Trouble getting protein and liquid requirement
My1way replied to gustavio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told to drink 64 oz of Water per day. Impossible for me! I hate water and always have. I would manage maybe 24 oz per day. I don't recommend what I did, but just to let you know you are not alone. My doctor finally told me to count any liquid into that 64 oz requirement. I found sugar-free Popsicles. I made frozen popsicles from Protein drinks both creamy and clear. For protein powders, don't buy large canisters at first. You can get free samples from almost any maker, even buy them at GNC (single protein powder sizes). That way you will find what you like. I found mixing flavors helped. Mix chocolate and vanilla, coffee (Click makes good coffee flavor) and vanilla. I also use unjury. To me it tastes the best but Slim-Fast now makes a pretty good protein powder different from the original that was for Meal Replacement weight loss. When you mix the powders, use the blender, add ice, use half milk and water, add Peanut Butter powder, add flavored greek yogurt. Now at a year, I can pretty much figure out what works for me. I know to eat only when I am hungry and stop before I get full. -
It's hard in the early weeks. I cried almost every day worrying that I would never feel "normal" again. You will get there! I promise. It may not be your old normal, but you will get to a new normal and be able to live your life like a real human being again. It's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel so early out, but you will look back at these posts one day and it will all be a distant memory. Just focus on one step at a time right now. Work on your protein! Go to GNC or Vitamin Shoppe, if you have one in your area, and try some sample sizes. Try getting your protein from other sources too. I relied heavily on greek yogurt and string cheese in my early weeks post-op.

Can't get the feel for my sleeve
ShelterDog64 replied to cline2400's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's funny that you snuck in a bit of scone...I've had little hunger and few cravings, except I think about blueberry scones almost daily. They weren't even a top 10 food for me pre-op, but I swear I dream about them. So bizarre! I definitely sympathize with the desire for fruits and vegetables, it's that time of year when our farmers market is loaded with the best of the entire season and I can only have tiny nibbles of it. I've been freezing blueberries and blackberries like crazy, hoping to save some of what I'm missing right now. The only thing I've seen you write that I'd question is that you're not allowed the muffin or bread until you're reached your Protein goal for the day. My plan wants me to eat my protein for the meal prior to any veg or starch, so I eat my meat/cheese/whatever, then some vegetable, then if there's room, I might have a touch of quinoa or brown rice or a small piece of grilled potato. I'm still using Protein powder to supplement so that I can have some fruits and vegetables during the day, I put a scoop of GENEPRO in my coffee every morning, then have some cottage cheese or yogurt with some berries after I'm done with my coffee. That way, I get a big protein hit early in the day, which helps me greatly. And one more thing (sorry, it's early and my brain isn't fully on yet!), I just spent 10 days traveling and eating in restaurants and it's SO much harder for me...lots of moments of nausea, my only episode of vomiting was in a restaurant bathroom, and in general, not the pleasant experience I used to have eating out. It's kind of an eye-opener, thinking about why restaurant foods are so much harder to eat...I think it's in the prep, lots of oil and butter, stuff I'm not cooking with at home now, at least not in large amounts. Also the size of the meals tempt me into eating more than I know I should, and I have a tendency to nibble and pick at my plate even after I'm full. I'm learning how to manage all of that, but it takes deliberate thought and doesn't allow me to just relax and eat and drink like I used to. This is such a HUGE change, in all aspects of our lives, isn't it? -
First day of pre-op diet
latonjaw replied to joei0005's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was thinking the same thing! Today is day 1 of my pre-op diet and I'm struggling BIG TIME! I can have 5 Protein shakes, sugar free freeze pops (three 15 calorie) per day and either Jello, 1 cup of strained cream Soup or 6 oz fruit flavored no sugar added light yogurt (100 calories) in which none of the above sounds tasty! I'm exactly one week out from surgery and everything has been going awesome but I hit a bump in the road...! This morning after taking my meds I got very nauseated and then when I tried to eat yogurt my stomach hurt after a spoon. I decided not to eat and slept off the pain. I was able to drink without problems all day but when it came time to take my meds again the same problem happened. I also had the same stomach pain and ended up throwing up, which I had not done at all until today. Any suggestions as to why this could be happening and what I should do? Please help...! Thanks! I'm exactly the same. My husband doesn't cook either. He finds what he likes and microwaves a lot. At first after my surgery, I did fix eggs for me. I would hard boil a dozen and eat them through the week. I would but soft cheese and yogurt. If he wanted to eat that, he would. Now 2 years out, we go out to eat as we used to do and I find something to eat and he does as well. In a perfect world, he would eat healthy like me, but that ain't gonna happen. We both hate to cook and it's ok. Take out works well too. Just not everyday. You will be fine.

Hand on your heart - how bad were the first few days after getting sleeved?
Patchakc replied to skinnyjeansatlast's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5 days out. Second day in the hospital I was very nauseated. Dr said it should be gone by the next day. It was 80 percent gone pain was fine, it's just the first few walks. I've just been sipping on protein shakes and tried a little yogurt. The unknown stinks, but I feel like if we do what they say it will all work out perfect -

Here's an example of my day Breakfast = Dannon lite and fit Greek yogurt lunch = half to 3 quarter cup of homemade chili (made with ground turkey, kidney Beans, and bell pepper, and tomato puree and seasoning of course)....that's this week..........some times I have an Atkins frozen dinner, but can only eat a little more than half. Dinner = 3 ounces of Grilled or baked meat (chicken, fish, pork chop) with non starchy veggie. I can usually only take a bite or two of the veggie If I'm hungry after dinner or need more Protein I may have another yogurt... As far as Water I drink water all day....on average about 80 ounces. I don't drink any Protein shakes. -

Thanks, everyone. I appreciate the feedback. I'll try a little of the Isopure powder I have (a small bag) and see how it goes. At least now I know I won't be ruining a whole cup of yogurt or pudding. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

food spending has increased. We are a family of 5, and we are still buying all the "normal" groceries for the kids and husband. Now we are adding my premier shakes (not cheap), broths, yogurts and Vitamins. Note to self: I don't have to take this day all at once but rather one step, one breath and one moment at a time. I am only one person.

11 months out today. Breakfast: one egg, small turkey sausage link, sprinkle of 2% cheese. Morning snack: light baby bell cheese, cup air popped popcorn. Lunch: 2.5 ounces Protein, normally chicken. Tablespoon shredded Parmesan, sugar free Jello. Afternoon snack: 80 calorie Greek yogurt. Dinner: 3 ounces protein (chicken or fish normally, sometimes steak), zucchini pancake, sometimes small piece of bread. That's my typical eating every day. I have to do the Snacks or else I'd never get enough protein or calories each day. I stay really low carb. I exercise most days but nothing drastic usually walking or a light weights routine that I do at home. I have lost 151.6 so far since surgery. -

If I need a snack at night because we eat very early like between 4-5pm most days then I get a frozen low fat yogurt. It's good that way, I do have to stick it in microwave for 18 sec so I can at least get a spoon in it lol. -

I don't even know I try but eating and drinking the same things are flat out frustrating all I can really seem to tolerate besides my fluids are yogurt mashed potatoes and cream of wheat Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I pureed eggs and they tasted awful pureed. I would wait until you can have soft foods. My nutritionist Said to try to add salsa for flavor. I pureed up two rotisserie chickens deboned and deskinned and that saved me. Got some low fat gravy and mashed potatoes. Pureed cottage cheese tastes like plain yogurt. Having to lose 14-20lbs before surgery
Alex Brecher replied to BeautifulSharifah's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@BeautifulSharifah, It’s tough to lose that weight. That’s why you’re looking into weight loss surgery! But there’s hope! Have you asked your surgeon for a meal plan that can help you? Working at Chick-Fil-A is not the best, but it could be worse. Instead of thinking about what you can’t have, what about focusing on what you can? Chick-Fil-A has a bunch of junk – fried chicken sandwiches, chicken nuggets, waffle fries, Breakfast sandwiches on biscuits, and milkshakes, but they have plenty of good things, too. You can have grilled nuggets for 140 calories and 23g Protein, a side salad with light dressing for 105 calories, a Greek yogurt parfait for 230 calories, a fruit cup for 50 calories, and more. It should be possible to grab a healthy breakfast and lunch. Aside from Chick-Fil-A, you can focus on cutting back on unhealthy foods like sugary drinks, Desserts, and fried foods. You can also think about what you can have rather than what you shouldn’t. Think vegetables and lean protein, with some fruit and healthy fats, and you should be able to lose some weight. Finally, stay positive! You have a lot of reason to stick to your healthy eating plan, since the reward is weight loss surgery! Also, remember that you have plenty of time. It will probably feel like the weight is coming off so slowly, but that’s okay. You have tons of time, and can hit your goal by losing a pound a week. Good luck! -

Having to lose 14-20lbs before surgery
ML573663 replied to BeautifulSharifah's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I am the same weight as you except I am 5'3"! I am also getting surgery in December. My doctor just told me I should be losing 15-20 pounds before we meet again in October So I have been in the same boat as you. I am going to download Myfitnesspal and use it- some tricks I have been doing is eating Protein first, so I start filling up on that, drinking a lot of Water, having fruits and yogurt nearby for a snack, and just being conscious of how often/the portion that I eat. Lots of luck to you! I am here if you want to chat! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
