  1. I had the surgery in May, received my fill in September. I don't know if I am to restricted or I just can't eat certain things anymore. No pasta will stay down, or potatoes or bread. Does anyone else experience this? I can't eat any red meat it doesn't stay. I've lost alot of weight but I think it is because more comes back up than stays down. I can eat salad, sometimes chicken. Fish stays. Not all vegetables. I chew, chew, chew but certain things just don't stay or feel good going down. Is this normal? Go back next week to doctor. I can't imagine getting a fill as I think I am too restricted.

    Shortest Time Between Fills?

I just had my first fill 6 weeks after surgery. Second fill in 6 weeks, then after that I can do every 2 weeks if I need it. My doc does it this way to allow the stomach to heal and build up scar tissue to prevent any problems. They are aggressive with fills and go by how you are feeling. For a first fill I recieced 5.4cc in a 10cc band
  3. We are sleeve sisters! I am glad you had a successful surgery. I am hungry too but am on full liquids. I too am on restriction until 8 weeks postop just a slightly different schedule. Can you add beneprotein to your clears? Also, dont hesitate to call your NUT and explain what youre felling. Hang in there and every day is a day closer to goal.
  4. I'm 4 weeks out from RNY and I've noticed that almost every time I eat, I become nauseas almost immediately. I feel like I'm eating slowly enough but I'm sure I could work on that. Some things, especially meat, comes right back up so I'm wondering if it is an eating-too-fast thing. (The weird thing is that the throwing up isn't all that bad. It just kind of comes back up). Any ideas?
  5. Any other guys out there finding out you can eat and eat things without issue BUT you're still losing weight? Anyone else doing no carb like me? I'm living off of meat, wheat thins, cashews, and right now I"m munching on some BBQ Pork skins (who knew they were high in Protein, low fat, low cal?) I never had any issues with moving back into solid foods after being sleeved Jan 12th. I probably advanced much more quickly than what I was suppose to but I never had any pains or food intolerance's. Hell I can drink and eat together to some degree and can chug a bit still. Maybe I'm not mentally realizing that even though I'm eating more frequently, the quantity and the food choice is totally different than pre op? Anyone else noticing this? I'm still losing on average of 5 pounds a week like this and I'm right at 100 pounds lost since Jan. W
  6. I will be on liquids for 4 weeks, then puréed foods for 4 weeks, soft foods another 4 weeks, and finally month 4 solid foods.
  7. Hey guys! So I had a very successful surgery on December 13th, and am now at home getting along just fine. .....Except for one problem: I CANNOT HANDLE ANY MORE CLEAR LIQUIDS! I was on one week clears pre-op, and breezed through it! I even had moreenergy than before. No issues with it at all. Now, post- surgery, I am on the same diet, but I cannot have any protein powders at all. I am extremely hungry. I also find that my tastebuds have changed, and all the SF Jell-O, Gatorade, juice, etc etc tastes so sweet and grossly fake. The company I went through (not the surgeon) advocates 2 weeks from my leak test of clears, then 2 weeks of full liquids, then 2 weeks of mushies, then 2 weeks of soft. Does this seem intense to anyone else? I'm not even dying for things I can chew, just some strained mushroom soup or something! I need some advice (as I feel I am truly going crazy). One week post op, am I ok to have full liquids? Or something? Anything?
  8. I was banded the same day as you. My doctor told me that the incisions would feel fine in a few days but the port incision would be swollen, bruised and/or sore for 3-6 weeks. Sorry, I know it's not fun to think of. I guess because I knew that going in I was prepared so it's not terrible but it's certainly not fun!

    hating protein

I have the unflavored and chicken soup Unjury. I didn't like the unflavored in everything but it wasn't bad in blended up soup or instant potatoes. I also put unflavored unjury in baby cereal and instead of mixing with water or milk i mixed in no sugar added 100% juice. I also added a bit of the strawberry protein powder to a berry based yogurt. I started out on the protein shakes and just couldn't get all that liquid in, and quite frankly got tired of it as well, but I did what i could fit in. Hang in there. When you get further along you can cut down on the amount of shakes you drink and get protein from other sources. BUT you will still need to drink some protein. I will be 7 weeks post op on Monday. I have Body Fortress Whey ISOLATE protein which is 30g per scoop. I throw some frozen or fresh strawberries and banana in my nutribullet with 100% cranberry juice and then shake in the powder once that is blended. I make up the rest with nuts, yogurt in the morning, cheese, cottage cheese and the P3s they have out is really good. I can eat beef jerky, which i love because there is a lot of protein there. It gets easier. Wish I had an answer for you, but really its just that part you have to get through right now. I thought the exact same thing though, lol. Try mixing unflavored in things with flavor and dont forget you can use any seasonings you want. Good luck!
  10. depends on the doctor. mine said two weeks. I am doing 12 days off from work. exercising depending on what kind was varied. no weights for a month greater than 10 lbs.

    One week post op!

At 4 days out I was only allowed full liquids, maybe clear liquids and protein shakes, but we were not allowed pureed foods until week 3, good for you, glad you are feeling better.
  12. I felt the same way. I am 3 weeks post op and I am very happy. The first 2 weeks weeks were tough but since I moved to soft foods I am happier. You are mourning the loss of food. It is normal. You made the right decision.
  13. I just got my first fill (1cc) three hours ago and I am so hungry already! Is that normal and do i need to just bite the bullet and hold on till my next fill (next month)?
  14. If you just got your fill 3 hours ago, I am guessing you havent eaten? I dont know what your docs orders are, but I am supposed to be on liquids for 48 hours after and then move to mushies. Maybe you docs orders are different. Give it a week or so of regular solid foods before you go back in for a fill. You wont be able to tell if you have restriction while on liquids or mushies. I had 4ccs my first fill...no restriction. 1.5ccs my second fill (I called and got in two weeks after my first), and I felt a little something but not much, so i called again and got in 1 week later and he gave me .5ccs and I have restriction . That was almost 5 weeks ago and I had to call and move this weeks fill back 2 weeks bc i am still pretty restricted. Hope that helps. You will get there. Hang on through Bandster hell.

    Scare And Unsure...

i think most of us are emotion eaters, I know I am. the weeks b surgery i got rid of all the junk food in the house and put in all the post op foods so I could just concentrat on this new plan and getting rested after surgery. Mentally that helped a lot. I still want to nibble but there is nothing here and I am full. I like the band so far as it take a lot less food to make me feel full and that helps a lot. it is a diet like all others but unlike the others i am not hungery and I dont have to eat a ton of salads. Good luck with your decision it was a good one for me. line dancer

    Overwhelmed...

It took me two years to figure it out cause I had a couple of people I know that had it done and I wanted to make sure that's what I wanted I also watched how it affected them in eating and mind set it's not for everybody but u REALLY have to set your mind for it since your on this site try the Lapband diet pre op for 2 weeks and see if your ready and DON'T CHEAT, then try the post op Diet it sucks both of them but before you know it , then you might have lost weight on your own and then talk to your Doctor or the lapband surgeon to see if you might be ready or ask if you might be able to see real life people that you can talk to that have had it done and their pics of before and after it might help , and I hoped this suggestion helped.

    Stall 7 weeks out

You have no idea how normal that is. Don't worry, you'll start losing again. Your body is just readjusting itself. I'm 7 months post op & I had a 2 month stall where 2 numbers were just going back & forth. The scale FINALLY moved today. Added more walking.....don't worry!
  19. Hi, I am new here. Just registered, and I am scheduled for my surgery on Dec 14. I have been thinking about WLS for 20 years. I'm 53 and the past 3-4 years have been bad for me in terms of getting around. The deciding factor for me happened this summer when I went to my nephews wedding. I live in Michigan and the wedding was in South Carolina. Although I was there I really felt like I was unable to participate. I didn't go to the beach with the others, didn't go on the tour of the area, didn't go shopping, etc.... Just kinda stayed in the house the whole week while everyone else had fun doing things. When I got home I decided this is it. and started by attending a seminar and now here we are 6 months later and I am one week and one day away. I go from being scared to death to excited. I can't wait to get my life back. There are so many things that I used to do that I don't do anymore and am really looking forward to being able to do it all again. Wish me luck and I would love to hear some success stories from anyone out there. Thank You... Middlesister
  20. So when I saw the new dietitian a couple weeks ago she gave me some great ideas about what different Proteins I could try. The first was a Protein from GNC called AMP. i found a small-ish resealable bag and chose Strawberry!!! i hate that most of my proteins aren't available in strawberry so i'm excited about this option. The second option is a drink from Atkins called LIFT. 21g protein per bottle! Not really a shake, more of a vitamin-Water type drink. I FOUND THEM AT MY WAL-MART ON CLEARANCE!!! for $7 a pack. normally they are 9.99-11.99 from what i can find online. so i just got one, but let me know if you are a fan, because i'll pick up more. Isopure is the devil to me. Somebody on these boards once told me that 'isopure tastes like cat ass' and seriously, they are right. i can't stand that stuff. Next- online things. I am a huge fan of youtube and love to watch inspirational videos there, plus old episodes of Fat Doctor. One thing that i fell upon when looking at lifting/bodybuilding videos was a great couple called Fit Couple Cooks. They do meal prep. Absolutely GENIUS!! love their prep videos. they weigh EVERYTHING. and all the recipes are basic-stuff you would have. shrimp with cauliflower rice and veg. butter chicken. chicken fajitas, beef and veg. lasagna. ALL great stuff. they portion and give you tips for storage/freezing. they each have had a significant weight loss journey and he is a registered dietitian so they are pretty knowledgeable. the best part, most of the meals cost about $3-5 per serving so they are very cost friendly. That's it from me. getting late. have a great start of week!

Gain weight during 6 month diet....

I just had my final weigh in. During the entire 6 months, I only lost a total of 14 pounds. At my 4th visit I had gained 2 #'s back and what my physician told me was that it was good because that will show the insurance company one of the main reasons I can't do this without the sleeve...duh because I fail at diets!!! They're submitting my paperwork for approval next week! Good luck to you all.
  22. my doctor's office receptionist screwed up and called today to tell me they won't allow me to move up my fill and they have a policy where I have to wait 6 weeks before my next fill...so they had to push my appointment back again until Oct 19th!! ugh!! Im so frustrated and I thought I was going to get some help next week..now I have to wait another 3 weeks...bummer!!!
  23. I went for 2 weeks and lost nothing too...but I keep telling myself look where I have come from. It took a lot of years to get here and this is not magic..keep plugging away!!!

    Can water be a gauge?

Is being able to drink (gulp) 6-8 onces of Water in a few seconds a gauge for determining if another fill is needed? After three fills, I have some restriction, but can eat most anything slowly except bread which has never worked for me since banding. My last fill was on 12-14-05 for a total of 2.25 in a 4cc band. I have not lost any weight since then. A week ago I pb'd quite a bit. This week no problems. I'm craving no, no's like ice cream, candy, chips...and unfortunately, I can eat all those goodies way too easy! 1.) I'm many years post menopause so that's not a craving issue, and 2.) I'm not giving in to eating the aforementioned no, no's on a regular basis...just a couple of times since banding 4 months ago. OK, so long story short: I've lost 45 pounds and I'm not complaining about that. I also know that not losing weight in over two weeks, eating too much and being hungry are all signs that one may need a fill. What I'd like to know though - would it be correct for me to conclude that on its own, my ability to gulp down that much water easily, means it's time for a fill? What duhya think? :think

    The Damn Shoulder Pain! Help!

Oh how I feel you, today is 1 week for me and the first day without that shoulder pain! I took 4 boxes of gas x strips this week, i don't think it helped. i couldn't take deep breaths. The only thing that seemed to help was walking. Ofcourse i was so tired from no sleep, that it was a challenge. Try to get through the next two days. I feel for you, I really do. It sucks. Someone told me to use a FLEET supository, and it works to get the gas out, I didn't try it, I just found out about it today. It's an option.
