    So disappointed!!!!

Remember the band is just a tool so it's not a magic bullet. It's not going to lose the weight for you so delaying it by a couple of days isn't really doing you any harm. In fact, you will probably lose more weight on your pre-op diet than you will post-op and before your first fill which can be between 4-6 weeks depending on your doctor. The more you lose before the surgery, the better off you are so look at this as an opportunity to lose a bit more before your surgery.

    Calories at 4 months

I don't focus on calories but my food tracker (I use the free part of Lose It, works great and you can even scan barcodes) does so I see what I eat. I'm only three months out and usually in the 800-900s. I lose ounces pretty much daily. Very slow weight loss but VERY steady. I eat tons of fat apparently. I don't try to but I eat full fat everything and I see my pie chart at the end of each day I'm not stopping eating fat since I am continuously losing at a steady pace. About 35 lbs down since before pre op diet. But I was a low BMI obese person.
  3. I was banded on 12/30/2009 and seem to be struggling with making the right food choices. I am not losing weight as much as I would like to. I don't eat as much as I did before being banded, but I constantly feel hungry. I am having difficulty distinguishing between physical hunger and the psychological need to eat. My husband wants to continue to eat the way we did before I had surgery which means fried foods, lots of pasta and lots of other junk. This is making it more difficult to be strong. I haven't been able to exercise much because of a ruptured ovarian cyst. I have 2 small children that I want to be able to play with. I need some realy support and encouragement. Please help!
  4. Just because you make the food for your family does not mean you have to eat the same things. I do not eat what my husband eats. Are you keeping up with your fills? If not try to do that. What about Water that is very important. Put kids in a wagon and take them for a walk. Or take a short walk when your husband can keep the kids for 30 minutes. I keep my 2 grandbabies 2 days a week about 9 hours each day. One is 3 ands one is nine months both girls and when they are gone it it hard not to just fall in the bed, but even if I do I still get up and do my exercise for the day. I work at home doing computer work all day and I sit all day. I am at home alone with all my husband's junk food and believe me he is the king of junk food and has never gained a pound in 29½ytear of marriage. Trust me it calls my name from the cabinets, “Come see me old friend I miss you, I can make you feel better". Evil food!! You just have to put yourself first, sounds selfish but you want to be healthy for your kids as they grow. I do not know if you husband is supportive or not but you have to make right choices for yourself. And you need lots of support. When I go through stages of head hunger or I want to emotional eat. I have to go very very low carb for a couple of days to kill the hunger. The less carbs you eat the less hunger you will be if it is true hunger. Head hunger you might need to see a counselor to help with that or read a few books. I have a good one I will try to find the name for you. It is a workbook. Do you go to support meeting? They are very important it is easier when you are around people going though the same thing you are. I go to 4 different ones right now. I know you have small kids and might not be able to go off a lot. But find someone in your area that has the band, invite them over or meet for coffee once a week. it will make all the difference. I have met several people on these boards who are in my area and I meet with them in one of my meetings. Post a thread and look for people in your area. They may have kids too and be looking for someone to talk to on the phone or meet somewhere I will private message you my e-mail adress and phone number if you want to talk. or private messgae me your and I will call you. Hope all this helps Cheri

    Long term banded???

Babs Thanks for your response. (Well done btw, your weight loss is fab!). It's good to read that you have no regrets and that your band is working for (with) you. As I scour the web for more and more banding info. I seem to find mostly negative posts from those who are long term banded. I was hoping the reason for that is the fact that afetr a while people only go to the support sites when things go wrong. I'm sure everyone starts out with the best of intentions - but in a strange way it's better for them to "disappear" into normality. It means this wls really works! I guess my resolution (if things go perfectly) will be to post at least once a year for the benefit of those in the research stage. ps: which band do you have? I'm trying to dcide between SAGB and Inamed LAPband
  6. Hey, I understand what you're talking about. I was banded the same day as you, and up until a couple days ago was down 17lbs (including the loss on the pre-op diet). Well I saw my first little gain yesterday (I started mushies on the 25th) and of course I freaked out, since I was used to the downward trend over the past 3 weeks!!! I KNOW that this first month is for healing, and pre-banding it sounded logical. BUT I can't help but get worried, especially since I'm feeling 100% again, that this will be just a temporary fix, and all the weight will come back. Just keep reminding youself (as I do) of what you know, how this process will go. I know I have to give myself a mental check a couple times a day. I guess this freak out session is just part of the process....it'll soon pass.

    How often are you eating?

I set my timer to eat every two hours,i eat even if i'm not hungry, because i can only eay a small amounts,i had a stall for only one week, the key to losing weight is eating so i have to remind my self, because if listen to my stomach i will never eat because i'm never hungry lol..
  8. Thanks for your responses.. you were all right. I sent my surgeon an e-mail... I thought it would get forwarded to his nurse, but he responded in an hour!! I have a great surgeon!! Anyway... he said that the restriction is vert common and due to the swelling and the residual fluid (2-3cc) that is already in the band. So that explains it... he said they could take out that fluid to make me more comfortable... what do you guys think? I don't want to mess up my weight loss because I'm worrying too much. But I also need to get in my protein and water. Also, I think I may buy gatorade to drink instead of water... I was experimenting at my house tonight, and the heavier the liquid, the easier it goes down. Anyone know why that is? Anything that is truly of water consistency is hard for me to drink, but if I make anything shake consistency, I can drink a lot more. strange.

  10. I am 5'4" and I started at 215 s I guess i was 'low' BMI so I had to self pay...I had no other health problems to get insurance to pay. I am 48 and was 46 when I got my band. I had been at least 230 at some point but I hardly wanted to get on the scale! I losy my weight kind of slowly (5-6 pounds a month when in green zone) but I never dieted or even exercised. I had a couple of very long plateaus where I thought maybe thats all I would lose (one was at 180 and the next at 155) and then I finally went (5 hour drive) and got a fill each time and that got me back to the 5-6 pounds a month. If I had it to do over I would do it in a heartbeat, even the $15K! best of luck! I wish I could have done it 20 years sooner.

    Revision from VSG to RNY

I was extremely active therefore wasnt calorie counting. However when I continued to not calorie count and became sedentary I gained 60 lbs within 3 months. I am still in PT for my weak side but I am making good progress and am about to start on a treadmill regimen. Sent from my LM-V405 using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. I had the VSG 3/2015. I lost down to 148 was my lowest. After my body completely had a nervous breakdown itself including a stroke 8/2018 I gained back up to 212. I own this completely. I went from 12,000-20,000 a day to 3000 or less steps a day because of right side weakness and repetitive falls. Before I get all the way back to my SW of 276 I am taking action!!!! So here I am, licking my wounds, moving forward. Sent from my LM-V405 using BariatricPal mobile app
  14. Tomorrow will be 4 wks that I decided to change my life for the better. So far I've been doing great. I'm down 45lbs. And I'm tolerating new foods every week. 4 week post op anniversary

    Congrats on the weight loss.
  16. Hi I just had the procedure 12/15 and things have been going great so far. Its a lot to adjust to but I'm feeling pretty positive about starting this new chapter for 2017! My question is about people's calorie and nutrient goals to maximize weight loss. I was only given a Protein goal (70grams) to hit, told to drink enough each day and warned about not eating more then a certain amount etc. But I wasn't given any thoughts about caloric numbers I should be hitting or carb or fat goals. I'm using Myfitnesspal to track everything and they use these and I don't know what I should put those figures at. Would love to know what other people where told or what they have done that has helped them lose weight and feel energetic at the same time. I want to make the most of this chance!

    how much do you eat?

A little more than 5 months out and I'm eating about a 1/2 cup regardless of the food. If I eat much more than that at a sitting, then I'm going to be very uncormfortable for about a 1/2 hours. On another post a few weeks ago I remember reading about listening to your body's queues, i.e. gurgling, belching, etc. It's your body's way of saying it's time to stop eating. I don't always listen to it, but I should. Once I started on regular foods (as tolerated), the weight loss slowed considerably. I keep my calories to as close to 1000 as possible and still get in 60-100 grams of Protein. Because of the focus on protein, the carbs stay low by default. I want to achieve "Onederland" by Memorial Day so I've been working on refocusing my food and exercise in order to get there. There is a Memorial Day challenge started so I signed up in the hope it will keep me more motivated. Good luck to you in your journey!!! It is a learning process.

    New Girl

Welcome to LBT. Congratulations on the weight loss so far. I'm a bit concerned about your saying you were feeling like you weren't getting enough nutrition earlier but glad you are taking steps to correct any deficiencies. We aren't medical experts but we are all on the same journey and are more than welcome to give our opinions.

    My journey

This will be about my journey loosing weight after having the lap band. I had it on Feb. 17th 2009. I weigh 244 and I want to get to 150. I am nervous about the whole process. I eat so much and I love food. How will I do? How do I train my brain that enough is enough? I am very sore so far and I am also hungry. I don't get my first fill for 6 weeks. I stay on a liquid diet for 2 weeks. I am hungry! lol I am sticking with it though and doing what I should.

Hi I stumbled across this forum whilst doing a search about regurgitation and coughing! I have been looking for just this type of place in vain for a while. THe post op care I get here in France is pretty minimal and I have so many questions! I am a 37 SWF who lives in south-west France. I had a gastric band fitted last August and have lost 30 kilos to date. I only started losing weight after my 3rd fill at Christmas. I have had quite a few problems with the band but I have lost lots of weight so I can't really complain. I am plateaued out at the moment but this is pretty self-enforced as I have been trying to feed myself up a bit after nearly passing out from malnutrition!!! Anyway, I am looking forward to looking up all my problems and hopefully helping some people out with theirs too. Charlotte

    Looking Like November :(

I don't blame you. I have felt like I've been in a bubble since this whole process started. I CANNOT wait for it to be over. Not only for the weight to come off but so I can stop thinking about it. My surgery is on the 14th and I cannot wait to start the liquid diet. Sooner it starts sooner it's over.

    Beginning the journey...

Hey 2muchfluff, I have UHC and I'm just starting my 6 months of supervised weight loss. My doctor she's great she tried to get UHC to approve because she has been helping me with my weight loss for months, only we missed one month last November and it has to be consecutive I think she was more heart broken then me. It's a journey and becoming healthy is our goal. Welcome!:tongue_smilie:
  25. I live at 8,500 ft and one of my jobs is at 9,500ft. My band is normally pretty tight. I went to Indiana this past weekend and the band didn't seem as tight as usual. Now that I am back home in the rockies, I am back to being tight. I would say the skiing also helped with that drop in weight. It's a good thing!
