  1. I was just banded on 1/25/2008 so i am a little further out. I can say that shoulder pain for me started . . . and was really really bad one week out. It felt like I had pulled something. Even if I wasnt moving the pain could sometimes be terrible. It was always the worst after eating of if I had a lot of gas. It took about two weeks to get back to normal. Tylenol did not help it but hot baths (not submerging my stomach of course because of the healing incisions) and my husband's massage helped a lot. I read that it was normal to have a little shoulder pain after surgery, but I never knew it could go weeks out. I talked to the doctor and she said that it was normal to have some pain in the shoulder (usually left) but that if it continued I should be seen. I think we are all different in how much it affects us, but the shoulder pain in general is very common. Thank goodness I am feeling better now.
  2. I WAS BANDED ON 2/19/08 AND I HAD TO BE A CLEAR LIQUID 24 hours and full liquied 1 week now I can start with mushies. IT IS SO WIERD HOW ALL OF OUR DR'S HAVE DIFFERENT DIET RULES. WOW, SOME PEOPLE HAVE TO BE ON LIQUIDS FOR WEEKS!!! ANY HOW, I HAVE NOTICED IF I JUST GO A TAD OVER MY 2 OZ'S AT A TIME I WILL GET A PAIN IN MY SHOULDER. IS THIS LIKE A WARNING SIGN THAT WE WILL ALWAYS HAVE OR IS IT JUST POST OP??

    Hello

Hi there and welcome, we are glad to have you join us. In answer to your question, yes, what you are feeling is normal. In the first week or two immediately following surgery, you are not very hungry because of the swelling. However, once the swelling goes down, you definitely get hungrier. That is because the time right now is for healing, not losing. The band is designed to work with fills. Once you start getting your fills, you will find your hunger will start to dissipate and the weight will start coming off. Prior to getting your fills, it is not unusual to not lose any weight and even gain.
  4. I was home, mostly in bed, for two weeks. My fatigue lasted even once I was back at work for a month or so. I would come home from work and nap. The taste thing my nutritionist told me about--side effect of ketosis. Rapid weight loss puts you into ketosis... (Google it for all the chemistry) When you burn fat, most of the ketones are excreted through your urine, but others are exhaled when you breathe. It gives you bad breath, and leaves residue in your mouth that can give a bad taste. People often say "things taste different after surgery". Think about it as an incentive not to eat things you shouldn't. I definitely can tell when I'm losing weight--everything tastes yuck to me.
  5. Well, it is almost a week (3-6-15) after my surgery, and I am so tired all the time. I just want to sleep, but I know that is not good for me. I went on youtube and looked up one week post op gastric sleeve, and saw all these women in makeup, and hair done !!?? What is going on with that? I still look/feel like crap!!I know I need to start adding more Protein to my stuff too. Getting pretty sick of lemonade MIO. I did have some broth yesterday, which i got full right away. I am starting my second phase today, hopefully that might help, different textures and stuff. Another thing that is bothering me is HICCUPS and belching. I never had this problem before. and now those stupid hiccups actually hurt.... Another thing is that nothing sounds good....i put something against my mouth, and now my mouth has some weird aftertaste....Happen to any one??? Going to make me a Protein shake today, we shall see, oh yeah and that protein supplement Isopure, stinks. UGH UGH Ugh

  9. I went for my 1st follow up appt today, I was banded on the 18th. I thought i wouldnt get to have reg foods for 2 more weeks. My doctor told me stay on full liqs for a few more day, then I can start chicken and fish and veggie. HAPPY. He just said stay away from pizza and subs. I told him, right now baked chicken sound amazing. I have lost 25lbs, from my pre-op diet to now. another happy moment. I go back 1-5- 09 for my first fill. It went better than i thought today.

    Is depression normal?

Thank you for responding. I should share a bit more. I'm short. 5'6. I'm actually glad to be this tall. My mother was 4'11. But not so cool when you weigh 315. I suppose that I stopped caring before I was even close to that. My A1C was 10.7. I have no idea how long I've been diabetic. I am stuck at 280 right now but, after being on Invokana 300mg for almost two months now, my test on Wednesday had it down to 6.7 Not everything is doom and gloom. But it's so frustrating being hungry all the time. I'm doing pretty well at staying away from really fatty foods. I tried eating a few ribs 2 weeks after surgery but they made me so sick with heartburn. I deal with sweet tooth with canned lite or no sugar added cans of fruit. Other than 3 egg cheese omelettes occasssionaly, my fat intake is low. I just don't understand the long stall. I wish that I felt more motivated to walk. I'm should also mention that in real life I'm a major introvert. That makes things all the harder when it comes to exercising.
  12. i had my lap band surgery a week ago now and from time to time, the feeling I get on my side is like I walked too fast and I have that "stitch" feeling like I've walked fast for a while and you get that pain in your side...has anyone else felt this?
  13. Hi Joy, Sorry to hear about the difficulty you've had in the past. But your son is the best surprise that could have happened. I haven't had the surgery yet, I'm waiting to find out the results of endo, the polpys are actually in my stomach not my colon so I am hoping hear from someone with the same situation so I could get an idea if my surgery would need to be delayed. I would have the doctors measure your height again without your heels so they can document your correct height. From what've read on the message boards the 5 history is pretty important. The best advice I can give you is to call the insurance company and ask about their criteria and have them mail you a copy of it. If your height has been off by two inches all along then your bmi would be way off all along too. Your doctors would be the ones to determine if the c-section would affect the lap-band and how soon after you've had a baby you can have lap band. The process for me started almost two years ago. I went to a seminar and then decided to keep trying on my own for about a year then I finally made the decision that this was the right thing for me. From that point it took six months for approval because I had to do the supervised diet. The surgeon's office would not submit anything to the ins. company until all of the insurance criteria had been met. Once everything was together and submitted it took only week to be approved. My surgery date is next week but I hope it does not get delayed. My gut feeling is that it will go as planned. I really hope eveything goes well for you. The waiting process is tough but I've been over weight for most of my life so a little more waiting is not all bad.
  14. Hi, I wanted to tell that one of the teachers had polyps in her colon. She had them removed and she is doing great. It wasn't a big deal. The main thing was to have them removed before they tearned into something else. I have always been over weight ;but not always morbidly obesse. I'm going through True Results in Houston. There are four doctors with this company. I'm worried about the 5 year history. My BMI is forty althoug many people say I don't look it. Back in 03 my BMI was only thirty. It started to go up over the years. I had a baby on Valentines Day FEB 14th. 2007. I had a c-section so I hope that does not effect me. I was 205 pounds before the baby. The funny part is that I'm only 5'3 at 237 pounds. In the past I would tell people that I was 5'5. I think my doctors may have 5'5 on the records. My grandfather argued with me and told me that I was shorter than 5'5. I was short but didn't realize it because I always wore shoes with high heels. He measured my height with his tape measure and I was in shock. I cried! I cant' believe I weigh that much at 5'3. I do not have any co-morbities but I have struggled with weight all of my life. I have researched and read the book Lapband for Life three times. I'm ready to use this as a tool and start a new beginning. I'm currently sperated from my husband and it's still going downhill. I think it's for the best. Anyway I'm ready!!! The center True Results does everything for you. They will also do the 6 month supervised diet. Questions 1. Do you think that I have a good chance of being approved? 2. Do you have to be morbid obesse for all five years? 3. Do you think having the baby will affect me? I forgot to tell you that my beautiful son Dillon was a suprise. I was actually trying to loose weight with taking the b-12 shot and diet pills. They were putting something in the shot; some fertility stuff to help you loose inches. I got pregnant fast. I don't regret it I love my son very much! 4. How long did the process take? 5. Did they cover all of the expenses for your surgery? Let me know how things turn out with you Joy

Had my surgery wed the 7th. The muscle soreness and tenderness has gotten better but it is still a little difficult to get up after laying down and I still can't pickup anything from the ground. I'm sure it's a few weeks.

    Getting hang of it.

Hi, I'm 3 days out and I think I'm getting that burning, full feel too. Funny after eating 1/4 cup soup! I try and sip all day. Today, I think I made it to 750mls plus a shake and soup. Struggled and had to walk a lot to move it. I've found cordial helps, and deep breathing but gas is still hanging around :/
  18. I lost 10 pounds but its been 3 days that its not moving.. is this normal?? I am doing everything right I think.. Help
  19. How long is this going to last??? UGH! 7 months out. 89 down. Maybe I'm done. I've got 25-30 to go. Just really started exercising 2 weeks ago so maybe body has to recalabrate itself? Weight loss during pre-op diet

I'm on the liquid diet for 14 days. I am actually going 18 days. I had my mind set to start on a certain day before I got my surgery day, and my surgery day was 18 days from the day I wanted to start. I should have known better. But I'm in it now and there is no turning back. This is day 8 and I'm feeling better with the 14 pounds I've lost already. I'm shooting for 25. I'm not gellin' on the 2 weeks after surgery. A brother wants something solid.

Welt Near One of My Scars

You're on solids now, right? pizza may not be a "diet" choice but it's a "human" one. Unless you're allergic to it or for some reason your doc still has you on mushies, you'll be fine! The "welt" is probably just a coincidence or a bug bite; just keep an eye on it! (treat it as you would a bug bite, assuming your surgical incisions are healing well as they should be at almost 3 months! ) Don't feel guilty!
  22. At 4 weeks post-op, I came down with a bad flu bug for a week, I didn't eat from last Monday to Monday 2 days ago, (which puts me at 5 weeks post-op now) and when I started feeling better Monday afternoon I made and ate some tuna noodle casserole, thinking it would be easy on my belly to start eating again. Ever since I have felt like I'm completely starving again like when I first come home from the hospital when I got the sleeve done. So I've been doing some reading and I think I stopped my ketosis by eating those darn noodles. So now I'm trying to figure out how long does the average person stay in ketosis after the surgery, so I can see if I need to work on putting my body back in that that state or not. I know as I am right now, I feel like I'm starving about 2 hours after eating, and I can't continue on like this. All I want to do is EAT. I didn't even feel like this BEFORE the surgery!!

    getting enough protein

I'm a year out and still drink the protein drinks most days. I lost alot of hair about 6 months ago, and decided a small protein drink (usually half of the serving size Isopure) would be easy to get down and I wouldn't have to sweat it every day. I did start to develop a kidney stone, and heard that apple cider vinegar would help with that. I added some to apple juice for a week or so and it cleared up. Good luck, Sharon
