    +4 pounds in 3 days?

No its probably just Water retention . I weighed in five days ago and weighed in this morning and I'm up almost 13 pounds !!!! I start my period next week sometime plus we was out all weekend doing things and I ate alot of high sodium foods and that sure didn't help matters any either . I can gain anywhere from 5-10 pounds, a week before my period and it wont come back off till the day I stop , and like I said high salt foods did not help matter. My eyeballs about came out of my head this morning when I saw that lol. But I know there is no way I could I put on 13 pounds of fat in five days , I would have to do some heavy duty eating during that time and even though I have no fill in my band physically I cant eat like I did before cause I would be sicker then a dog . I should have stayed off the scales I knew I was retaining water my ankles told the story lol. Nothing to worry about that is why I dont like to weight in every day . I can weigh in one day and be down a pound and then two days later be up five pounds. The foods you eat, the weather, TOM , sodium all plays a huge factor in weight gain . I retain water so bad though I can eat one day of high sodium foods and I pay the price for it for days I wanted to get some water pills from the doc especially during TOM but he said the more weight I lose the water retention wont be so bad , hope he is right .

    Pre-Op Liquid Diet Weight Loss

Thank you so much! I am praying I can shed at least 5 more in the next 10 days!
  3. Ok so my surgery was January 31, 2012 in the first two and half weeks I lost 32 pounds and have been stalled for 2 weeksish. This has caused me to be so bummed. Even through reading posts about it being normal, and doing everything right: I'm still obsessed with the scale and bummed. My NUT said I already started out with a dramatic weight loss and I'll start to equal out and lose 10 pounds a month, conservatively. However I am trying to focus on the positive. Therefore I am posting my first NSV: I HAVE A NECK!! In my wedding pictures I was at my highest weight (still had an amazing wedding). However the one thing I noticed was my head looked like it sat on my shoulders. Yuck. Last night I went out with some friends and after being tagged on Facebook (I usually dreaded) I was happy with most of the pictures and noticed my neck (: I also posted two pictures in my gallery and can see a little difference there as well. Here's to more NSVs and a healthy journey! Have a fabulous Sunday, sleevettes!

    Drinking with meals

I learned long ago to rather drink before eating. It avoids making an aquarium in your stomach because drinking slides through if no food is there yet. Now after the sleeve, I can't drink right after eating, feels very not right to me. 36yo Male HW:308 SW:302 CW:228 Sleeved 01/30/2017
  8. I have appt this coming week, they are working me in so am not sure what date it will be on - for final meet with dr. I've been working on researching bypass vs. sleeve to make sure that I feel like I concur with what the dr. has suggested. I'm torn on some of the pros/cons of both surgeries based on following about co-morbidities/health situation: I do NOT have high blood pressure I do NOT have high cholesterol I do NOT have diabetes I do NOT currently have ongoing heartburn/acid reflux (get heartburn 3 or 4 times a yr, and acid reflux..maybe once a year if that) My BMI started out at 60 and is now 54? I am 50 yrs old (not young) I have long clotting history but NO clotting disorder EVERY episode of clotting (DVT's/PE's) had known causation. Have permanent IVC filter since 2011. Knees have severe arthritis and need replacing - have to get to 40 BMI to have kneed surgery Here are some generalities I've gathered on sleeve vs bypass from searching here, google searches, and many youtube videos watched. If anything is wrong, please let me know. It's amazing that despite how much you read/watch, you can come away with questions still - maybe my retention is shot with long pre-op diet?: Bypass – possible chance of bowel obstruction later after surgery Bypass – possible chance of twisting bowels after surgery (don't know %) Bypass - less chance of reflux/resolves reflux for many Sleeve – chance of developing reflux (do not have more than 4 episodes a yr of heartburn, maybe 1 of reflux) Sleeve – chances of clots forming in previous ‘stomach/fundus’ area - not able to get specific % (this was also something dr. mentioned) Bypass – chances of clots/DVT's? (haven't found specifics yet) Bypass vs. Sleeve - hair loss - tied. Rapid weight loss causes this and can occur with either surgery Bypass vs. Sleeve - more long term data on bypass than sleeve Bypass vs. Sleeve - overall amt of weight loss tends to even out for both at around 5 to 6 yr mark, but bypass has 10 to 20% greater chance of 'initial faster weight loss" Bypass vs. Sleeve - chance for hernias, ulcers, etc. %? for both (need to find out) Bypass vs. Sleeve – likely to cause more time in bathroom? Bypass due to dumping/vomiting (some see dumping as a 'pro'?)? Sleeve due to vomiting /diarrhea? Bypass vs. Sleeve - % of Vomiting / Amount of Nausea (same?) Bypass vs. Sleeve - easier to stretch out sleeve pouch?? Bypass vs. Sleeve - lesser % of chances or regain with bypass in long term? Statistically significant? True or False? Bypass vs. Sleeve - sleeve has more reduction of hunger hormones ghrelin & leptin as fundus removed? Anyone know if bypass has statistically significant reduction in 'unger hormones'? Bypass vs. Sleeve - more chance of malnutrition with bypass - what happens with my long term meds & how they will absorb/not absorb (take 2 anti-depressants and 1 is 'slow release' - take 2 diff meds for sleep due to shift work disorder)?? Bypass vs. Sleeve - bypass surgery longer Dang..i feel like I'm missing some obvious stuff on this list!!!! Going to go look at snippets saved in Word doc.

Approval: Healthcare Exchange Plan - BCBSIL

Hi I have BCBSIL. I've met the surgeon 12/10, psych eval 12/10, meet the psych again 12/21 and meeting both surg and psych tomorrow 1/14. I have a BMI of 35 and osteoarthritis - but has never visit the doctor for that with this insurance. I don't want to be rude, but I was just wondering what your BMI was before surgery and if you had co-morbilities. I called and my plan covers the surgery so I'm happy about that but I am extremely nervous about being approved.
  12. Hi there, I just got approved by UHC for the Sleeve on 10/31. I started my 1000 cal diet today and so far so good. I've got all this head knowledge and I think I'm prepared. But I'm sure there will be times when I dont know what the hell to do and just need a little bump in the right direction. If anybody is willing to help me through this I'd really appreciate the support! Thanks Jay
  13. My surgeon said I had to take 2 adkins drinks,4 oz meat and one cup of any veg (no peas or corn) everyday prior surgery. This was a nice way to shrink the liver because I have been on liquids since...19 days.....Good luck, it does work !
  14. Since this weight loss journey, I've had to deal with a lot of comments, mostly good. I am a pear shape and tend to lose weight first on top so I prepared myself to hear some negative comments (i heard those when i had lost weight before). I'm hearing things like: I need to eat something before i blow away, I don't need to lose anymore weight, i'm getting too skinny, I'm going to look like a bubblehead if i lose any more, etc. now mind you these are not from people that are significant to me. I'm 5'6 and started out at almost 250 and wear a size 20.. now I'm 182 and wear a size 14 on my bottom and 12 on top.. i'm trying to drop down to a size 10 bottom but would evaluate myself once i'm a size 12 on bottom.. so in what world is that too skinny or that i can't afford to lose more weight. I find myself getting defensive and that frustrate me. People are making it seem I'm being ridiculous and unreasonable. I guess i'm tired of hearing it because i'm going home to see my family on thanksgiving (they don't know about my surgery just that i've been losing weight) and I expect more comments along the same line. I just wanted to vent a little
  15. I have my surgery today at noon... Have to be at the hospital by 10...

    no longer morbidly obese

30 is obese. 35 is severely obese and 40+ is morbidly obese. you can use a chart or roughly: 702*(weight in pounds)/(height in inches squared) so 279 for 5 foot 10 is (702*279)/4900 = 40 the 702 is there because BMI originally in metric units and the 702 used when doing lbs and inches instead.
  19. I was an evening smacker while I watched TV. Since I no longer snack (3 meals and one Protein shake per day), I spend less time watching TV in the evening. I tend to play on my computer more and read. During the day I actually spend more time eating. Before retraining, I was a fast eater, often gulping down Breakfast and lunch in 5 minutes or so and finishing dinner in about 10. Now I spend 30 minutes on lunch and dinner and about 15 on breakfast. Lynda
  20. My insurance doesn't require any weight loss during the 3 month monitored diet period, but the dietitian told me that I should lose at least 10. I'm down 2 pounds since my Welcome Group, and yesterday was my medical, dietitian and physical therapy required appointments. So the 90 days started yesterday, and will finish November 30th (approx). I was reassured that I should have no problem getting scheduled before the end of the calendar / insurance year on December 31st.
  21. My insurance covers 90 days after surgery no co-pay. My first was 2 weeks then I will go two more times then 6 months and one year. I don't remember the time frame thereafter. I will see my PCP in September. My surgery date was 4/29/19.

    Not going to be Popular...

i also eat low carb i was just responding to the fake sugar issue. i eat less than 10 grams of sugar(most days under 5) and 50 grams of carbs per day and the carbs are from my veggies. i gave up flour and all its products cause for me the issue was and is Carbs. If i consume processed carbs i get hungry not full. with my restriction i can feel full to the point of being sick but be starving in my head if i eat processed carbs. This is me and others my have no or less issues but i know how i feel when i eat them so i just dont eat them and i an so much happier now when i eat.
  23. Surgery date is 10/16 SO EXCITED AND READY TO GET THE SURGERY DONE!!! ????????

    Non-scale victory today!

Isn't that the best feeling! I'm a bit older, but did the same thing with a gown I had worn 10 years ago - the last time I had lost a ton of weight. I weigh more now then I did then, but the gown was big on me. Don't know how that happened but I'll take it! Congratulations!!
  25. Great question! I am a little worried though. Have you guys heard of vertical banded gastroplasty or "VBG" also known as stomach stapling surgery. I have been reading many forums and threads online about people who are 10-12 years out and their staples start giving them serious issues. I hope that this doesn't happen with gastric sleeve when people start becoming 10 or more years out from surgery. I am hoping the newer technology prevents that from happening.
