Activities 6-8 weeks post VSG
kthorn1 replied to kthorn1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's a great point! Thank God, even though my starting weight was 436, I've always been able to do the things I'm hoping to do the weekend in question (I'm fully mobile, can fly, walk around an airport, attend a game, etc.). BUT there was pain involved. My back would hurt or I'd have to stop and catch my breath if walking up multiple bleachers. Definitely looking forward to NOT slowing down my friends in the future. I'd been thinking about surgery for over a year, but one of my major turning points was a few months ago while I was on a vacation to the DR. I went on a snuba trip, and the boat didn't have a full ladder to climb back up, like I'm used to. It had a single step. I couldn't pull all of my body weight back up, so I had to have someone help pull me back on the boat. Talk about embarrassing......but it led me to making positive changes. -

I agree with this, and possibly even more because you are losing weight and may be seeing some increased mobility and your BP and Pulse may be improving at this point. -
I think I was at 1000-1200 calories at 3 months out and that was encouraged by my practice. My point is to say, if you are losing weight, it's not necessarily bad to be taking in 1200 calories. If you aren't losing weight, it could just be a stall - even at 1200 calories, you are probably in a calorie deficit unless you are really close to your goal weight, which is unlikely given you are only 3 months from surgery.

Any Tips to speed up fat loss?
Tony B - NJ replied to BeachBeauty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think at this point I started exercising more and it did the trick. When I go into a stall or slowdown I notice I still lost inches due to the exercise then I see step changes in weight loss. -
I do not agree with this at all. Exercise to me is critical to getting the weight loss to continue. If I take a few days off I notice it slows down and I get into a stall. Not to mention, you have to exercise for health as well. Finally, by exercising, you are also trimming your body down and losing inches in the right places. I think you Doctor would agree with exercise and no Doctor would say not to exercise...atleast walking.
-
Just because you CAN eat up to 1200 calories does not mean you SHOULD. If you are hungry after having your protein, you should eat a lot of low calorie, low fat vegetables. Make sure you are drinking a LOT of water and make sure you are exercising more. As you lose weight, it is going to take more exercise to get the same benefit. If you are not exercising, start now. You cannot keep your weight loss going if you are not walking a lot. I walk a total of an hour and 20 minutes minimum every day, in 20 minute spurts to fit into my schedule.
-
Exercise has very little to do with how much weight you lose, or how quickly. The only exercise I did for nearly a year was walking and my weight loss was very successful. Stalls at about the 12-week mark are very common, as you will see when you read the posts here. It's nothing to worry about. As long as you are sticking with the program recommended by your doctor and nutritionist, the weight loss will come. Just be patient. (Easier said than done, I know.)

No restriction , always hungry and haven’t lost any weight for 2 weeks. 13 weeks post op and I’m so fed up. I can eat upto 1200 calories in a day aswell at just over 3 months post op. what is going on? im not eating anything I shouldn’t always have protein first etc any advice ? I’m more depressed now than I was before surgery. My mum eats less than me and she’s not even had surgery

So i thought about this and i think for about a year and a bit after weight loss phase, i would feel “fat” every single time i ate something….because you could see the food in my stomach cuz it literally pops out from the food. You could feel it too…my tum is hard/firm when there was food in it. My fam jokes that they can tell when last i ate by looking at my stomach. It aways went away after i digested. Now that i think about it, this may be a contributing reason why i ate very little back then? I dunno, just thinking. Anyway, im 3.5 yrs out now and it doesn’t bother me anymore, its been long enough now that I trust that bit of bloating eventually goes away.

you will be fine as I have said in replies to your posts before and privately ( I have sent you another message a little while back that you may no have seen yet). It gets better it really does. You need to stop regretting and stop the what if's. It's done you cant change it. IT GETS BETTER, I felt exactly like you I started to feel better around the 5 to 6 month mark and now at the 9 month mark I mostly don't have any regrets. Get some counselling to help you through the grieving process remind yourself why you did this and I know you don't care about the weight loss right now I was the same but you will when you start feeling better. I am even at the point of oh no I have stopped losing. you also need to accept that you are not the only one who feels has felt like this, accept what we are telling you. YOU WILL FEEL BETTER. you will feel like yourself again only better. you will be able to eat all the foods you love only in smaller amounts. I can eat way more than I ever thought I would these days so much so I wish my restriction was better. Do you work? have you got friends you can talk to about this? what hobbies do you have? try to do things that you enjoy and take your mind off it. Have a good cry about it, I cried multiple times a day I couldn't even utter the word surgery without crying I wanted it outlawed. now I would happily recommend it to people but I would also tell them the first 6 months are rough. Ask yourself and tell us what exactly is it that makes you think you will never be yourself again what are your fears what is causing the regret ? once you have the answers to those questions you can and we can help you move forward.

Any Tips to speed up fat loss?
Arabesque replied to BeachBeauty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You can depend upon your rate of weight loss slowing as you get further out & closer to goal. Those heady days of huge losses don’t last. I was one single kilogram (2.2lbs) from my goal at month 5 & it took me an entire month to reach it. It was like a stall. So close so far. You are eating more, closer to what your body needs to maintain your weight so you are not eating in deficit which forces your body to burn fat for energy. If you decrease your caloric intake, you may lose more but at 6 months out focusing on a healthy diet & getting closer to your required nutrients & intake is more important. The other truth is not everyone reaches their goal which is just a number. And those who do, don’t do so to an arbitrary timeline. Many factors totally out of your control affect your rate of loss & the weight you end up at like age, gender, weight loss & gain history & the biggest one: genetics. Can’t change those. Losing 1-2lbs a week is a healthy rate of loss. Celebrate every pound you lose. -
Gastric Bypass in Tijuana?
Ninabnina77 replied to Ninabnina77's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Thanks, for all the info. After talking to you today, I did tons of research on th mini gastric bypass, one of my worries is bile reflux. Did your surgeon discuss this with you? The mgb has a high rate of getting bile reflux when compared to all other weight loss procedures. Sent from my SM-G991U1 using BariatricPal mobile app -
April 2022 Surgery Buddies

Hello I am new her . I was sleeved April 25th. I am on a clear liquid diet for 2 weeks. would like to know , how much weight did u lose in this stage ! And in stage 2 what is your purée stage like ? Food suggestion thank you 🙏🏼 -
I have read many posts on here about slowly losing weight after revision, if we work harder at gym and stay on track for diet, is it possible to lose more weight faster? I’m scheduled for June 9th revision surgery, and hope to lose weight as well as fixing GERD and hiatal hernia. I also have gained some weight back since I was sleeved. Thanks In advance for your thoughts and opinions.

Hooray, I finally made it to the puréed stage! So many choices that it was hard to decide. I had 1% cottage cheese with two teaspoons of puréed pineapple. My stomach did fine, but my head got a little dizzy towards the end. Probably a blood sugar spike. It was worth it! I’m going to try refried beans (runny) with cheese for dinner. Today is three weeks from my sleeve surgery. I’ve only lost 10 pounds since my surgery, but 29 pounds overall. I can really feel the difference in my legs when we go for a walk and no more body aches. We walked a steep hill in our neighborhood yesterday and I didn’t have to stop to catch my breath. It’s weird because I look the same when I see myself in the mirror, but I feel thinner. I really thought that the weight was going to just “fall off” faster. I have to accept that this journey is going to take a while and I need to be patient.

Any Tips to speed up fat loss?
lorlybeth84 replied to BeachBeauty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my VSG on 3/22 and haven't encountered this yet, however my husband had his in May of 2021 and has gotten some tips from his dr that I will share with you. Apparently making sure to drink 60-70oz of water is critical to weight loss, I know its difficult but you could try to up your water intake and see if that helps. Also I would advise tracking your calories. Portion sizes seem small but you may still be eating more calories and carbs than you realize. You could try talking to the dietician to see if they have any suggestions as well. Hope this helps! Good luck, the way I look at it any loss is better than no loss or a gain! You're doing great -
I am almost 6m out PO and I was wondering is there a way to speed up the fat loss progress? I am losing only 5-8 pounds a month for the past 3 months and I was wondering if there is a way I can kick start it back into overdrive? I had a goal to reach my goal weight by mid July but at this rate, I will be nowhere near it by then.

Trying to eat more veggies- 3 months post op
LaTiaV replied to fourmonthspreop's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Today I am 3 months PO. I did not suppose to eat salads according to my dietician but I had to travel for a couple of weeks and it was not always easy to have access to the food I was asked to have, so, small garden salads were awesome, just added 2 slices of ham or chicken. I had them with Italian dressing or ranch but only a few drops, added bonus was that it has eliminated the constipation completely. I told my dietitian and she was not too happy but she said if it was working to keep going only to be sure to add some protein like shredded almonds, chicken, tuna or turkey ( she said salmon too but I do not like salmon) and to eat the protein first. I cannot stand the pre-made protein shakes, so I make a smoothie with 1/4 banana. one strawberry and 6 blueberries, the last week I have been adding a few spinach leaves and Nopal ( cactus) then I add the protein powder with no flavor. I am loosing weight slower than many others in the February group but I am still loosing. -
I have one for medication allergies. I’m not able to add anything else because I’m out of room! I bought the bracelet from someone on Etsy years ago. They normally made bracelets & I told her what I needed. Now that I’ve lost so much weight I can slip it off!

I don't hit my one year until the end of the month. I keep wondering if I'm at where I'm going to land. I've been hovering around the same weight for about 6 weeks now. I have lost 77 lbs, started at 245, now around 168. (For context I'm 5'9", 49 y.o.) My highest adult weight was around 268..so in the grand scheme, I'm down 100 from my highest weight. I certainly have loose skin - and I have given consideration to getting my stomach and and arms done once things settle. I have still lost inches in the last couple months, so things are still changing. I am prefectly fine if this where I land. I have practically replaced my entire wardrobe, at this size 😂

Trying to eat more veggies- 3 months post op
fourmonthspreop posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey! I'm 3 months post op from gastric bypass. I've been doing really well getting in my protein and vitamins everyday and the weight is coming off. I feel like however I don't eat nearly enough veggies as pre op and wish I could add more for overall health, wellness and gut health. Do you have any tips or tricks on incorporating more veggies into your meals? I can't really have raw vegetables or raw leafy greans but raw cucumber, raw fruit, raw shredded carrot, raw onion all seem to be fine in moderation. I absolutely HATE mushy cooked vegetables and mostly ate all my veggies raw before surgery (while doing pre op weight loss). Everytime I put cooked vegetables on my plate, I barely touch them because I find them so gross. Anyone have any dishes or tricks they can share on how to incorporate more vegetables? Thanks! Today is my one year anniversary also! I feel like I have had the same ups, downs, and experiences that you have had as well. I have gone from 280 to 166 as of Sunday. I’m so afraid of regaining and also that I’m not at a healthy weight for my height (5’3) yet. Sometimes I have to remind myself of how far I’ve come. How far we have all come. It’s kind of mind boggling and amazing how far we have all come in a year. Congrats and happy one year!

Gastric Bypass in Tijuana?
Quesodip251 replied to Ninabnina77's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I used Dr. Armenta with Renew Bariatrics in Tijuana. He’s a hottie, I ain’t gonna lie. A lot of people use Dr. Green there but he’s so popular that he’s booked up 2-3 months out. Mine was a week ago so can’t comment yet on results. I had the SASI (mini gastric bypass plus sleeve removal) Cost was $5600 but is $5800 now. Make sure you ask tons of questions of the surgeon bc the coordinators don’t know what’s going on. It was all Americans in my cohort. The hospital policy is 30+ bmi but I’m not sure if they would make an exception for a revision. Worst case scenario is you could gain 10 lbs and then have it. -
Hi Possum, Yes I'm getting a two-for-one deal LOL I'm so glad that it's going to get fixed and I'm finally going to have a peaceful nights sleep without the fear of waking up with acid rushing up! Apparently when I lose the weight the hernia will not return, it's weight-related as I've been told by my surgeon, I'm supposed to be on two shakes plus low starch low carb vegetables but I haven't started it yet. I'll start right after mother's day lol I've already lost 13 kilos with my own efforts anyway so I'm assuming 1 week of liquid diet should be sufficient. Hope they can fix yours as well and all the best to you on the 9th keep me updated please! We got this girl! lol

First off, take a deep breath in and out. You’re still early on in your journey. A couple more weeks and you’ll be able to eat whatever you want again just in moderation (like we’re supposed to eat). This will pass. Change is hard. Many of us are able to lose weight on our own but that’s not what the surgery is about. It’s about “maintaining” it and removing the potential for many health comorbidities that could kill us without early intervention. Heck, I got down to a size 2 on my own but couldn’t maintain it and gained it all back plus some. God gives us blessings in ways that we won’t know until the future but it’s all apart of his plan. My own father had WLS but didn’t follow the rules and gained it all back and passed away of a heart attack a few years later. Don’t let these temporary early weeks push you off the bandwagon. You only have one life to live. It will get easier I promise! With love, Quesodip251
