  1. My surgeon warned me that I could feel a little depressed after surgery . Well... I’m not feeling necessarily depressed but so frustrated with everyone around me. My patience is at an all time low. I rarely fight with those at home. Typically glass 1/2 full type of girl. My grandchildren moved out 1 year ago so it’s just the 4 adults left here at home. I’m the one who has for the last 10 years been the “mommy” to all of us. I run the day to day “operations “, do all the cooking shopping etc. I’m the matriarch of my family . In general I do feel frustrated with the others on a regular but yesterday I kind of blew up... 1st yelling at them.... then crying. Holy moley !!! THATS NOT TYPICAL. Honestly I was a little justified because I wasn’t getting some of the help I needed but my delivery was definitely out of character! So yes.... we can have have some emotional upheavals . The temporary hormone changes are real!! On a positive.... today I’m one week out from sleeve & down 9 lbs. I’m getting better every day at taking all my meds. For a few days that was rough. I’m getting in my protein & my fluids. Thank you all for listening!!! 👍👍👍

    Clothing Rollercoaster

I smashed saver so I have clothes size 12 through size 16w packed away. I'm 10 day out so still wearing my 2x and 18w hoping when they get to big I'll donate and take them to Goodwill. Not sure if I will ever get back in a 12 so when I hit goal they may have to go too but I'll wait and see once I'm in a 14. I plan on purging each size as I go. And will check the thrift store for any fill in the blanks I need

  5. I’m on the Dartmouth diet to prep for surgery per order of my surgeon. The basic break down is cream of wheat, soup, protein shakes and jello/pudding. I’m on day four now and I’m just getting progressively more sick. TMI- but nauseous, gagging when eating, diarrhea, exhausted and cloudy. I’m not sure what I should do? My surgery is Thursday 8/29/19 so I have 3 more full days of this left. I’m open to experiences and suggestions.
  6. Hi guys. In 10 days I start my two week pre-op diet. I can only have protein shakes during this time. I’m a bit lost as to which one to buy. My doc says any brand will do so which ones do you recommend?
  7. Congratulations on your pending surgery. I had my GSV last Wednesday. I am 67. I always swore that I would NEVER get over 300 pounds. Three times in my life, I have lost 75 pounds on my own. But unless I maintained a rigorous exercise regiment and a super strict diet, the weight would slowly come back. Then about 18 months ago I got on the scale and weighed in at 315! That was it for me. I have 3 ruptured discs in the lumbar region of my back and so cannot walk or stand for any length of time. I began by really truly using my Fitbit. I began to keep a food diary, entering my water intake, and logging my exercise. I have a recumbent bike and started riding five to seven times a week, starting for ten minutes and then adding five minutes every two weeks until I could ride for thirty minutes. at 13 to 14 MPH. I created a playlist of high energy songs (the kind that makes your feet move). Then sitting on a chair and moving my legs and arms to the beat of the music for 30 to 60 minutes a day. It probably doesn't sound like that would work but it does. My heart rate averaged about 115 beats and often reach 150 and the swear poured off of me. I usually lifted my two pound weights for fifty times before I started chair dancing, fifteen minutes after stating my chair dancing and after I finished my chair dancing. I could not imagine myself successfully sticking to a liquid diet for two weeks but I did and I continued with my exercise program. On August 21, 2019 as I was bei8ng prepped for surgery I weighed in at 262 pounds! We were advised by my surgeon's PA-C that we would vomit at least once after the surgery. However, I HATE vomiting so I have been very careful about how quickly I ingest my continuing liquid diet. To date, I have yet had to do that which I hate. I just concentrate on eating and drinking s l o w. The nutritionist recommended Isopure unflavored protein to add to broth so I bought some (I live in a very rural area so I rely on Amazon). Isopure also has a flavored protein that you can add to water and I bought that in Mixed Berry and that has proven to make staying on the liquid diet relatively painless. Now, for a treat I found on Amazon and not only is it delicious but the nutritionist was excited when I told her about it. It is Sans Sucre Mousse mixes. They are frothy, light, sugar free and very low fat when made with skim milk. I stepped on the scale (once my fiercest foe) and as of today I am down to 257. I have never felt so confident in my ability to lose the weight and this time to keep it off. I have always eaten relatively healthy (I admit to some bad habits though) but my biggest challenge was always portion control. The surgery is helping me with that aspect of weight control but over the months that I prepared for the surgery, I have developed the habit of exercising faithfully. I do not let myself leave my bedroom until I have ridden my recumbent bike for thirty minutes at the barest minimum of exercise for the day. This is not to say, that the surgery was easy. Anyone who thinks this is a silver bullet for weight loss, has never done it. While I strive to eat and drink slowly, I still manage to go too fast and the result is NOT pleasant. The surgeon prescribed a medication to help with the cramping and nausea and I am definitely using it. Admittedly, I felt extremely tired after the surgery for about three days (however, part of that was due to the fact that I had to travel about two hundred miles home). But yesterday, I felt so energetic. I decided to not resume exercising until tomorrow (I cleared this with the surgeon). So, good luck on your surgery. Even at this early date, I am very glad that I had the surgery.
  8. Okay. Down another 1.2 pounds from Wednesday. I’m now 167.8. And that’s with 3 days zero poop. Today I gave myself a 10 hour eating window and I’m packing in the protein. As a result, it’s also a much higher calorie day (I’ll hit around 950 before all is said and done) and I’m feeling like a total glutton. It’s intentional though because I’m going to go very light over the next 2 days. Lol, I actually need a day off work to eat >900 calories in a day. I can remember sometimes that would happen in a single meal, and I sure didn’t get in over 75gm protein with those 900 calories.
  9. So today I’m upping my protein massively and I’m giving myself a 10 hour eating window 9:30am (80cal) 1/2 premier protein shake (bananas and cream) and in my morning coffee. 11:30am (210 cal) 1/2 cup cottage cheese, 8 ounces fairlife milk 3:30pm (278 cal) 1 cup of that Tuscan keto soup (no extra scoop bone broth powder) 7pm (268 cal) Italian sausage and 1 ounce kimchee. Over 75gm protein and a VERY high calorie day for me at >900 cal. I’m trying my best to switch things up because I’m working 22 hours in the next 2 days and will slip into sub 600 calorie days and a 18:6, followed by a 16:8 day. Exercise was a cardio 1.5 class followed by a flow 1.5 — each class was 50 mins
  10. I certainly can't speak to the rides but as for the stamina I would think you'd be back in action by then. I am 10 days out and just traveled about 4 hrs to Celebrate my daughters engagement and stay 2 nights, If you asked me last week I couldn't imagine being here. However we arrived and have been doing nothing but walking and bopping from place to place. You got this

I think this is whats happening to me honestly. I try the protein shakes in many flavors and I become incredibly gassy my back is killing me today I am straight up miserable! Idk I am desperate to eat something that doesnt taste like a cow smells. I never used to have this problem I looooove cottage cheese and yogurt but now it kills me. And because I ate so much broth before rhe surgery I am literally over it now. Not a great start but I am happy I did this and I know it will all pay off I just need to be able to get my protwin some other way. hw 266 sw 252 cw in progress sleeved 08/20/19

    VSG surgery scheduled for Monday

Welcome and I wish you all the best in your weight loss journey!! This has been the best decision I've made. I researched it for years before actually going through with it. My only regret is not having surgery sooner! I was more excited than nervous about surgery. The morning of surgery went by really fast, everyone involved in the surgery prep process was kind and supportive. My surgery and recovery went amazingly well. Hope yours goes as well as mine! You've got this!! 5'4" Starting weight 297 VSG on 7/31/19 Surgery wt: 266 CW 248 GW 135 Sent from my [samsung Galaxy] using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. Pudge.vsg. I’m the 29th also. Today is day 7 of 10 for the 10 day diet. Yesterday was my worst day. You was crabby and wanting real food. We can do this!!! Thursday will be here before we know it! And we will only get healthier from there!!!
  19. I didnt know you could stall so soon after surgery. I have been up .5 & down .5 this week & im 19 days post op. Was thinking it due to diet change (eating fish now). Glad to know it's a known thing. Sent from my SM-G965F using BariatricPal mobile app

    Stomach sleeper

I'm a stomach sleeper too. I actually like to flip around a lot while i'm asleep and that was impossible to do right after surgery. It was painful to move in any way let alone flip around in bed. I think it took me about 10 days to start laying on my stomach. I remember being really scared to try it because it was always so painful to move so I assumed that that position would be the worst but it turned out to be really comfortable. I started with putting a pillow under my stomach and laying on it during the day until i got over the fear that I was going to open my incisions or my pouch lol. I had no discomfort at all when I finally attempted it. I'd say take it slow and if you feel any pain at all just give it some more time before trying again. Good luck and congratulations!

    💜AUGUST 2019 CHALLENGE💜

Day 24. Post op day 8. I have not tried to engage in much strength training given being recently post OP. I try to get at least 10K steps a day walking around my home and neighborhood. It has not been hard to do. Spend time with family: We are currently having a weekend staycation at a local resort and it has been great. I have been able to hang with them while they eat all types of food and not felt awkward or particularly yearned to eat what they are eating. I brought my own liquid diet with me. My hunger monster has been quite silent and this for me is mind blowing. I've been able to withstand the allure of my all time favorites. I was very pleased to spend time with family without any angst over food!![emoji119][emoji119][emoji119][emoji119][emoji119] Kids also chose to stay with hubby and I rather than go to kids club (a first)[emoji848][emoji848]. Anyway, it's been a fun day. B sided question: Most spontaneous thing I've ever done was take 10 days off in the middle of med school ( felt like a month off studies) to go backpacking around Europe with non med school friends that were going in the middle of my school year!!! Horrible for studies but best thing I've ever done! 19 countries in 10 days[emoji5]. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. I know right....I sure hope we stay in touch, making a local buddy in a similar situation would be a real blessing. Yes I went through smartshape, a very simple process. I did all their medical requirements and tests, had a consultation, paid them and booked my date ..... literally 2 weeks ago 😁.... did you go through the bariatric program here? I considered it and heard it was like a 7 -10 yr wait for surgery 😳 so I decided to go a different route.... I fly out tomorrow morning, surgery at 730 monday, will return to my hotel on tuesday afternoon provided all is well and then stay in toronto until thursday when I fly home
  23. I bought new clothes far too often. It was just so exciting to keep getting smaller and smaller sizes! I started out wearing a size 22 and a year later I am now in 10's. I'm about 5'7", 151 lbs, 53 yrs old. My Dr and I are very happy where I'm at so I think my wardrobe is staying put where it is. I think thrift stores are a great idea at least for the transitioning sizes, although truth be told I ended up buying all my stuff new, usually at Marshall's, Target, or Kohl's, and on sale. So many clothes to choose from when you get into regular sizes! Good luck and enjoy!

    Grisly Tummy

Haven't had the surgery yet myself (in 10-11 days), but my friend who had it warned me about the same thing! She says hers does get really loud at really awkward times. I have also researched this and am reading about many others with the same issue.
