    I don't like meat

I really don't like meat or eggs. I never have. After being being sleeved I dislike meat even more. That being said I don't know how to get my protein in. Cottage Cheese and Yogurt are tolerable, but boy that gets boring. I have refried nonfat beans almost everyday, and protein shakes. I am almost 4 weeks out & starting "real" food. Any suggestions? Have any of you tried quinoa after being sleeved?
  2. It was so much less intimidating than I thought it would be! My surgeon and insurance don't require a specific amount of weight to lose aside from the two-week 1000 cal max diet right before the operation. I was terrified I would have to strictly justify everything I ate to an obsessive degree. Instead I was told to hit the 60-90g Protein target every day, sample different protein powders and shakes, to slow down eating so that a meal takes me 20-30 minutes to eat, to practice sipping Water slowly, and to start the protein first, veggies next, carbs only if you're still hungry pattern. And no meal skipping (I tend to skip breakfast). She said most people naturally start to lose weight even pre-surgery when they start these habits. I'll have a weigh-in next month but it doesn't sound like it'll be Draconian.
  3. Hope, you're lucky..my discharge papers said 2 weeks, but I had to start after about 10 days...couldn't do it anymore...my busy life just couldn't handle not driving!
  4. Congrats @@katanne ! My first appointment with the dietician is in a couple of weeks. My plan is the same as yours... I don't have to lose a specific amount of weight (outside the 2 week liquid diet), but gaining is a deal breaker. I'm also lucky the only real thing my insurance requires is phone calls with their people.

    Too few calories

Your calories are the total of the calories in your meals combined with the calories in your Protein shakes or other protein supplements. The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. So generally forget about counting calories but make sure you meet the protein, fluid and vitamin requirements. Weight loss is achieved after surgery through meal volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as Protein Shakes.

    Help me understand

Yep, left shoulder and I got it often for the first two weeks. I did the Gas-X dissolvable on the tongue strips and they helped A LOT! There is a lot of internal swelling we are dealing with as well so when you swallow, burp, hiccup, anything you can get that pain in the shoulder. I used a heating pad when I got home and that helped as well. Sent from my iPad using VST
  7. I'm only a month and a half out from surgery, and as of today I've lost 46 pounds! I had a six pound loss this week. I know I'm still very far from goal, but I just need to celebrate a little!!!

    banded on 8/25

Just take it slow and listen to your body. I couldn't guzzle water after my surgery, I just could take sips. But, each day gets better. By this time next week you won't even be able to tell you had surgery....Best of luck to you:D

I think I have found my peeps! Elsewhere on this board are some deep sinkholes of sensitivity a body could disappear into. Shee! I'm 14 days out today. Feeling good. Doing good. I had one WTF?! day -- fortunately, it was Day Two. And when the sun rose on Day Three it was over. What's for dinner?

    please help..

Good old post op gas. I got lucky after my lap band surgery, my surgeon did a really good job getting the gas out. I had almost no discomfort from gas. I had left shoulder discomfort but that was thinks to the hiatal hernia repair I had done. I lived on a heating pad for a couple of weeks, thanks to that. Nearly cooked my shoulder because I over did it. I had surgery in March of last year and I wasn't so lucky in the gas department. The gas pains were pretty uncomfortable. A couple of things that helped me were walking, windmilling my arms, and bending at the waist, side to side, then back to front, then round and round. I did it as much as I could, as often as possible, as vigorously as I could, without hurting myself to move that stubborn gas out. I had one big bubble that settled in under my rib cage on my right side and just freaking sat there for a couple of weeks. I couldn't dislodge it, for the life of me. Deep breaths, coughing, sneezing, yikes! Boy, was it a relief when I finally managed to get that damned gas bubble to disperse! Don't give up. Be persistent, you'll get rid of the pesky stuff, eventually. It's still early days, you are still healing and you will feel much better, soon.

    Another question

I fully believe that your body loses in cycles.......... the weeks you don't lose pounds you will lose inches. It takes a while for your body to catch up with itself! As for the three pounds in a few days.. could also be water.. when i don't drink enough water in a day my rings get tight and my feet swell. (and I know that the scale will reflect it too) I actually gage my water intake with how easily my ring slips around my finger.

    Another question

Thanks for the encouragement. I have been so confused about it because I haven't been eating anymore than I was to start with. Thankfully, my willpower has been incredible this far. I'm sure that I could eat more if I wanted. I'm worried that once I do start putting more calories in that my weight loss will surely stall. I hope not. When do you usually get your first fill?

    Plan B

Oh, and of course there was a pre-op diet. It was only for 4 days (because of my lower bmi) but I did it for a week to lessen my pre-surgery worries.

    Hello!

@@JamieLogical I am sorry to hear that Jamie. I hope things get better for you soon. Good thing you are still able to train for your marathon. I am supposed to be running a half marathon in Philly in Sept. but I am not sure I will be able to . I tore my meniscus a few months ago and I am having surgery to repair it on Tuesday. Recovery is 6 to 8 weeks. I don't think I will have enough time to prepare after my recovery. I am so bummed by this. I really am. I had just gotten to a point where I was comfortable running and doing well. Good luck to you though.

Im just chalking it up to my body still getting used to being 94 pounds lighter. Ive recently had a 'women exam' and everything was fine so it is what it is.

    Getting banded on 12/17/15!

@bgtribble We have almost the identical stats. I am also 5' 6" and my heaviest weight was 259 pounds. As an adult I had always maintained a healthy weight for my female frame - about 145 - and was a lifeguard, canoe trip instructor, avid backpacker... never a 'small' person but fairly 'trim' and definitely healthy. I got married and had a baby and then the weight started to creep up on me... 10 pounds heavier, 20 pounds heavier... and over the past 15 years, I ballooned up to 259. Now that I'm back in 100's again I feel I have regained my 'old' Self. I'm not at goal weight yet, however I am feeling SO much better even at this interim stage of the process 65 pounds down! Like dear Bandista above (she is a guru - listen to her!) I also love food and cooking, and am able to still enjoy beautiful food and meals out... but in smaller portions. The best thing is having the background of satiety constantly there. The "Hunger Monster" that derailed my weight loss attempts in the past is no longer there. Now I have a can of tuna & mayo or a small piece of tender steak or 5 Tbsps of egg salad and that's it. Give me three slices of roast duck, a few spears of asparagus and no starch (potatoes, rice and breads are out for me) and BOOM. I'm sated. No desire for anything more. Happy for you, jiggyjiggy120 - you are about to embark on getting control back and feeling better. It's a tremendous thing!

    Running and need advice

A little back ground ..I'm on week 5 day 1 of couch 25k, it's going great and going to do color in motion fun run feb2.. Sooooo excited. I run every other day while at home with the kiddos two days a week I work double shifts as a baggage handler for united so exercise after or before work isn't going to happen believe me I get plenty while I'm there. So finally here's the question.. I'm looking for some at home strength training wether it be a routine or a video I can do on the days I run , I realistically I have to get all my excercise in on those three days, is this feasible and what are some recommendations? I tried it yesterday doing Jillian michaels trouble zone shred about 5 hours before my run and I feel like I really struggled through because of it
  21. So, one week post-op, and I am having a hard time taking in all of the fluids AND getting my Protein numbers. Great find found on the internet - Protein 2 O beyond Water. It has 0 sugar, 2 Carbs, and 15 grams of protein in 16.9 Fluid ounces! I don't know about the other flavors, but the Lemon Splash is really good. It is so much easier going down as it isn't a thick milky shake. It was $1.59 a bottle at Target. I haven't found it cheaper any place else. Since I won't be doing more that a bottle a day, that doesn't seem too bad.

How would I know if I've streched my pouch

Remember it takes 3500 calories to gain a pound. I highly doubt at 8 weeks, you can eat this much to gain weight. It could be water weight or other variables. Track your food and follow your plan. It will get easier. This is a lifestyle change. And WLS is only a tool.

    down 5 pounds this week

Ok, I have to laugh, really really hard. I had all the fill removed from my band, because of the nausia I've been fighting, so I don't have the extra protection from over-eating. (the band is purely restrictive) I've been on a rip-roaring High and so I expected to be gaining weight. I also have been drinking Rum and light fruit beverages, becuase I wanna. I've also been eating ice cream and pasta. Yes, that's right, I've been eating pasta this week! Pasta and bread, everyday! :hungry: I'm down 5 pound this week.
