Gastric Sleeve done 4th January
Debojean replied to Neensyb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow! I am so impressed!! That is a huge day. Speaks volumes about sleep and hydration. Your attitude though was probably the majority of how you had such a productive day. Very inspiring. I find myself wanting to sit down and rest between tasks which I’ve been doing. I go back to work on Monday (working from home due to COVID) but am wanting just one more day. 😂. I know it’s early but am aware that so many people experience hair loss around month 3-6. So I’ve been focused on that on my protein. I still can’t figure out if it’s from surgery or lack of protein so I’m not taking any changes. I found a protein “water” that I think will help. In the US GNC sells Isopure. My Dr highly recommended it as well. -

So I am sadly in the same boat as you now... SW-130kg CW - 115.6KG - 1 month and 10 days post-op, struggling as I've reached the mysterious halt in weight loss everyone goes through haven't seen a change on the scale for a week or so. MOTIVATION NEEDED - the first month was SOOO good. Scared I won't lose so much in the 2nd month reading through the posts did help but - just want to be sure I WILL OVERCOME THIS RIGHT? *Freaking out a little* -

Change up your food plan, swap meals around, walk in the morning and the evening, have more water.....just a couple of things that have helped me in the past.

Thank you! will definitely try that - and have been trying a lot of other things. Hopefully this also passes. HOWEVER! i did start reducing weight again! now I'm just vomiting a lot =s

Oh no, that's not good. Go back to liquids for a few days then puree, soft foods etc. It's a really big physical change for our body, I am finding the slower I introduce new things the better it is.
Good luck!

Has anyone done the endoscopic overstitch to revise bypass
Kariryles replied to clc28's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Those of you who had it done, what was your post op diet. Had mine yesterday and gastro doc said 4 weeks of clear liquids, 4 weeks of full liquids and then soft. I don’t see how I can get enough protein in the first 4 weeks ?? anything that helps me get back in the weight loss mindset is worth it to me -
Overstitch procedure

I had mine done yesterday. I read mixed reviews. I figure if it helps me get back in weight loss mode it’s worth it. But my gastro dr who did it gave me a weird diet timeline. What is yours? -

I am terrible about shopping every purchase TO DEATH (I had been shopping for a new TV for over two years before I finally gave in and bought one on Black Friday). When I bought my air fryer, I was actually shopping for a deep fryer (this was way before I started my weight loss journey, when I was in an "eat what tastes good" phase), but I kept seeing air fryers in my search results. I decided that I would give the air fryer a chance and buy a deep fryer later, and I just picked one! I bought the Amazon's Choice air fryer and I could not be happier. I never did go back and buy a deep fryer. -
I had always problems with my weight and now I'm thinking about a really strict diet or even about a weight-loss operation. Can anyone advise me on what to choose?

But you've done GREAT - 90 pounds!!! It's perfectly normal to have a stall after such a dramatic weight loss. Ride it out.

Just scheduled with Blossom Bariatrics late February
TimeToFeelFit posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well, I did it. Instead of waiting for approval from Aetna, which I heard can take four to six months, I thought I would just do it now and see if I could get a jump start on my weight loss during Covid times. I booked today with Blossom Bariatrics for the end of February. I can't believe I am doing this! I have researched and researched but I just don't want to wait. Let's get this DONE!!! -
Knowing it happens made it easier for me to accept when it did. It’s just your body taking a breath to get used to all the changes you’ve been making. I’d heard all the stories about upping or lowering your calories, changing your activity, etc. but I just stuck to my plan & I started to lose again. The first one lasted a week. I had a couple of what I called mini stalls where I’d lose less than my average loss across a week. My last one was my worst. One kilo off goal & I sat there for 2 & a half weeks. Longest 19 days in my life. You’ll get through it & you’ll start to lose again.

When you can't finish your meal
ms.sss replied to BigSue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im thinking that so long as you keep on top of total calories consumed, it doesn’t really matter how it gets in? l mean, consuming 3000 calories in 3 dedicated meals vs 10 mini-meals will still result in weight gain. And consuming 800 cals in either manner will result in a loss. I think for a lot of peeps (myself included) grazing is a necessity. There is no way I could eat all the food I eat in a regular day in just 3 meals (unless of course my “meals” were like 3 hours long or something). But of course, do what works for you, as we all have different MO’s that work for each us. Its really trial and error: follow a plan and keep following until it is no longer giving u the results u want...then change as necessary ❤️ -
Anyone for Jan/ Feb 2021

This is what I posted in the post op section. I have to say, being day 3 after surgery I have asked myself a number of times what the hell have I done....then I have moments of comfort which removes all concern. It took me nearly 12 hours to come out of the anaesthetic properly, and I had the awful sweats and nausea, but no vomiting. I remember only the Ice packs put behind my shoulders and the cold towel on my head.....ooh it felt so good. The nurses were just smashing and I'm going to send a thank you hard to them at the ward. I came home the day after surgery. I've had two bad nights, but last night felt so much better and slept 8 hours straight. I am already 4kgs down since surgery so that gives me hope. My first night home I was worried about my intake of Fluid. I struggled to consume even one cup of liquid a day. Yesterday I got through an entire Optifast shake, one cup of warm coffee, and about 500ml of Powerade zero. What has worked for me through trial and error (haha that auto corrected to "terror") 1. Don't drink laying down. Try and sit upright as possible, it reduces the chance of pain. 2. Small sips mean exactly that. Wet the inside of your mouth, and don't do more than two at a time. 3. Room temperature liquid gives me less issues 4. Make a shake in the morning and aim to complete by midday. Same for the afternoon 5. Keep on top of standard pain relief. Here in Australia we have panadol which is safe for bariatric patients. I tried dissolvable ones but the contain effervescent bubbles... not a great outcome 6. When pain is felt, stand up tall, take s deep breath through the nose and slowly out through the mouth. At most it has been two breaths and the pain is gone 7. A cool shower, clean hair, clean jammies and clean sheets make everything feel better [emoji16] 8. My headaches are likely to be caused by coffee withdrawl. I added 1tsp instant (powdered) coffee to a choc or vanilla shake. Voila!! Headache gone Just my thoughts, and hope some of these ideas can help others just having had surgery. Day 1 I was 7/10 discomfort, and full of unfounded regrets. Today, day 3, 1/10 discomfort, totally happy with my decision to have taken this route. How are you all doing? 6 months post-op...reset to goal

I'm so sorry for you and your hubby's loss 💔. You do look amazing though, so sending you wishes for peace and strength. -
I don’t think you have failed at life at all, if anything you have taken it by the horns and are steering it in the direction you want to go! I have a 13 year old and he said to me the other day ‘I think you are really brave for doing this mum’ I was ready for not really understanding Instead I got the opposite. We all make these choices for ourselves for different reasons. We wouldn’t think that someone taking depression/anxiety meds had failed just they needed a little help. I am one day post op and feel on top of the world in my decision, albeit very gingerly stood there. I wish you all the best with your weight loss journey xx

Today is my 6 month surgiversary! I was really hoping to hit my 100 pounds of weight loss and a BMI less than 25 by today, but I have been slacking a bit on tracking my food and the carbs have definitely been up. On Monday I decided to get back on track and focus on food, tracking everything I was putting in my mouth and focusing on protein. My 6 month labs show I am still a bit protein deficient and iron deficient. My surgeon’s office had given me the go ahead to not take iron, due to my constipation, but looking at my labs I need it. My plan went sideways on Monday night, when my Mother-in-law suddenly died from COVID. Thankfully, due to the hubs and me being nurses, we were able to be with her when she passed. Yesterday I gave myself grace and used food for comfort. Today is a new day, and so my reset to focusing on diet starts today, my six month surgiversary. Time to lose that last 20-ish pounds! Having just completed my 3rd week post op I wanted to post an update in case it helps anyone with a late December surgery date still in that first week. I guess having read so many people saying minimal pain after Gastric Bypass, and felt recovered "pretty quickly"...left me with exaggerated expectations of my healing. I should have really asked a bit more of what is minimal pain mean, and what are the typical expectations days after surgery, a week after surgery...when do I not feel any pain? The first week was definitely rough, pain was moderate (to me), meaning I felt every movement I made and was uncomfortable in all but a few positions. Day 8 for me was finally a point where I felt I could get up and down without much discomfort, and walk around for longer period of times with pain being too much. I declared I finally started feeling human. Each day after that it gets....better. Not dramatically...just a longer slower upward trend than my patience and pain threshold was ready for. I had no obligations to be anywhere for 2 weeks - and WAS SO THANKFUL I did that. I am back at work week 3 but definitely not at 100%. And I just sit behind a desk. I would say for just doing computer work for 8-10 hours I am at 75% of where I was pre surgery. And very worn and more hurting at the end of the day. From a physical standpoint of any type of real movement ie Hiking, or long walks...I'd say I am 40-50% of where I was... So for anyone in those first 2 weeks wondering like I did why I am not up and feeling great....maybe this will be some type of encouragement. The key takeaway for me is...each day is an improvement...and taking time to heal is ok...it's not a race...a journey. Each body is different. I am thankful for no real complications, and am very pleased at the initial weight loss I have experienced since prepping for surgery, and over the past several weeks. That is also helping to motivate...and know each day is a healthier me as well. November 26th - 290 December 15 - 270 (Surgery) January 6th - 245 I would have NEVER believed that was possible. So thankful there is a tool that can help me get my health under control. Hope this helps someone out there struggling through pain...just rest, do the best you can each day to stay hydrated..and time WILL PASS..and you WILL feel better. Just takes time...

Insurance requirement of a year of weights/BMI's

Thanks for all the replies, they're all so different! My doctor's office just called and said they'll get it faxed over to my weight loss doc's office today. Fingers crossed, hopefully I get good news soon! Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Thanks - as I get further out from surgery I'm trying to understand how post-op life will be in the long run. I'm coming up on two years in March and transitioning out of the weight loss phase. I appreciate your insight.

Weight stall - Insight/Encouragement needed
AZhiker replied to kelclrk's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think it has to do with metabolism issues. All of a sudden your body has gone from a comfortable and cozy 3,000, 4,000, 5,000, 10,000? calorie pleasure ride to crashing down to 400-600 calories. The body just says, "Hey, this is for the birds! I am literally starving to death. I better hang on to every last pound I've got!" But eventually, it has to give in to the deficit and the weight comes off. This is just my own fabrication of the process, but in the end, the caloric deficit will result in weight loss. Plus, the surgery resets a lot of hormonal loops that decrease appetite, increase sensations of fulness, etc. This is a HUGE adjustment and it just takes some time to get past it. When you see really rapid gains (like 2 pounds in a day) that is water weight. It could be from salt in the diet, increased carbs, hormones, or any number of things, but it's not fat. Likewise when you lose several pounds in a day, that is also water weight. You may weigh daily, but track on your charts weekly, on the same day at the same time. That will be more accurate than the daily fluctuations. Hang in there. If you have not lost weight in almost 2 weeks, then you are nearly at the end of the stall! It's just around the corner! -
We have four great kids now, but along the way, there were three miscarriages (miscarriage 1 > kid 1 > Kid 2 > miscarriage 2 > miscarriage 3 > kid 3 > 5 years later *surprise kid 4). Nobody seems to talk about them until you go through it yourself and it is more common than you realize. It was really hard on my wife and I wish had been able to show the loss and grieve better with her. I was the stoic and strong one and that was exactly what she didn't need. I think it would have been much better for her and our relationship if I was able to show more emotion while we were going through it. Those were really tough years.

Weight stall - Insight/Encouragement needed
Neller replied to kelclrk's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I understand completely! I’m 2 months out from VSG and have had two stalls that have each lasted about 10 days. It’s SO frustrating!! The weight will start dropping again. Just yesterday I started losing again. How are you doing with exercise? I find if I don’t walk, I slow down in weight loss. Hang in there. As frustrating and maddening as it is, it can’t last forever!
