    Trouble sleeping...

Hello everyone, I got sleeved on 8/5. Exactly 3 weeks ago. I have recovered so quickly, it is almost ridiculous. I was only really miserable right after waking up from my surgery and the few hours afterwards. I stayed in hospital for 2 days where I was on anti-nausea medication and painkillers. As soon I got home I was able to switch to regular solid food (which I chew really well) . I love the sensation of getting full and leaving food on my plate. This had never happened before in my entire life! It is so empowering and liberating... But I can't sleep at night despite keeping active during the day. I have sleep apnea so I continue to use my beloved CPAP machine but I still can't sleep--I go for long walks or cycle in the afternoons. I go to bed around 9:30 PM or 10:00 PM but I am up until 3 AM or sometimes 4 AM, tossing and turning. My insomnia also leads to late night eating. I have eaten nuts and yogurt, feeling very guilty. As a result my weight loss has slowed down. I have only lost 10 lb in the 3 weeks since my surgery (I'm 5.8" and weighed 258.5 on day of surgery. BMI 38). I'd love to hear your thoughts! Much thanks!

    Can't sleep anymore..

Hello everyone, I got sleeved on 8/5. Exactly 3 weeks ago. I have recovered so quickly, it is almost ridiculous. I have been able to eat everything. I switched to regular solid food (which I chew really well) within 4 days after surgery. I love the sensation of getting full and leaving food on my plate. This had never happened before in my entire life! It is so empowering and liberating... But I can't sleep at night despite keeping active during the day--I go for long walks or cycle in the afternoons. I go to bed around 9:30 PM or 10:00 PM but I am up until 3-4 AM, tossing and turning. I have only lost 10 lb in the 3 weeks since my surgery (I'm 5.8" and weighed 258.5 on day of surgery. BMI 38). I'd love to know if any of you have been able to successfully tackle insomnia? Much thanks!
  3. But I am having 2 major issues, number one is that soup and pureed baby foods, like pureed bananas and peach do not make me full. Few nights ago I had 14 oz of lentil Soup and was still hungry. I had another 6 oz afterwards. So total of 20 oz of soup! I had an appointment with my surgeon 2 days ago. My surgeon said being able to eat 14 or 20 oz of soup was most unusual and that I should stick to solid Proteins instead as they DO infact make me feel really full. She also advised me to have my Protein shake late at night. My second issue is insomnia (despite keeping active during the day--I go for long walks or cycle in the afternoons). My insomnia leads to late night eating. I have eaten nuts and yogurt, feeling very guilty. As a result my weight loss has slowed down. I have only lost 10 lb in the 3 weeks since my surgery (I'm 5.8" and weighed 258.5 on day of surgery. BMI 38). My surgeon said that my weight loss was on target and there was nothing to worry about. She advised me to eat 4 smaller meals to make room for my late night cravings. But she did advise me to seek help for my sleep issues with my primary care physician. I'd love to know if any of you have the same issue or have been able to successfully tackle them? Much thanks!

    Got my date and time...but

@@Donna415 Congratulations! Clear liquids - Homemade chicken broth, SF Jello, SF Popsicles, crystal light, Water. They also had me mix 1/2 apple juice with 1/2 water for that first week. Full Liquids - all of the above, creamed strained Soups, Protein shakes, Greek yogurt, cream of wheat made very thin pureed - I had a tough time with this stage. I could not tolerate and still cannot eggs, I had a hard time with pureed chicken and turkey and I am alergic to legumes/beans. So I lived on cottage cheese, Greek yogurt and all of the stuff from above. I also had very soft cooked veggies like carrots that I would mash up with a fork. I was also allowed sweet potato and had it once.

    Fall from grace :(

I had enough of the Protein Shakes too and so I started making my own smoothies. Greek yogurt, frozen fruit, little Water and ice and one scoop GENEPRO. 45 grams of protein and tastes pretty good. Best of luck to you! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. My surgeon won't even do lap bands anymore due to high failure rates. I am almost two weeks out and have followed my NUT instructions to a T. I have only had minimal early dumping twice, both times when I ate my yogurt too fast. Good luck Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Hi there, I got sleeved in Manhattan on 8/5 by Dr. Linda Zhang at Mount Sinai (really love my surgeon--she's super!). Exactly 3 weeks ago. I recovered so quickly. Been able to eat everything, love the sensation of getting full and leaving food in my plate. This had never happened before in my entire life. I have 2 major issues. Number one is insomnia which leads to eating late at night. I have eaten nuts and yogurt, feeling very guilty. As a result my weight loss has slowed down. 11. So I started on "soft/mushie" last Sunday. After botching a couple of meals in my magic bullet, I'm finding it much easier to just cut up (if needbe) what Protein I'm going to eat. I just cut it teeny tiny and puree it in my mouth, chewing until its watery. I don't sit there and count, but I know when I've chewed enough. Anyone else not really use their food processor? And things like eggs, yogurt, refried Beans, hummus - there is nothing to puree. Again, just make it mushy in my mouth. I'm really surprised how easily I am eating and drinking. I have wasted a lot of money of useless items.
  12. I am so hella sick of protein shakes. Having to force myself to drink them to get my protein, as the powder makes pre-made pudding and yogurt taste funny. Won't get cleared for puree/soft until Wed afternoon. I'll get through this, but last night I seriously wanted to suck the salt off of a cracker my hubby was eating. LOL. Chew and spit makes more sense in my head now. LOL

How about making some bone broth, adding some nutritional yeast to increase the protein, then drinking it either hot or cold?? Might be a nice savory change.

I used to drink the Unjury chicken broth a lot as well. It was a nice change from all the sweet protein drinks. I still drink it once in awhile.

The Unjury soup was ok, but not great, and I ran out of my samples. We're working with different methods of getting protein powder in broth or boullion, that's better but it's tricky with the powder. I picked up some premier protein, it's better. I'll get through it. :)

Having to lose 14-20lbs before surgery

I was having yogurt and fruit for Breakfast until my body decided it had enough yogurt and I couldn't gag down even a bite. I prefer food but I haven't had any ambition to make anything to bring to work with me so I grab a protein shake (Premier Protein - 30 gms protein/160 calories) to have in the morning. I ran out so today I brought no sugar added carnation breakfast which is pretty good (not as many gms of protein though). I eat protein/veggies for lunch and dinner.

    Yogurt

As for yogurt, I like the one the poster mentioned, I get the fat free plain, it is loaded with protein and low on calories and carbs. To me it taste like sour cream, maybe I haven't had food in a while lol! You can added sugar free flavorings, like you use for coffee, also adding powders is good if you let it sit for a day first. I like a white chocolate peanut butter made by Allwhey. You can put it on scrambled eggs with some hot sauce. I like it on fat free refried beans, with a poached egg too. I know Krogers makes a yogurt called Carve Cravers (or cutters?) it is like 60 calories for serving and has some good flavored, white chocolate raspberry is my favorite. I love getting cans of diced tomatoes, krogers makes a salsa style, but Hunts fire roasted are good too. I doctor them up with spices (Cajun, Italian, garlic, black pepper) then cover fish or chicken breast and bake in the oven. The left over tomatoes I eat on top of low fat cottage cheese, cold the next day - taste like cold baked manicotti. I love it. I make a quiche I made a post about, the tomatoes are good on top of that, as well as the plain greek yogurt. Sometimes I just have 3 slices of 97% fat free smoked ham for a meal, low calories and 15 g protein. Bubblebee tuna makes some premixed packets, usually a dollar, you get 3.5oz and low calories and carbs and like 20g of protein, I like the hot chili tuna, again, local groceries are making their own brand. I also use the fat free yogurt to make tuna salad and chicken salad, with same spices as tomatoes above, just put in food processor for the backed breast chicken salad. I made a chicken and tofu sweet and sour soup and added plain protein powder to it, it was pretty awesome. I starting to eat kimchi and precooked shrimp, which for calories is the best protein source I have found.

    Question from a Non-cook

I am also married, and I don't cook. My husband is a professional chef. I eat mostly what he eats as far as Protein and veggies, just smaller quantities. I avoid carbs and sugar. I have my healthy Snacks (Protein Bars, cheese, nuts, granola, fruit). We eat together most every night, and at first, it was tough, but I chose this route and it doesn't bother me as much. We spent a lot of time on the road this summer for our son's travel baseball, so that was a lot of take out. We did fast food (Breakfast or sandwich, I ate the fillings without the bread). We went to restaurants (salads with a vinaigrette, grilled chicken or shrimp). Kept plenty of fruit and yogurt in the hotel room for snacks. Bottom line, my husband hasn't been inconveniencedo, and I'm down 50 pounds (surgery was 5/4/16). You can handle it all! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App

Having to lose 14-20lbs before surgery

I started my pre-op diet on August 1st. Before October 6th, I need to lose 10-15 lbs, but no more of I will be below 35 BMI. So... I've already lost 14 lbs! My NUT put me on the following diet and I've stuck to it. Breakfast: High Protein low car shake - Premier Snack: cheese stick, piece of fruit or low sugar greek yogurt. I could also choose 1/2 cup 2% cottage cheese with fruit, 1 oz. nuts or an egg. Lunch: 3-4 lean protein, 1-2 cups veggies Snack: Same options above Dinner: Same as lunch. Only eat whole grain carbs 2-3X a week. Drink a lot of Water. Once I gave up Diet Coke, the weight started falling off. For protein, I eat chicken, turkey burgers, fish, shrimp, tuna, eggs/egg beaters. I buy the pre-cooked chicken and steak fajita meet and put it on a green salad. Occasionally I do have nuts. There have been times when I've been hungry but it's really worked for me, so I keep doing it. I can't lose anymore weight so now that will be a challenge. I'll talk to my NUT but probably put a few carbs back into my diet. Good Luck!!
  21. I put GENEPRO into my decaf coffee. I know it mixes well in Soups. I have put Genepro in my hummus, yogurt. it mixes pretty well. I'm still in the soft stage food, but really need to keep my Protein in. Can you mix it into recipes that you cook? I know it says never to microwave. I had made these ricotta puffs in muffin tins and while I reheated one, After reheating i did mix maybe half a serving of genepro into the center. So far I'm not sure on the whole cooking with it. Would love to hear other ideas.

    Protein intake

Get some GENEPRO. You can mix it with anything. I mix it with my hummus, yogurt, cottage cheese, I even mixed it into the infamous Ricotta Bake. We need to be creative in the begging soft food stage. It is very hard getting Protein in. Thankfully I have no issues with shakes. But I find the timeframe very difficult getting in protein and fluids in a 12 hour awake day.

    Help please!

Look for yogurts with about 8 grams of sugar. Broth is wonderful. Spoonfuls of refried beans with tiny drops of taco sauce and FF sour cream filled a craving. The semi puréed homemade chili was a staple especially on Thanksgiving day. Each tiny bite of food was so good and satisfying. Cottage cheese, puréed. Homemade vegetable soup with no carbs. Puréed chicken with vegetables and FF broth. I still enjoy simple things. Best of luck.

    Help please!

I am just beginning here. I am looking at pre-measured portions. I don't want to stretch out my stomach. I need to stay away from things like sugar, fats, etc. Nutritionist says Greek Yogurt has more Protein than regular. I guess this is look for high Proteins with adding of some vegetables. Help me take this step to success.
