  1. This has been me! Surgery was 2 weeks ago tomorrow. I can home and took things slowly and wisely. About days post op, I felt like superwoman. I was getting out of bed at 5am, and I could go till midnight without stopping. Today, I’m exhausted. My blood pressure is dropping, and it’s probably time to call my PCP and let her know so meds can be adjusted. My bp in the hospital was 188/89 and today it’s 129/76.
  2. Well I had my nutrionist appointment yesterday and there is a different process for revisions. So from my understanding I'll have to have an EGD done to see the effects of the GERD. Then I have to meet with the surgeon and see if I qualify. So far since I have written the original post I have lost 10lbs and will just keep on trying my best. So hopefully I'll get some more clarity within the next few weeks.

    Calories per day

    I'm nearly 3 months post op and I eat between 1100 and 1300 calories a day. I've never stalled in my post op weight loss and my surgeon, dietician and I believe it's because I eat this level of calories.

    Thank you. I have been doing really well. Yesterday was just a hard day and I found myself really struggling mentally. Physically it has been far easier than I ever imagined. My pain and discomfort has been minimal to nonexistent. I was able to eat some cottage cheese and that felt really good. I have zero appetite for food, other than my fantasy cravings. I have a new attitude today. I am very grateful and I am excited to see where I am the next couple of weeks. Hearing from others who have been there definitely helps.
  5. I have had multiple issues since having my surgery. First thing I was taken off my blood pressure meds, now I need them more than ever due to skyrocketing blood pressure. I had a diuretic for my previous pills but they won't give those to me so the pill I have barely works. I hit my first stall less than 2 weeks out from surgery and am now in another. (Stalls suck) All of my old health issues came raring back with a vengeance, (hoping as the weight drops they will go away) and now have some new ones. Had the lab take blood and she hit a nerve so I am dealing with the aftermath of that. The NUT wanted no chicken, beef or pork for the first 4 months so with my dietary restrictions this is making things a bit harder. (Just eating more veges) I am having issues with constipation and called my dr. office for help. Lets see eat more fiber and drink more water. I have always done that. I drink over 70 ounces a day (probably be more now since its warm outside) I increased my fiber from around 15 g to 20-24 g. Not helping. So why are they treating me like I'm lying? So I have had to figure it out on my own. Probably the amount of iron I am taking in. So I am going to adjust that myself. On Saturday I decided to stop feeling sorry for myself and go have fun. I went out to the mall with a friend. All that walking made my hip a bit sore but I ignored it thinking not used to walking around for two hours. Yesterday rolls around I stop at the grocery store after seeing my doctor and getting an xray and when I stepped off the curb my hip almost gave out. So here I am sitting in my room not feeling too great waiting to call the doctor again for another appointment. Its been fun these past two months.

    Caffeine

    Hello Melissa4444, I am now 11 weeks postop gastric bypass. My surgeon just cleared me to have caffeine last week. I would recommend starting back on caffeine slowly though. On the first day last week that I tried regular coffee around lunchtime, I really felt the effects and had difficulty falling asleep that night. Now, I just limit my caffeine intake to the morning hours. Of course, everyone is different. Maybe your team will have a different position on caffeine and when/if you restart, it will be a different experience for you.

    check with your clinic. Surgeons are literally all across the board with this. There seems to be no consensus at all. Some people are drinking it even before they leave the hospital. Other patients are told they can't ever have it again, for the rest of their lives. Most seem to be somewhere in the middle - as in it's OK after a certain amount of time (one month, or three months, or six months..) and/or in limited quantities (1-2 cups a day, for example).

    Did your surgeon give you anything for nausea? Thankfully mine did and it has been a life saver. I had to take it regularly the first week but I don't seem to have to take it as much this week (WK 2). I take it at the first sign on nausea and it has allowed me to eat some cream of mushroom soup strained which helped a lot in terms of energy. I just learned about sugar alcohols too and plan today to severely reduce my intake of them because apparently, they can cause gassy and bloaty gut, nausea and diarrhea! I had a horrible first week because of that so I'm hoping that reducing them will help reduce some of those symptoms! That gas pain was the WORST part of the entire surgery process for me. It was worse than any pain I've experienced in my life but thankfully, my surgeon was available on my first full day home and suggested something that worked to start moving the gas around and within 24 hrs I was starting to feel better! I hadn't felt the gas move at all from the minute I got out of surgery, including no burping or flatulence to help get it out so his recommendation was a blessing!

    Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I tried some cream of mushroom soup yesterday and it was actually really good and I seemed to have tolerated it well. I wonder if I can eat Grits for breakfast? They can be made pretty runny and my list for this week says watered down hot cereals. They are tiny pieces though so I may have to double check with my surgeon before trying on my own. I have done some reading on sugar alcohols and I think I may have found the culprit for at least the bloaty gassy type feeling I still have in my gut. I was reading the guide from my nutritionist and there was one short line about sugar alcohols and how they can cause gas/bloating, diarrhea, etc. I have been eating a lot of sugar free jello and Popsicles but had no idea that watching the amount of sugar free sugar alcohols I am consuming, is important! I learned, possibly the hard way, that reading each food label carefully, is super important! I wish I had caught that days ago because today will be a restart for me in order to try to reduce my overall discomfort which I am cautiously sure, may have been caused by sugar alcohols! I'm not a sweets person by any stretch of the imagination so it's just not something I have typically had to look a lot for. Crazy how surgery like this can make us smarter. Haha! I can see this journey will also be an incredible learning opportunity which is good for me because I love learning about all kinds of things. Thank you again! I appreciate all of the wonderful advice and experience I have already received since joining this forum just yesterday! ❤️
  11. I have everything done to get approved by insurance. Did my EGD, nutritionist app, stress test and psych now just waiting for insurance to approve and get the call so I can start my 2 week liquid diet.

    This is my first post. I am scheduled for July 22nd. Still waiting for insurance approval. Researching all of my vitamin options now. I have two week pre-op of 4 protein shakes plus any other liquid/broth and one protein bar. I am excited and nervous at the same time.

    Started WK 2 and Starving

    Soups were my saviour because those shakes were disgusting & bone broths tasted too salty. As for feeling dizzy, lacking energy, etc. is to be expected you just had pretty major surgery. Think of all those staples & stitches holding your tummy together. Your body needs time to heal & recover. The surgery itself is quite a shock to your body too. Rest. I spent a lot of time on my couch & just light pottering around my house & taking shirt strolls. No way could I have cleaned my house. Besides being physically unable I would not have wanted to compromise my healing. Add an electrolyte drink to your fluid roster to give you a bit of a boost. Yes, some people can go back to work after a week but others need longer because we all recover at our own pace. (I needed all of 4 weeks & returned part time due to low BP making me lightheaded & doughy in the head - always had a pre disposition to low BP.) Any cream soup is fine: chicken, beef, pumpkin, mushroom, broccoli, cauliflower, potato & leak, tomato, etc. Some people find tomato too acidic but give it a try & see how you go. I diluted the soups (extra milk or water) to make the flavour less intense & thinner & easier to swallow plus it meant I was drinking more fluids. I also strained them to ensure there weren’t any chunky bits or bits of herbs or vegetables. You can also eat the broth part of pho, wonton soup, etc.
  15. Stalls happen. Frustrating & demoralising at times but part of the process. But you also know you have been going off plan which is hindering your weight loss too. You know what you have to do to get back on track. Remember the benefits of the surgery don’t last forever. Take advantage of them now. Take your lovely puppy for walks. Ditch the carbs. Stick to your plan. Ensure you’re meeting your fluid & protein goals. Check if you’re really hungry or just head hungry. Are you hungry for a specific food or food type? Does it pass if you distract yourself or have something to drink? Real hunger feels different to head hunger. For me I get restless & feel like something is wrong. It doesn’t pass & I don’t crave anything specific. You can do this.
  16. So alot of you are aware I have been in a full on stall for 5 weeks now..ugh.....anyway today or I should say within the last few days I have broke the stall and lost 4.6 lbs FINALLY!!! How many have noticed the inches coming off even tho no weight loss occurred? I have lost alot in my chest area, my bra band was a 46/48 circumference. I am now in a 42. I have noticed the way clothes fit looser and especially my shirts in the bust and some off my belly. I am pleased and thankful for the non scale victories I am starting to see.
  17. I am just coming off a 5 week stall. It was very frustration to say the least. Not a single pound lost in a full 5 weeks.....thats so unreal. I hated it lol. Today I wnt to the Drs office and I was down 4.6 lbs. Ill take it!!! Hang in there

    Blah...my first stall...

    Thank God I broke the stall after 5 weeks. It wasnt a big break through (4.6 lbs) but at this point I will take anything. I am soooo hoping my body has broke through and doent stall out again! It drove me bonkers and I felt like such a failure. Ive had a little talk with my inner self and hopefully I just keep on going and doing what I am doing. With any luck I will continue to lose. I think getting my fluids daily is a problem for me. when I drink to get my fluids in then I have a problem eating (too full) and vice versa. I think I need to find a happy median so I can be good on both protein and water.

    4 months out and stalled all month!

    I think you should continue sticking to your diet plan. Stalls do happen and at times quite irritating especially in the first 6 months when you expect your weight to fly away. I have had slow losing months every other month since the surgery. I stalled about 3 weeks or so too around month 5 where I barely lost 4 or 5 pounds that month. But then weight continued to fly the next month. So, it'll happen as long as you stick to your diet routine. Hope you break the stall soon.

  21. I recently decided to try out the sous vide function on my Instant Pot, and I'm loving it! It's a great, practically foolproof way to cook chicken breasts perfectly. I'm going to try a steak next week. Spinach artichoke stuffed chicken breast (with side salad) Chicken broccoli roulade
  22. How do you stay focused? I'm struggling a bit the past three days.  All I want is sweets and carbs.  I have no clue what changed but for some reason I'm craving hard.  I'm literally dreaming about food and when I wake up, I'm thinking about my next meal.  I'm not "hungry" but so munchy.  I'm trying to stay focused, busy, exercise and the likes but this looking struggle is getting to be so hard.  I meet with my nutritionist tomorrow and I'm so hopeful she has some advice.  My protein intake is great, liquids on point, even throwing in some raw veggies and berries to curb the sweet/carb craving.  Thoughts?

    Heading into week two of pre-op clear liquids is killing me today. The idea of any broths makes me nauseated and jello has made me gag since the beginning. I’m trying to hold out for my surgery date Thursday and hoping I somehow miraculously become ok with clear liquids for one week post op diet!

    Hahaha! That was preop eggs. Now... I'm on the 2nd week of liquids which kind of sucks butttt, only 4 days from pureed week so it's definitely worth it! Sending my best of the best wishes to you! I hope you'll keep us posted! Super excited for you!
  25. Hahahah. I was surprised my surgeon let me eat anything. I had always read a full liquid was the norm. And here you are eating eggs! I'm so jealous. 😂 But all is well. I ended up losing about 27 lbs over the two weeks. About 6 days in it got so much easier, like a light switch. And I'm very ready to be cut open tomorrow!
