    i'm scared

Just as an FYI, my doc told me that a complete loss of restriction OR total restriction is a possible sign of a slipped band. Severe reflux often accompanies this. I'm praying it is nothing. Hang in there.
  2. Greetings everyone. I have had a long journey, I've been overweight and obese most of my life. I was 6ft1 and over 300lbs in my late teens and successfully dropped down into the 190's. Eventually I got older, got married and started working night shifts...here I am again! No health issues, but I want it to stay that way, the funny thing is, I look down and move around and still feel that I'm thin, opposite of most, pictures tell another story, haha! I joined a paid, doctor lead weight loss program in 2019 that went alright, I didn't lose much though and easily gained it back. One of the recommendations coming out of that was surgery. Where I live there is a long process for that (but it is funded). Most people only are covered for bypass though, including me. Long story short I decided to go with the Sleeve out of my own pocket. I can afford it and the bypass seemed a little too extreme to me, for my personal situation. My family had been aware of my journey and supportive until my surgery was actually booked recently after doing orientation, reading (and sharing) materials, etc. Now I have literally all my immediate family telling not to do it. My wife is upset as we have two young children and I'll be out of commission for a bit and she's extremely anxious after reading something saying 80% of people end up divorced after this, she feels she doesn't know enough too and that ones understandable. One family member told me I'm being selfish, I still don't understand that one. Another said I don't understand what I'm getting and I should get more info and see a therapist. I get that therapy brings value, but I'm always legitimately happy and in both my weight loss program and the intake for surgery the doctors said I didn't need to see a therapist (and they had them on staff). It was a little disorienting as I first stated I was looking into this a year ago and decided to go ahead with it in October to universal support. I told one colleague only and they said they didn't see why I would need that. I'm really, really, really glad I'm not on the fence about this, otherwise I might be deterred, but is it common? Have others dealt with the people around them getting the cold feet? It's funny, because I'm getting surgery, but now I find myself wondering how I can support everyone else about it April 19 is my surgery day and that's not going to change unless I'm told so by the medical practice.

  5. Some people are told it pushes the food through quicker and you become hungrier quicker and others are told it's because it takes up too much room in your tiny tummy and there is not much room left for the actual food, and therefore you get hungrier sooner. Either way, you will get hungrier sooner because of the dense Protein not staying in your stomach and you can eat more often than you should and possibly more calories than you should. So, yes, I believe this is a long term thing if you want to lose the weight and maintain the loss. When you chew the food so well before swallowing, you don't need a big gulp of drink to wash it down. I've been doing that and noticing the food actually tastes better when you take time to chew it and I'm not desperate for a drink to wash it down.

3d Week Gastric Sleeve Surgery Diet Gah

My surgeons tell me to take a bite, wait 10 minutes then take another. LOL who can do this? I can't, so what I do is take a bite wait a few minutes and take another bite. Recently, I remembered at the orientation for bariatric surgery for weight loss, the head doc at Kaiser stated, "it will take you 45 minutes to eat half a sandwhich." Doing the math because I had a tendency to eat a little too much, I divided 45 by 10 minutes and figured out that I can only take about 4.5 bites per meal. That has helped alot. So now I count bites and try to slow them down. I was always hungry for the first 8 weeks. My surgeons never told me about prilosec or nexium for the stomach acid. I received feedback from other members of our club and they suggested prilosec. Since beginning taking it, my hunger has decreased. Today I found that I continue to loose weight at a good pace. about 2 lbs since last tuesday. Love it.... Give your tummy time to register that you are full. Put your food down after taking a bite and do something, then come back to it. If you don't like cold food, then keep the food in a tortilla warmer. You might find this helpful.. Congrats! Your hungry tummy monster will adjust LOL.

  9. Will you be working with a nutritionist at your surgeons office? Have you asked your surgeon's office? I already met my 6 month supervised diet last year doing weight watchers where I lost and gained. So my 3 nutritionist sessions are for the surgeon not the insurance. However, they would have counted if I needed to use for insurance. That being said, the focus is on habits not weight loss. I've been instructed not to gain. We are working on not drinking while eating, eating 3 meals a day spaced 5 hours apart, eliminating diet coke and other bad things I consume, chewing, eating at the table, distracted eating, chewing, making meals last 30 minutes etc. It's more behavior modification than weight loss.

    Vegetarian Sleevers?

I don't know if this will make you feel better or worse but I am not a vegetarian and got in well over 100% of my recommended protein starting from day 2 after surgery . . . and still had major hair loss. I don't think protein intake has jack to do with hair loss and my surgeon agrees -- says if there were a way to avoid hair loss by eating right, then no one would lose hair. He believes its basic shock from the surgery and there really is no way to prevent it. Google "telogen effluvium weight loss surgery" and you'll see what he's talking about. With respect to protein and vegetarianism, even though I am not a vegetarian, I have no doubt I could get my protein in from vegetarian sources if I needed to. Dairy, beans, pulses, tofu, etc. are all regular parts of my diet and help with my protein intake a lot. And of course protein shakes! You'll do just fine as long as you are committed to eating protein-rich foods first and drinking shakes if needed to supplement. Good luck!

    Vegetarian Sleevers?

Hair loss is a result of hormones adjusting and trauma (surgery), happens to some and not others!

Nsv Youre Most Looking Forward To?!

I want to shop at all the trendy boutiques and stores. I also want boots to fit my calves. I want to get a cute hair cut that I can actually wear down, because right now I just get too hot and sweaty and my hair style gets messed up. My dream is to be able to fit into a Chanel suit.

    Anyone with NAFLD

I have NAFLD. I also had my gallbladder removed and a liver biopsy at the same time which showed hepatic fibrosis (scarring). This was the reason I decided to get wls. The pre-op diet shrinks your liver to make surgery safer. Any weight loss you have before surgery should help. It has been 14 months since my wls and my liver enzymes are now normal. I have lost 179 pounds total. Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app
  16. Hi! Just was wondering at what cc level people found the "green zone" and also total weight loss and in what amount of time? Thanks!!

    Cant Decide

There are many factors to consider...and only you can make your final decision. The best choice is an informed choice, so I encourage you to do your research thoroughly. Be certain that you understand all of the changes you have to commit to making for a lifetime... There are numerous medical considerations, and be certain to understand that the band is only a weight loss tool. As with other tools, you need to learn how it works, what you need to do to make it work with you, and understand what it will not do. Too many people believe that it will do the work by itself...I can tell you that I have battled daily to remain compliant with my diet to loose every pound I have to date. However, this is a healthier lifestyle, so I really have no complaint. I have no regrets for choosing to have my band surgery...though I had lost significant amounts of weight before and managed to keep it off for 25 years, one's age, medication issues and sluggish metabolism do catch up with you. I was nearly diagnosed as a Type II diabetic...and that was the deciding factor for me. This forum is an excellent place to ask questions and learn a wealth of valid information from individuals who are on their weight loss journey.
  19. I am three months out and hair is falling out like crazy! Scares me, but I do have think hair to start. Any idea when it stops?
  20. So I'm nearly a month post op, rny. My surgery was uncomplicated, as well as my recovery so far. HW was 335, SW 315 CW 304. I'd be lying if I said that I'm thrilled with my rate of weight loss since surgery, but it's consistent losses, something I haven't been able to achieve without surgery. My mind wants so badly to see 299... So I figure it's toying with me. I have lost inches, I'm in a smaller bra size already though. Adapting to eating had been surprisingly easy. It's just a fact off life of what I can/can't have. My hubby made the comment that he lost his eating buddy yesterday. I think him eating junk alone makes him uncomfortably aware of just how much junk he's eating (good!). I seem to tolerate sugars ok so far, things I've read others have dumped on (ketchup) hasn't phased me. The only thing that I regret was stealing a piece of sausage off of the kids pizza... Felt like a flaming metal ball going down...ugh! I've been having a lot of pain from one incision site, my doc said I was doing too much too soon. So I took it easy again and hope to add in exercise this week as I move on to soft foods. I'm not getting all my Water in and I won't drive myself crazy over it, I'm close though. I do need one Protein shake a day to meet my protein goal. After a walk yesterday I understand why they encourage protein after exercise, I felt dizzy and out of sorts. I'm also battling a bad cold.... Coughing makes the side pain worse though (uhh again!) I phone conference my NUT on Wednesday. There is no way I could take in the amount of food on her sample diet, I think I'm good with two meals and one snack a day.
  21. Hello, I had the gastric band out in 2017. Because of a dilated esophagus. I hated that because I really did well with it. I wanted to get the sleeve but since my bmi was low the insurance would not approve it , that's what the bariatric coordinator told me . So i went on with life but now it is really hard to get weight off and keep it off i try every day, some times i have slip ups . I am gaining my weight back, so i went to my PCM and she put a referral in for me at the same place i had my lapband put in and removed. The coordinator seem like she really didn't want to help me . I was calling ever couple of days to see if she received the referral. I told her i only had 1 comorbidity hypertension. She said she would speak with the dr to see since he had done my other surgery. He had told me in 2017 to try to keep the weight off, but if i started to gain to come back and see him I can't even get in cause she says my bmi is only 34 and i only have i comorbiditie. I have a sleep study on the 24 July to see if I have an apnea. My PCM is really trying to help me. May sound crazy but I hope I do so I can qualify I am on vacation now and I know I have gained even though I was not trying to but I knew I would. It is so hard. Any one else out there In a similar situation? Sorry for the rambling 😊
  22. Some weeks yes, most weeks no. The average is 1-2 pounds a week after the initial larger losses in the first few weeks.
  23. Hello All, Just wanted to introduce myself.... My name is Shae and I have been reading your message boards for a month or so... you all have so much helpful information and Its great to read 'first hand experiences". I am 28 years old, and live in the Bay Area, Cali. I have been overweight my entire life.. can remember being put on diets in the first grade. I did have one successful weight loss about 2 1/2 years ago and dropped over 100 lbs... but quickly regained it... the 'feeling of full' is something i have the hardest time with. So, after reading about gastric bypass and lapband, I have decided lapband is the way for me... I have almost completed my pre-op tests.. 1. abdominal ultrasound-found gallstones.. but will wait till after surgery to remove if necessary 2. echocardio-done 3. ekg-done 4. 2 nutritional consults-done 5. primary physical and letter-done 6. Overnight sleep study- next week 7. Psych eval- TBA 8. Bloodwork-next week. Because I am currently on UHC EPO, I have switched to PPO to cover the Doctor I will be using ( Dr. Mckeen in San Jose, California). So, after open enrollement this month, it will take effect Jan. 1st, 2005. I hope to be in by the end of the month! I am excited about this life change, and I think the holiday season will make the time go by quickly...but on the other hand im VERY nervous. Surgery will Scare the heck out of me, but also scared about pain after and FILLS. The whole needle thing I will HAVE to get used too. lol. Just wanted to introduce myself, and am very happy i found you all on here.. You are all such an inspiration... my heros.. hehe. I wish you all continued success! Sweetness

  25. Nothing will sabotage a perfectly good weight loss plan faster than an inner perfectionist who expects you to get everything "right," one hundred percent of the time and leaves you feeling like a failure when you (inevitably) don't. If you struggle with an inner perfectionist, here are five strategies for moving it out of your way. 1. Separate yourself from your perfectionist. YOU are not your perfectionist. However, if you’ve been applying all-or-nothing standards for a long time, you might feel like you are. Spend some time stepping back and observing your behavior. Get familiar with the perfectionistic thinking. Notice where it comes up and what the consequences are when it does. 2. Label it. Start thinking about “that unhelpful inner perfectionist” or whatever name you want to give this way of thinking that gets in your way. Acknowledge it to yourself whenever you see it—“there goes that unhelpful perfectionistic thinking again.” This is different than “I’M doing it again.” Remind yourself of tip number one. Your inner perfectionist is an it and is NOT you. It’s simply a way of thinking–which you can change. 3. Make a list of all the ways that your inner perfectionist is not helpful or the examples of how your perfectionist has made or can make things worse. Don’t forget to include the guilt and shame that usually comes with listening to an inner perfectionist (because we never measure up). 4. Create an alternate mantra. Come up with a short, sweet message that you can use when the perfectionistic thinking chimes in with “you screwed up” or “you failed” or “now you blew it.” This must be a message you believe to be true. It may be as simple as “nobody’s perfect” or “trying to be perfect is not helpful to me.” 5. Give yourself permission to encounter your perfectionist over and over. Don’t fall into a trap of expecting to be perfect in vanquishing your inner perfectionist. You’ll have success—sometimes—and sometimes you won’t feel so successful. But over time and practice, it gets easier. Really.
