    christmas eve food

I am 3 days post op and was fighting a bit of a battle with everything looking so good! I did really good and my family is very supportive so my mom served me my broth and the dinner table. I had no problem helping my mother get all the food together! Just think next year we will be lbs lighter and able to eat. Congrats everyone!
  2. I am needing some advice, but need it from someone who has their port in their shoulder area. I was banded on March 12th and my port is located in my shoulder area- between my breast and my arm pit. I am 5 weeks postop but it still hurts at night when I lay on it and I needed to know if this is normal. If nobody has had it placed there, I will have to call my surgeon and ask them, but I just thought if I could have the question answered on here, it would save time and I wouldn't bother them. Thanks!

    Going Shopping

For the past month I have been weeding through my closet. I have found some old clothes that I can now wear to work. My can wear pile is way smaller than the can't wear pile. My size has went from a 16 to a 14 (I'm guessing) in about five weeks. The 16's are baggy in the butt and waist. So I'm going shopping. My vacation starts Sept. 1 and will be heading to the beach so need some cute capris and tanks. Love that feeling. Deb

  5. Strenuous activity often leads to muscle soreness. Finding a way to reduce this unpleasant consequence of physical activity would would be beneficial. After weight loss surgery some of us discovered that we had muscles we didn't even realize we had, due to years of neglect. A team of Spanish researchers believes it has discovered a cocktail that reduces such discomfort. Their formula is a combination of watermelon and pomegranate juice enriched with citrulline and ellagitannins. The authors chose these ingredients because they are linked to beneficial metabolic effects and performance enhancement. For example, citrulline, a non-essential amino acid found in watermelon, helps reduce the accumulation of lactic acid, a major cause of muscle fatigue. Citrulline is also converted to nitric oxide, a chemical that increases blood flow and is believed to boost muscle performance. Pomegranates contain antioxidants and ellagitannins; the former help protect nitric oxide from being degraded, and the latter aids strength recovery. The scientists then recruited 19 young men, aged 18 to 30 with extensive experience in resistance training, into a double-blind randomized crossover study. They tested four different beverages: Watermelon juice (WJ); watermelon juice enriched with citrulline (CWJ); watermelon and pomegranate juice enriched with citrulline and ellagitannins (CWPJ); and placebo (sugary water with pink coloring). Each man consumed 200 mL (about 7 ounces) of one of the beverages at random, and then performed a physically intensive squat exercise. The researchers then collected blood samples and asked the volunteers to rate the muscle soreness of their legs on a scale from 1 to 5. After given a week to rest, the volunteers repeated the experiment with a different randomly selected beverage. This procedure was continued until every volunteer had consumed all four beverages. The results of the study showed that at three time points after the squat exercise (1-hour, 24-hour, and 48-hour), the watermelon/pomegranate cocktail (CWPJ) was significantly associated with reduced muscle soreness compared to placebo. In fact, by 48 hours, athletes reported no muscle soreness at all. Furthermore, when the volunteers drank the placebo, their blood tests revealed a higher concentration of myoglobin (a biomarker of muscle damage) than when they drank CWPJ. The cocktail, therefore, appeared to reduce muscle damage. http://www.acsh.org/news/2017/05/30/juice-cocktail-could-help-reduce-muscle-soreness-athletes-11354
  6. I had my first fill 3 weeks ago woke up Sunday unable to eat more then 3or 4 bites no matter what it is or how much I chew it. Any more is painful an wants to come back up. Liquids are fill just a little slower. Is this a problem or a good thing. :confused2:
  7. So I'm only 3 days out but this morning when I woke up and sat down to drink my 2oz of Protein shake...well it kinda hurt going down.... I wanted to see if others had experienced this or should I be worried? I have had a terrible time with gas pains so I contributed it to that.... but was wondering if this is what people consider being "tighter in the morning?" So...I drank some warm tea to see if that could help and it still felt uncomfortable going down... Oh! And I'm burping like crazy from the gas they pumped in me!! This won't mess up my band placement will it? I just want to make sure I'm doing everything like I should....
  8. I started back to work today...administrative in an adult day care. Loved getting back to what i love but tired a little easily. Am two weeks post op tommorrow. drinking and eating pudding and potatoes is too easy for me....i can't help being scared that i could just keep on eating, even though I am following instructions and taking 30 minutes or more to finish 2 oz. of creamed food or 1 cup of liquid. My doctor assures me that if I ate fast or more i would know i couldn't. Maybe i should just try to stop this crazy worry. years and years of having success and gaining back has made me worry that this isn't going to work either. Is that crazy? any councel out there? another thing- when did you start soft protein like tuna or salmon? I started my journey at 300 pounds and now I am at 276 so I am happy with that, but just afraid I will just stop losing. I probably needed to get back to work:001_smile:
  9. My nut had said that when we are ready for bread, that we should toast it first to see how we tolerate it. As I am learning, this is such an individual journey. But did I listen? NO..I had some graham crackers dipped in skim mild and that went down wonderfully, so I bought those little whole wheat "slider" buns, and had 3 oz of ground beef on it...It tasted so good the first few bites and then when I was about 3/4 of the way through this "mini burger" it hit me...OUCH! my little pouch was screamin! that is the first experience I have had like that. I guess I am kind of glad that I see how this little thing in me works, I could be a bit of a slow learner, and sometimes do not listen as I should, but that experience taught me life is never going to be the same again, and it is time to realize why I had this done and get with the program. Not trying to say this will be true for everyone, but for me, I guess bread and pasta, are out. Some have said that "flat bread" is different. Why would that be? And what does "toasting" do?
  10. I posted under a heading of transfered addictions earlier on another sight - the general one on here. I know i need to go on a 12 step type of program. Was going to get a note book and allow myself say $30 A WEEK to spend, if i dont spend it it adds up. Keep telling myself , or i should say asking myself do i really need it,or do i just want it as it is a good price, trying to turn from clothes food shopping to towels, sheets etc. Anyone out there had the same prob. Any advice ,reading material, etc. greatly appreciated.:confused:n

I am 28 yrs old, married with 3 wonderful children! I have been obese all my life and I am so ready to stop struggling with the yoyo diets I have been on. I see my surgeon for the first time July 8th (tomorrow!) I look forward to chatting with all of you and good luck to the future/newly banded people...and congrats to the people who have already been banded for a while and shed the pounds! Its going to be a lot of work, I know .... but I am ready for a big change and glad to have you guys here to listen

    I am stumped!

Now I realize why you are asking this question, because it is the same question I asked myself 1-2 months out where I was starving. (It was also the same question I asked myself dozen's of times over the years before banding when I kept deciding to give it one more shot the old fashioned way) You are in bandster hell of course and becoming depressed is natural. We have all been there, or will get there in the future. A lot of us have read something about it before we got there, but you don't realllyyy understand it until you have lived it. It is a miserable time where you doubt yourself, doubt your band, doubt everything. It is true, your band is not really helping you at this phase. I stalled out on weight loss for several weeks at this point. The only way I could get it going again was to cut out processed carbs. I ate only lean meats and vegetables with limited fruit and was able to start moving downwards on the scale again. I did not lose much from a few weeks out from surgery through my first fill. My first fill brought me down a few pounds quickly. However, what little restriction I felt was gone within a week. I started stalling again and had to really start exercising regularly to keep a downward movement on the scale. I could keep losing, but I was losing super slooowwww. However, as long as I kept losing even a little, I wasn't so depressed. Then came fill #2. This was a real kick in the pants for me. I was pb'ing everyday for the first week and a half and had decided on an unfill. Then I realized that the problem was me eating too fast & not chewing enough. I also was not going on liquids for a day after a pb to let my stomach rest. I started eating more like a bandster and found this fill gave me great restriction, and I cancelled my appointment for a slight unfill. I have not had to get another fill since as of yet and I am still losing steadily around 1.5 pounds a week on average. When I was in bandster hell, every day was a supreme struggle. Now, it has become more easy because my tool is working with me. Once you are at the right fill level, you can find success as well as long as you follow bandster rules and eat healthy foods the majority of the time. You can also lose weight at this stage as well. Low carb worked well for me. I didn't restrict volume so much, only certain types of foods. Exercise also worked for me. What kinds of foods are you eating? Are you tracking them by calories and Protein? What are you doing for exercise?
  16. Someone please help because I don't know what to do. I had my band done on may 24. Everything went great. Better than expected. Then on Friday I started getting a pain in my stomach. Nothing alarming at first just kind of annoying. The only way I can describe it is it feels like I am really realy hungry and my stomach needs to growl but it won't. It was not bad at first because I knew I was not. Long story short I got really sick on Saturday and Sunday. Called my doctor. We had me come in one today. He let 3 cc out of my band. Had one clue that I had anything in my band. So now he says it completely empty. So now the pain is worse. I have tried everything..... I have tried not eating.... Eating.... Mints. Eating or drinking seems to relieve it for about 30 minutes and then it comes back full force. Anybody else felt this? Does it ever stop? What do I do?
  17. Thanks for the tip. I looked at my instant protein and it does not have what I need. I hope this week my doctor OKs me for scrabbled eggs and cottage cheese.

I'm 2 weeks today and I am still sore.
  19. Hi all, My name is Katie. I'm a 25 year old mom, I have two little boys. Well I guess I am here because I've been overweight forever, but I've finally gotten to a weight where I can't stand it. Right now I am at 283 lbs. It's gotten so hard to play with my boys, and my 3 year old is one active little guy. Right now I am SOO excited to get started, but I have to wait for my husbands employer to switch our insurance. Which is really good sincethe new insurance company will cover the surgery. I am jsut not sure how long I will have to wait until I can start the process. I truly hope it's not too long because I would lovethe start out the new year with a new begining and a chance to be a healthier and more active me.

    11 month Stall

11 months out. Curious what everyone is eating at this stage. Appetite is up & energy is way down. Need to get the pounds shedding again
  21. I am 6 weeks post surgery. Everything healed well, but I have lost my appetite. I am still not on fresh fruit and vegetables or fiberous meats, but nothing is tasting good. My appetite was fine a week ago and I was actually looking forward to the new types of food I could eat at 5 weeks, but it is gone. I can eat 2 bites of something and next time I think about eating it, it makes me nauseated. Is this the after affects of anesthesia? or is this something that you experience from the surgery? Any ideas?

    October 2013 Bypass

I had my one month (5 weeks) doctors appt today. Lost 25 pounds since surgery (10/9). Everything is going good. Hope you all are good. I had a stall for like 5 days aroind week 3. I did not like that.
  23. My doctor told me I can eat between 800-1000 calories. I am 3 months out and have been sticking to 800. I feel like it's not enough anymore and tempted to move up to 900. My question is with 800 I have been eating between 650-850 and been losing about 1-2 pounds a week. Do you think if I increased to 900 it will slow my weightloss? I already lost almost 70 and I have a little less then 30 pounds to get to my goal and I don't want to ruin the steady pace I have been having. The bulk of my weight loss was the past 2 months this month has been slower but I'm happy. I hope I don't sound paranoid or goofy lol Thanks in advance for advice tips and opinions!
  24. So I got my approval and VSG surgery date (5/15 - yay!). During my pre op visit with the doctor, I asked about recovery time in the hospital and how he tests for leaks. I asked about going back to work. I've got my diet instructions. But after reading through the boards, I never asked about bougie size (how big will my stomach be post op). Is there anything else I missed that should be on my list of questions? I've got 4 weeks to ask until surgery! Thanks for the help!
  25. Another December 9th sleever here. Heading into the TMI area. I feel like I'm in bondage, Left arm has blood pressure and Left hand has IV. Right Finger has oxygen sensor, and Right wrist has 3 hospital bracelets, Nose has oxygen tube in each nostril. Legs have cuffs to prevent blood clots. Stomach has the bandages and I have a drain. Got my pain pump, and call button, and other room controls. Have my laptop and phone plugged in. Whew. And I have had to pee... a lot,so every time I have to go, I have to get unhooked from it all. Plus it takes forever to actually start going. I also Nurse game me omeprazole thru IV and that's generated lots of burping. Able to have ice chips but if I over indulge I get nauseous. Over indulge being about 15 ice chips. And I'm HUNGRY. That scares me, thought the hunger would be gone. Oh yeah, my scalp is itchy and dry. On the plus side my little cheats (the chicken and carrots in my "broth". The few ounces of turkey with a tablespoon each of potato, stuffing, squash and cranberry sauce. The 1/2 scrambled egg at lunch the day before surgery.. Those cheats did not come back to haunt me. I have a private room, Moving over to the post surgery threads, but wants to let you folks know it wasn't that bad. My complaints are all minor compared with my health issues due to obesity. Soooooooo glad to have done this. Good luck everyone, and see you on the other side~ Moving to the loser's bench. Can't wait till you join us there. Going back to sleep as soon as the nurses do their thing.
