  2. You know I got some good advice once on this board when the same thing happened to me. I was told to just say, which I did, "I'm trying to lose weight and nothing appeals to me right now. (Smiling) I just want to go with this as long as I can." Everyone laughed and we moved on. Several weeks later, the same thing happened again. I just said "I like the results so I'm sticking with what works (Smiling)." It no longer became an issue and now is a source of admiration.

Lunch Out With All My Coworkers

Ask yourself, what was I embarrassed about? The surgery was your business and not theirs. Just wait, in a few weeks, you are going to have lost so much weight that your co workers will be wagging their tongues. I hope you let go of the embarrassment. It is a waste of your time. This is a time to rejoice and celebrate the new you! You will teaching them how to eat also... LOL. The surgery is a tool, now the mental part that is your thoughts belongs to you. We all have choices. You can chose to focus on others, or you can smile and show everyone how happy you are. This is the best thing that you have ever done for yourself and now is the time to focus on your body is changing and how others are looking at you in admiration. If your co workers aren't asking about your surgery it's probably because they don't know how are are very involved in their own stuff. CONGRATS!

Kidney Stone 1 month Post Op

Im 8 weeks post op and for almost 2 weeks ive been going thru kidney stones. I actually had a stent placed then surgery a week laterfinally got stone but stent back in to help with healing! I get about 90oz water a day but doc said all the calcium we have to take may add up!
  5. I was where you are not too long ago. I knew I needed to make a change but wasn't sure that the surgery was for me. However, in my case, I had two success stories within my family to help me make that decision. On one side of the family, a relative had gastric sleeve. On the other, the Roux-NY. Both are still doing great and they are three years and 7 years out, respectively. Part of the issue here is that the surgery IS scary and one wonders if it is necessary to put themselves in a situation where major complications could occur. The other part is we want to think that we are in control of our lives, and our eating habits. For me, I couldn't have lost weight without it. I know I would be struggling for the rest of my life as a morbidly obese person. Just didn't want to go there. I had no complications from my surgery (my hair did fall out and I have a bit more acid reflux than before the surgery) but some people do and it is highly advised that you research that part of it too so that you can be completely educated as to what can happen. I wish you the best of luck!

    Protein shakes and stomach ache

Hmmm I wonder if it really is my body jut adjusting. I had my endoscopy last week on top of starting the protein shakes so I think it was a combination. I had another protein shake for breakfast this morning and I only had a tiny feeling of nausea so I'm leaning more towards a reaction of the endoscopy and slightly towards adjusting to the protein.

Is This Long Of Stall Normal?

I noticed that my body has a rhythm..... I loose a significant amount of weight... stall, gain a pound or 2, then start losing again..... weird.....like it's not letting go easy... wickedness.....
  8. I am just now 6 months. I have been in the 18os for over 2 months now. I have been going up and down the same 3 lbs for atleast 5-6 weeks. Has anyone stalled this long? I think that I may be at a point that my body won't let go of anymore of my weight. I'm curious to know how long you guys have stalled?

Who Has Been To Mexico Recently For Fills?

I had one fill a year ago at Fill Centers USA and then they closed. I moved to Seattle 6 weeks ago and found a fill doctor. Last Tuesday, he couldn't find my port and suggested we try next Tuesday. I read about leaks and such and talked to him and asked him his liability to me and a leak. He's gonna try next week and if not, I'll get a refund, and go to my original doctor in Mexico for fill # 2.

A great feeling isn't it? I think I've been here about 3 weeks now. Since my goal was 195, I wondered what would happen when I got there. So far I have stayed within 2 pounds, but having that 200 above me keeps me motivated.

    Losing Weight To Quick?

I too have lost 58lb post band in 14 weeks, I lost 60lb on pre op diet weight loss slowed down slightly in the last 3 weeks. Just follow your plan and exercise.
  12. I'm taking famotodine but feel sometimes like the heartburn still wants to creep up a bit but it has been helpful. I started walking more this week and the first day I had like 3 loose stools. It wasn't a lot but I feel the walking increase REALLY helped me. Milk of magnesia made me go within the same day too 2 days before I increased my walking time. I am currently 11 days post-op. Question

jmosher, Everything depends on your insurance coverage. I have Humana federal employee PPO. I was 48 when I had the surgery and had no comorbidities like diabetes, high blood pressure or sleep apnea. However, my mother died from complications from diabetes, father died from congestive heart failure and I have severe joint problems. My upper back has a 60 degree kyphosis, I have a herniated and "slipped" discs in my low spine and my knees have osteoarthritis so bad--they need to be replaced. NOW for the fantastic news! The more weight I lost--the more my back and knees felt better If you told me when I had the surgery I could have this small amount of pain and not even rely on Tylenol everyday--I'd never have believed you. Before surgery, I was taking prescription strength Naproxin twice daily. I had to stop taking that a week before surgery and relied on Voltarin cream after surgery because I COULD NOT TAKE the Naproxin after surgery. Voltarin is a prescription topical cream that does the same thing Naproxin does without going through your stomach. Not inexpensive but worth every penny. I hope your insurance covers weight loss surgery and hope you find the relief I have found through mine. Blessings, Kathleen

    Preop weight loss

I had to lose 15lbs, she wants me to be at 280 for surgery. I essentially quit sugar cold turkey. After about 3 days I knew what foods I just couldn't stop eating in my house (I'd grab a handful of trail mix, all candy, cheetos etc) and asked my fiance to take it all to work. Now I was without sugar, and my nutritionist listed the veg I couldn't have (corn, potatoes, snap peas-essentially high carb veg, and no fruit). I lost all 15 Lbs within the first week without sugar. I ate meals that were small meat portions, and vegetables. If I was hungry I'd munch green vegetables, or even grab a pre made portion of protein from the fridge. I more or less learned how to stay out of the kitchen eventually after learning that opening cupboards wasn't going to make snack food magically appear. We don't have snacks at work at all, and my fiance would never let me eat sugar at home haha
  15. Yayyy 1 week down, feeling lighter and great already. Still on the liquid diet but starting to have tummy cramps here and there. I am not even drinking when the cramps occur, wondering if it's just excess gas or if I should be concerned since the pain is not to bad. Any advice??
  16. 1.5 a day is awesome! Do share your secrets if you can sustain this loss rate after 2 months. I starting hitting quite a few stalls in the last month. I am not certain, but I think it is because I hit my BMR boundary and need to push through it with some new exercise. I already eat low calories (between 700-900) and don't cheat, ever. Cheat may be too strong of a word, but I am trying to follow my NUT plan as much as possible.

    What is my Problem?

Wow thanks everyone for letting me know I'm not alone! And ElfiePoo, your quote just made a lightbulb go off in my head. Of course, that's it! Since my fill last week I've felt restriction...and even experienced some stuck episodes, so I've been avoiding foods I must chew and eating more carbs! DUH! That makes all the sense in the world! The more carbs we eat, the more we crave!! THANKS a million, now I know what to do!
  18. I totally agree with what everyone else said. Im 16 days out and its amazing how in just a week, food has a new place in my life. Def miss stuffing my face, but more excited about my future!
  19. i cried a week of mornings.....then i went to a support group and meet sleeved folks...1-2-3 years out...so happy and healthy, that was the turning point me. think we have all this way and nothing can prepare us for this no matter how hard we researchresearch...see a shrink....nothing!
  20. I am seriously exhausted, like almost all the time. I started taking huge doses of B Vitamins in addition to my bariatric vitamins in an effort to make myself a little more alert. Caffeine isn't helping very much either. I realize my body is working hard right now to convert my fat into energy. I get that it's hard work, and takes a toll. However, I am still sleeping 11-12 hours a night. It's hard to be active, and exercise when I feel like I'm dragging myself through the day. Add to that, I've hit a stall. I've been just about single-mindedly focusing on getting all my Protein in, and getting enough Fluid. Any advice, or encouragement would be appreciated. Has anyone been through this before?
  21. I'm a little over three weeks out of surgery and the incision at the port site is open just a little bit all the way to the left . Just wondering if anyone had trouble with this particular incision healing and what you did for it, also how long on avg it took to close. On the other hand, all of the other incisions look great. Plus I have lost about 21lbs including pre-op diet!!!!

    Does it just stop?

Nicki, you're way ahead of me, I just had surgery one week ago. However, I lost 90 pounds since March preparing for my surgery. When I would stop losing, I would evaluate everything that was contributing to weight loss and try to make sure I wasn't failing to do something essential. For me, these were the factors that could keep the weight coming off: 1). Water. If you are not drinking enough water, your body will compensate to hang on to the water it does have. 2). Protein. You say you are hitting your target and that is great. Keep it up. 3). Exercise. Daily exercise every day gets more important as you lose weight. It can help your metabolism stay higher and burns a couple hundred calories per day for you. Since 1 pound = 3500 calories, you can estimate the impact of daily exercise over time. 4). I find that if I am not recording calorie counts of all food eaten each day, I get off track. I highly recommend you keep a food diary or get on something like myfitnesspal if you are not already doing it. I think many, many people on here will tell you they too have experienced month long stalls. So don't despair, just fine tune your actions that contribute to weight loss and plan your meals, water and exercise and this stall will break. Stalls are vexing, I hate to experience them because it feels like your hard work is not paying off. However, that is a myth. Our stalls are simply the prelude to an extended period of weight loss and staying true to all your dr's instructions will pay off. This weight loss journey can be really emotional, but please remember this is really about math. Good luck, things will look better soon!

    Need your opinion

I also don't think you should wait until next week to get this resolved, or at the minimum stick to foods that you can tolerate without throwing up until next week (if you can identify them, and this isn't totally random). Hopefully, mushy foods are going down okay.
  24. Hello all! I am currently 5 years post op and 23 weeks pregnant. Up until recently, I haven't had much to complain about regarding the band. In the last month or so I've noticed an increase in port pain to the point I am hurled over and almost in tears. The pain basically feels like my port is literally being torn from my abdomen. The other day after an increase in both pain and occurrence,, I was finally able to see my Doctor who decided the best option at this point would be to remove my port and once the baby is born, go back and re-attach a new port. Now I'm not worried about not having and fluid in my band as I've had zero fluid in my band for close to a year now. My major concern is the actual port removal while pregnant... Has ANYONE had a port removal done and what was it like post op? I work as a CNA so I'm hoping recovery isn't too bad. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
  25. Even the clear part of acrylic nails is tinted so it would mask the true color of your nail beds and possibly interfere with the pulse oximetry. I just planned my nail appointments around my surgery so I was three weeks out of a backfill and took them off right before heading to Mexico. Got a new set put on 2 days after returning home.
