How many calories do you eat a day?

While trying to lose weight I aimed at 1240 calories aday. I did balance my carbs, sugars, proteins and fats. I ate around 90-120 gms of protein, around 75-100gms carbs, less than 40 gms of sugar and less than 30gms of fat. I used to set up MFP to these standards. The hardest for me to hit was the fats. I was always eating nuts and they are very high in fat content. The diet I followed for over a year was a healthy diet, eating 3 balanced meals a day and 2-3 high protein snacks between meals. I rarely eat back my exercise points, why because I was trying to lose weight. I do planned meals, I eat within an hour of rising in the morning, a mid morning snack around 10 am, lunch around 12 noon, Mid afternoon snack 3 pm and than dinner and snack before bed if hungy, I also drink lots of water. This method worked for me but each of us are individual in our journey. Good luck!

    Weight and waist?

I'm only 10 days post op, I've lost 20 since day of surgery, 26 total. Today is the first day I got all my Protein in, although close on the others. I realized the majority if my calories, for now, will have to come from Protein shakes, (I'm on soft puréed) but 1/2 an egg isn't much. Lol My 26 lbs has definitely come from my thighs and some in butt and stomach. I'm not going to complain, they're the biggest areas on my. I took measurements pre op so I would know...at the times I may get discouraged, so I can just look at the numbers and compare later on, down the road. Don't be discouraged. It's coming off and that's the good news! It just takes a while for us to notice.

    No weight loss

I know how you feel. Basically the same thing has happened to me. I had surgery July 15, and I have lost 20 lbs. I lost all 20 within two weeks of surgery. None since. And I have been trying very hard. I don't eat between meals at all, and I try to eat healthy meals. It is just that I have no restriction and can eat as much as I could before. I have never felt one bit of restriction. This is probably the hardest I have worked at dieting in 10 or 15 years. Discouraging to say the least. Just wanted you to know you're not alone.

    Surgery Date

The time goes by so fast! My surgery is 10-22 and I wake up every day counting down the days! I keep myself busy. Been sewing jammies to wear after so there is no band around my waist. Made the kids a few things fun! DISTRACTIONS! Let me tell you it has helped!

  10. I found out I wouldn't "qualify" in the 10 minutes it took me to read my policy....it doesn't cover WLS for ANY reason. I was actually kind of relieved. No doctor visits, no support groups, no psych evaluation, no 3-6 month supervised diet, no piles of paperwork or whatever other hoops you have to jump through. Just focused on finding a great bariatric surgeon in Mexico, scheduled it and I was at home, recovering and losing weight before I would have even started the insurance scam ( I mean process)
  11. I've been trying to lose a bit of weight before my surgery (six month wait due to insurance.) I've been reducing my calories and even started upping my Protein. This morning I realized that if I lose more than 22 pounds during my supervised diet, my BMI will drop below 40 and I wouldn't qualify for surgery. I "only" have one co-morbidity and my insurance requires two if you're BMi is below 40. Although I'm thankful insurance will cover it (and I've met my out of pocket maximum due to gallbladder surgery), it sucks that I could be penalized for being successful. So I guess I'll set a goal to lose 10-15 pounds until my paperwork goes in, which will either be end of July or end of August. I'm not sure when the insurance asks for a six month monitored diet if six visits with the NUT counts or if I have to do seven. Anyone out there know?
  12. Hi. I wanted to write in to get some advice regarding the (first) meeting with my surgeon. Some background about 16 months ago due to a knee problem I started swimming daily and eating better; lost 30 pounds. Five months ago out of nowhere I had a blood clot which caused stroke like symptoms. The treatment for the clot is going well but requires taking blood thinners. Hopefully my March tests will indicate that I can go off the blood thinners. Lost 5 pounds before attending screening session. Nurse practitioner said the doctor might put me on a liquid diet once I met with him. In the six weeks since that meeting I have lost 12 ponds. I had a great meeting with the surgeon and asked lots of questions. At the end I asked whether he would be putting me a liquid diet. He said that from feeling my abdomen that he could do the surgery today without a liver shrinking diet. However, to reach a lower goal weight he recommended I jump start weight loss by doing a specialized 500 calorie liquid diet. The hospital sells the shakes at their pharmacy though you don’t need a prescription to take them. At this point I do not have a surgery date. The doctor said he may be booked until April. I had an appointment with the nutritionist and she said this particular doctor likes this liquid diet. She is not a huge fan. The liquid diet consists of 5, 100 calorie shakes. The Nut said she sometimes has someone do 2 shakes and one sensible meal for two weeks before the surgery. The Nut said she would tell the doctor we were holding off on the liquid diet at least until I meet with the NP in March. One thing I did not like about this brand of shake is that the Protein level was low (10 grams) versus the higher levels of Whey Protein Powder. Given the facts what would you do? Start liquids today, wait until you had a surgery date, do two weeks before surgery? If I stop loosing weight I might change my mind; but for now doing a liquid diet for 2-3 months just seems excessive.

    Psychotic Mother In Law

I am 31 years old, have been with my husband for 16 years(will be 17 in Sept) and we have been married for 12 years(13 in June). Ever since I started dating my husband I noticed his mom was not quite normal. He told me she had "attempted" suicide several times, she would get angry with him and kick him out of the house for something like failing to feed the pets. My husband was adopted by a very nice man who had a daughter from a previous marriage. She told me when she was living with her dad and step mom(my husband's mom) that she witnessed her get angry with her brother(my hubby) because she was helping him with his homework. She was HELPING him NOT doing it for him, his mom came in the kitchen, saw her helping him and proceeded to come back into the kitchen with a 13 inch tv and throw it at them. Their father promptly told her she would go to rehab or she could pack her things and go. My hubby was 12 at the time, his sister was 16. His mom was drinking at the time. Anyhow I am giving you a little background to get to this. Three weeks ago she called my hubby's cell phone and our oldest daughter(13) answered the phone. She first asked for me, which was odd considering she has my cell number(we only use cells, no landline), my daughter told her I wasnt home. She then asked for my hubby and my daughter told her that he was busy(he was cooking dinner), well my psycho mother in law proceeds to tell my 13 year old daughter that she is tired of this and that etc and that she is planning to kill herself and hung up on my daughter. Of course my daughter freaks out and my hubby tries to call his mother and she wont answer the phone. He isn't terribly worried about her and honestly I couldn't care less what she says she is going to do. The reason for such attitudes from us is because over the last 16 years she has "tried" to kill herself no less than 20 times(seriously). OK. Now most people who really want to kill themselves actually do it. She is what I call an attention whore. If the spot light is not on her she can not stand it and must do something to get the attention she craves. SO this last time she actually stabbed herself in the stomach in front of a police officer, was taken to the local hospital and the MENTAL HEALTH worker LET HER GO!!!! WTF!?!?!?!? So I have blocked her from emailing or sending me instant messages as well as doing the same for my children. So now she is ticked at me for this and is threatening to call her attorney(for what I am not sure) and she is threatening to send my work some info on me from 10 years ago. Does anyone else have a nutjob like this to deal with?? Oh and for those of you reading and wondering the info she is referring to is this: 10 years ago she lived with us for about 3 months and she had an account with Fingerhut and she told me I could order some stuff, so I foolishly did. THen she got mad and moved out, called the cops and told them I was ordering stuff in her name without her knowledge etc. and I had to pay for the stuff right then, which I did. I was NEVER charged with anything and I guess she thinks she is going to send that to the company I work for.

    Remind me again...

I am 12 weeks out. Hw 250 Cw 197. ... actually 12 weeks plus 10 days pre op. I was averaging 4.6lbs per week. Then 3.5 now it is slowing and I'll be thrilled with 2 lbs per week. I use mfp and log my weight under food notes so I can see what I weighed on any given day.

    Food Funeral

Please don't beat yourself up. I had so many food funerals that I gained 10 pounds from when I initially saw my surgeon in November to when I saw her again in December. Thankfully I'm doing the preop diet and have lost everything that I gained. But looking back I'm really angry at myself because the weight gain just made my goal farther away.
  16. Great to hear! keep up the good work. I have worked with a trainer in the past but prefer to just do the workouts on my own. You will learn the exercises and how to mix it up on your own. I go to Planet Fitness- only $10/month and personal training is free if you want it. I have been consistently weightlifting at least 5 days per week since late Summer/Fall of 2021 after fully recovering from gall bladder removal and I think it has made a great difference in how my clothes fit, how my arms/legs/stomach skin looks and how I feel overall.
  17. I was able to eat pudding since the 2nd day after surgery (I added unjury unflavored Protein powder too) Isopure Water frozen into popsicles is good for protein too. I am trying to keep an average of 80 grams of protein daily (WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN...it helps so much!!!) I also craved egg an tuna salad! I was able to start them both after 1 week, but opted out of the egg salad after 1st try. So, since 1 week out...tuna mixed with reg mayo and heated slightly with some shredded cheese is my friend now, as well as pureed chicken (in a can like tuna), mixed with pureed Tuscan-flavored broccoli (frozen Green Giant in a bag), and mixed with cheesy salsa. So good and has an actual flavor!! I also have marinated, baked chicken breast and chopped it super fine with scissors and mixed with some reg mayo for a chicken salad with flavor. With all that said...I feel like I'm dong something right...I had surgery 9/10, so I'm 17 days out now, have managed 3 Multivitamins, 4 Calcium, and a B12 every day since 1 week out...and as of today I have went from 310 lbs immediately before surgery to 274 as of today! 36 lbs in 17 days...YIPPEE!!! It's not easy...but soooo worth it every day! Good luck everyone!!

    Food Funeral

I hd 6 weeks between my last weigh in and my surgery date. I gained 19 pounds. Kid you not. I ate everything that was not nailed down. Honestly, I was grateful for the 4 day pre-surgery liquid diet -- I was literally sick of food! food funerals are very common. I do not recommend doing what I did, because now, despite having lost 16 pounds in 2 weeks, I am still 3 pounds higher than my last weigh in! Just do the best you can. For me, it is SO much easier to stick to a liquid diet now that I have been sleeved--- I have to remind myself when to have my soup/protein shakes on a timer-- I do not even think about food most of the day.
  19. I had one today. I went for my annual mamogram. On the paper work they ask if you have gained or lost more then 10 pounds in the last year. So naturally I put yes. When I was finally led in to the torture chamber, the technician was going over my paperwork and ask if I had lost or gained. I told her I had lost 23 pounds. She ask me how. I figured she would see my scars anyway, so I told her I had lapband surgery. She said really! She then told me she had her stomach stapled like 20 years ago, and how awful the experience was and showed me her hidious scar. She also told me a coworker died from the stomach stapling. She didn't know anything about lapband, so I told her everything I knew plus I told her about the wonderful support network of lapband talk. She said she wished it was around when she had hers. Next thing I know she was leading me out of the room back to the lockers. She hugged me and said I probably won't recognize you next time you come in. It was so sweet and special...then I realized...I just had a mamogram and didn't feel a thing!
  20. Congratulations!!!!! how wonderful with your weight loss! I see my Dr. On Tues. I am on day 10 and lost about 10 pounds it's exciting, Best of luck!!

    +4 pounds in 3 days?

No its probably just Water retention . I weighed in five days ago and weighed in this morning and I'm up almost 13 pounds !!!! I start my period next week sometime plus we was out all weekend doing things and I ate alot of high sodium foods and that sure didn't help matters any either . I can gain anywhere from 5-10 pounds, a week before my period and it wont come back off till the day I stop , and like I said high salt foods did not help matter. My eyeballs about came out of my head this morning when I saw that lol. But I know there is no way I could I put on 13 pounds of fat in five days , I would have to do some heavy duty eating during that time and even though I have no fill in my band physically I cant eat like I did before cause I would be sicker then a dog . I should have stayed off the scales I knew I was retaining water my ankles told the story lol. Nothing to worry about that is why I dont like to weight in every day . I can weigh in one day and be down a pound and then two days later be up five pounds. The foods you eat, the weather, TOM , sodium all plays a huge factor in weight gain . I retain water so bad though I can eat one day of high sodium foods and I pay the price for it for days I wanted to get some water pills from the doc especially during TOM but he said the more weight I lose the water retention wont be so bad , hope he is right .

    Pre-Op Liquid Diet Weight Loss

Thank you so much! I am praying I can shed at least 5 more in the next 10 days!
  25. Ok so my surgery was January 31, 2012 in the first two and half weeks I lost 32 pounds and have been stalled for 2 weeksish. This has caused me to be so bummed. Even through reading posts about it being normal, and doing everything right: I'm still obsessed with the scale and bummed. My NUT said I already started out with a dramatic weight loss and I'll start to equal out and lose 10 pounds a month, conservatively. However I am trying to focus on the positive. Therefore I am posting my first NSV: I HAVE A NECK!! In my wedding pictures I was at my highest weight (still had an amazing wedding). However the one thing I noticed was my head looked like it sat on my shoulders. Yuck. Last night I went out with some friends and after being tagged on Facebook (I usually dreaded) I was happy with most of the pictures and noticed my neck (: I also posted two pictures in my gallery and can see a little difference there as well. Here's to more NSVs and a healthy journey! Have a fabulous Sunday, sleevettes!
