What did you revise to? I'm in the same pre-open condition with a 2005 rny and Dr wants to revise to sleeve. -
My names Tina and I live in Tulsa too. Dr Varnell is my Dr. I'm having a band revision to RNY. In exactly TWO WEEKS!!! Freak out time. I'm having mine done at the Surgery Center Tho his other office.

Has anyone had a revision. I had my lap band taken out in March due to some awful situations and just a huge mess. Now I'm in the process of preparing for the sleeve. I'm excited but nervous. Anyone doing the revision or have had it done? What has your experience been? Thanks in advance! Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

Revision From Band To Rny And Why.
Vicki Loichinger posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am in the process of insurance approval to have a revision from Band to RNY. I have had my band for seven years. I have been very lucky to have not had any complications, no slips ect. My band is unfilled now, because i never did get the 'sweet' spot, either to tight and things would come back up or I would revert to soft high carb foods, or too loose and I can pretty much eat anything. I had my surgery for the band in Cincinnati Ohio, (I live in Indianapolis) The surgeon Dr, Trace Curry was excellent, I do think traveling back and forth for fills ect did hinder me getting where I needed to be for my fill to be right. But no matter what the band was not going to help most of my medical issues. Since the band I have lost and gained the same 30 to 40 pounds. Now at my heaviest. And the band did not help any of my medical problems. I am hoping the RNY both with the smaller stomach and mal absorption and the actual surgery itself will help with my uncontrolled type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance. I am so sensitive to insulin that I swell and ache all over but I have to take large amounts to keep my blood sugar down. It is like I am on a merry go round, hurt, can't exercise, can't exercise, gain weight, blood sugars out of control, more insulin, can't breath because of severe asthma and copd, need steriods about once a year, higher blood sugars, more weight gain, can't exercise, and around and around we go My hope and prayer is that this surgery will add years to my life that I can spend with my children and grandchildren. I need to GET a life, because what I am doing right now is not living. -
Like everyone else, I am thrilled w/my experience w/Dr. Aceves....my revision couldn't have gone better

Dr. Kelly vs. Dr. Aceves
LilMissDiva Irene replied to TheSkinnyCow73's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my revision with Dr. Aceves - and never have anything but rave reviews for him, the hospital and his staff. That said, I've not come across any bad information about Dr. Kelly except one time. I've also never seen an actual account of that incidence either, it was just hearsay IMO. I KNOW for a fact based on my own personal experience that Dr. Aceves is an excellent choice. Good luck!! -
Everyone is most definitely different....im on "full" liquids...things like yogurts...sugar free puddings...optifast shakes/soups...etc. And the struggle has been real for me. Not eating solids yet and the liquids are filling me up quick. I am only able to take in about 1-2 oz. of liquid and I have to wait 30-60 min. before I can "sip" again. I am definitely not complaining...this is a Gastric Bypass that was revised into a Sleeve. I went out and bought nectar Carribean Breeze Protein mix and the Isopure Protein Watee ...like someone posted earlier they have 40 grams per bottle. Hoping these will help break up the chocolate and carmel shake routines. I wake up sipping....go to sleep sipping...but its hard to get at least 80 grams in per day ....but again Im thankful.

Surgery in Monterrey mexico
MarinaGirl replied to laura071693's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I’m having plastic surgery with Dr. Sauceda in mid-Feb 2020. What surgery did you have done with him and when, and how do your scars look today? Are they jagged, thick, good belly button, etc? And what kind of stuff do you think I should bring with me; what’s essential for recovery at the Hampton Inn? And your profile says you’re having a revision from MGB to RNY in less than 2 weeks. Do you mind sharing why and who is going to do the surgery? I had an MGB in TJ in April 2017; acid reflux was improved but then I developed bile reflux, so in July 2018 I had a hernia repair and Nissen Fundoplication (in the U.S.) and I am doing great now; no more reflux of either kind. -

Banded X 5 Years = Tortured X 5 Years
kekerene replied to bindi's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was banded in 2006 and had all the same issues you are having. Lost 60 lbs, threw up all my food, heartburn, tired and sluggish all the time. Then I gained it all back plus some when the band slipped out of place on me. The worst 5 years of my life to say the least. I was also cash pay. I paid $17,000 for the band. After it slipped I had a revision to the sleeve on 06/23/11. Best decision ever. I am down 87 pounds and still losing. I do not throw up my food anymore and I feel so healthy and vibrant. I was self pay again for the sleeve and the revision cost me $11,500 in Mexico with Dr. Aceves. It was worth every single penny. I could not be happier -
I saw a lot of posts here and on a Facebook from people who had the sleeve getting a revision to RNY. Also the chances of GERD going away were said to be better per my surgeon. Also I have disordered eating and need the more restrictive diet post RNY. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

December 2013 Revisions: Get in touch!
nursebeccarn posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi, I just recently joined and was hoping to find some other people who also had Band to Sleeve revision around the same time I did. I had my lap band in 2010 and had all the usual complications. On December 20th 2013 I had the band removed and the sleeve done all in the same procedure. I was hoping to find some others to keep in touch and provide each other support throughout the stages! I'm looking forward to meeting everyone! -
My clinic's pre-op food plan is low carb/high protein until two days before surgery. Those two days are "clear liquids only". The pre-op diet avoids starchy vegetables, rice, anything made with flour, any fried foods, any processed foods. It also avoids fruit, which is a sticking point with me. Yes, fruit has carbs, but it also has fiber and the body processes it differently from other carbohydrates. I've lost weight while eating fruit, but they cracked down on me, saying I was "non-compliant", so I've had to wean myself off fruit. I still don't have a surgery date for my RNY revision, but it is likely to be in October.

Beginning my Journey
AutumnBlueCarmen replied to Lissa's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Lissa, I'm so glad you are here. IMHO I think your surgeon is 100% right. My BFF had lap band surgery and she is a physician. She has had lots of problems with it. I was actually scheduled to do lap band on July 22 and backed out and changed to sleeve. If you look at a lot of peoples posts on here there are A LOT of people who revise the lap band to sleeve. I do not want to have to mess with that. In my thinking....the lap band is a piece of plastic...with bladders and tubes. It WILL at some point wear out...just like plastic does. We are talking plastic inside a body...our body doesn't just sit there either. This plastic is going to have to go through fills and unfills and the movement of our body. If you have the flu and are throwing up you have to have the fluid removed so you don't make it move. Then after you are done having the flu you have to go and get the fills slowly put back in and pretty much start all over again. There are just so many possibilities of problems with the lap band. ((GEEZE I HOPE I DONT GET SUED))!!!! So anyway, that is my 10 cents. I hope that helps. Good luck with everything. I hope to see you around and hear more about your journey! -
Hi..... Im new here and 5 days post op band removed (banded 2007) and sleeved
AngelEyesInNJ replied to Egan317's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wasn't a revision but the soreness will last for a while. My post-op the first week my doctor just wanted me to concentrate on fluids and not worry about protein. I have only had maybe 2 ounces of water since surgery it is too hard for me to get down so I have been drinking powerade zero. I am now a little over a month out and still can not get in 64oz of fluids but I try and I am now able to get in at least 60gr of protein thanks to the shakes. The fluids will get better as you heal, right now your tummy is swollen so in time you'll be able to drink more. One thing I would suggest is to get some pedialyte popsicle and see if you can get them down to help ensure you do not get dehydrated. -
Just Had My 1st Appointment
BBdoodle replied to kristlynngirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My sister originally went in with the idea of getting banded but then received the information on all 3 WLS and wanted the best bang for her buck. I went in knowing I wanted the RNY because the percentage of weight loss is the highest with the RNY. I figured if I was going to do this I'm going for the RNY. I see so many people on this site that have been banded and went for the revision to RNY. You need go with what is best for YOU. -
Back where I started and 3 weeks away from RnY bypass
Diane Moro Abramowitz replied to Rachel412's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I did not have a good experience with the Realize band.....I just had revision surgery, he took out the band and did the gastric bypass....I told my doc that if he did not do the revision i might not come back for the bypass....so he did it all in one four hour surgery! -
They are just people. Don't be afraid of them. If you have all your documention and have met their criteria it does not matter what is going on personally in your life. Just state the facts. Now, because I don't know the specifics, if you are trying to get them to do a revision without meeting the policy procedures, I recommend you have some research stating how this would be a good thing to your health. If they paid for the band, they should pay to convert. In my case, I had to show effort (lap band fill history), complications (egd report) and then I had to fight for a DS over an RNY. But there are 10-15 year studies out there about how the DS is better than the RNY... so I just printed them out and sent it in. First and formost remember they are people. No better than you. Don't let them intimidate you. It is your health and they are your health insurance carrier... so they are going to pay for it one way or another. I was sure to point out how much they were spending on doctors visits, meds, surgeries, er visits etc... cost to benefit ratio there. They put in X amount of dollars now to avoid XX amount of dollars later. Good luck!

MGB or RNY? Can't decide
Tralynn222 replied to Loriey's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I don't think you'll be disappointed with your decision. I had the revision from the Band to MGB in Dec of last year and couldn't be happier. I had the band for 12 years and never lost any weight. Now, since having the MGB I've lost 83 lbs in 7 months. I always hated how the band felt when I ate, now I just feel full. It's not painful or aggravating like that band was. Good Luck to you! -
Gastric Sleeve After Lapband
DanityChai replied to ChaChaBurch's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats on the revision. I get mine in a little under two months. How are you feeling? -
There's a couple of new bariatric techniques you might consider? Placation is one and the other is a new technique where they perform a faux sleeve endoscopy. No stomach removal and no invasive surgery. But that one may still be in the exploration stage? I agree with bulawookie, check out another surgeon or two. Can't hurt. And if some new non surgical technique shows up in 3-5 years you can still revise? tmf

Hello every one! It all stated back in 2005 with my wife getting her band placed. Seeing the results it was good on the beginning. So then I had mine placed a year later. Lost close to 30 lbs. the body fat has slowly dropped to 33% diabetes and hypertension and high cholesteral never ever went a way. Constant nausea vomiting getting stuck and not being able to eat some day. My wife had here revision done in April 2013 losing 95 pounds so proud of her. Now it's my turn. Im 5'6" 206 pounds 33.9% bf . Diabetes, severe sleep apnea, hypertension, and high cholesterol. I was approved the first attempt. I was taken off guard. It has became real. My biggest fear is passing away on the table. Scared. Good luck to every one on their Journey.
