    Anxiety SUCKS!!!

Okay all, I think I must be the biggest wimp! I was starting to get a little crazy last night thinking about the 6th. Nothing I couldn't stuff to the bottom of the priority list but there was a definite weight on my heart about this. I ignored it and went to bed. This morning I wake up with a tremendous headache. I thought my head was going to explode. Of course I HAVE to ignore that because I only have a half day at work today and I have a ton to do to get ready to be gone Thurs. and Fri. still. Then my son wakes up and he has diarhea. Lord help me, can anything else go wrong? Well, DH says its not problem and everything will be fine, but I can't help thinking that what lousy mother would leave her sick child to go have elective surgery. It's not like it's going to kill me if I don't have surgery tomorrow. So I have to go to work and I'm driving along and the headache is getting worse because I know I shouldn't be going and I know I should be at home with my little one, and I don't want to cancel surgery, and I'm being selfish, and my MIL shouldn't have to deal with this, and I really have gone through hell for two weeks to turn back now, and, and, and..... well, if your head isn't spinning after that, mine was. So I pull over and have a full fledged panic attack. Never had one of those before. It got so bad that I pulled out a candy bar my son had in the vehicle and took a bite....and I chewed....and I chewed....and I chewed....and spit it out. I called my school and said they would have to do something without me the rest of the week and then called hubby to come get me because I was hyperventilating and didn't think I should drive. Well that was 3 hours ago. I took a shower, a bath, and then a nap...and now I feel much better. I called my coordinator and she said, "If you weren't having anxiety, we'd be worried about you." She stepped me through all the reasons I was probably feeling these things and talked me calm. I'm better now and thought I would share this story so that if any of the other up and comers feel this way, they'll know they aren't alone. I almost feel guilty I'm such a wimp, but there is my mea culpa. Steph

    Bone pain? Weird question!

When you were heavier you dispersed your weight differently. You walked with pressure on different areas than you do now. You will adapt a different gait when you walk as you lose weight, dispersing your weight differently. There are several threads about this that I've come across while researching.
  4. Or how about the ones that say, "you can't eat that" how the hell do they know what I can and cannot eat. I have actually had people stop talking to me at work over the amount of weight I have lost. Oh well then they were not my true friend.

    hello new this forum....

Welcome! Losing 8 pounds is a wonderful start! You will fluctuate from time to time or just totally stall. If you haven't done measurements do them now! When you aren't losing on the scale you are losing in inches. This is still weight loss and the scale will reflect it eventually. Congratulations on your surgery!
  6. I agree with the above statement we are fear that we will regain the weight. I think its natural to have this feeling I am now 9almost 9 months post opt and I still have weight to loose , I am now focusing on one day at a time and eating correctly, I still work out 5 days per week although I have hit a stall but I am pushing forward.

    The Losing Battle

I'm so glad your not offended by my honesty.... some do. Im glad you told your doctor everything.... Im with you on the accountability. and i think WW could def help you keep on track. I really think if you start moving more... and eating less you will see the difference. I would give it a try... what do you have to lose except more weight... right? Get serious about taking your life back.... i did, that's why im getting divorced. Life is too short to be unhappy and i can tell this weight is making you unhappy and you are falling into the stress/depressed eating pattern. You didn't like that PHY.... go see another one and another one till you find someone you like and feel comfortable with... someone that won't baby you, someone that will tell you what you NEED to hear and not what you WANT to hear You did it once.... I know you can do it again... YOU just have to believe in yourself.

    The Losing Battle

Deffanatly get your band checked there have been many bad side affects from it and many revisions to the sleeve or rny due to weight gain and your body not tolerating it. The only able to take 2 bites at a time sounds like that. I am currently going for a revision to rny cause I have gained back all my weight and now have GERD from the band. I have an intolerance to the band as well regular PBing no fun. Good luck and msg me if you have any questions. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

Hi everyone, Thanks for the replies. My surgeons diet plan seems to be very different to most others, he told me that I could have virtually any liquid I'd like, virtually anything can be blended he said, and as of week 4 according to my diet sheet I can have bread 1/2 times per day. I'm really hoping to avoid that, as my problem has never really been too much of a sweet eater, but where carbs are concerned, I've never been able to help myself, so I'm hoping to steer away from my surgeons recommendations in that respect or I'll never lose any weight! I've managed to get in about 350 calories a day, it's easier now than it was! I'm managing soups and shakes and water much easier than I was a few days ago! Also, i will be keeping away from fruit juices too! Thank you all for your kind advice to my messages! I've been so worried about it all going wrong (I'm a massive worrier!) But almost a week home, I'm realising that it's all going to be fine. I cant believe I'm 10 days out from my operation already!

3 wks post op and can eat anything

I think this is pretty normal or at least it was for me. Just remember this is a tool not a fix all. I was eating way too much in the first three weeks as well even though I was still losing weight I am sure I could have lost even more had I been a little more mindful of my intake. It is not that I ate large portions it was just that I sometimes made poor choices & ate at McDonalds because I was in a hurry. This is a learning lesson to change our eating habits for life and sometimes it is hard. I am doing better now eating more eggs, fish, chicken breast, fruit, salads, etc.. I am hardly ever hungry and when I do get hungry I make a protien shake with 8oz milk and it is very filling it keeps me from over eating, high in protien and low in sugar and calories. I don't deprive myself I just change things around a bit. I used to love having a Venti Mocha every morning from Starbucks now I have a tall bold pick with cream no sweetener. It saves me calories and money and I still feel like I am getting a treat and if I haven't had breakfast I will get the lowfat turkey bacon and eggwhite breakfast sandwhich (don't usually eat all the bread). Again, this is a process and when the pounds start really coming off you get motivated and really want to make an effort. I track everything on www.myfitnesspal.com it is free and their data base pretty much has everything in it. It makes me more mindful when I take a look at what I have been eating. Good Luck and don't get discouraged because many have been where you are at and you are still doing good you have already lost over 15 lbs that is something to be proud of! You will do okay, especially after your first fill.

    Prayers please

Hi Marilyn, First of all, thanks for being courageous enough to seek help and ask for prayer. Since you are a Christian, let's begin with the Word of God which states in Psalms 118:17 that "I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD." You need to declare this word over your life everyday! Literally wake up and say out of your mouth "I WILL LIVE AND NOT DIE, AND DECLARE THE WORKS OF THE LORD." Secondly, we will be praying that God opens a door for you to receive the surgery you desire. In the mean time. Be encouraged! You are not alone. There are many people on this forum who understand what you're going through. I had to learn that the weight may affect my emotions, but it does not define who I am! You are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalms 139:14)! I will be checking on you. Keep us posted and remember to speak God's word over your life daily. It has power! Min. Natalie
  16. Hey Golfbuddy, My surgeon received insurance appoval for my sleeve based on my weight and BMI recorded during my first consultation. The insurance coordinator said there's an assumption by the insurance company that I would lose weight before surgery, in preparation for surgery and to show an ability to lose weight by following a plan. Actually, during the informational seminar, the nutritionist told us that some patients would have to follow a liquid diet 2-3 weeks (losing as much as 20 lbs) before surgery to shrink the liver. I would talk with the insurance coordinator in your surgeon's office before becoming discouraged. Good luck!!!!
  17. I have been full of regret and anxiety and wondering if I made the right choice.... I am 8 days out from surgery and I have been suffering through. No major problems just sore and sad and anxious... But I decided that I should be thankful. I chose this and I need to make the best of it. So I am trying to change my inner voice to things like You can and are doing this You are stronger than you think You do not need food to be social You can have fun still There is no attack so just relax. I have also been trying to calm myself with deep breathing. And trying to get back to my old routine... Doing better with liquids and Protein. Trying to get my calories up a bit too. 5'11" Highest weight 322 Pre op weight 307 Surgery weight 296 Current weight 280

    My 2 Cents

Hello, my name is Julie. I am a wife and the proud mother of 3 wonderful children. I am also a Lucky patient of Dr. Thomas Byrne at MUSC’s Bariatric Surgery Program. My journey truly began in 2010; I weighed in at 226 pounds. I had spoken with my general physician on several occasions about my weight and the attempts that I had made (weight watchers, Jenny Craig, etc). My doctor suggested that I call MUSC’s bariatric surgery program for a consultation. I went home that day and researched weight loss surgery. I called that same afternoon for a consult appointment. My first sign that I was doing the right thing should have been the caring voice of Lisa Jackson. She helped get my consult set up and all of my questions answered. My consult went awesome. Dr. Byrne made me feel so welcome and most of all I felt that he cared about me, I was not just another fat chick in his office telling him "I am fat, please fix it". We went over the three different surgery options available, along with the risks and benefits to each. We discussed my goals and expectations as well as spending a great deal of time going over my health history. I also got to meet with one of the Registered Dieticians on staff. After consulting with Dr. Byrne, we decided that the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy was my best option for me. I felt so prepared after this appointment; all I needed to do was to set the date. After several months of research and red tape with my insurance I had the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy surgery in August of 2011. I had a slight bump in the road during recovery but nothing that Dr. Byrne and his amazing staff could not handle! I had developed a small blood clot in my abdominal cavity. Dr. Byrne and his physician’s assistant Diana quickly had me on the mend with the utmost care and compassion! Every day was better and better! I am now 7 months post VSG; I must say that I have never felt better! I wake up every day thankful for Dr. Byrne giving me this amazing "tool" to help me to become a healthy ME. This "tool" has worked so well for me with the help of Dr. Byrne’s team of registered dietician’s as well, Debbie and Nina. I have learned how to make healthier choices at home as well as at the supermarket (thanks to the supermarket tours and monthly support group meetings). I can’t say thank you enough! Thank You!!!! I am so happy to say that I have lost 70% of my excess body weight! I have lost 75 pounds and feel amazing. I am riding my bike at least 3 times per week, I go to an awesome Zumba class (Zumba with Alma) two to three times per week, and I am doing the 10 minute trainer videos at home. I try to stay current with support group meetings and other activities when I can. They are so informative, even for non surgical folks. I will tell anyone that asks me; Dr. Byrne and his staff (Diana, Debbie, Nina, Lisa, and the amazing nurses) are the best!!! I have seen other surgeons talk about weight loss surgery so I can truly tell you that I would send anyone to see Dr. Byrne! I actually did send my mother and my sister in law. My mother had Gastric Bypass in July 2011 and my sister in law is planning to have VSG in the next couple of months.

    breakfast

I am on my 4th fill and can't do breakfast. I do protein shakes and if I want to eat have to wait aleast 2hrs after being awake. And those day I try to eat even mush like oatmeal I struggle the whole day with eating and barely get my 1200 calories in. I really don't get it. Who else has hard time eating breakfast? I miss it sometimes what some healthy eggs or oatmeal. It blows. I also haven't seen any weight lose in 2 weeks. I bugs what is up with my body. I work out I eat healthy what is up?
  22. Hi I had my surgery on the 6th April 2009 with the hospital group in the UK. I lost 14llbs initially, had a fill on the 21st May and have not lost anymore since!! I have booked in for another fill on the 16th July and am hoping the weight will start to shift. I know the band is in place as certain foods get stuck also if I don't chew, or eat to quickly I throw up, but other than that I can still eat relatively large portions and get hungry alot. does this ring any bells with anyone and if so how did they over come it, I am feeling really frustrated as it cost £7000.00 and for that I only get four fills, of which I will use the 2nd next week!!

    To much for a meal?

Love it!! Thank you! So helpful. My overrating is continuing to eat when I'm already full and eating/snacking when I'm not truly hungry.. And it's mainly junk. I feel like I'm doing exactly what got me to be over weight to begin with. Sent from my LGMP450 using BariatricPal mobile app

How are you eating at 7 months out ?

It can all be very confusing!! Are you still trying to lose weight or are you at maintenance? I think that will make a huge difference. You are right that it's hard to find options that are both low in carbs and fats. Sometimes we have to create our own recipes. I saw one recently that looks really good, that might help you with your taco craving. I saw where someone took cheddar cheese and spread it out on parchment paper. They put it in the microwave and melted it. Then they laid the melted cheese on the paper, over an upside down bowl. The cheese hardened and formed like a bowl. After it hardens, fill the "cheese bowl" with all the ingredients used for a taco. I'll see if I can find the recipe and attach it.
