    2.5 year update

First of all congratulations on a job well done!! And next thank you for your perspective on carbs. I've been lazy lately and have hit a 6 month stall that is totally self inflicted. TOO MANY CARBS. Time for this old girl to get back on the wagon. Again thanks for sharing and motivating.

Hi fellow Bandsters! I have never been on a forum like this although I have had my band 3 1/2 years. I plateaued 2 years ago and have gained and lost the same 11 pounds numerous times. Is there anyone out there like me?? I could have another fill but am concerned about getting enough nutrition and Water. I would rather change the bad habits not handled by the band. Any comments?? Leslie Oh BTW, I suppose being a chef poses it's own set of challenges even with a band. I am also considering other employment options.
  3. Hello, I was banded 2 yrs ago and haven't had any major problems with my band. I have not 'followed band rules' for about 6 months now. I've gained back 15lbs. As for my problem/question... I started having pain in my legs, actually the muscles in the backs of my thighs about 2 months ago. [i don't have any lower back issues and haven't exercised in quite awhile.] When I bend over it feels like my thigh muscles are tied in knots. After about 2 weeks of this I then woke up with a severe stiff neck. I had to turn my whole torso to look around. My shoulders, collar bone and down my left arm hurts. It also hurts under my left shoulder blade and it feels like my spine is bruised in that area. I can't raise my left arm fully and hurts like hell when I try. It actually hurts in the 'socket'. My hip joints are so sore that I have trouble walking. I used to walk super fast, always did, but now I look like an old woman when I 'shuffle'. I went to my chiroprator about 6 times and it didn't help. I just spent 4 days in the hospital and had scans on my neck and brain and blood work out the wazoo all came back fine. I go to a neurologist[?] on monday and they're talking about doing a spinal tap!! Has anyone had these types of pain and found out it was from scar tissue from their band? I will crap if my band is the cause of all this!! Any help would be greatly appreciated, Darlene

    December 10Th Is Surgery Day

Liquids for 6 weeks, you are a champ! Why are they making you wait almost another month? How are dealing with the new date? Hang in there!
  6. I'm not sure about the beautiful young lady that passed away in vidor. However, I can tell you that this is not the first problem with the Medical center in this area. Me and my soon to be husband were looking at homes and we found a nice realator in the area. We found a house but it had major problems and we just decided to wait for a while. We did not her from her but I heard she had gastric bybass and was in the hospital. I ran into her daughter and asked her how her mom was doing and she said that she died. This wa a couple of weeks later. I have heard of other storeis similar to this. But I knew this person. Maybe the young lady had gastric bypass. I am considering surgery but I thought the lapband was safe. I know your body may react differently and that probleems could arise but I didn't think it was major. This is scary. I'm considering Dr. ortix in mexico.

    NSV + stupid comment

I teach high school. This is the spring. I teach high school. We've had a full moon. I teach high school. We have TAKS (state mandated standardized testing) next week. I teach high school. OK, so now that we've gotten the basics out of the way... After school today a very well-meaning co-worker asked me what size I have gotten down to. I tell her a 12 and she responds with "Back when I was chubbier, I got this dress that I only wore once that is a size 12. It is just sitting in my closet and I'll never wear it again. I just wanted to offer it to you if you'd like it." GEEZ!!! I've lost 65 pounds and dropped from a size 20 to a 12 and you want to start off with "back when I was chubbier" in reference to a size 12?!?!?! Come on people, THINK before you speak!!! Not 10 minutes later, a senior boy (who I've never taught) stops me as I am walking by his table and says "Mrs. Huebotter, I just wanted to tell you, you look amazing!". At this point, I am shocked and just stop and look at him. As I realized he is starting to get embarrassed, I have to check myself to say "thank you, I've been working really hard at it." He responds with "I can tell." Sometimes God knows what we need right when we need it. I sure needed an "amazing!"
  11. I got it puréed had like 3 taste and didn't care for it. Ordered mashed potatoes instead taking the rest home.
  12. Def can tell the difference in lifting and not. I am down 2 lbs not lifting. I seem to lose more when I do lift... So time to step back up lifting this week, I only did one day last week. Bad Tina. THe band is a tool you have to work with it.

  13. Relaxing while forgetting about a crazy work week. Ahhhh don't you just love Friday nights...

  14. Does anyone have a list of post op instructions that their dr gave them? I don't mean the diet part but like the physical activity, etc part. There is an event for my work that is going to be about 1 1/2 weeks post op for me and it will involve a lot of standing and walking all day long. I really don't want to have to do it so if anyone has any post op instructions that involve not standing/walking for long periods of time after surgery, could you email it to me? Thanks! mandiradams@cableone.net Mandi

    Got my date... now questions

I am finding all of the information interesting and SO different. For instance, this topic of how to prepare. I was told no fleet or laxatives. I am to do an eight day liver cleansing all liquid diet prior to the surgery. That's it. Then I am to do 7 days or less of all liquids, followed by 7 days or less of pureed foods, followed by 7 days or less or soft foods, and the on to regular foods, eating every two hours and drinking. Lots of Protein added to everything from day one, no sugary or melted foods recommended, and I was told I could probably return to work within 3-5 days. Of course, everyone is different so it is probably best to listen and follow doctor's orders as it seems that each doctor does things a bit differently. ~ D ~

    Got my date... now questions

I would definitely recommend you have someone stay with you the first 24-48 hours. I couldn't get up from a sitting position by myself without help from my husband. (this includes sitting down and getting up from the toilet). At 48 hours I could sit and get up by myself but just slowly. I honestly thought that I would be driving around and shopping by day 3, but I was slower to recover. I drove on day 6, but I still had some pain. I went back to work on day 7, but if I dropped something, I still couldn't bend over and pick it up. Make sure you have lots of fluid/broth. sugar-free popsicles are a must have. Get a lot of different kinds. Also, I was lactose intolerant right after the surgery, so when I used milk for my Protein shake, it made my stomach upset. The dr. said this is normal and it went away after about 3 weeks. Congratulations on your surgery date!! You are going to love the banded side
  19. I go to the chriropractor now, I have no problems and get everything done that I did before. I recenly had a car accident and I have to go 3 times a week to help with the whiplash. I am now back to once a few weeks and doing great! GOOD LUCK!

    Normal?

It is normal to me because I recently went through it too. I actually gained weight the day after the surgery, 4lbs I think it was. I was not happy at all and then couldn't loose any for almost two weeks. Then to my surprise the last two weeks it has been coming off on a good basis. I was banded June 20th. When I had complained to the doctors office they told me I was suppose to concentrate on healing not loosing weight in the beginning. Don't sweat it, it will come off. Good luck and congrats! Colleen
  23. I have Cintra and was wondering if insurance will deny you if you dont lose weight while on the 3 or 6 month supervised weight loss plan?

    Victorville Area

Looking to talk to some people around me I just got my band about 4 months ago and I have lost 30 lb. but this last month I only lost 3 lb. and I had a very tight fill. I haven't been exercising very much but the weight loss has def slowed down thinking maybe if I could get together with some people we could encourage each other.
