    Hello surgery twin! I'm August 27th as well - 7:30am! The liquid diet isn't so bad since I've done so many 3, 5, 10 day smoothie, military, etc., diets in the past. I felt a little weak today but determined to make it through by thinking of the smaller me ; ) Best wishes on surgery day and the changes to come!!!
  2. I’m at the point where I go through things every 10 lbs. It’s about a size for me. I buy pieces to shrink into from thrift stores. So every 10 pounds is a good time to evaluate which of those clothes fit as well. I really hate baggy clothes, so I’m probably fussier about it than many people.

    Getting off cpap..?

    It is definitely possible that you no longer need CPAP. It is also possible you DO need it and just need your pressure level adjusted. I was diagnosed and started CPAP in Feb/March. Mine was listed as mild to severe (mild was when I wasn't really sleeping/ severe was in the little bit of time I actually slept). I am starting to do really well on CPAP and sleeping much better. I also am able to stay awake later than I was able to before, so I know it is working. That said... I have surgery scheduled in 10-11 days. I am REALLY hoping that losing weight will mean I can go off CPAP. But, the only way any of us can know for sure whether or not we can remove CPAP is by repeating a sleep study (some do a version of it at home). Just know, weight loss is much more possible/successful if we are compliant with CPAP.

    My turn around time was very quick. It was submitted either Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning, and by Friday (yesterday) I had been approved. Today I got a call from BCBS Federal nurse doing a quick "pre-op" touch basis. She said she will call the hospital and check on my the day of surgery, then call me once more a couple days later. Totally painless process for me! My surgery is in 10 or 11 days (scheduled for 11, but I was told they will probably move me up a day due to a cancellation the day before.

    Good to hear! I was the same with more soreness instead of pain. Don't be in a rush to get those drains out. You'd rather have them for a few weeks versus getting a seroma! I had 4 drains total. 2 of them came out after about 10 days. 1 came out at about a week, and one was in for almost 3 weeks! I had to keep them in until draining less than 10ml per 24hr period.

    Glad you are doing well. Keep the drains if they are collecting. Swelling and absorbsion take 10 x as long as drains Yes - for me it was great to have skin that fit my body. Enjoy!

  9. I’m 2 weeks into the 3 week liquid stage and I’ve never been more excited to chew something! I’m googling food ideas and drooling over the pictures like they’re some kind of illicit porn. What was your first chewable meal post-surgery? I’m fantasizing about a soft boiled egg and cottage cheese. I’m planning on setting out the good china and making a production of it.     The Maintenance Thread

    I’m 6 months post bypass. The most volume of food I can eat in a 15-20 minute sitting is 1/3 to maybe 1/2 cup. Today I had 1 egg, about 1/4 cup of veggies and shredded cheese on top. The veggies cook down so it’s a half cup. I can eat half of it in a few minutes then have to wait and come back 10-15 minutes later to finish it. If I eat yogurt I can get a cup that’s 5-6 oz in 5 -10 minutes easily. Is this about the same for you?
  11. Just an update. In April I moved from Strong Lifts to Madcow and now I'm doing the Wendler 531 with the four day split and the optional Big But Boring sets. Basically divides lifts into four separate days of overhead press, deadlift, bench and squat. I like this program because you only do each compound lift once per week compared to Strong Lifts and Madcow where you are squatting every workout. The core lifts are not too bad but the Big But Boring (BBB) lifts for squat and deadlift SUCK! You basically go to failure on the last set of the core lift for that day and then deload to a lighter weight but do 5 sets of 10 reps. So for Monday I'll deadlift 330lbs as many times as possible until failure, give myself about 3 mins of rest and then reload to 195lbs and do a 5x10. It's brutal and I just finished the first cycle and I'm on day 6 for a "rest week" before starting the second cycle. This rest week coincides with vacation and I was starting to feel really run down with some minor but nagging aches and pain (tennis elbow in left elbow and left knee stiffness). Six days in those aches and pains are all gone but man I still feel fatigued and tired. I figured by now I'd be dying to get back to the gym but to be honest I have no desire to go at this point - I'm very surprised by this. I'm also consuming about 3000 cals per day now and I've changed my macros to 230g of protein and 250g of CHOs. Still eating well - mostly Whole Foods and complex carbs. Since April I've put on about 10lbs but my waste size is the same - waste size is basically the only measurement I take on a regular basis. I've definitely put on significant size in the past 3-months and I'm stronger but I still feel like I'm tippy toeing on the overtraining line and based on this rest week I think I've clearly fallen into overtraining. I really thought by day 6 of this rest week I'd be dying to get back it. The weird thing for me is I have ZERO issues at the gym - I feel strong and motivated when I'm there and bang out these workouts no problem. This is followed by the post-workout euphoria feeling for the rest of the day and it's not until the next day that I feel profound fatigue (some muscle soreness but minor) - drained - empty in my core. Any guidance is appreciated! I know, I know...reduce volume, reduce intensity or reduce both....

  18. My doc said the same, focus on protein and water. I was hoping to lose more than I've lost by now but I understand it won't happen overnight. I'm keeping myself busy and trying not to pay close attention to the numbers.i hope you find a good therapist close to you!     HA I hear ya! I have a close family member who had WLS 10 years ago, lost 100 pounds in record time, and has kept it off - woo hoo! The reason I mention her is that for awhile she was kinda self-conscious and on the fence about extra skin, but she gave it some time and came to total peace with it, for real (believe me, I'd know if she wasn't ha ha) - and she urged me to do the same. Waaay too early for me to even think about that, but thought I'd pass it on to you - with the note that I know every one is different - just wanted to share.

    Try an app called "1 Second Everyday: Video Diary" — You can do photos too. It does exactly what you want. Sends you reminders. You'll find some samples on YouTube for inspiration — haven't found any that are weight loss related though. I am planning to do the same as well. Scheduled for revision on 9/9/19. Can't wait to see yours and share mine!

    August 2019 Check In

    I'm in shock and awe!! Don't know what to think.! Weight at 1st meeting 5/19: 199.4 Weight on surgery day: 214 8/19 (yes food funerals)!! Weight 2 days post OP: 224lbs (I actually just ignored this an acted like it didn't happen) Weight today as I sit waiting for my Doc: 203lbs Surgery date 8/16/19. 11lbs in 7 days [emoji54] I am the biggest skeptic in the world because I was so sure this may not work for me. Just encouraging any one out there that doubts the abilities of this surgery, especially given everything we have done in the past, it Works and please go for it!   24. 5'2", ♀️10m PO tomorrow!, maintaining 116.5 lbs (another example of odd weight fluctuation..scale showed a 2lb drop even though I still haven't pooped since last Friday. Yes, that is 7 days worth of poop I'm carrying around in my colon. Gross.) Yesterday, Thu Aug 22: I was gifted a jar of PB2 yesterday and I was all excited to eat it..I added it to my chia pudding it was meh, I prefer my almond butter. I'll try it with a protein shake next time. Totals: 1009 cals - 97g - protein - 27g NET carbs - 50g fat 8:30 to 10:30am (12 cals) 3 black coffees w/ ½ packet of Stevia 1:00pm (380 cals) salad w/ low-cal vinaigrette + 1 fl oz pumpkin seeds 106g cottage cheese 28g prosciutto 60g dark meat chicken 3:15pm - (109 cals) 19g chicharron 5:30pm (139 cals) salad w/ low-cal vinaigrette 86g grilled chicken 6:30pm (369 cals) 106g protein chia pudding 20g blueberries + 10g walnuts 1 tbsp PB2 Exercise: 1 hour hot yoga 20 min run on treadmill

    Consider that perhaps: +The people who really cared likely didn't want to kick you while you were down +Those that were neutral/ambivalent just saw you for you (the best) +Those who were highly critical likely used you as a mirror reflecting their own fears of imperfection (nothing to do with you at all) +And some may have simply discussed your weight in passing/behind your back. All past tense (you can never be 10 or 20 yrs old again) Your present & future truths are so much more important. Good Luck with the struggle 💜
