December Bandsters!! How Ya Feeling??
cutecamille replied to loretta\ Baconton Georgia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded december 22. I lost 1 pound pre-op and 14lbs post op. I was not put on a pre-op diet and tried to do it on my own...and lost the one pound. My first pre-op appointment is January 4. But anyways, I am on week two creamy liquids. I'm making it, but its been hard to do the 48 oz of water everyday. The pain is gone. Mylanta gas chews are the bomb! I was so glad to sip my tomato soup and eat sugar free pudding! I mix my protein mix with kefir and I will be so glad when I can have regular protein. When I saw John Stamos on the greek yogurt commercial I wanted greek yogurt. Since we cannot have fruit yogurt, I've been tolerating vanilla flavored greek yogurt. Tastes like sour cream. None of this takes the place of waffle fries or chicken minis...lol and I came to my mom's house and she made a brown sugar pecan cake and a yellow cake with cream cheese icing with pecans. Then my brother and my son just came home with Micky D's for everyone (my treat, but none for me). I'm staying in the room sipping my water. I'm excited about getting to the next levels and back to a new normal. I know that I will have to eat healthier but that's ok. I'm ready to EAT and not sip everything! But I love my band. -
What To Eat First Week After Surgery?
Willow216 replied to Willow216's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought your name sounded familiar and I think I seen you on you-tube I am going to check after this cause I'm pretty sure I have saved your video, I have alot of them, they have such great ideas and information. That ricotta/mozarella cheese bake sounds real good and I am going to keep that one in mind. I did buy a couple of cans of refried beans, I never had them before but I know I'm not going to want to do alot of preparation of foods the first couple of weeks so the easiest is what I am going for. I also have a ton of greek yogurt now and I love them, only thing that after a few days I'm not going to want to look at them..LOL Are you doing anymore videos updates, I would love to see how you are doing!! Grateful as always.. -
Anyone for October 2020?
SabanFan replied to barbieater's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No soft food until week 4-5 - yikes. Did she/he provide any recommendations on how to get there other than siping on protein shakes all day? And by soft, can you have yogurt, cottage cheese, and oatmeal now? Adding another protein shake would add some calories and plenty of protein until you hit week 4 later this week. Even then, an egg is only about 6 gas of protein compared to the 20-30 in 11oz of protein shake. -

Hey girls! i am so sorry I havent been logging on as often lately.. I've been so distracted.. but first.. the guy I went on a date with was someone that I've known for a while.. we have history.. a couple months back he would ask me to spend time with him almost everyday for 2 months and I would say no because of my weight.. I guess i got happy that I've changed alot since the surgery and had the courage to spend time. It was a good time.. mostly talking alot! So as far as my diet I'm not sure if I'm doing it wrong but I even cut out pureed beans because that has a tons of carbs and while i was eating it my scale did not move. As soon as I stopped eating it I've dropped some more pounds. I only eat dannon greek yogurt called light and fit (if I'm saying it correctly ) only 80 calories each 6 carbs and 12 of protein.. i eat about 2 of those a day.. each i eat half as a meal .. and I also eat cottage cheese.. and water.. I havent done tea in a while but I should today. At night i juice some vegetables and drink it slowly. That's all I do.. and now i keep my portions under 3 oz. sometimes i read the group chat and I feel bad because I dont know if I'm feeding my body right.. but i've lost weight and I feel fine. Maybe in the afternoon a little low on energy and I take a nap around 3:30 til like 5:30 then I'm fine again. I'll continue reading the chat to catch up.... and by the way thank you girls on the compliment.. it feel like warm hugs lol [emoji7][emoji178] -

Your plan is much clearer than mine. To be honest I have been taking the puréed to mean chew very well before swallowing. I just can't imagine blending my meat. I have been eating veggies most of last week though they weren't on my plan till this week. I only eat a few bites anyway because like you said there is only so much room in our stomachs. I am able to eat at the most 3-3.5 oz total depending on what I am eating. If it is yogurt or cottage cheese I can eat close to 4 oz, but if it is chicken or ground turkey only 2-3oz. Cereals are added on my plan this week ,but I do not know if i will eat any of them. I have never been much of a cereal eater anyway. Here is what my week 4 looks like -

Given that we had the surgery on the same day.. does it hurt your stomach or put pressure on your stable line when u eat chicken and veggies? I thought i messed up when i had a little bit of mash potatoes.. i put sour cream on it to make it softer.. i was on a date and my date doesnt know about my surgery so i had to play it off.. of course i had to pack it to go and then gave it to him to take home. But i aas worried that mashed potatoes were too much.. plus another question.. earlier that day i actually finished a whole yogurt my stomach felt soo fulll i started getting scared that i stretched something... how do i know if my sleeve is still good? Im scared of the full feeling. -

I take a V-core Vantage, two scoops. With two scoops it has 300 calories, 18 carbs and 50 grams of protein. I mix it with water 16-18 oz or some times I put in 1/2 cup of low fat yogurt. It is the orange creamsicle and I like it. Some times I use the isopure grape with vanilla EAS protein too. I tried the strawberry ones from unjury, yuck! So I stick with what I like. So with that and what I eat, I think I am ding pretty good. Just need to get all my water in too! -

Eight weeks post-op, I can eat everything
RickM replied to Nelly S.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It doesn't seem to be particularly harmful - your body will tell you if it objects. My doc has us on mushies from the hospital, moving into more real foods as tolerated, but avoiding the simple carbs and empty calories (and his practice has been doing sleeves for around 20 years, so I figure they know about the care and feeding of this type of altered stomach - I still can't quite understand the extensive liquids that some docs impose upon their patients - maybe it's a holdover from RNY practice?) I tried some restaurant chicken parmesan and soft tacos from Chipotle (less the tortilla) at around the two week mark and they did fine. I was told to start adding veg at my 10 day follow up since I was getting in more than the requisite Protein at the time. I was making small southwest style salads with a couple ounces of leftover meat in them in the 3-4 week range and was adding some raspberry and almonds to my greek yogurt Snacks at around the same time. I haven't tossed anything back up yet, though a couple things didn't quite feel right at the time. Your doc seems to have a fairly sane program. I can't quite fathom the ultra low carb mania that some docs are on - it's a useful thing temporarily for some conditions, but long term seems to be substituting whatever bad nutritional habits we may have had pre-op with another one post -op. Still, it works for some, (and some have a lot more weight to lose than we do, so need to lose at a faster rate to lose enough during the prime losing phase) though long term they're likely to have problems from nutritional deficiencies if they continue to be obsessive about it.. I'm not having as much fruit and veg as I was having pre-op, but am usually getting in a couple of servings of them a day. That will increase in time as I get into maintenance mode. I try to keep a lid of 1200 calories on my daily intake, and am usually in the 1000-1100 range (though I will probably break thru that today - we're going to Outback for dinner tonight and I'm sitting at about 750 this afternoon. I was 2/3 to goal weight at around the 3 month mark, so that seems to be working for me. -
Anyone Experience Night Sweats After Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
sassycruiser replied to sassycruiser's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone for responding. The Protein shake thing is intriguing because last night I had greek yogurt before bed and no night sweats. The other day I drank 2 ounces of bolthouse Protein Drink (which is delicious) and then an hour later drank 2 ounces more. It was like I was drunk. Terrible feeling. Only think I could figure out was too much sugar at a time when I am having to readjust to digest. Also, I am sweating during the day. So, while I do think some of this is horomonal and might pass I am definitely going to watch on the Protein shakes and see if I can find a relationship. -
Slippage..convert to Bypass???
lisa_hawaii replied to lisakayinWA's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Lisa - Im hoping we can work together on this ebcause i just read your story and let me tell you a little about my story -- lap band 9/2005 02/06 - slip 03/06 - re band throught the past 5 years I have STRUGGLED and the ONLY time i lost weight was when the bad was so tight I barely could drink Water. One day I would be able to eat yogurt, the next day it would get stuck -- it was this way constantly and Id never know what i coul or couldnt eat unless i tried - so in teh end I have a band with 1/2 fill so i can eat normally but it defeats the purpose of even having TWO surgeries because here I am weighig in 10lbs les then my 1st surgery and 10 more then my second.... Just went to the Dr. yesterday and he suggested I look into the bypass revision. He made it sound really good but he also didnt leave out the fact that because it is a revision - the risks are automatically higher for compications. I sit here wondering if my body had this many compications with a simple band who will ti react to a bypass? Maybe I will do great with bypass and i will finally see results Ive been striving to see forever what is I am the 15% that thigs go drastically wrong My job now covers this revision - if I waitr health care might change ................................... I too dont know what to do! Complications? What kind of complications? Like is its "dumbing" more often.. k I can handle that.. If its leakge... that can cause death.. IDK I wish I could survey 100 ppl who had this themself! Help for us both What ever we decide , we r not alone! Lisa (yes im lisa as well) -
Any Long-Term (4-5 yrs+) Bandsters Out There
Carlene replied to fabfatgrl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm only 18 months post-op, but a woman in my real time support group was banded 6 years ago (FDA trials) and lost 210 pounds. She recently had a slip repair and got a new (VG) band. Now she is working her way up to the "sweet spot" again. She only gained 15 pounds during the time (6 months, I think) that she was unfilled. She still maintains that she will go to the grave with her band intact, as long as it's humanly possible. I have lost 97 pounds and am within 10 pounds of my goal weight. I weigh less than 130 and wear a size 4, certainly way better than 50% of excess weight lost. I understand your feelings about the band. There is a lot of drama involved - a lot of stuff that, in many ways, makes food even more of an issue than it was pre-band. I can't have a tiny kid's cup of yogurt at 4:30 or I won't be able to eat dinner. No steak for me at cook out time - no hot dogs, either. Everything is a trade-off...it all has its price. I'm good with my choice to keep the band, and keep it filled pretty tight. And I'm good with everyone else's choice, too. It's your body....only you can decide what do do with it. -
anyon'e post op diet look like this: Your first week Keep in mind that you now have a new stomach, much smaller than a few days ago, the volume needed to fill your stomach is now 2 oz. During the first week of the gastric band placement, you will be experiencing not only the adaptation to your new food habits, remember that you will also be recovering from a minimally invasive surgery, symptoms like mild pain and soreness are normal. The first and second week you will be in a liquid diet, using straw is recommended to avoid big gulps that may cause nausea or discomfort. During the fist week Clear liquids are recommended (water apple and grape juices, tree top, ocean spray and welch's are recommended) From fourth day on, natural fruit juices (strained and Gelatin can be added if well tolerated) The largest volume take that your stomach can accept is 2 fl. Oz. At a time, let it rest for 2 hours before serving this quantity again. Have all the clear Water that u can in between "meals". Miscalculations may lead to nausea. Room temperature during first week is the most recommended, slightly cold gelatin is acceptable. Take gelatin in small chunks and chew and dissolve. Take care of wounds: clean daily bath using only water and soap, scrubbing only in the same direction of it, cover with gauze or band aid. NEVER: keep on eating if you are already satisfied. Try to eat more that you stomach can handle. Your second and third week Keep in mind that you now have a new stomach, much smaller than a couple of weeks ago; the volume needed to fill your stomach is now 2 oz. It is time to include variety and a few more consistent foods to your diet: On your second week continue with clear liquids and gelatin and add:Whole natural fruit juice, use synthetic sugar to sweeten. Pear and apple pure Soups (broth):Potato Tomato Lentil Vegetable chicken [*]On your third week add: Chopped fruit (very small pieces) Whole Vegetable juices Whole Vegetable juices At this time you should be able to handle correctly your new stomach capacity. But always remember to let it rest for 2 hours before repeating the serving of more consistent food or the 2 oz. Measure, miscalculation may lead to nausea and stomachache. Food temperature: Fruit juices are well tolerated cold (no exaggeration) Warm soups. The care of your wounds: As a normal symptom of healing, itching will appear. NEVER: keep on eating if you are already satisfied. Try to eat more that you stomach can handle. Your fourth, fifth and sixth week Day 1 Breakfast 3 strawberries 2oz. of yogurt Morning snack Chopped peach Tea lunch Canned tuna (half a can) 1-2 cup of pea Soup Afternoon snack ½ cup of lentil soup ½ a cup of chopped fruit dinner ½ cup cheerios ½ cup milk Last day snack Vegetable soup Day 2 breakfast canned tuna (1/3 of can) crackers (ritz-oatmeal) morning snack 4-6 baby carrots lunch 1/2 cup of lentil soup slice of cheese afternoon snack 2 oz. of blended chicken breast 2 spoons of corn dinner 1/2 cup of chopped fruit top with granola last day snack vegetable soup Day 3 Breakfast ½ cup milk ½ cup of grape fruits or raisin bran Crackers Morning snack ½ cup of lentil soup Crackers Lunch ½ cup of chicken soup ½ cup of blended chicken Crackers Afternoon snack 3 - 4 crackers Canned tuna Dinner ½ a cup of chopped fruit 1 spoon of yogurt Last day snack Carrots day 4 breakfast strained pineapple juice 2 oz. of chopped chicken crackers morning snack canned tuna (half a can) crackers (ritz-oatmeal) lunch 1/2 cup of peas 1/2 cup of chopped fruit afternoon snack vegetable soup dinner 2 oz. of chopped chicken breast Day 5 Breakfast ½ cup of chopped fruit Morning snack ½ cup of yogurt 1 or 2 oatmeal crackers spread some jelly if desire Lunch Canned tuna (half a can) Sliced tomato pieces Crackers Afternoon snack Chicken soup (Campbell's) Crackers (ritz / oatmeal) Dinner Dinner 2oz. of grilled chicken breast mushroom cream Last day snack Chopped fruit Gelatin day 6 breakfast 1/2 cup of grape nuts with milk morning snack 1/2 cup of chicken fajitas mixed with onion and veggies. and vegetabe soup. lunch sliced tomato and cheese piecees. crackers Dinner 3 strawberries 2 oz. of yogurt Day 7 Breakfast ½ cup chopped fruit 1 spoon of granola top with honey Morning snack Tuna and vegetables with crackers Lunch Grilled chicken breast split, pea soup (or choose vegetable) Afternoon snack Gelatin crackers Dinner Vegetable soup white rice Last day snack Broccoli cream Remember: Chew, Chew, Chew! Cold coffee is OK Use low fat / low calorie yogurt and milk Carbonated drinks are not recommended Bread, tortilla and banana are nor yet recommended Never try to eat more than your stomach can handle Keep in touch with your surgeon and nutritionist: Every 15 days for 3 months Every month for the next 3 months Every 3 months for the next 3 years NEVER: keep on eating if you are already satisfied. Try to eat more that you stomach can handle.

Ideas from a fellow Ice cream addict: 1)ADD FRUIT: What i used to do was to add fruit to the ice cream... strawberries or other berries, bananas, etc. That gives you bulk so that you can't fit that much in your pouch. I found that with fruit, I'd be totally stuffed if I had a kiddie sized cup. 2)DON'T HAVE IT IN THE HOUSE: Make yourself go out for it...and when you do, vow to only order the small or kiddie size. AS an added incentive, give yourself some other goal to achieve before you can treat yourself... like xyz minutes of cardio or weights, must have drunk xyz oz of Water, etc. 3)BUY INDIVIDUAL PORTIONS: My biggest problem was the never-ending pint. I'd eat the whole pint. But if I bought some form of ice cream bar or novelty, there was more acknowledgment of what a healthful/normal serving was. I knew I was on my second or third serving when I went back to the fridge...whereas with the pint, before I knew it, my spoon was scraping the bottom. 4)EAT IT CONSCIOUSLY: No Tv, no radio, no distractions. Try using a baby spoon (can buy a gazillion plastic ones for like $2). Savor it. You may find that you don't even like it (really!)... or that you prefer different flavors, lower fat versions, whatever. gaiam.com has a conscious eating set with meditations and cards... might be helpful 4)TRY LOW-FAT: Haagen-Dazs, Edy's/Dreyer's Slow-Churned Low-Fat versions, Ben & Jerry's Frozen Yogurt/Low Fat (Body & Soul?)... all are really yummy. If you combine them with fruit, it's actually a pretty healthful treat. You could have a 1/2 cup of low-fat ice cream/yogurt with 1/2 cup of berries and you'd be out about 160 calories or so.

Janey I never liked yogurt either - the texture made me gag (the same problem with pudding) and the gross aftertaste - yuk! Since I am determined to eat healthy food and I know yogurt is good for me, I made a serious effort to like it. I found that Yoplait custard style in almost any flavor is really, really good with no aftertaste. I find myself eating one at least four times a week for a nice snack and I really like it.

I don't think its bad necessarily for you to be below 1000 caories for a few days -- but IMHO its all of the yo-yo dieting we've done over the years that has messed up our metabolisms -- so a low calorie plan for a few days or weeks might trigger gain once you start eating more calories. And of course if you cut out carbs, once you have them you could regain some, but with that said, instead of a liquid diet - have you tried the plateau busting diet? I am sure you have seen it: (I have it saved but haven't tried it yet!) Dr. Fox' weight loss plateau/stall diet. Heard of it?
