Need your help - coming up on 1 year surgiversary...
gpmed replied to Margie122's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@Margie122 You have a really good outlook and it's inspiring! Your thinking sounds spot on — what can you do to help yourself today? You're controlling what you can by looking out for those little steps you can take that all add up. Believe me, I understand it's hard not to let these last pounds drive you crazy. I keep reminding myself that if I do the right things, it will come off, just like all the other weight. I hope your nut is helpful! I had to really push myself this morning to get out of bed for my walk. I'm really glad I did. I was thinking, does one day really matter? It does. One day is part of a habit. One day sets the tone for how easily I give in the next time I don't feel like doing it. It makes a difference and how I feel and how well I have my head in the game. And it helps determine how seriously I take all the other little steps I need to take. Thanks for this thread, btw. It's help to hear from someone in the same boat as me and to hear all the suggestions! -

I remember the stalls. It felt like they would go on forever, and my weight loss was done. Your weight loss now will have more stalls, more patience is required, and you will have a better time of it if you find other things to focus on. Just forget the scales. Join a gym or start a new class, stay with protein/high fat foods and your body will slowly (very slowly) release it. Don't try to wake your body up or shock it with diet changes. Just stay the course and it will stop being stubborn and release the last of it's fat. Most people do not slide into home base reaching their goal weight in 2 weeks. We will gently glide into our goal weight after months. 99% of us go into stall after stall the second year of the surgery. It's going to take as much time to get the last 20 or 30 lbs off as it did to get the first tonage of weight off. Frustrating, but reality. As I said, find something else to think about. It's hard cause my DS and weight was all I thought about for 2 years. But the more I tried to get the last 20 lbs off, the more stubbornly my body hung onto it. Drove me crazy. -
I feel your pain. I was sleeved may 15,2012 and my surgery weight was 127.8 now I am 116kg and nothing I hear everyone worried about only losing 40 60 pounds in 4-8 weeks then hit a stall me I've only lost 11kg and hit a stall, got sick and gained weight back! I am on iv not eating but drinking lots, it gets depressing

Hi, You can work the muscles in the quads and get tighter. I like to do Sumo Squats. Place your feet a bit wider than hip distance apart. Hold one dumbbell from the bigger side with the other side pointing down to the floor. I use about 25-35 lbs, but I've been doing this for a long time. Then, with your back straight, bend knees into a squat position. The weight will lower, but make sure your are not leaning forward or sliding your arms down (purposely reaching to the floor), then squeeze the legs and glutes and up to straight position. Do about 3 sets of 10-15 of these and you will feel it. When it gets too easy, add more weight.

Could NOT be happier with my choice of hospitals or surgeons. He said everything went flawlessly. Was expecting mild to moderate liver enlargement, but thanks to a 70+ pound weight loss before surgery that was not even a factor. Slowly feeling better each day. Be patient and listen to your pouch!!! Jeff

Today was my first day back on real food. For lunch I had a Chick-fil-a sandwich (no pickles) and a small order of fries. I ate very slowly and tried to concentrate on chewing very well. It took me about 45 minutes to finish and now I feel FULL. This is awesome!!!! Before my band, I would go to Chick-fil-a and get a sandwich, large fries and a 12 pack of nuggets. The nuggets I would eat in the car on the way home. When I got home I'd inhale the rest in about 5 minutes. This is so much better. Since my fill isn't until Sept.20, I'm really worried that I'll have to make my ticker go to the left. I'll be happy if it just stays right where it is until my fill. Of course I wouldn't mind if it continued on its merry way to the right. I have come up with a strategy to combat the fact that I can now eat real food. This past week I have been faithfully walking every evening. I go around my neighborhood and the distance is roughly (measured with my car) 1.2 miles. I walk this in 33 minutes on average. Tonight AND FROM NOW ON I am going to extend my route. My neighborhood is vaguely shaped like a E. I live in the middle of the top. I go down the vertical, along the bottom, turn around, go along the middle both ways and then back up and over to my house. Tonight I'm going to do all that, except when I get to my house I'm going to keep going. I'll walk outside the E from the top all the way to the bottom and then walk the E again. That should make my route (for those of you who aren't lost yet) roughly 2.5 miles. I'm hoping that will keep me from gaining before my fill. Teresita, thanks for the reassurance. Although I gotta wonder why the icon is running away?:rolleyes

It is very frustrating and disheartening to say that I have no support with my decision to have lapband. I am 25 and have only told a few about my decision. My mother, little brother and boyfriend all think it is an unnecessary choice. Any advice on what to do? I have my last weight loss visit this upcoming Wednesday and will hopefully have surgery at the end of July.

I've been doing the 5 day pouch test(finished yesterday) and haven't lost any weight, not even 1/2 a pound, granted it's TOM as well, so I'm not beating myself over it (last night, my last day i gave in to a glass of Rose and a piece of homemade wholemeal bread, the crusty bit dipped in aromatic olive oil ) So that wasn't a success for me, my own fault Yesterday afternoon however, we all went to the park, husband and 3 girls, and we had a blast! For the first time ever, I put my jogging bottoms on a sweatshirt, my trainers (sneakers) and felt really good about myself(I actually felt quite "cool" as opposed to fat, forty and frumpy) and I went on loads of "rides" with the girls. I've never done this before cause I always felt to old, fat, ugly . Yesterday I felt so young and carefree. My husband pointed out that I always used to just sit on a bench while they palyed. This is probably one of the best NSV in these five months since surgery. I am so happy (even though I cheated on my pouch test last night )

I had mine a couple of years ago, because I was constantly exhausted, and snores loudly. It had gotten worse with weight gain. It's definitely weird.... You are all hooked up, and sleeping in a weird place. When I had my study done, they only woke you to try the CPAP if you had a certain number of apnea events per hour. I was just barely under the threshold, which must be high, because I "woke up" about every three minutes. No wonder I was so tired!!! My only advice is to try to do something relaxing before you are supposed to go to sleep. I was in the bed trying to fall asleep for like an hour, and I wished I had brought a book or something. Here's me, all hooked up, lol... ~*~ Find me on YouTube: Trisha's Sleeve Story ~*~

I gained 3 lbs one month post op
Mphthegreat posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In my first month I went from 300 to 250lbs. Once I finally made it past the three week (everything makes me sick phase)… I actilually began eating a little later than recommended because I couldn’t keep anything down. I’m now 1 1/2 months post op… I’ve finally gained my energy back and am working out but I not only stalled but gained 3 lbs my mom feels like I shouldn’t get down about it or obsess about it but has this happened to anyone else? -
My husband and friend want to go to 6flags great America next weekend. I haven't been there since I was probably 16/17. The last time I tried a regular wooden roller coaster at mount Olympus, I got turned away because of my hips, at that time I believe I was a size 28. Before I started the surgery journey I was up to a size 30 and obviously could never fit in a roller coaster. Well, I am now 90 lbs down from that and now in a size 24 pant. I was wondering if anyone has any inkling if it's worth me even waiting in line for the coasters, (I know there are test seats, but id still be too embarrassed to try them) But I just want to hear any success stories anyone may have that may make me feel better about it! My husband went last year and was able to ride everything and he wears a size 42/44 pant and I put a pair of his pants on today and they fit me perfectly (weird I know, but i'm paranoid!) The last time I got turned away was a total dart to my confidence, although i'm a lot smaller, I just want to be 100% sure it's worth paying the money to go. Thanks!!!!

Mexico with Dr. Altamirano OR insurance here?
Fatty McFatster posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I am having a REALLY hard time choosing between having my band to sleeve revision surgery here on November 20th or in Mexico with Dr. A. Would love any input from others. I have so many Pros and Cons for each that my mind is just tired. If I go to Mexico I could have it with my wife the exact same day and we would be side by side every step of the way on this journey. However, I have already invested my time, emotions, and money (about $800) into having it here in the US. I am also VERY impressed with Dr. A in Mexico. We talked to him on the phone via FaceTime a few days and I was VERY impressed with him. When have you ever talked to your doctor on the phone? Personally, I have never talked to a US doctor on the phone in all of my 38 years. That was just a big eye-opener to me. He was so friendly, intelligent, and a joy to talk with (even though the call was with my wife). But on the flip side it is a little nerve-wracking to travel to another country to have such a major procedure done...and I won't be able to be right there waiting for my wife to come out of surgery if I am also undergoing the surgery the same day. So, we can't really take care of each other and help each other if we are having the sleeve done the same day. Another Pro to having it here is that it will be run through my insurance, so we have a few months before we get the bills AND we can then setup a payment plan. In Mexico it would all be due the same day...and even though it is much cheaper than here in the US it is still a lot of money to come up with all at once. I am also already a little envious of how awesome the BariatricPal Mexico team has taken care of my wife in regards to e-mails, phone calls, questions answered, etc. I don't get even 10% of that kind of specialized treatment from my weight management team and surgeon here in the US. And once she has had surgery and spent time in the recovery house I have a feeling I will be 100% envious of how awesome the Mexico team took care of her and I might even possibly regret having it here in the US...and I don't want that. Well, I guess I have done enough rambling. Just having a really hard time making the decision on what would be best for me and for us. So, if anyone has any advice I would much appreciate it. Thanks for listening. -
On the petite side..(closer to only 100lbs to lose after surgery)

Hi there We aren’t far apart - I started at 234, and am now 135-137 - nice and stable now for 9 months. I hit my goal, which was 154ish, in 6 months. I did work the thing pretty hard and seldom strayed from the eating plan, and honestly my loss was no slower than anyone else’s. I had previously had a gastric band which broke and I had slowly regained about 7-10lbs a year and was approachingbpre-band weight so had a bypass. I knew this was my last shot, so went for it! Totally reshaped my eating and started exercising. Started with an electric bicycle and, once some weight was off, started the Couch 2 5k app to start running. I run 3x a week now, cycle 3x a week, and gym 3-4 times a week. I love having lovely curves muscles now! You can do it - pick up sheer bloody-minded determination to bust a gut for 6 months over this (not literally of course!) and you’ll not be far off being able to try on every outfit in every shop! -
Caffeine & Carbonation?
kristy3k replied to tstevens28's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Research isnt conclusive but google it or talk to anyone that has gained back weight after gastric bypass and they will most likely site one of the two or both. How much is carbonation worth to you? I for one wont risk it. It's a personal choice for each of us... but only you can weigh the options. -
Liver Reducing diet failure.....
reachbree replied to oceangirlpc's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What is your surgery date? I am in the exact same situation as you except I was on liquids yesterday and had one healthy choice frozen entrée (veggies and meat only, 4 carbs, 27g Protein, 1g sugar) and of course my Water and Protein drinks and a 30 min walk. Woke up this morning to gaining almost 3lbs. I have NO idea why this is happening to me! it happened last week also, very restricted diet and I gain weight. When I first started 2 weeks ago I quickly dropped 4lbs...then it just stopped. I am going straight liquid today and might have to until my op. My surgery is next Thursday 6/16....6 days from today and I am devastated that my weight is going in the opposite direction when it should be going down, has me thinking if this surgery is even going to work for me if my body is going to be so stubborn. Hang in there! I truly believe that if we can stay strong and breeze through this part of the process, will make the early weeks after the surgery a lot easier on us. -
I started walking two days post op, albeit short distances. After about 2 weeks, I was walking and biking for 30-40 minutes a day. Added swimming as soon as the wounds healed (think it was at 8 weeks or so, can't remember). Wasn't cleared for weights until about 16 weeks and then it was moderate, nothing too strenuous. At 20 weeks, I started hitting the weights aggressively and haven't looked back!

I'm needing someone to kick my butt please!
susi1662 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started my journey in April, and I still have a long way to go (due to ins. issues I can't get my paperwork submitted until Jan 2011). I am on my required 6 month diet, and am not doing so well. The first six weeks, I lost 14 lbs, but in the past 2 months, I have neither lost nor gained. I know that I am not eating like I should be, I am falling back on bad habits; but I am now more active than I was before. Maybe that's what's got me maintaining, I don't know. I feel like I am not taking this seriously, since I have such a long time before I get banded. Is anyone else experiencing the same type of thing? I really want to get banded, and I know that once I am, I will be forced to change my eating habits and lifestyle, but I need to start that now! Am I sabotaging myself? Please help!!! -
Well, its been a tough time again recently (sorry I know I am usually either boasting or moaning on here!), and I've been pretty tough on myself over a lot of things, so I was in much need of a bit of cheering up. Today I have been overwelmed by compliments, and people seeking my advice on weight loss because of my "success" (I am very aware of the last 12lb, and my many flaws, but other people aren't seeing that). Firstly I was shopping, and an old friend saw me from a distance, but wasnt close enough to say hi, but she took the time to e-mail me, to say how well I looked, within 10 minutes another old friend e-mailed to say she'd seen my facebook picture, and needed my advice on weight loss because I was obviously doing well, and then when I got to work THREE seperate colleagues commented on my weight loss, and basically asked when I was going to stop, one even said that every monday morning she waits to see how much further I have wasted away!! I of course just mumbled and blushed a bit, but Gosh it felt good!!! Its funny because I don't recognise myself at all any more, I've just reviewed my day 0, 2 month, 3 month, 6 month and 9 month progress pics, and I don't recognise me in any of them, I look bigger than I ever felt in the first 3 pics, and thinner than I feel in the second 2 - this is a very strange journey, but I quite like it!

Lol! Same here. The cold weather here is gone (70s right now) but I just HAD to buy a new coat because I am traveling overseas next week. It is the same brand and model than last years, but 2 sizes down AND it won't fit next winter! Like you said this losing weight thing sucks and is costly! Congrats on your intolerable NSV. lol

Once the weight comes off your health and confidence will improve! It doesn't matter about the excess skin. Once you fall in love with the right person they will look past those imperfections! Just take it one day at a time. -
Mergatroy: I'll be your band buddy. I live in Norwood, MA. Banded 7/26/07. It's been terrific so far. I believe that exercising with the band is the best way to get the weight loss moving. LEt me know if you need help on specific topics. Take care. Sue

How many gms of Carb for weight loss
snapy17 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What amount of carbs do you loose the most weight on ? I have heard 20 gms is the ideal amount for Ketosis but I have found it nearly impossible to keep my carbs that low. I am at 60 gms daily. I continue to lose weight but I am very worried that it will stall due to that high carb amount. But 20 gms is not only not achievable but not sustainable either. Please share your carb counts & experience. Sent from my SM-G920P using BariatricPal mobile app
