  1. My doc said the same, focus on protein and water. I was hoping to lose more than I've lost by now but I understand it won't happen overnight. I'm keeping myself busy and trying not to pay close attention to the numbers.i hope you find a good therapist close to you! Before and After Pics

HA I hear ya! I have a close family member who had WLS 10 years ago, lost 100 pounds in record time, and has kept it off - woo hoo! The reason I mention her is that for awhile she was kinda self-conscious and on the fence about extra skin, but she gave it some time and came to total peace with it, for real (believe me, I'd know if she wasn't ha ha) - and she urged me to do the same. Waaay too early for me to even think about that, but thought I'd pass it on to you - with the note that I know every one is different - just wanted to share.
  3. Monday, August 19th, 2019 Gastric Bypass RNY here! Kinda nervous I possibly already posted in here but can't remember due to post-op drug haze ha ha ha. 😆 I've been looking for an active August-surgery-peeps thread - so happy to be here - woot woot!!!

    Time lapse photo journal

Try an app called "1 Second Everyday: Video Diary" — You can do photos too. It does exactly what you want. Sends you reminders. You'll find some samples on YouTube for inspiration — haven't found any that are weight loss related though. I am planning to do the same as well. Scheduled for revision on 9/9/19. Can't wait to see yours and share mine!

no one cared when i was fat

Consider that perhaps: +The people who really cared likely didn't want to kick you while you were down +Those that were neutral/ambivalent just saw you for you (the best) +Those who were highly critical likely used you as a mirror reflecting their own fears of imperfection (nothing to do with you at all) +And some may have simply discussed your weight in passing/behind your back. All past tense (you can never be 10 or 20 yrs old again) Your present & future truths are so much more important. Good Luck with the struggle 💜

    The Last Pound!

So, I am now 10 months post op RNY Gastric bypass. I have exactly one more pound until I am "normal" BMI! I am so excited! I saw my doctor recently when I was 125 lbs and he told me not to lose any more weight. After much discussion about how I really want to be a normal BMI and it was only 2 more pounds he agreed it was ok to do. I'm sure this last pound is going to be the hardest one to lose! According to my doctor I have lost 93% of my excess wt. I wonder if I can actually make it to the "ideal" wt they gave me, 117 lbs. My doctor said he doesn't expect me to go that low. Hmmmm....sounds like a challenge!
  10. I had VSG 8/27/13, my RnY was 6/4/19 (so I can only give you about a 3 month update) 1. None, it’s been great. 2. My weight loss has been percentage wise better than my sleeve. I was 322 when I was sleeved, had a low of 242 with that. I was 248 with my RnY and am currently 213. At the 3 month mark I had lost around 24% of my excess body weight with the sleeve. I am around 38% down of my excess body weight with my RnY. (From my heaviest to now including both surgeries I am down 65% of my EBW) I lose 2-4# a week. My restriction is better than I had with the sleeve. I have no real intolerances. I had bad stomach cramps when I tried tuna and haven’t tried that again but otherwise I eat fresh fruits and veggies, meats, dairy etc. 3. Mine was done for GERD and it seems to be gone. I cut to half on my protonix post op and should come off it in a couple weeks at my next appt. 4. None. I’m very happy. Any issues I have are in my head (fixating on the scale stuff like that. It’s hard to slow down and enjoy the journey.
  11. Hi this is my first post, but I’ve found the comments in here very helpful, I just out about this 4 or 5 days after surgery. I got sleeved on 8/12/2019 I ‘m 5”6 and started at 241lbs and I’m down to 226 lbs, about 15lbs in 11 days. In general the pain hasn’t been too bad just some discomfort at night , I’ve had trouble finding a comfortable sleeping position. I’ve been managing the liquid diet without much anxiety, although I’d be lying if I say I don’t miss food. But I’m keeping my mind set on the goal. My target weight is 150lbs.
  12. They're going to look at your entire progress. I got denied the first time because I lost too much weight...and my bmi was 60. My insurance wanted to see me fail to lose and maintain 10% of my excess weight. It seems backwards but I wouldn't do anything that would cause you to lose. I'd also drink a ton of water right before you weigh in lol.
  13. Started soft solids today, 10 days post-op (2 days early). 1 egg + 1/4 cup egg beater + a dollop of plain greek yogurt to smooth it out, scrambled, + reduced sugar ketchup Went down fine. I just had to eat slowly. Took about 25 minutes to eat. Protein Shake Ricotta bake (I changed the recipe that's been floating around by doing half cottage cheese, adding spinach, and adding some parmesan) Filled an 8oz ramekin with the ingredients, which I knew would probably be too big for a meal. I was right. I finished about half of it over 25 minutes and felt uncomfortable and had a little bit of pain. My stomach "sleeve" did not feel physically full. I just felt it in my lower esophagus... which I guess is my stomach now. I don't know, I guess I don't know what full feels like anymore. I finished the rest after waiting 15 minutes, and the second half took about 20 minutes. I'm very happy to be eating normalish food again, but I may have overdone it with the portion for dinner and introducing too much on my first soft solids day.
  14. Thanks for the suggestion and the advice. I manage a team of 35 and work long 12-13 hr days which doesn't leave much time for exercise. I do walk alot while at work. I've been trying to cut back my hours so I can dedicate 1 or 2 hours a day walking/exercising. It's just so much to do and not much time [emoji852]. 5'4" Starting weight 297 VSG on 7/31/19 Surgery wt: 266 CW 248 GW 135 Sent from my [samsung Galaxy] using BariatricPal mobile app

    Post your progress pics!

308 was heaviest. RNY was 11/19/18. As of today I’m down 115 pounds and still losing! I feel amazing!
  16. I'm 22 days post OP and have lost 18 lbs to date. My diet currently consist of 2 premier protein shakes a day and 1/2 cup of baked or grilled chicken. I'm able to get in 50 to 60oz of water a day and I do 264 stair steps a day. I've only lost 2 lbs this week, thought it would be more. The nurse says to increase my protein and water but it's so hard. After a few bites I am already full. Just wondering what I can do to lose more weight. I have alot going on right now and have no time to excercise more than the stairs. I hope I'm on the right track and doing what I should be doing. 5'4" Starting weight 297 VSG on 7/31/19 Surgery wt: 266 CW 248 GW 135 Sent from my [samsung Galaxy] using BariatricPal mobile app

no one cared when i was fat

So, most of you have read that I wasn't always heavy. I didn't gain weight until 10 years ago when I was 20. When I was a healthy weight, 140, my doctors would constantly tell me I was "bordering" on overweight and "at-risk". My family member who told me I was chubby since I was age 8 continued on berating me for my size. I was a completely healthy size my whole childhood and teenage years. Anyways, I developed body dysmorphia and truly believed I was gigantic. So, I gave up and ate. And ate. Until I actually was large. And then no one cared. That family member stopped making comments. Not a single doctor commented on my size. No doctor ever brought up any risks from obesity. It all stopped. It was like I had so much pressure when I was thin to stay thin, but then when I was fat I was a lost cause and no one cared anymore. But I look at my picture from the day before my surgery and it actually disgusts me. I am clearly uncomfortable. I am miserable in my skin. I do not look attractive or happy. But no one said a word. I find this to be really infuriating because when I was heavy I needed the encouragement the most and the discussions with the doctors... NOT when I was actually healthy and fit and "1 pound away from being considered overweight on the BMI". I sometimes feel really angry that all the people around me saw me looking how I did and didn't say a word of concern. When I expressed my discomfort of being heavy to my ex he just said "screw it. let's just get fat together, who cares". I wish people "cared" when I was actually gaining weight as much as they "cared" when I was fit. I probably wouldn't have had such severe emotional eating issues, although probably still some dysmorphia from the childhood comments from the family member. Everytime I do a before and after photo now I am just appalled because I am *almost* the weight now when everyone was telling me I was fat. But when I was ACTUALLY fat no one said a word. But suddenly now I look great? Um. 10 years ago you were calling me fat at this size. TLDR; I look at my "fat" pic and feel so gross and angry that no one cared that I was fat that should have cared, except me. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. Hi, I'm also in Tampa and had my surgery 22 days ago and I'm already down 18 lbs post OP. After many many years of dieting...losing and gaining it right back and numerous health issues. I knew I needed help to lose the weight and keep it off. Having this surgery has given me the tool I needed to help lose the weight. I have zero regrets and going into this after spending countless hours of research has helped mentally prepare me for my new way of viewing food. What ever you decide, I wish you all the best!! 5'4" Starting weight 297 VSG on 7/31/19 Surgery wt: 266 CW 248 GW 135 Sent from my [samsung Galaxy] using BariatricPal mobile app

  20. Have to admit I'm white knuckling the OMAD thing today. Only my stubbornness is getting me through! So last ten days I've averaged about 1550 cal/day, the previous 30 before that I was around 2300 cal/day. Over the last 10 days my protein has averaged 52 g/day, I won't tell you my carbs, cause you might keel over 🤣 Not sure if I'll get a whoosh, or what exactly is going on. Up until today it hasn't been a challenge to IF or scale back the cals. So I'm more curious than frustrated by it. Tonight is a type of "Taste of" event. There are about 40 restaurants participating. I know all the stuff I want to eat tonight, but small portion of my wish list is realistic. I definitely plan on a duck meatball, and something from my favorite bakery though!
  21. Hugs @FluffyChix ... I know that is not what you were hoping to hear today! 🙁 "she said that 5lbs wouldn't make or break me, but that I needed to give up on the BDG goal, cuz she didn't think it would be healthy for me" I think what you should keep in mind if your surgeon has your well being as her priority. She doesn't have dysmorphic glasses, or BDG blinders on. She;s as close to unbiased as you can get. "And what about the 10-15lb rebound that I'm terrified of succumbing to in year 3? *big gulp*" First, it's not inevitable, anymore than only losing 60-70% excess body weight post WLS is. Second, if you do have a bounce, it will be ok . You can be perfectly healthy, attractive, active, and feel great at a point or two higher on the BMI scale. I believe there is actually a study or two saying as women age it might be beneficial to be closer to the top end of a healthy BMI. In my mind the question for you is ... what will you replace your BDG goal with? From everything I know about you, you need a purpose. Your drive is admirable (and a little frightening). There are so many areas you can focus your energy on, so you can be a healthier FC, than you would even be at your BDG weight.
  22. 😕So during my sleeve surgery 6/27/2019 my doctor found a small tumor. It was cancerous and very active. It did not show up on any pre op work, he was literally in the right place at the right time. These past few weeks on top of healing from surgery I have been seeing an oncologist. My doctors worked together with me and decided that going to a gastric bypass and bypassing the part of my pouch that is cancerous is safer than putting me on powerful cancer targeting medicine that I would have to take for the next 3 years, Gleevec. The oncologist told me that my case was about 1 in 1000. Normally people come to him with a huge tumor that is beginning to spread cancer and at that point they have a gastrectomy. My surgeon has also never experienced this where a tumor did not show up on preop but he is against messing with the sleeve at all and would just rather cut all that part out if that makes sense. He said he has seen where making the sleeve smaller leads to more complications vs doing a sleeve to bypass. I flat out asked him if I was being punked. I have not had any major complications from my sleeve, I did have to go to the ER almost at the 6 week mark for sharp pains (turns out I ate tuna too fast). They did a barium swallow and everything looked great with the sleeve no leaks or anything. I regretted my surgery in the first week and I am a little nervous about having surgery again but I’m also glad they found this. If I had chickened out before having the surgery or dropped out of my doctors program like I had done in the past, I would never have known about this tumor growing. I’m feeling a bit meh and blah about it all just thinking about the liquid diet I will have to do all over again 😂 but I’m also trying to remain positive. This site helps a lot so thank you all for your updates, the t.m.i. (Looking at you poop threads,we all need you) , the highs and lows etc. My surgery date is 9/5/2019.
  23. Hi guys! So I had my 18month surgiversary this morning and things were great -- until my surgeon sat forward a little and told me that she needed to talk to me about a bone density test and asked if I was being followed. I asked why and she said, "It looks like you've lost more weight..." And she had a concerned expression on her face. I told her I was within 1lb of where I was at our last office visit but that I hoped I'd replaced some of the fat with muscle. And her expression was "concerned." I told her that I was eating...and so we discussed that she REALLY is not in favor of me losing any more--that as many of you guys have said (and studies show) that there isn't any advantage to losing more weight from where I am. I reminded her again of my Goal #3 (only 4lbs away...yes, I have the first dollar in the LOST jar people) and she said that 5lbs wouldn't make or break me, but that I needed to give up on the BDG goal, cuz she didn't think it would be healthy for me. And I asked her if she thought I looked gaunt or unhealthy and she just paused and looked at me with a regretful face and slightly shook her head. Like she didn't want to say anything to hurt my feelings. But like, "Bi*ch, you're looking old and worn out!" And man. It's totally messin' with my mind. Cuz I don't want to stop at 134lbs. I want to stop at 130lbs. And I just don't see how or where I'm looking gaunt? Dilemmas in Weight Loss Land! First time evs a doc has had "the weight talk" with me and it was about being too thin. I thought that was one of life's myths? That you can never be too thin or too rich? And what about the 10-15lb rebound that I'm terrified of succumbing to in year 3? *big gulp* (Oh and I'm getting a DEXA body analyser scan for my birthday next month.)

Ok, so I'm gonna give you unpopular advice, but advice that comes from the men and women who give us these surgeries and the RDs who work for them... We will never be "perfect" but you can at least plan for "ideal" and accept that you are human. What the means? Don't look at mini meals as high reward events to "treat" yourself. Don't plan for maintaining or supporting the negative habit of "snacking" by making it a high reward event. Go for boring. Go for fuel. Change the thought and reframe it. Right now, you need to eat minimeals cuz of your volume limits and how new you are post op. So each meal should NOT consist of highly processed foods. It should be 3-6 pretty evenly balanced calorie/macro mini-meals. (And from my standpoint I try to do clean/low reward/minimally processed foods that still satisfy--but that's just me.) So mini meals now, since I can get most if not all of my food into 3 events, is actually 3 meals + 1-2 "snacks" of 100cals or less (think raw veggies and a yogurt ranch dip--homemade) if ABSOLUTELY necessary. Snacking is a slippery slope--especially if you can eat 1cup of food volume per meal. It just packs on mindless (often slidery calories) that will inhibit maximum weight loss. And it's so possible to have a 500-600 calorie snack from crap! And if we've made it to the MO Ball, chances are we KNOW how to snack. So a better question would be, what are some QUICK and easy mini meals? 1. Cheese stick/baby bel/light wedges 2. 1-2oz rotisserie chicken 3. L/F or plain yogurt with 1oz blueberries + PB2 powder 4. Cottage cheese + 1oz of some kind of fruit you can eat or some savory veg 5. Tuna/chicken/salmon pouches (2oz) 6. P3 (processed, but still sometimes necessary) 7. Lunchmeat roll-ups (processed, but still sometimes necessary) 8. Bone broth 9. Leftover meats from previous meals 10. SF Jello 11. SF Popsicles 12. 1 cup of raw veggies or salad with Greek Ranch dressing 13. 1 cup of cooked veg or salad of your choice with minimal calorie dressing 14. hard boiled eggs 15. 1 tbsp nut butter with veggie sticks 16. Iced protein latte or frappacino 17. cold boiled shrimp 18. meat stick/beef jerky (processed but sometimes still necessary) 19. hummus and carrots or raw veggies 20. thinking... I could go on and on...

The Quest chips that say “tortilla style” are better. A serving of turkey pepperoni is 15 slices but I usually just grab 5 or 10 depending how hungry I am.
