust in his post-op instructions, too. The green book is a great general resource, but at my post-op appointments, my doc definitely talked with me and helped me tailor my eating a bit. I'm over 2 months out now and I eat most everything. My quantities are still very small and I'm avoiding simple carbs as much as possible. I've had some quinoa and a very small amount of brown rice, both sat very well with my new stomach but I've not had any more rice because it's not where I want to be nutritionally. A typical day for me would be coffee with Protein powder and some plain greek yogurt in the morning, lean protein and cheese for lunch, whatever protein and veg I make for my family for dinner. I usually eat a few almonds mid-afternoon, and a sugar-free popsicle after dinner. I keep a Protein Bar and a little ziplock with some almonds and Jerky in my bag in case I get hungry and I'm not at home. I still eat very small bites, chew everything very well and take a long time for my meal. On a great day, I get 64 oz of Water in...on a normal day, I get more like 48 oz. I'm working on it Message me if you want, and good luck to you! I'm down 44 lbs and I feel great...I'm so glad I made the decision to have this surgery! -
Solid foods 1 month out
Clarevoyant replied to hillij25's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm five weeks out and everyday gets a little better. I can definitely eat larger quantities of soft foods like yogurt than chicken. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Dinks97420, would you mind telling me exactly what you ate and when? How many Protein Shakes, when did you eat the refried beans and how much? This sounds doable to me. I would really appreciate it if you could show me a typical day on this diet I think this is answer I was looking for Sent from my SM-J700T using the BariatricPal App I made sure that I had three premier shakes a day normally half a shake every hour or so. I had a jello cup with my shake for lunch. I work 8-5 so by the time I got done at work I had all three down. For dinner I would measure out half cup of refried beans with taco sauce and a little melted cheese or I had half cup cottage cheese with lots of seasoning mixed in. My favorite are the Mrs. Dash ones. I also had lots of sugar free Popsicles on hand and would normally munch on a couple in the evening. I was really worried about restricting myself like that because in the past I would get migraines if I didn't eat enough. No problems at all. Worked great. Once I made weight I added back in one meal a day keeping it mostly meat and veggies with no carbs. Tomorrow I start my countdown to surgery diet which will be back to 100% liquid other than Greek yogurt, jello and sf Popsicles. Surgery is 8/30!! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Hi Yaya! Congrats on your surgery date! I managed the diet very well, actually. I only had to do it for one week, but it was still pretty easy. Make sure you drink about 3 protein shakes a day with no more than 15g of carbs and no more than 5g of fat, unless your doctor says otherwise. You can also have yogurt and soups. I recommend tomato soup and broth. Also, strained and watered down cream of chicken soup (make sure to not swallow any chicken bits). Are they requiring you to do clear liquids at any time?

I don't like yogurt. I don't eat it. Just because people are eating yogurt doesn't mean you have to. Like you I went through a lot of yogurt options and came to the conclusion I don't just dislike yogurt, I HATE it. There are lots of other options for Protein. And I find the macros on yogurt, even the "good" yogurt to suck. Find something you like that fits your plan, it doesn't have to be yogurt.

I've had the Chobani Flips for treats, but I prefer yogurt that is higher in Protein and lower in carbs for meals. I believe the Flips have around 26 carbs for 12 grams of protein (though my memory is a bit hazy on this), whereas some other yogurts have a reverse carb to protein ratio. My current favorite is the Trader Joe's brand of plain Greek yogurt that has around 22 grams of protein and 7 grams of carbs. I also like Fage, which is far more readily available. I primarily buy plain Greek or Bulgarian yogurt and then jazz them up by using them as the base of smoothies. I blend a cup of yogurt, some frozen kale (I've found that the consistency is better when it's frozen), and enough lower carb frozen fruit to mask the taste of the kale to make my breakfast most mornings. There are a few brands that make plain yogurt with protein in the 20s and carbs that are 10 grams or under. Siggi's is another favorite because they are one of the few brands that have flavored yogurt that is still reasonably low in carbs. I like having them around for a grab-and-go snack or breakfast, or just when I'm wanting something sweeter. I love their kefir as well, and will sometimes use it as a smoothie base rather than yogurt.

Stalled, Then loosing, Then Gaining?

KristenLe 100% Full Disclosure I'm just winging it I don't know what the hell I'm doing or how to measure all this out so I just try to eat less to be safer than sorry. I'll have: 1 yogurt for Breakfast @ 7am 1 piece of meat half the size of the palm of my hand and eat less than half and maybe some sauteed tomatoes and onions @ 4112am 1 bottle of Dasani Water dinner I'll have ground turkey over rice like a Table Spoon each 1 Dasani water 16.9oz And I'll smack on laughing cow Swiss cheese triangles like 3 a day and that's all I eat Sent from my LG-H950 using the BariatricPal App That should say 11am Sent from my LG-H950 using the BariatricPal App This is typical daily for me Sent from my LG-H950 using the BariatricPal App -
I just looked up the nutrition stats on a couple of the flip flavors and in my opinion, the carb count is too high. My preference for yogurt are the dannon light and fit greek yogurt followed by the oikos triple zero. Other breakfast options I use are low fat cottage cheese or a scrambled/hard boiled egg.

September Surgery...Lets do this
CrystalS86 replied to etorres's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yeah, mine was required for 2-3 weeks but I decided to do it earlier because he wanted me to lose a little more weight before surgery as well. its easy to lose 10 lbs a week doing it, its just hard to stick to. For me, i am allowed 1 serving of dairy and a small salad with sugar free dressing. So in the morning I will have a Protein shake (I really like the premier ones), and a yogurt. For lunch I will do Jello, chicken broth, and a Protein shake. Then for dinner I will have a small salad and a protein shake. And for dessert either sugar free jello or sugar free popsicles. Now, there are some days where i know myself and my habits to know well enough that I am gonna binge if i dont eat something. So i will do a lean protein (4 oz, usually fish or chicken) and some veggies. I stay in ketosis the entire time which is good because you lose weight the quickest once in ketosis. -
Almost 1 week post op!
cindyw41 replied to lala1234's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Walking only for 6 weeks or until your dr allows you(My wait was 8 weeks). Walk a little longer/further each day. Then it was a gradual increase of running and weight lifting. If you have a Planet Fitness near you, you can get a membership for $10 a month and they have free personal trainers. Are you eating yogurt, s/f Jello, s/f pudding, s/f Popsicles? They all count toward your Fluid intake and was allowed on my 2 week liquid post op diet Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
How Do You Stay Cool Without Ice Cream?
AZCristi replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Food and Nutrition
I'm 12 years post-op... I can no longer eat dairy - I've become lactose intolerant... the only dairy I can eat is yogurt. There are several frozen yogurt bars, frozen fruit, my favorite is the sugar free TROPICAL Popsicles - I buy them by the case. We're addicted to them in my household. I should also mention, I live in Phoenix, so summers are brutal here. -
Unfortunately without the nutrition information it's hard to say. A good source of Protein will not have more than 10x the Calories than it does protein. For example if the yogurt has 12 grams of protein it shouldn't be more than 120 calories. When I eat yogurt it's Oikos Triple zero. 15 grams protein in 120 calories. Hi yall, I have a question. I see on here a lot that everyone eats yogurt I've gone through 10 different kind and finall found Chobani Flip I really like these what do you all think is this a good one for One of my sources of Protein? What's everybody else eating for yogurt and Breakfast WITH success Sent from my LG-H950 using the BariatricPal App

Be careful of hidden carbs too. Certain cheese can have more carbs than others, some veggies are higher carb too. And most yogurt is pretty high carb too. Carbs can sneak up on you and sabotage your efforts. Low carb works great for me but only if I keep my carbs really low. I have to stay under 30 net carbs a day (preferably under 20) or the weight doesn't budge for me.

Just under 3 weeks out and busy!

Baby food is not the best choices for food of any kind. Can you make your own purees? Or leverage Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, refried Beans with cheese, ricotta cheese, unsweetened applesauce as long as you eat some Protein with it, Cream soups, Of course I would also leverage my favorite protein shakes which are ready made and easy to pack in your lunch. They are Premier Protein ready made shakes. They have 30 grams of protein, 1 gram of sugar and 160 calories. Once you can mash things with a fork, leverage fish......very high in protein, low in calories and absolutely works well following WLS. -

Hand on your heart - how bad were the first few days after getting sleeved?
beautiful_alarms replied to skinnyjeansatlast's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my VSG on Friday, I stayed in the hospital until yesterday. The first day and a half were a bit harsh with pain and nausea, but it was controlled with medication. I threw up twice, but I believe that was due to the radiopaque stuff that I had to drink for flouroscopy to show that I had no leaks. By Saturday night, I was feeling way better. Fatigue like whoa, though! I've been sleeping on and off with walking around the house and sipping liquids and eating yogurt and strained cream of chicken Soup. I've had nothing at all for pain since Saturday night, not even Tylenol. I have some aches, but nothing worth taking medicine for. I've had to take anti-nausea medicine a couple of times since being home, but that seems to be easing off, too. The worst part is the lack of energy, but even that is slowwwwwly getting better. -

Pre op was hard. 2 weeks of following the plan to the T. Lost 16 pounds pre op. I walk alot. I started working out today as a matter of fact. Elliptical and free weights. I'm using a gym in my building. It's free for employees. So I don't have a trainer but they do have posters all around of different exercises. I eat alot of yogurt, Turkey burgers, and Protein bars. I can pretty much eat anything but those are my favorite. Once I have my 6 month follow up I will definitely try other foods. Oh and I like eating Cereal with no milk. Make sure you stick with your plan that your doctor give you. Good luck Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App -
In terms of eating, some things I do that I think are helpful are: I try to minimize carbs that don't have good Fiber - stick mainly with whole grain breads and cereals, fruits, and legumes in the carb category - sugars and simple starches can make you hungrier, in addition to being less healthy I do try to eat with good variety, not just chicken breast and broccoli 24x7, I mix it up, try new things, like making my own smoothies, or trying the par-boiled farro and bulgur grains that Trader Joe's sells, a recipe for seared lemon-pepper fish filet... I do allow myself some fun foods, but they are rarely "the full monty", for example I might have a frozen yogurt bar, some whole grain crackers with guacamole, a small veggie pizza with whole grain crust Mentally speaking, if I find myself thinking of a big slab of blueberry pie with vanilla ice cream, or a large pizza with pepperoni and sausage and extra cheese... I "change the channel" mentally, quick!
