    Jealous

I have a co worker who happens to be a dear friend to. When I finally told her I was going to have this surgery, she just keeped telling me about how her sister had RNY 12 years ago and gained back weight. Well maybe she gained 20 or so lbs back, but not close to what she ever weighed at het highest. I can tell just from listening to her it sounds like jealousy. With me she says she was happy and supports me, but has never mentioned anything to me yet. And I am down 55#! Everyone else I know has said something positive. I hate that some people just can't be happy for you. She is over weight also, so why doesn't she chose to do something about it instead of being unhappy all the time. I just don't get it:)
  2. I have BCBS in New York. I had made sure I was going to meet all their requirements before I began the process. After about 6 months of prep, seeing nutritionist, psychologist, getting sonograms done, getting documentation, and dropping 5% body weight, they denied me 2 days after my surgeon sent in the pre-approval request and paperwork. They denied me for "indications of severe liver disease", which I don't have. I do have "fatty liver disease", which their policy specifically mentions as not being considered a disqualifying reason, so it should never have been denied in the first place. They had 30 days to consider the appeal, and make a decision. They waited until the afternoon of the 30th day to overturn the denial. Lord was I pissed. Sometimes I wonder if the people against health care reform have ever actually dealt with an insurance company.
  3. I too am able to eat anything, it is really affecting my weight loss. I am getting discouraged. I know the surgery is a tool, but I have not made strides much at all in the right direction. But I don't feel much restriction at all!
  4. Yup, I live in California and when I had a tummy tuck three years ago my doctor filled out the disability paperwork and I got SDI for 6 weeks. I think the reason they are so generous with it is because you actually pay into those benefits. I was shocked that I could get disabilty pay for an elective procedure but when I researched it online I found the confirmation they would cover it and once submitted even with the CPT code they didn't hesitate on the claim You will have one week waiting period before your entitled to benefits. So if they will cover it for an elective procedure I am sure they do it for a medically necessary weight loss procedures. You can also get the benefits if you are not working but worked in the previous 18 months and are NOT getting unemployment.

    Unjury

There is a product called ideal protein, you usually have to get it through a Dr, but I see they sell it on ebay. I went on the "ideal protein" diet nov 2009, and by early Feb 2010, I had lost 65 pounds! I lost my job soon after, and couldn't afford the diet, and gained it all back plus plus! But it works and is highly assimilable, quality protein. I still have some, and I'm going to use it after surgery. It comes in all different types, like chocolate pancakes, drinks, omlets, etc. most of it is very good. Check it out

    boobies

I am skeptical of any machine that boasts to grow your boobs. If it was that easy, why would people get implants? Much like, if the diet pills worked, why would someone have a weight loss surgery? --it didnt claim to grow your boobs, just focus the exercise on the muscles under/around the area to "perk" up and tone them? anywhoo, you are absolutely right, if thats all it took, why would i be searching all these pic's of lucky lady's new boobies! another year, another year, another year.... i really think i look funny! but that is another post...
  7. Thanks for that queenv1505 this is why I'm so glad I signed up for this site. My friends and family are against the whole thing. They said that you didn't have surgery to put on the weight so why do you need it to take off. It's like they don't want me to succeed in this. I'm am depressed about the way I feel and not one person is supporting my decision. I'll be 41 in April and by the end of this year my goal is to be healthier, more fit, and a size 12 or smaller. Keeping my eyes on the prize.....with or without their support. THANK YOU!!!

    Psych Hold

Agreed. This is a huge decision. The sleeve is irreversible. You want to go in with your eyes wide open. The psych needs to make sure you know and understand what you are getting yourself into. Real world example - I knew someone who failed the psych years ago. What did he do? He went to south America where the requirements were easier. About a year after the surgery he started sabotaging his progress by grazing with carbs and alcohol. Gained the weight back. It is tough if psych says no but I think it is important. I am on my pre op diet and already I am noticing how I have previously used food to comfort me during stressful times. Just had my pre op visit and it was a little stressful so after the visit the first thing I thought about is how normally I would just go to the hospital cafe for a snack and a coffee to deal with it. Of course I can't now. Amazing how the mind works. We need to deal with our minds or this won't work. May not be what the op wants to hear but I mean no offense, just my .02
  9. It's weird that I am overjoyed to be over-weight, but today I found out that I have lost 33 pounds and my BMI fell into the overweight range. No longer obese! The sleeve has helped me beyond words. Looking so forward to being a normal weight! Yay!

    I Miss You Guys!

Oh sweetcheeks, it sounds like you have your hands full. Your job is to keep sane while trying to be around the insane. I know you can do it, let us know how your weight loss management classes go so we can look into joining around our areas if they are any good. I'm glad you came on to say hi, I was wondering where you were and the Talk Lounge has been quiet with you gone. Come back when you can!!

    I Miss You Guys!

Aren't crazy moms the best? Something only a child of the cirus would understand. I had to laugh about your mom writing on the walls. Not that my mom ever did something like that, but there are so many different types of crazy. We miss you too, really, really, really. Jonathan asked if he could come back and so we let him. Silly to even think that he needed to ask.... I've posted several of my usual long-winded papers that ramble on about weight loss, or not. Hope your GI stuff goes well and you get good news. And stop with the sugar, alright? *(ducks out real quick)*
  12. I lost 9 lbs in 2 weeks but, then after I got where I could eat I gained 5 of it back. Now, I am 6 wks post op and first fill and starting to lose again. I am going to have for another fill when I start eating more. Hope it helps ya and good luck on your journey.

    Does anyone measure food?

Myndoc made it clear that I WILL gain back some weight between surgery and finding the 'sweet spot.' Between the swelling going down and not feeling quit as full, I will begin to change portion sizes. This is where the scale commes in, to keep portions consistant. Don't beat youeself up if you gain a couple of pounds. It will come off!

    What Is The "sleeve"

It is a type of gastric surgery referred to as a sleeve (like a sleeve in a shirt) small tube extending from one end to the other. A large portion of the stomach is removed leaving this sleeve like tube. "Loving my sleeve" means loving my new stomach and it's shape at least for me. "Rock'n the sleeve" means I am losing weight and it's working great. I hope this helps. I love this type of gastric surgery.

My doc wanted me walking for an hour a day pre-op and post-op. It was 30 days post-op that I was cleared for weight lifting.

    What To Eat????

Ok I was banded on March 5,2012. I was told by my doctors office no carbs.... so now I am so confused as of what to eat for breakfast.. I have only been doing eggs and I am so burnt out.. what can I eat for breakfast foods? I was told no grits, or oatmeal. They also said its not permanent just until you get to your goal weight... HELP....
  18. Thank you for the response. I did go yesterday and had my band emptied. I lost 11lbs from last Monday to yesterday. The doctor's response to me was "most woman would be jealous of you losing 11lbs so fast:cursing: Okay I want to lose weight but not like that. So anyways next Tuesday I get to see Dr. Thomas and hopefully start over. I'm so excited  to get back on track. I'm trying to eat light and stay away from the junk so I don't gain the 11lbs back.

    Uh..... Ohh

Hi Motivated, Don't feel down on yourself about this. Look you are making the best decision for you and more importantly your health. I myself am not banded and my surgery is scheduled in just 13 days. Of course I am nervous and scared. This is a normal feeling you are having. Listen, I put the surgery off two years ago and litterally gained 60 pounds MORE! I know this time around I need a little help, and the band will be that 'push' we need to jumpstart us off so we can finally succeed in losing weight and keeping it off. I don't know about you but I am sooo tired of the ups and the downs, the highs and the lows. All that yo-yo-ing just makes you feel like a failure alone. Most importantly, no matter what you will stil have to work hard with the band 'remembering its just a tool'. Now, as far as surgery is concerned from what I know its less invasive, and the suregery itself is not long (you can expect to be in the OR for about an hour) Scars, don't even worry about it! In time they fade and heal very nicely. I have a long scar on my hip from having my hip replaced and honestly you can't even notice it. And that was a pretty heavy cut I had. Lotions and oils can help smooth out the scars and before you know it will be transparent as into your own skin. Don't forget, these are minor incisons not huge big ones. Lastly, your scars will not be a reminder of you failing, but a reminder of how you took control of your own health, and for that reason you should be very proud of those scars... (((hugs))) -Patty

    What To Expect?!?!

For openers -- the people who are telling you that you could die are crazy. Don't listen to them. Second, if you really want to worry about risks -- then make a list of all of your current medical conditions. If you don't face some of the potential risks invovled with the band now --- what is going to happen to you in 10 yrs? With the band you do have a decent chance of developing some type of discomfort and minor complicaiton soon or later that you will most likely be able to deal with. There is also always a small possbility it will be more compicated and that you may eventally have to have it out or revised. But thre's one thing for sure beyond any question ----- that is -- if you don't do something radical to lose the weight you have - you're defintely headed for extremely serious trouble. I got the band almost 5 yrs ago. I took care of it. I lost and kept off 80lbs. I have tired very hard not to play games with it and I usually manged to stay honest and real. People who don't do that are going to have trouble. Sometimes even people who are very good have trouble. All I can tell you is -- it's just unbelieveble to actually get your life back. I not only lost 80lbs and regained my health-- I feel like I turned the clock back 80 yrs! I'm 61 and people think I'm 40. I feel like 35. Look --- I"m not going to tell you that there are guarantee to the band ---- but there are definely guarantees to being morbidly obese.
  21. What's your purpose for drinking Protein shakes? Just because? Do you have plans to exercise pretty hard/weight lift? If not I don't see the real point. The purpose of Protein Shakes is truly convenience; people drink them when there isn't time for a meal. Why drink protein when you can eat a 4oz chicken breast and feel satieated for much longer? Protein won't make you lose weight. After/before surgery we're usually pushed to drink them so that we lose fat, not pre-existing muscle mass. Just my $.02. I see no purpose unless you're looking to workout hard or if you're on the go and need a meal.

    Consult to Surgery

I started July 2016 , my surgery date is Feb 13. (Tomorrow). My insurance and program required 6 month weight loss and hitting target weight before surgery.
  23. Well had my physical today and passed. I am healthy just over weight by 75 pounds. I am so nervous, I am having the sleeve and was concerned about going under because my BP runs low 100/46 today, that is a normal for me or it runs 90/42, no dr has said anything about it being low so guess I'm good. My dr wanted me to have the sleeve before I have health issues, I think it's a good idea, I have tried dieting, weight watchers, the military diet and I couldn't get the weight to come off, always so discouraging. Breathes deeply so nervous.

    Lower left belly pain

I’m definitely experiencing the same pain. I am 10 Days post op from gastric bypass. I had my post op appointment this past Monday. I explained to my doctor the pain. He did advise me at that time that he did all of the major work on that side. I told him that the pain increases when I’m trying to drink protein shakes. He advised me to take my time and as my stomach heals things will get better. Unfortunately, my doctor doesn’t believe in sending you home with pain meds. Tylenol doesn’t help me at all. I normally have to lay down for awhile. I told my mom I want to lose weight but I didn’t want to lose it like this (not eating). The only thing I can get down is water and maybe a cup of broth. Tried some soup today and I thought I was going to died from the pain. I hope your doctor can shed some light to your pain!!
  25. Hi folks Found this site whilst browsing lap band procedures out of desperation. I'm Kim, 46, live in Southampton, and I've never had a weight problem until I had a number of gynae related problems then a partial hysterectomy in 2007 then the rest out in 2011. Been on HRT since then and by weight has balloned. I am only 5 feet 1 so every stone makes me look like a hippo. Seeing photographs of me recently has made be so depressed, no matter how little I eat nothing seems to make a difference. I have been on a low calorie liquid diet for a few weeks now and haven't lost a pound; I feel something is quite wrong with my metabolism but my GP says just eat less and move move more. The moving thing would be easy except I have a disability, chronic asthma and cannot walk very far without excrutiating pain in my feet. I suffer from calcified tendons which can happen at any time, at the moment I have calcific achilles tendons and can barely walk more than 5 paces without having to stop and also have calcific tendonitis in my shoulders which prevent me from swimming. A few years ago I could swim 100 lenghts of my local pool in 90 mins, today I would be lucky to manage one :-( I know that loosing weight would help my physical conditions and improve my general wellbeing but as I can't exercise I am on a road to nowhere. It seems a gastric band is my only hope to restrict my food intake to a bare minimum. What upsets me is that I am not a massive eater anyway, never eat bread, don't like sweets, rarely eat chocolate, and have cut my alcohol intake to a few social glasses of wine at the weekends. I don't know what has made me put on so much weight but it seems that nothing I do works to resolve the weight problems. I am going to look into going to Belgium for the surgery, there seems to be a lot of people that have chose this option. Can anyone point me in the right direction here ? I know there are many posts on this and the particular surgeon but to save me hours wading through them is there a quick bullet point list on how to contact said Surgeon, make the arrangements, what to expect etc ? Thanks for letting me having a rant....feel a bit better now :-) Have a great weekend K x
