Learning the hard way
RJ'S/beginning replied to kimpossible67's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This is one of the many changes that occur when having WLS. Things we found easy to eat before no longer agree with us. I can no longer eat roast beef or any solid meats like that. Pork kills me! Fish and the brown meat of chicken and turkey are my saving grace. I was able a few weeks back to eat a piece of beef and then tried again a week or so later and threw it up. I figure 2 years out...My relationship with certain foods is over! I eat lamb and rabbit and most fish now. Maybe that is what you are dealing with as well. I eat tofu now and other Proteins instead. -
I tried 3 shrimp, made me nauseous. Last week had half a piece of Salmon, I was sick for days. Still hadn't bought a clue. So I had half a piece of cod on Friday (fish n chips?). I'm still miserable. Bloated, the runs, nauseous, headache, hot flashes. Ugh. Buh bye seafood. 8 mths post-op.

Congratulations on your amazing progress! You should be SO proud of yourself! I am in a similar quandary, and am meeting with a new nutritionist next week to get some guidance. I work out hard (triathlon and strength training) a minimum of 6 days per week, and twice per day on most days. I take in about 1000-1300 calories per day, and my target split is 30% Protein, 35% fat, 35% carbs. I had surgery 14 months ago and I'm just 1.8 pounds away from my goal, but feel like I'm overdue for switching from bariatric-weight-loss mode of eating into athlete-fueling mode. I tried to talk this through with the nutritionist on my bariatric team and she didn't have a clue how to advise me. Thus, I'm meeting with a sports nutritionist next Thursday. I'll let you know what I learn!

Penni60 replied to Cindy Krebs's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
My doctor was really cool about the band when I told him I was getting it done. He seemed really interested in the nuances of it. His office is about three blocks from my house. So if you decide to use him then let me know when you have an appt and if I am not out of town then I would love to take you to lunch or something. His name is Balbir Singh, MD (pronounced SING)-He is an internist and deals mainly with high blood pressure patients. I go to see him for everything though. He is wonderful and the staff is sweet. Swimming after wls
Fluffnomore replied to sleeved215's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think there's the issue of submerging the wounds but also the pulling and pressure you will put on them in the pool. I was a little antsy in the 6 weeks too but in the end I'm glad I waited. It went quickly. -
Two days out and my stomach is talking
KatInFL replied to Mindful's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong, but at only two days out....I hope you're only ingesting what your doctor allows at this stage. You didn't say, so that's the assumption I'm going with. My stomach "chattered" non-stop for the first couple of weeks. My sleeve buddy had an easier time with liquids that were temperate, not too hot or too cold. It didn't seem to matter to my diva of a sleeve. It still chatters pretty routinely! It's not uncomfortable or a precursor of anything to come, it just talks to me sometimes. ~Kat -

My NUT directions are fore 8 weeks out. Stages are key...

Every surgeon is different, but at 4 weeks out from my surgery I was allowed 'regular' foods again. The first 2 weeks were full liquids, then 2 weeks soft/pureed.

its been a long wait. 6 months. yeesh. but i have pretty much jumped thru all of the insurance fiery hoops. Just one last trip to my primary to get my medical clearance on June 2nd(tomorrow). i had my pre-op testing last week. Surgery date is June 10th. for some reason i am so afraid of some sort of disaster happening before the date. lol i am washing my hands like a nut, so as not to catch any cold before then. haha. im both excited and nervous! cant wait to see the scale move in the other direction!!!

Good day everyone! I am currently going on my 6th month pre-op "diet" and have yet to lose any weight. I have completely changed my eating habits and exercise 4-5 days a week(30min-1hr) and still don't lose anything! Anybody out there not lose weight pre-op? I'm at a loss(mentally) right now. I don't know what else I could do. I am no where close to getting my surgery date, as I have to wait for open enrollment time for insurance to switch or upgrade my current plan. Any advice or recommendations would be awesome!! Thank you!

Ugh, I'm getting scared!
areellady replied to PghMomof3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You know I was thinking about being scared and i was reading in the complications thread about a gal who had to get her gallbladder out and she was so glad so now she wouldnt be sick anymore and she would start feeling better!! I think the difference is the type of surgeries...elective vs. HAVE TO HAVE IT NOW!!! But if we think about the lap band as HAVE TO HAVE IT NOW because we need to feel better now...then maybe it wouldnt be so hard to swallow the fact that you are having surgery. I mean, if you didnt have the Lap band surgery and then 2 years from now you have to have open heart surgery because you have a heart attack because of the obesity and comorbidities, you would be glad that the doctor was going to fix your heart so you could live longer....I dont know, I am just ranting...I was scared too and I dont think there is anything anyone can say to make it better or the nervousness go away. But, I do know, that my doctor told me three years ago that if I didnt do something about my weight I would not be around in 10 years...So three years later...I was 7 years away from the ten year time frame...and I got scared...more scared than thinking about the surgery... You will get through it and then wonder why you were so nervous...thats how it always works.....but in the mean time....CONGRATULATIONS!! You are gonna be healthy:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: Deanna -
So I'm 4 weeks post op & I have been eating soft foods just fine for about a week. However, I think I may have hit a stall? My weight has been fluctuating between 5lbs since about the start of week 3. It'll go up 5lbs, then back down. But for the last few days, it's been fluctuating just a few ounces. Can someone tell me if I've hit a stall? I'm not sure if a stall means your weight just stays the same, or if you're not losing anymore past a certain point. I'm quite frustrated but I'm trying not to be because #1 I've just started eating soft foods. #2, it's still early & #3 I should just stay off the scale. Though, inches wise, I'm not losing either. It's just frustrating because I'm working out, eating a sufficient amount of calories, and the only thing I can think of is Protein. Maybe I'm not getting in enough (I don't get in the recommended 60 daily ) I guess my ultimate question is: Is this normal to stall this early on?! When did you stall?! How did you break it? Getting sleeved in May...looking for buddies / mentor
caesar93 replied to NurseMichael's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Michael, I am new to this forum and new to the sleeve. My surgery date was 4/11/16. I was scared to make the step toward the sleeve. As you I was always involved in many sports. It just got to the point where I was active and my weigh never moved. I am 38 and my highest weight was 340. That was my active football lineman weight. Lol. I started my two week pre-op diet and lost at least 25 pounds in those two weeks. Mostly by cutting carbs but especially the calories. I even thought about backing out on surgery since my weight was finally going down. But I decided to see through my journey and had surgery. I am one week post op and am down to 288. So far I have no regrets and am here to answer any other questions you may have. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Is 4 cc's a lot? Cause that's what they claimed to put in there today. Also - should I still be THIS hungry after the fill? I'm STARVED but have to do Clear liquids for the next 3 days then start with Stage 2 for a week (liquid protein) Stage 3 for a week (pureeds) and then back to Stage 4 (whole foods). I'm just wondering what to think and what's standard.

Starting on Monday and will be 4 weeks post op. Do you think it will be too strenous or I should be ok? Also hoping this will kick start my weight loss so I can lose more.

I did two classes this week, I didn't like the first instructor but the second instructor today wow. I couldn't do everything but I broke a sweat and I feel it in my body lol. Kicked my ass in a good way, I did notice though that drinking Water and moving makes me have nausea so that may be an issue. It was like getting motion sickness after drinking water lol. But other than that I'm pretty good. Figured I'd start small and just stick to two classes a week or at least one and build up. Sent from my iPhone using VST

If 42 pounds in under 11 weeks is slow then I don't even know what to think about my 48 pounds in over 6 months! -
I know the conference is in NYC but when is it? I'd love a LGBT bandster cocktail party! I'm going to NYC next week, and want to go again for the conference!

Hey guys! I'm brand new to the forum, I am 30 years old and weigh about 310 lbs. I was at 400 at my heaviest. I've been struggling to lose weight for the last 4 years, I teach a low impact fitness group three times a week, and still it's a huge struggle to even lose percentages of a pound. The thing that pushed me into that first weight loss was a miscarriage, my husband and I desperately want to start a family. Last summer I finally put in a referral for sleeve surgery after doing some research and having an aunt go through the surgery. Now I am just starting the process, confirmed my interest and will be starting the educational portion. I was wondering if anyone can share their stories of the process now, and the best ways to start preparing even though I likely have 6 months to a year wait. We live in a very isolated small town, one very tiny grocery store so we don't have much access to the best foods or fresh produce, but I'm determined. Looking forward to the journey, and to hearing from other people going through the same thing. I am terrified honestly, but also crazy excited, Kayla

I will probably have to take something for life due to a pain patch I wear that is really constipating. I currently take 2 Colace in the morning and an 8 ounce glass of crystal lite with Benifiber. Also the occasional Milk of Mag. and yet I only go 2 to 3 times a week.
-
Somewhere I thought I read to try and give it about a week, if you aren't throwing up or as long as you can get liquids and protein in. I agree with finally -- a tiny bit out can make all the difference.

I had my second one this week and hope it lasts as well. Good luck to you. 3 hr drive for a fill? Wow.
