    Curves?

I had belong to Curves for one year and for myself I had no success. I went 3 times a week and did not lose any weight even while trying to diet. I am getting ready to join planet fitness here, they have $1 sign up and $10 a month which includes unlimited time with a trainer. Hours are better for me to get to them. Good Luck, it may work for you.

    I feel hungry

I believe that some of us have true hunger. I started getting hungry on day 10. I'm bummed I'm not 1 of the lucky ones that don't feel hunger. I also don't believe its acid, as some suggest. I take a PPI 2x a day and I've been feeling hunger for 46 yrs, I know what it feels like. Some of us r lucky, some aren't. It doesn't take much to satiate me but then I'm hungry 90 mins later. Thank God I can only eat so little when I do eat...

    Ready For The Journey

I ha e a question for someone who has been through the approval process. My surgeon's office sent in my info last week on 10/04. I got up the courage to call the insurance office this morning and they said they received all the info and that it was up for review. When I got home today there was a letter from the ins. Company saying that they were lacking info. It was dated 10/04. Is this normal? Do u think they are lacking the info like the letter says or is this a formality? Or should I trust the ins. Rep I talked to this morning? Help! I am on pins and needles. I want this so bad!

1 week out, down 9 lbs., Very weak!

In my experience this is typical. I felt good but week for a couple of weeks. I have low blood pressure and heart rate so my body forced me horizontal a lot. I’m 20 days out and just now feeling stronger. Make sure you’re hitting your fluid goal every day and then your protein. I had to work up to my protein a bit. Protein water helped me because I have a hard time drinking shakes. You’re healing from surgery. It takes a lot of energy for your body to do that. I had rapid weight loss in the first 10 days because of it.

    Food Question (how I've eaten)

fat free food has a lot of sugar... they replace the fat with sugar..look at all labels.. my nutritionists suggest we eat 10% protein ratio to calories.. in other words if it's 120 calories you should have 12 gms protein... of course after banding you should not drink soda of any kind diet or otherwise.. like steph and maddysgram said eating protein is the key..

    Lots Of Questions!!

I felt groggy but nurses were there to talk to me and make sure I was ok, they check your vitals to maintain you. I felt sore and tummy incisions sore but I had steri strips so I couldn't see incisions. As I was wheeled to a room they kept oxygen on me because I was fairly low. They want that oxygen to go up before releasing you. I was allowed to drink warm water in sips and small souffle style cups of protein drink. I had to get up later and walk. You will have compression things on your legs to help prevent blood clots. You need to walk too. It wasn't a bad experience, I was just super tired. Went in at morning but didn't go hone til 10:00 at night.

    Nervous about revision

I'm sorry for all you have been going through. I also have a sliding haital hernia, by the way. Makes it possible to eat well some days and some other days, I can't get anything down. Since you had a hernia before the sleeve and it is back now, if repaired again without converting to the bypass, according to my surgery, the hernia will likely return in 3-5 years, unless your diaphragm is supported with a mesh filter. Making the decision to have any WLS is difficult enough, let alone having to decide on a revision. It really comes down to quality of life, from what I've experienced and heard in support group for months now. If you feel you can manage your reflux well enough with medication, then maybe surgery is not worth the risk but acid reflux could lead to other things down the line... In my case, there is a plethora of reasons for revision, so that in a way, has made it easier to decide (scheduled for 9/9/19). Also, regarding your main concern (dumping), I actually have that now with the sleeve (maybe 3-4 times a month). It happens when I make poor choices (high sugar or high fat). Yes, it's more likely to happen with the bypass, but I think managing our intake regardless of surgery type is key to preventing uncomfortable dumping situations. I'll have surgery just 10 days before you, so if you'd like, let's keep in touch and I'll let you know how it goes! I am most likely to have an open surgery (surgeon will try laparoscopic first) due to an obstruction in my sleeve, ulcers, and scar tissue buildup being 7+ years out, so my recovery may be a bit different/lengthy.

    SCALES friend or foe?

Same here. I can hardly believe it but the scale has become a good friend and I actually obsess about my weight loss *less* because I weigh every day. When I never weighed myself, I could gain five or ten pounds, without realizing it, so that option is definitely not for me. I've said it once, and I'll say it again, I am never ever EVER going let my weight creep up on me again without being fully aware of it. One of the most horrifying moments of my life was when I stepped on a scale last year, thinking I'd gained 10 pounds, only to discover it was actually 50 pounds. NEVER AGAIN. When I weighed myself once a week or once a month, there was such a tremendous buildup that unless I lost a good amount of weight, I'd feel rotten, give up, and open a box of twinkies. I'd try all month to be good, only to discover I'd lost two measly pounds! On the flip side, I often find myself eating crap the first half of the week/month, and promising myself I'd diet to make up for it before it was time to get on the scale. Not healthy. Now I weigh myself every day and helps keep me sane. I don't expect to see a major loss, so I'm not disappointed when I'm down 0.02 pounds. And when I gain, it's not so horrible because I can get right back on track. And sometimes that gain is just my body doing its thing. If I get on the scale this morning and I've gained a pound, it's okay. (Well, not *okay*) I can deal with it because I know I'm not eating enough to gain weight so it's probably bloat or TOM or something. Once I was able to stop obsessing about my weight (and I have NO idea how that happened) I was able to use the scale as a tool and nothing more.

    Showers and work

I showered two days post surgery in the hospital but that was because I had a little too much narcotic and some nausea problems the first 48 hours. I took six weeks off and it was the best thing I could have done. If you have a desk job I would say 2-3 weeks. If you can do 3 weeks I would you just feel better by then. You will have lifting restrictions first two weeks nothing more then 10 pounds and no more then 30 in a month. I am a RN and lift patients so I really needed the 6 weeks and by the time I returned to work I was eating regular food, had the vitamin and water thing down pat.
  11. Every plan is different with the diet plan. My surgeon doesn't require a liquid pre-op diet unless I weighed over 400lbs. From what I've seen - most require one for 10-30 days pre-op. Those are great questions to ask your nutritionist. Keeping a journal is a great idea!

    7 months "slow loser"

    You are making tremendous progress. Keep thinking positive about it even when you don't feel positive. VSG 10/11/17 HW = 360 SW = 292 GW #1 = 220 3/7/18 Final GW #2 = 210 (6'5") [emoji256]
  13. I am 6 days post op. Feeling alright. having tons of burps and LOTS of rumbling gas pains. My kids can hear it ac-crossed the room. It is rather uncomfortable as well. Haven't heard very many people talking about soreness at the incision sight, so I am eager to hear others journey and stories! Of course as everyone else has mentioned getting the 64+ ounces of Water on top of your Protein intake has been SUPER hard, but I am hopeful that each day will get easier! I can feel each sip or swallow gurgling ALL the way into my tummy. Just feels YUCK! How about walking?? I was thinking of getting on the treadmill with my husband at my side and SLOWLY walking for 10-15 minutes. Think this will help with the gas? Anyone had problems with like beef and chicken broth making them more gassy? Thanks Everyone!

    post-op ..home care

My surgery is scheduled for May 10 and is done as an outpatient. I have to be at the hospital at 5:15 am and have been told that I'll be home by noon. My friend had it done by the same doctor and she took the whole week off but was fine on her own the 2nd day. I am only taking 3 days off from work, so I'm hoping that I do as well. Good luck...

    100 calorie cupcake

Biggest Loser season 10 week 4 recap: Cupcake temptation - National weight loss | Examiner.com
  16. Hello all, My surgery date was January 6, and I am down 53 lbs. I can fit into some size 8 pants, but mostly 10s, and I am wearing a SMALL top! That makes me so happy. I still can't believe this is where I am. The weight loss has definitely slowed down but it is still coming off and that's what counts! Like someone else mentioned, I think it is interesting that we are all basically at the same amount lost after 5 months.
  17. It wasn't until my 3rd fill I felt the band was helping @ all....2 wks later when I got my fourth fill I FINALLY have restriction and I have to eat small portions & small bites....It is really hard, but when you the right amount you will be able to tell! Promise my total is 7.0 in a 10 cc band
  18. Im 10 months post op,,100 lbs down.and would do it again a million times over No Regrets
  19. I have posted this elsewhere and got several replies - none encouraging - so I will try here: I want the lap band removed (placed in 2008 by different surgeon) but I am still struggling with the decision to get the sleeve. Ultimately I know the decision is mine and I have to do what I think is right but I'd like some practical (not philosophical) advice. To me the main purpose of any WSL should be to improve one's quality of life. If losing weight does that - great. If your medical conditions improve - great. If you can do things you couldn't do before - great. And finally - if you look and feel better - great. My band is unfilled now and I can eat most anything. It is a crap shoot though as to when I get stuck or feel very uncomfortable and need to make myself throw up. I also get left shoulder pain. I was diagnosed with GERD many years ago and have been on nexium for about 10 years - so I have no heartburn or symptoms of GERD. During this time I have slept elevated. At age 64 I have chronic back pain and arthritis. Tylenol is not effective. My weight doesn't keep me from doing anything - more so the back pain and arthritis (neither of which improved with my weight loss with the band). So that brings me to my dilemma: I am at a BMI of 35 and the surgeon says I can expect to lose about 45 pounds. And I won't be able to take NSAIDS for life to treat my pain. I have also read that about 1/3 of those who didn't have acid reflux develop it after the sleeve. I have also heard the word "stuck" and vomiting and sliming with referral to the sleeve. Then there are all the foods (even healthy ones) that one cannot eat after the sleeve and many posts about problems with foods - getting enough Protein, etc... So, I guess what I am trying to decide is if the sleeve will improve the quality of my life or create problems I don't have now without benefits to my medical conditions (that's asking a lot for 45 pounds). Any advice - especially from those who didn't have a lot of weigh to lose?

    Richmond bandster

Hey Y'all, I am a new richmond bander. I had my surgery on 8/21 (5 wks ago) and I lost 10 lbs but I think I have gained it all back bc I have had no restriction the last couple of weeks. I am not in that strong weight loss mindset yet. I am going for my 1st fill tomorrow and am hoping for some restriction. It looks like you guys are @ 5 months out. Have you found your "sweet spot" yet on the fills?
  21. I think w/ the larger size bands because they hold more cc's they can be more precisely adjusted on fills. For example when honing in on the sweetspot - adjustments can be .2 cc's and on a 10 cc band that is a very small increment. You would need to do less than .1 cc to have a similar effect on a 4 cc band.
  22. Hi Cindy, I don't have a gazelle, but I think it's like an elliptical is that right? I have done Zumba before I will tell you that doing that cardio work out will help you burn mega calories if you put your full effort into it. For me I find the classes (where people are watching me...ahhhh) to be a little more motivational for me to put my full effort in. When I'm at home I tend to slack a bit, and relax my form and my steps a bit. There are also some videos in the Zumba series that I think focus on toning and sculpting as well...I have not tried them. I confess I have the whole box set along with the hand weights but I have yet to use it. I also have not been on the elliptical machines here at the office gym mostly because I am so short and they kind of scare me a bit. The one time I got up on the machine it was a fairly intense work out! It was pre-band and I was about 60 pounds heavier then now...so perhaps I will try it again. Most of the gym rats that I work with here Swear by those machines and are very upset if they are unable to get there in time to nab one of them for their work outs. We have 6....and they are always moving in there with someone doing a work out. Maybe this afternoon when I go, after my walk I'll give it a shot if only for 10 minutes...you have inspired me to shake it up.

    Made my consultation appointment

Thanks to my buddy Sheila, I change my Dr. choice to Dr. Madan. I have my first appointment on February 16th. I'm excited about it! I have so many questions however, I'm so grateful this board is available. My family has mixed emotions about it. They are worried about the after affects and feel this is a method of starvation. I disagree. It is because I have lost wait before with adipex, phentamine (sp?), over the counters and such to loose the weight, however, it comes back. I'm tired of yo yo dieting. I'm a health food nut! But I feel this is a "fat gene" I can't be rid of on my own. There's nothing wrong with a little help to permanent lifestyle change. I have a 4 daughters and one of them (10 year old) is obese. I have to make these changes for her as well. I want to be able to have a good time with them in life. I want to gain control of my menstral cycle again. I want to look great at fourty and ready for fourty more!

    No Support From Family

Please don't let negative people destroy your healthy intentions! I am 64 with 10 Grandkids and wish I would not of waited this long! I am only 2 1/2 weeks post op from my By pass... Not as bad as I feared but I now only take 20 units of insulin instead of 340! ( type 1 ) off BP meds ( had triple by pass in 2010) and GERD so intense that it damaged my left lung( chronic cough) Rheumatoid issues and knee surgeries.. What else did I need to deal with before I found my treatment plan? I am now doing and feeling soooo much better as these health issues disappear and this with only losing 26#.. Can't imagine when I have the last 65 off! Do what you need to do for yourself! I walked away immediately from ANYONE that dared to say things like your hearing!! Don't they know that only lays guilt on you? I just said " thanks for your caring concerns" and under my breathe said " a.. Hole". Keep us updated! Don't read blogs about rare complications until your past the chance.. Not to negate the need to know the risk but this is very rare! It could of scared me into just returning to weight watchers for the millionth time! ;-(. Dyan from Ohio
