    Lap band today!

I'm actually doing a lot better than I thought I would. I'm not as sore or miserable. I have had NO gas pain which is awesome lol. I did have an allergic reaction to the medicine they gave me so I haven't taken any medicine since the second day. I have had a bloody nose and I've been coughing up phlegm. But other than that my incisions look great! And I have very mild pain. I'm 3 days post op and I've lost 3 pounds too! I know I may gain some back during soft foods phase but I'm just excited to be losing some weight now because I've been stuck at a plateau for years.
  2. She cleared me for solids at my two week post-op. I think I'm going to go back to soft foods only for awhile.
  3. Hello, I would like us to get to know each other, so here's my story... I am 47 yrs old, Married to my wonderful husband Richard for 27 yrs now. I have two awesome sons, Jason 26 and Josh 23. My son Joshua was married last July and they are about to have his first child. The decision to have this surgery was not an easy one for me. I have diabetes, high blood pressure, high triglycerides, acid reflux, sleep apnea and side effects from the diabetes. I have seen people get diabetes complications and have their toes, feet, legs removed. Blindness is also a real possibility. I have nerve damage starting in my feet, and sighs of damage in my eyes. I want to be able to play with my grandchild and enjoy my life as I get older. So...... this is why I made the decision to have the surgery. I was on 3 different meds for my diabetes, including insulin. My surgery was 8 days ago and I am off all the diabetic meds, sleep apnea is gone, blood pressure is better. For now I still take the blood pressure med and the med for cholesterol, but am told I will be off them soon. Each day I feel better and better. I have lost 22 pounds since I saw my surgeon in May. 11 since my surgery on 6/19. I am very pleased with the improvment of my health and am told it will get better in the coming months. I would really like to hear from you. Thanks for reading my story. RanayB
  4. I am considering having my band removed. I am 53, 5'3" and now 185. I had my lap band surgery 5 years ago. I would do it again in heart beat. The day of my surgery I weighed 254lbs. I am now having stomach problems, ulcers and acid reflux. I do want my band removed because I know my stomach will feel better. I am confindent that I will continue to be active and hopfully loose more weight. I can't seem to find answers as to what I do to prepare for the surgery, what I eat right before surgery, and right after. Can I swim right away? I have my doctor appointment next week to give my decision, but I feel they want me to have mini gastric surgery. I don't think I want to mess with my stomach anymore. I hope someone can help me. Lori

  7. I'd anyone start smoking early? Like 2 weeks out? Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk
  8. You can call your insurance company and ask. I have been doing that because my surgeons office claim they were going to send the paper work over week before last then last week and they still have yet to receive it. So my surgeons office is playing with my emotions. I would call your insurance company they will be glad to tell you.
  9. Ok experienced Sleevers..... I have a few Questions.. 1) does your back and you feet really stop hurting after losing weight? 2) does exercising get easier because you actually feel lighter or is it mental motivation that gets you moving? 3) does the snoring stop? 4) does spicy foods (jalapenos, hot sauces, etc.) affect our tiny tummies?
  10. Has anyone else experienced hiccups? I have had really painful hiccups since surgery. And sometimes it feels like I have burps that are stuck. Its horrible and if anyone knows how to stop them please help! :-)

  12. Hello Friends. I am a long-time follower of the site and want to first start off by thanking all of you for your posts and insights. Here's my deal: After months of consideration and internet research, I pulled the trigger and went to a seminar here in the Bay Area for a local doctor. Due to the holidays, I cannot get in to see him until Jan 22 for a first appointment. I have a BMI of 44.1 and my insurance does cover the surgery (Anthem PPO - $3500 out of pocket). However, given all the research I've done, I would be lucky if I got a surgery date in early March if I met all of the requirements. On the other hand, I am totally open to going to Tijuana for surgery. I am in contact with both Dr. Garcia and Dr. Kelly's offices and could get sleeved as early as the first week of January. The price difference would be ~$1000 plus I will have to coordinate aftercare w/ my PCP. I am 100% sure that this is the right thing for me after being obese for the last 21 years, but now I am getting antsy. I'm home alone for the holidays so I think this would be the perfect time to do my 2-week pre-surgery diet. What do you guys think? Should I go for it or am I being too hasty?

    Update!

My story is similar to yours. I was sleeved on Aug 27 weight that day was 247. Two weeks out I'm at 223. I've been at this weight now for three days. I struggle to get my water in. I'm just moving into the purred stage and doing very well. I haven't been sick at all. Im disappointed that I seem to have stalled already. I meet with my nut tomorrow, looking forward to that. Mostly I'm scared that I want loose as much weight as I need to. I'm not sure where this fear comes from but I think it's from years of dieting and regaining. Good luck to you and me:)

    Thanksgiving Blues

I started my 2 week liquid pre-op on Monday the 25th... so I sat out on the porch while everyone ate...needless to say I felt very depressed. Yes i had the option to be a no show. However, I thought to myself I need to confront these real world situations now. So, I understand the feeling like an outsider. My husband did the right thing and told me that everything was not that great and too greasy and I would have hated it anyway lol. My family felt guilty but I had to reassure them all that they shouldn't apologize for my decision to make this life change. I assured them that doing this and sacraficing a gut busting meal meant that I'd have that many more holidays with them as a happier healthier me. I think since I am the only one in my family who is overweight it's very hard for them to understand but none the less they all support me. Also, it was just nice to be with my whole family under one roof and have the day off of work lol.
  15. Hey all! I got my sleeve 9 months ago. I am a 25 year old teacher in New Jersey. Im down 5 sizes! I have many clothes- more than 3 dozen items of clothing size 12-18 but they no longer fit! I'm selling these so I can buy ones that fit now! I was a size 16 for the longest so most clothes are in that range but also many items are smaller or larger anywhere from a 12 to an 18. All clothes are in great condition, CLEAN, cute & in-fashion and many professional items as well! Check out my post if your needing transitional clothes for a great deal! Week 3 Side pain

I was banded on october 13th and had a very shar pain under my left ribs. Almost hurt to breath. Went to my surgeon and he said that he kind of tacked the tubing in place under there and it nay be causing some rubbing/inflammation and it should go away shortly. Yep 3 1/2 days later and it was better. Maybe that could be similar to yours? Hope it goes away soon.

    8 days post op

@@sammywammy Thank you! And yes, round the clock ice packs laying on my arms. The worst is at night. My poor hubby literally went to 5 different Walgreens here in WI and bought them out of the one time use packs for me on 3 different occasions. Those worked very well but did not last long. Then he bought these two cryo ice packs. You freeze them and they stay cold for 8 hours so they say. Honestly it's really about 4 hours but they were fantastic. He also bought me every itch cream they had! LOL. None of it worked. The only other thing that definately helped what Young living peppermint essential oil. I rubbed on my arms but of course not on the incisions. That takes the itch away for a little while. It has only been the last two days that I have been able to go without ice and I think it is because I switched to a compression garment that is very very tight on my arms. When you compress them they feel better. I really hope you stop itching soon.

    Why Are We So Impatient?

I saw this topic and started laughing!!! I used to weigh myself several times a day and when I wasn't dropping pounds, I was devestated daily!!!.. I'm learning to enjoy the journey and not be so anxious!! The weight is going to come off... it will.. we are losing inches and pounds of fat that we will NEVER see again.. The 1-3 lbs of fluctuation are usually Water (in my experience) and totally depend on if I'm watching my sodium and sugar intake... We are going to get to our goals... the question is, will we enjoy the journey or not.. I choose to enjoy each moment...even the ones that are not so good...

    Why Are We So Impatient?

Lol I can relate! Your SO there and it's what we wished for and it's happening and we just want to get there. I'm the same way at 190 hitting 189 lol. I got there then gained 3 pounds and now I'm back at 190. I learned my lesson on patience this way lol, I don't mind what weight I am as long as it's going DOWN You got this! Oh I weigh at least every Wednesday or if I forget every 5-7 days. Weight fluctuates all the time so after I use the restroom in the AM is the only time I check. Have a family member take away the scale so it's out of sight out of mind.

    What am I feeling?

Thank you SO much! So it may come and go? I have only ever had 1 fill of 3 cc, I skipped my last one because I get full on so little. I will talk to my doctor about maybe skipping the next one too. Sucks though, the first 90 days are free, after that I gotta pay outta pocket. Thanks again!
