Not telling anyone. What do you say?

I was sleeved 3 1/2 years ago, and I only told my daughter. I'm going to get a revision in a few months and I think I'll tell the rest of my family about it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. Hi Sarahwood26, I had Dr. Tersigini also. I had my RNY on July 2, 2013. Yes, he is an excellent Surgeon but I found him lacking in bedside manners. He also did my hubby's failed revision from Lap Band to RNY. He was so sick and almost died. He developed Abscesses and was so sick for 9 months, 3 of which he doesn't even remember!! Dr. Tersignini dropped him in the middle of everything!! Luckily, our PCP had been following what was going on and pulled a favor in from his friend to do his surgery to put the Wound Vac in. Dr. Tersigini called us the "PROBLEM CHILDREN'. I really liked his office personnel and his PC. We both stopped going to him. But not before my hubby went back to try again (yes he stll was going to let him do the RNY) but was told that he wasn't going to do his surgery. We both go to OHSU now. I hope everything works out for you. I just wanted to let you know how it all went down for us. BTW I had problems with Strictures that is why he called me a problem child. Which is no reflection on me, no one knows who will have problems.
  3. @@Hammer_Down As you said, public board where everyone can post opinions... even if it is outrage. Perhaps this topic interested some because they had a revision. We're here to share thoughts, and they shared theirs. We are all so different and that's what makes reading these threads so interesting.
  4. I'm not a year out yet, from my revision, I have had all 3 Bariatric surgeries, in the last 11 years, do to complications, I am now anemic and was told that I will need an iron infusion and I also give myself a b12 shot every 2 weeks, how did you feel after the infusion ?
  5. Hi, I wanted to ask those who have lost a lot of weight of they experienced sagging belly, arms and legs after? My Highest was 255 as of 7/2013. Had Band and Not Much Success. Had Revision from Band to Sleeve 11/16 I weighed 231 day of surgery. Today I weigh 227. One main concern is the state my arms and legs will be after I loss more weigh or reach my goal. I plan on exercising once my soreness is gone. But would like to know what others exercised after losing weight in regards to their belly, arms and legs? And I understand everyone is different, but just what like to hear some store stories. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App

    Bypass or sleeve?

If you have problems with really bad GERD and acid reflux I would go with the bypass. Also I know quite of few people with sleeve who have gained all there weight back, however I also know quite a few people who have gained weight with the bypass but only 15-30lbs back which is not much compare to the sleeve!! And I have seen sleepers revise to the RNY bypass. I just had RNY bypass done yesterday! It's painful but well worth it!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Just got revision from sleeve to bypass!

Yes. I revised from VSG to RNY on 7/1 to resolve my severe acid reflux that began after my sleeve surgery Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. It is the surgery fluids, swelling etc. That is pretty normal. You will drop. I eventually dropped. Warning I had a stall at week 3 as well. Revisions don't typically drop as quickly as first timers. I'm at around 7 weeks post op now and down around 26lbs from surgery weight.
  9. I had a revision from band to sleeve on 10/17. Recovery has been very smooth since I have already had experience with the full liquids diet and transitioning to soft foods. I get the same "soft sign" to stop eating as I did with the band, a hiccup. Haven't vomited or been nausested at all. I chew my food to smithereens! I haven't had any reflux and continue on carafate and prilosec. No problems getting about 70 Gm of Protein in with one Protein shake and the foods I consume. Have lost 27# since my pre-op diet and am at 184 # now, 4 weeks out. I think my weight loss will be much better with the sleeve than with the band, and no more fills and unfilled! I'm so glad I made the conversion! I was having reflux at night and aspirating with the band, couldn't have much fill in it, therefore no restriction. Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App
  10. I'd like to know what I can expect in the weeks and months to come after my surgery which was on 11/14/16. Can anyone who had this same procedure give me some possible insight. Thank-You Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App
  11. I had revision from bad to sleeve on 11/14/16 Since then I've ONLY lost 2.6 lbs. even though I have not been taking in much of anything. And I GRATEFUL for that lost, just don't understand why it's not more. Also, I am Extremely Bloated, which also restricts my intake. Can anyone explain? Goal weight?

I reached my first goal weight in 10 months. But then I revised it. I never dreamed I would lose that much so quickly, so I didn't realize I would need a "phase 2" goal weight. I think that's pretty common though.

    The Losing Battle

Julie I think you are right ... The revision talk is all I see ... I lost 40 lbs and creeped 20 back since 2008. I'm currently getting mild gerd symptoms .. But it's because I am eating around the band and not excising like I should be. I wonder if the band has slipped. But I can't go through another surgery. I have failed my band - SUPPORT GROUP

I did self pay to get rid of my band and revise to rny. Best thing I ever did. Can't believe I lived like i did for as long as I did.
  16. I'm in the process of booking my sleeve to bypass revision with Dr Garcia. He did my sleeve in April 2, 2013. I hit my lowest weight at 157 and then gained back and now at 190 again. My only regret is that I didn't go with the RNY bypass the first time around. I have horrible gerd (common with the sleeve for some) and little restriction. Starting weight was 240 before sleeve surgery. Booking around Jan of Feb 2017. Reach out if anyone going to be there then!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  17. 1. I lost 72 pounds initially and had regained 37 before I started the pre op diet. 2. I had band removal and sleeve revision done in one surgery. I had started having swallowing issues last December. There wasn't much time from when I was told that my band had failed until revision surgery. Just a few months. 3. Only lost 5 lbs. on pre op diet on a four shake/one small meal plan (800-1000 calories) 4. I'm five weeks post op and have lost 25 lbs total, 20 since revision. Date is Set! Bye-Bye Bandie.

MAN O MIGHTY you have had your share of it for sure!! My hubby had the Band for 13 years, they punctured it during his fill. Back to surgery he went. Now, he did lose 100#'s with his band. But his beginning weight was 520#'s. Now I'm not saying it was all from the band at that time. Fast forward to 2012ish he could not hold down even Water. He is a VETERAN so he went to the VA who sent him to a Bariatric Surgeon 2 hours from home. So in Sept they had planned to remove his band and his gallbladder, due to gallstones. Then revise him to a RNY. (which I had done July 2, 2013 and I have been very successful with mine) His band had eroded into his liver so they couldn't do the RNY. But told him that in 3 months they would finish the RNY. He developed abscesses and was so deathly sick for 9 months, 3 of which he doesn't even remember!! Oh course the Surgeon wouldn't do his surgery after all. He went to Portland, Oregon to an awesome Bariatric Center. By this time we found out that he has Kidney Cancer and they can't do anything for it until he loses 150#'s. So last June, we went to Juarez, Mexico. He went for the RNY but due to all of his past surgery's and his messed up band, his whole right side was solid scar tissue so he ended ugetting the Sleeve. He has lost 60#'s but he just can't fight the head hunger. The saddest part of all of this, was the Surgeon that talked him into the Band said he wasn't strong enough for the RNY. That man was so very strong and had just retired from his job!! I wish we al had a crystal ball back then it sure would have helped him out!! Now I didn't tell you all of this to scare you, I just wanted to vent AGAIN and to make sure that if you decide to go t0o Mexico for WLS please don't go thru BeLiteWeight. I have sense heard of many others having AWESOME AMAZING surgery's in Mexico just not where we went. It sure is much cheaper than the US but if we knew all about JUarez we sure woud have changed. The other sad thing is he has insureance that would pay for WLS, but he couldn't lose the amount of weight they wanted him to and get his A1C (diabetes 3 month of Blood Sugars) down to a 7 or 8. Good Luck and I look forward to following your post and watching you get healthy!! Thank you for listening.

    Date is Set! Bye-Bye Bandie.

There are less expensive options if money is an issue. I considered Mexico briefly but settled on Montreal. The whole thing was 23k canadian which is probably 17k Usd. It included removal and revision. I went with the bypass, but I think lots of people end up with the sleeve due to scar tissue. He was able to do it all at once. He indicated that in the case of an erosion, it would have to be 2-stage (probably 2 costs). My band stopped working properly after my pregnancy and eventually stopped holding a fill at all. I used to have to take off my bra to eat. Now I'm wearing underwire again!! Woohoo!
  20. Hm just saw my third post on this site today re the band revision where the person indicates the band broke after pregnancy. That is when mine stoped functioning properly before it eventually broke. She had it happen twice! 2 bands broke, one after each pregnancy. She is now getting a revision. Wonder if that is a thing?
  21. I was banded in 2007; it worked lovely for me, I lost almost everything I wanted in 1 year -- then I got pregnant & it broke, gained it all back, had a baby, revised band -- lost it all again, got pregnant again & it broke again -- gained it all back again, had a baby, revised band. Worked again, but slower... broke again.. gained it back... this has continued on and on.. I have had a total of 2 replacements & 6 revisions. The last revision didn't take, I don't feel the same as I use to, and that revision was early 2015. This is between 2 surgeons. Back to my original 2007 pre-op weight, my band has been bothering me... Found out it is slipped & has to go. They had to move my port from belly, chest, belly... port has flipped 4 times... port disconnected once... tubing broke once... and now slipped. Keep in mind, since day 1 I am self-pay, so I could have bought a house by now with all I have paid. Doctor said we either revise the band again, remove it, or convert it. I refuse to revise the band again, I hate the booger at this point. It will be $9k to remove it -- $22k to revise it to a sleeve. I am too afraid of GP, even after all this time as a bariatric patient. In 2012 I wanted to convert to the sleeve, but the price difference was too much to justify everytime I had to go under the knife (if I only knew how many more surgeries I'd be paying for since then because of the band!!). This time, I decided -- remove it, and be done. When I can eat 'normal' again for the first time in years, I'll work on eating things like fruit, veggies & salads -- which I can't eat now. I thought a little more & talked with family, and we've all decided I should just take out a 2nd mortgage and bite the bullet, because I'm not healthy anymore and would very much like to be, and if I decided later on I want the sleeve, it's going to be another 20k+ the 9k I pay now. So, I have it all scheduled now. Surgery first week of January 2017 (for tax purposes, I asked to wait until the new year). I've been absent from the forum for years, feeling that I have nothing to contribute as a lap-band failure, and the great friendships I made through this forum, I talk to all the time. But I am back, now that I am going to be a 'newbie' in the sleeve world. I am very excited now that I've gotten over the initial shock of how much money I'm going to be shelling out..... again. Here's to my new success, and good riddance to the band!!!!
  22. My sister in law is a great example of this..... She went down to Mex about 9 years ago and had the band placed. She did fine at first... Lost some weight, but then stopped and started gaining it back. So she went to a dr. in NOLA that said she had a hernia (not sure what that had to do with it) but that he could see some issues with her band and that it was too small for her and would replace it when he did the surgery. And so he did... he placed a New band and again... it worked for a while and then stopped. By then i had my band placed Nov. 2009 and was have great success (still have it and still, knock wood, keeping weight off). So now i know how the band works and how to eat... blah blah blah.... and i noticed that she would eat chips, candy, ice cream... Instead of "food". So i ask, she said it was the only thing she could keep down... So when we did get together she would complain about her band not working. I suggested she go see my dr and see if he could help her. So she did and when he told her nothing was wrong with the band and that she need to see a PHY about her eating habits and underlying issues with food... Well that didn't go over and she said he was a quack and never went back..... Fast forward to two-ish years ago... she found a dr. willing to remove her band and do GB... This time was better, she lost and lost fast... had all kinds of PS for the skin... life was good for her..... THEN, it started happening again.... Yes she has stated gaining the weight back again.... So that's Three WLS for her.... I told my brother that it would happen again when i saw her eating... and sure nuff i was right. I read about many of the issues with the lap band while I was intially researching WLS. It seems that some bands were made of substandard materials, prone to corrosion or improperly fitted to begin with. In those cases, i can understand not wanting to have something literally rusting or corroding on my insides. As for the rest of it, I'm inclined to agree. I saw a post from a lap band to sleeve revision patient who has regained the weight and is now trying to qualify for a bypass. Personally, I think it would be malpractice to continue to operate on someone who obviously has an underlying issue that surgery will not address. It might not be the answer that is popular, but all of the procedures work. Not following the diet is the part that doesnt work. Huat eaeloer today there was someone inquiring about revision, and asking about eating mashed potatoes on liquids. I'm deff not saying that the band doesn't have it problems... of course it does. But for me, i think a lot of it is user error. If you don't follow the rules it won't work no matter what. I learned this a couple years ago when i fell off the wagon and started eating the slider foods... but when i couldn't fit into my jeans... I looked with in and saw what I... was doing. Not the band... Me, the band wan't making me by chip and ice cream.. I was. Hopped back on the wagon, lost the 20 and 15 more. My friend Tami had the sleeve a year before my LB and has gained most of her weight back...Friend Jenny had the GB in 1999 and has gain at least 50lbs back. It happens... sometimes i think we all get a little comfortable and lose site of who we are and where we are in life and it just gets away from us... Do i support the revision for "actual" complications... YES.... But, sometimes it's so much easier to blame things and others for our failures instead of looking with in and taking ownership of our actions. In some cases i think the dr's are too willing to just go onto the next surgery and in some cases the next.... All about the dollar in some cases.... which ever the case, i wish everyone continued success and always remember..... What you put into it, is what you get out of it....
  23. 1) No, I kept the majority of the weight I lost off. I think I gained about a fourth of what I lost in total. The first 3 or 4 days after the unfill, I gained 17 lbs of just Water alone. Bleh. My average calories was similar to what it's been it's for 7 years (~1200 to 1500 calories). I was told this was normal due to being malnourished and dehydrated by having a too tight band for too long. 2) I had the band removal to sleeve in one step surgery. I was still in onederland when they suggested that I get a revision. They unfilled me that day. I remained unfilled for several months to let my esophagus and stomach rest before the surgery, which was done as an outpatient. (Easy recovery, btw) 3) Not much lost during 3 weeks pre-op, for the same reason I gained some of my weight back. My body was still adjusting and hung onto everything. Even on 800 cal pre-op, my body wouldn't budge! grrrr 4) 11 weeks post op revision: 36 lbs. lost
  24. I know that you want advice on how to get your revision. But have you really sat down and done the test on your sleeve - solid Protein only - to see how strong your restriction still is? I'm not judging you. I've seen a lot of people here over the years who say they never lost hunger, or who struggled immensely because they underestimated the head vs. stomach side of the game. It's no joke. We all know how damn hard this is, what a challenge life is post op, and the surgery really is only a tool. You hear that pre-op but don't understand until after. I'm more than six years out and can still lose weight. Without knowing specifics, it's my guess that most likely, you don't need a revision. You probably could still lose. If you still have restriction enough on a few ounces of solid protein to feel full, your sleeve works. That means it's a head and willpower game. And that's hard. But you know that, and you already know the rules. I wish you luck. I had a child post op. I've gained and lost. Now, if you're NOT feeling restriction, go get a barium swallow/upper gi. Quickest way to see what's up. Cheri I wanted to add that regain freaking happens, hon. Don't feel bad. Don't. I'm not trying to beat you up. I just don't want you to assume that you need another surgery to fix it. Pursue it if you feel you need to, but remember that you already had one. You can do this. You're tough and recovered once, lost weight once. You CAN do it again. Good luck. Really. Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App
  25. He will consult with me regarding nutrition but not regarding a revision. His representative said they will only do revisions if you live in Dallas. Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App I'm willing to bet they didn't disclose that little tidbit when they were signing you up for self pay surgery either! I'm sorry, that sucks. Have you tried any of the other Dallas surgeons? I know you are out of state, but we have lower prices here than many places. I used Nicholson Clinic for my sleeve (not a revision). I know they do revisions, maybe check with them? Ps You have every right to pursue this with medical professionals. Some of the newly-sleeved like to preach.
