    ...just got real!

Update! Seems like liquids are finally going down with less of an issue. The hernia repair must be healing. I'm not going to get my hopes up though. I'm not going to consider myself healed until about week 6. I didn't weigh this weekend because I was trying to hold out until I completed my last day on full liquids which is today. I'll post a weight update tomorrow. Seeing 263.6 would be amazing because I was 283.6 morning of surgery on 2/1. Wishful thinking though...we'll see. I've noticed when I've been walking my knees don't bother me, my feet don't hurt, my legs aren't tired....and it's not that it's been a while since I was at my current weight. It hasn't actually. The difference is that I was in the gym everyday hurting myself just to keep my weight here. I would come home every night after working out sore and tired and dragging and just not feeling great at all. I am so excited to know that when I start exercising again (tomorrow) I can do it gradually and easy at first. Speaking of, I really need to make a workout plan - I'll do that tonight before bed. Anyways - NSV's so far: *My face is clearly smaller. *My tight size 16 pants fit easily. *My legs are slimming down. *Compliments. Compliments everywhere I go. Way more than usual. *I can actually get away when my husband chases me around the house now! Cheers!
  2. oh heck ya! I live in the Sunshine state and its been in the 90s in the afternoons. It has dipped into the 50s-60s and I don't like to be cold so I kept a couple of hoodies. I also found a Danskin zip-up lightweight jacket that was on the clearance racket about two months ago. I thought it wouldn't fit size (12-14) had a big NSV when it not only fit, but ZIPPED over the girls with plenty of room! I strut around in it like its a PINK LADIES jacket from Grease!

    Almost 70

I am so sorry to hear that you are having such a horrible stall. But I congratulate you on your positive outlook. It is so true that if weight loss is this hard WITH the sleeve I can't imagine what it would be like without it! No wonder I was never successful before. I can't imagine what you're going through. I was about to pull my hair out after a 3 week stall. They are so frustrating. To break mine I changed up what I was doing. I stuck to my Proteins and Water and changed the type of exercise I was doing. The weekend before my stall broke (I weigh in on mondays) I visited some friends and I had a "carb" day... meaning that I focused on proteins but I didn't worry about the ice cream scoop I had or the cookie I had. I needed the break mentally. My sleeve let me be normal without worrying about going crazy. The next day I was down 4. I definitely don't go carb crazy to lose the weight, it normally wouldn't work. It could've just been the mental sigh of relief over the weekend that caused it, I really don't know. No matter what, stalls are tough. Focus on all of those wonderful NSV's and your muscle tone and your body and relax knowing that your sleeve will take care of you. Also, your scale stinks lol! Leave it alone for awhile. ((hugs)) good luck!

    April Exercise Challenge

Very nice Stef!! Looks like alot of fun at both. As for me, last night was upper body. Let me just say, I've always lifted, but I honestly feel as if I am getting to be stronger than ever before and working harder than ever before. The weights I'm throwing around, while nowhere near what a true powerlifter does, is so much more compared to my current weight than ever in the past. Ok, done tooting my own horn. This morning was 60 minutes on the elliptical. Have to work this weekend, so cardio will be trimmed down. Might be able to get out on the bike this weekend after work, but not holding my breath.:frown: Back to tooting my own horn, couple of nsv's to share. Tried on my shorts from last summer that were getting a little tight. Waaaay to baggie now. If I put a belt on, the shorts bunch up on the side and look awful. No way I can wear them again. 2nd one, the other day at home while changing, I noticed I have oblique muscles now. Where did those come from? Still got the love handles, but much smaller and the muscle is starting to show through.:w00t: I'll never have a 6 pack, but I'll take what I can get. Last one, yesterday I was walking through our dept when our training Lt that had been away at an FBI class for close to 3 mos mentioned I had lost enough weight to finally need new uni's. I looked him in the eye and said,"Yeah, again". I got new uni's at the end of last year around late Dec. Now, those are getting baggy. Been a great week for the esteem.
  5. Congrats on your NSV!!!!!!!!!!!! I know how you feel. I found an old XL size T-Shirt in my closet and put it on just for fun AND IT FIT!!!!!!!! Here I was thinking I was still a 2XL kinda guy. Now I have to rethink my whole wardrobe.

Boy do I get this NSV. To not have to worry about fitting into the gowns, or a robe at the spa... I was always so mortified to be reminded of just how fat I was...

    Slow Losers Unite!

Hi Anne, You have done so many good things for yourself and are losing more than enough weight. Give yourself a break. You're doing great! As for your clueless friend... You teach people how to treat you. Teach her you won't allow people to speak to you that way. I have had this same issue with my mother. She thinks negative comments will motivate me. Now every time she says something stupid I call her on it. She doesn't even realize she's doing it half the time. Ugh! Brag about your victories. You have a lot to be proud of! In public is the worst. I was out to luch with the family once and spent half the time spitting my drool and slime into a toilet  To some degree, though not as bad as you mention, it should take a while for things like tuna or well chewed chicken to go down. The guide my Dr told me is take small bites, chew really well, eat about 1 cup of food, don't eat for longer that 20 min. and it should take about 3 hours until you are hungry again. With more solid foods I take a few bites and then have to wait for a small burp before I can eat more. I can tell I'm full when I start to get discomfort and often I will hickup or my nose runs. Weird, huh? My NSV: I made it to water aerobics this morning! This is a big personal victory and I'm proud of myself.

    Who is in March?

yours may be different but mine consisted of questions & answers and celebrating member victories scale & NSV's
  9. Holy cow jenlyn you have lost almost 30 pounds in a about a week?!? I didn't think that was even possible! Wow I'm def a slow loser then, I'm down 8 as of today from surgery weight. Jenlyn I'll add you to the group. Your surgery was the same day as mine. 27lbs already!!? Man I wish NSV - Slipped a shirt on I wouldn't wear a few weeks ago because it was tight. Fits lovely now :)
  10. Thought the approach may have been harsh, I think June was right on point with her advice to Tamz. As someone who is almost 6 months out, I can tell you it gets better. The first week was pure hell. The first month hell. And you know everyday it gets better. At almost 6 months out and 70 pounds gone. I'm happy I did the sleeve. I am even a happy slow loser. I think the only people giving you advice should be those who are AT LEAST 3 months out. 6 months if you wanna know about real remose. The first few weeks are NOT always nice, but you can have a really crappy early sleever talk you out of the best choice you can make for your life. Then in 4 months when Tamz posting NSVs and buying sizes in the misses section, you'll be wondering why the heck you listened to a new sleever. In my opinion.

    November sleevers here

NSV I want to share - I went out for brunch with friends on Sunday morning and I ordered a healthy little side dish even though I realllllly wanted a big ass omelette. But I made a commitment to stop eating out as much and to only order something really small if I have to eat out. I'm really proud of the choices I've been making lately!

    February 2006 bandsters unite!!

For those of you fearing your first fill, I was with you!! I had myself all worked up. And I sorta have a horror story. But it's so minor compared to what I expected... it's really not worth mentioning, lol. The entire thing was really anti-climatic. There's a small pinch & a burn with the numbing shot -- felt like the heparin shot after surgery, only it hurt less, imho. I didn't feel ANY pain with the fill needle... just pressure. Both times, lol: My doc started with 1.5cc, but I couldn't swallow the water. I now know what overfull feels like -- at least a little. I could still swallow spit, so I wasn't THAT bad... but water kind of gurgled going down, and took forever to swallow a TINY sip. After 3 attempts, Dr Sewell looked at my face & asked, "You're too full, aren't you?! Let's get some out of there!" He popped me back onto the table & took out .3cc. Made a HUGE difference. And I was still numb from the first one, so I didn't need a new shot... and still didn't feel the fill needle. I was super-duper paranoid after that, lol, so I kept myself on tiny sips all day... until I got too hungry & had mushies (**blush for my lack of willpower! **). I did just fine, as long as I chewed everything to death. I'm definitely feeling restriction. Time to learn what I can & can't do again! I'm just so glad to be moving! My bags have been packed for a month now, time to get the journey started! Lou: Go you with the weight loss!! And congrats on the fill date! Becky: Happy bandiversary!! Looking back now, isn't it amazing how far you've come! I don't mean weight loss, though you're doing great on that... but pain-wise. You're sleeping in a bed!!! And congrats on upping the treadmill, I'm scared of grades! Tammy: Woohooo!! It's fill time! I'm glad to hear that folks are monitoring your niece. I hope she can kick her demons in the bootie! Oh my goodness, congrats on your NSV! And you got extra exercise too! Awesome!! Stacey: Wow! You're 3rd fill? What size is your band? Hope you feel restriction soon!!! Magic: Welcome to the Febsters! You've got a lost of reading to do, lol. Just joking... jump right in, we're glad you're here! Dena: You still out there? Missing you, girl! Oh, just reread... I bet you're in San Fran. Enjoy yourself! Cashley & Renebean: Front & center! Looks like you both had fills yesterday... how'd they go?

    February 2006 bandsters unite!!

I'm giving up keeping up with everything, at least for today. Welcome to all the new members! I think I even saw a male type!! Woohoo! I just updated the front page based on recent posts and/or your signatures. I added a chart at the bottom for our average pounds lost per week. If you get the chance, please check that I have your current values. If I don't, feel free to post them or send me a PM. Thanks! Love ya'll! Sorry I've been MIA... I've been mostly avoiding LBT. The flame wars made it a not happy place for me. I'm trying to decrease my BP, lol, not raise it! Mikey & I got fills on Tuesday. We're finally feeling them, at least a bit. We've definitely slowed down. I seem to HAVE to wait 45-60 seconds between bites now, or pay the price. Everyone sounds like they're getting some restriction! How are those fills doing? Anyone contemplating an unfill? Hope you're all controlling the speed & not PBing! Oh, and congrats to our first time fill folks!! Glad you overcame your fears & did it! That's an NSV right there!! Everyone have a lovely weekend! (( Hugs!! ))

NSV - Shopping at a Regular Store

Congratulations on your NSV! I just reached a point where I can buy clothes in stores with a plus size dept and it's exciting! I've been reduced to buying online and accepting whatever could fit for so long, that it's now so much fun to go to Lane Byrant or Nordstroms and walk in and get to choose things that look good on me or make me feel good! I also just made it to zulily sizes 22/24 so now I have a new favorite online store. such a big change from the 32/34 I was wearing in July!

That tunafish could taste so unbelievably good and that I could get full on half a cup of it!!!!!!!!! I broke the rules by 12 hours and had my first food (mushy) tonight. My tastebuds were dancing!!!!!!!!!!! You would have thought I was eating steak! I did take my time and ate as slowly as I could for being famished LOL. I chewed chewed and chewed until it was completely pulverized, and then I would wait periodically to see how I felt before proceeding. I stopped at about a half a cup and I probably could have had more but I didn't want to push it especially my first meal. Tomorrow morning before we go on our charity ride I will have an egg, two if I can get it down. Again, I don't want to push it, especially right before going on a ride. I also had an NSV! We went by Open Road Leathers to look for some new chaps for me as my old ones (the ones I bought in November!) were getting way loose on me, especially around the legs. Now, you have to know that they don't size chaps like regular clothes. Don't know why but they run WAY small. So the chaps I got in November were 6X (ugh) despite the fact that I was actually 2X at the time. Well, today I got into 4X chaps!!! Two whole sizes! I purposely got them nice and tight so that I would be able to wear them for a while before having to get another pair when I lose more weight. I normally wouldn't even bother getting something like this until I have lost all my weight but I wear my chaps even during the summer as it keeps the engine heat from burning my legs. Oh! I took off the steri strips on the three small incisions today. They were starting to come off anyway and they were annoying me. One of them probably wasn't quite ready to come off but I just put Neosporin on it and covered it with a bandaid. It will be fine in a couple of days. The other two, my port and the big blob of cotton in my belly button are under waterproof tape and okay like they are. Dr. Cywes wanted them to stay on for two weeks. I'll see what those look like then. I did a lot of running around today, brushed down the pool, washed my motorcycle, did a load of laundry, emptied the dishwasher, pulled some weeds and stuff. So I am definitely feeling back to my normal self with the exception of some isolated and periodic soreness in the muscles where my port is. I'm very excited about eating real food again. I can't even begin to explain! I feel like my journey has really begun today. I am starting to eat like a bandster and lead the bandster way of life!

    ABC ~ October Chat

Hey Spunky! First I want to stop and say Yay! on the 25lbs. Celebrate every single one that goes. I'm a slow loser too and and getting my first fill on Oct 19. Maybe things will pick up. Good question about how long it took you to feel your first feel and one you should take up with doc's office. Let them know your concerns about getting the second fill and ask if it is needed at this time. From what I hear, the only time you need fills is if there is no restriction and you can eat more and more. Smaller clothes qualify as an NSV -- Non scale Victory. These are what keep us from going crazy watching the scale. Another thing to celebrate!! :cheer2: Two more things young lady -- When did 58 get old? Haven't you heard that old is anyone 15 years older than you are? About that ticker -- you can do it. There are very clear instructions on the ticker in the forum on FAQs and Resources (?) [can't remember the exact name, but FAQ is what to look for] . Follow them step by step and just remember you have to paste in a new one every time the weight changes. Good luck! Jo Ann
  19. Agnes: Congrats on making this decision for yourself. I can say this has been the best thing I have done for myself. I do not regret it. Just realize, this is a tool that you must work with. It is a lifestyle not a deit. It is normal to get scared and to worry about this working or not. Just be prepared that you may have times of little or no weight lost as we all hit a pleateau. In fact, I just started moving down again after about a 6 month pleateau. The key is working with your doctors and getting fills (adjustments) every 6-8 weeks til you get restriction. It takes 3-4 fills for most people to get restriction. So be prepare for this to happen. Start now practicing portion control and not drinking with meals. You cannot drink anything with you meals. No drinking anything 30 -60 minutes prior to a meal. No drinking anything 30-60 minutes after a meal. liquids wash the food thur the band. Also remember to Celebrate NSV (non scale victories) such as dropping a clothes size. I had many of these nsv during my plateau. It helped keep me motivated. Remember to drink or sip you liquids slowly. I drink mainly Water or diet green tea. It is best to find some zero calorie drinks and save you calories for you food. Tho' I have my cup of coffee each morning. You will need to trial and error to see what you can and cannot eat. I have a list of no-no foods my doctor gave me, which I have avoided. Some of the foods on my list, others can eat without a problem. Just like we all are different people, we all react differently to the band. Our bodies tolerate different foods. So don't be surprised you cannot eat the same things as others do. I think you have done a good job educating your self about the band and I believe it is key to being successful. The chatroom here is a great source for support. There are groups on here and yahoo that may help you too. The forum provides good data as well. Just know this is your journey and it will be as unique and special as you are. Listen to your doctor and follow his guidelines & instructions. Find you a fill doctor here in the states and make sure to work with them to get your fills in a timely matter. Good luck and much success on your journey. July will be here before you know it. You can and will make it. Positive thinking, a great atitude, and working with your band equals great success. I hoipe this post helps you!

    February Surgeries

Thank you ClaireC. I have been practicing my post op behaviors now so when it's real it will be second nature. I am quite ready to be thin and healthy again. Next week I have a follow appointment with the NP and dietitian. Just by being mindful of my eating, according to my him scale I have lost 10# since my first appointment sept 23. I have many post op nsv's on my bucket list. Thanks for the encouraging words. Hope to talk again :-D Bear

    my biggest nsv

That is a great NSV! These are better than looking at the scale and wo.dering if it will move today or not.
  23. One of the things that really pushed me to have surgery was the embarrassment that I felt last summer not being able to ride rides at the amusement park and having to get off of rides because I didn't fit. This all happened in front of friends of ours too. We are on our way home from the amusement park now and I fit on every ride! Even the kiddie roller coaster that I have never been able to fit on! So excited it feels so good!
