  1. My Fitness Pal is a great tracker. Not only does it track your food, but it also tracks your weight and your excercise. You can also run reports showing your weight loss over a week, 90 days, 180 days and 1 year. Hope this helps.
  2. Hi! Im still waiting on my approval but I have another question. I know I need breast reduction surgery also. Has anyone have heard of them doing that at the same time as the gastric bypass or do they make u wait til goal weight? Sent from my SM-N920R6 using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. @@tekjr1 weight gain Water, exercise???? maybe, maybe like you said "not too worried" you are losing 4.5 lbs a week - thats so great!!! 2 lb weight gain??? it does happen to some at times but the weight should start coming off again but sounds like you are following all the rules - exercising, drinking, watching intake tracking MFP can't get much better than that btw - please stop scratching your head you might lose some hair soon enough 25 lb loss since surgery keep up the good work for the rest of your healthier, happier, longer life kathy congrats
  4. Had surgery on 4/1 and I am down 25 pounds from day of surgery. About 35 altogether. I exercise 5-6 days per week in the gym usually getting about one hour of cardio. I am taking in about 800-1000 calories per day with about 70 percent coming from Protein. I track everything I eat on My Fitness Pal. I get my full allotment of Water on most days. This weekend I had to travel and when I weighed in at the gym on Monday, I had gained 2 pounds. Not too worried, but after a steady 4.5 pound per week loss I have been scratching my head how I gained. I was disciplined on my eating habits while away. Could it be water retention or exercise related? Thanks, TEK

    27 and Sleeved

Wow, I have to say your story is similar to mine (I am also 27, married at 23, and your emotions)....except I'm a woman. I was actually overweight as a child, then lost weightt in high school and became popular....which really messed with my psyche and self confidence...so when I gained over a 120lbs after high school, I felt I was worthless. Started missing functions because of embarrassment (even my five year reunion.) I am having my surgery on this Tuesday and am excited! I think I will start talking to a counselor right away to help me cope. Good luck!!

    27 and Sleeved

Such a great story, I can totally relate. I was an average in high school, lost weight in college and since 2003 I've slowly put on 100lbs due to numerous things of overeating, working two jobs, getting married and my thyroid. I found myself eating like a pig in hiding, but eating like a bird in public. There are always an multitude of excuses. I had two friends who were sleeved earlier this year - one friend admitted to not following the plan as scheduled like working out, etc. and she has lost 60lbs since May 2011. I was sleeved on 8/17, and have lost 20lbs since 08/15. I noticed yesterday in the shower it was so much easier to scrub my feet than before and that's when it hit me, that losing weight is actually happening! I have been experiencing ALOT of emotional stress and changes before and after the surgery. I am questioning everything, "Is this where I really want to be in my life?", "Do I want to be married?", "Do I want to take the same way to work everyday?". I know it's things I have to deal with on my own so I decided to see a therapist on the side. My husband is totally supportive but something this severe makes me question everything. I too had black blood which freaked me out but was assured it was normal due to the tubes. Good luck to you!

    Failure

@@Averiex You got lots of sound advice here. Remember you just had major surgery and give yourself a break. You need some TLC not more bad feelings. You have not failed you have not even begun this journey. Surgery is but the open doorway that you have just caught a breeze from and have yet to cross the threshold of. As many have said it takes time, you did not get to be the size you are over night and it will not go away over night. If it did you would be just as unhappy for the results as I have heard many other friends who have had alternate surgeries and lost weight quickly only to find themselves struggling years out with weight gain. The beauty of the band is that as you lose slowly and adjust to your optimal fill levels you learn the basic mechanics of the band and you have the time to make the life style changes and learn to work along with your band in harmony. This is something that other WLS modalities don't necessarily have afford you the time to learn, and patients find themselves learning after their initial weight loss that it takes that permanent life long lifestyle change not just a diet mentality to keep them healthy and their weight maintained. So don't feel down, come to the boards and share your journey and seek support that's why we are here! You have a great group of people who have been down the road are on the road and we are always learning and growing and sharing with each other!
  8. Thank you so much for your story, and Congratulations on your weight loss!!! That is awesome!! I will be visiting family the weekend I start my 3rd phase, so I am a bit concerned about what i can/will eat. And just hope I don't get sick. I know so will have to have shakes while so am there, and drink plenty of fluids, but kinda scared about what to eat. Thanks again for sharing your story! You are doing great!!
  9. Restriction =/= weight loss. Yes, it does help, but just because you've reached restriction doesn't automatically mean the scale is going down. If you aren't tracking what you eat, start. See how many calories you're getting a day. You may not be eating enough, or you may be eating too much. Are you exercising? Exercise is really a must, and just walking really won't cut it. Try to up your exercise; do something a little bit more intense. It all comes down to calories in calories out. I learned the hard way with that but when you burn more calories than you eat, you lose weight.
  10. I had surgery 6/3/10 and I was losing weight through out June and July. Pre-op and the weight i lost during the two months is about 30 lbs. But August I actually gained weight. I got a fill later in August and I am up to 5ccs in a 10cc band. I feel A LOT of restriction, and i eat a lot less. I also work out monday-friday. I lost 2 lbs right after my fill... but nothing since. I dont understand. I dont want to get another fill and be uncomfortable. I am kinda discouraged. Does anyone have any suggestions?
  11. I have decided to go with this surgery due to my 12 yr struggle with diabetes. I am so excited for the day that I wont have to take anymore shots. My big day is June 16th and it cant get here fast enough.

    Un-Sleeved Introduction

Greetings! Im new(ish) to this forum too and I completely understand you on the husband thing. It took me literally years to convince him that it wasnt my (completely) my fault that i cant lose weight and that the sleeve is the best option for me. I dont know if you can or not, but I took my husband to my local hospitals free seminar about WLS and thats what convinced him. He is the kind of person that needs facts and proof and SOMEONE ELSE to tell him these things. lol After that it was all smooth sailing. I have my psych evaluation on Monday and have got the ball rolling on my surgery. I cant wait until i can have a date for that! But just so you know, I feel your pain and you arent alone! Let me know if you need to vent or even if you just have a funny joke! my ears are always open. Its nice to have other young mommies to relate too. Caitlyn
  13. I am only 1 week post op but I have lost 9 lbs since surgery and a total of 32 lbs since starting the liquid diet. I guess it just varies from person to person. I did get the plication with the band so I hope to lose weight at a more rapid pace.
  14. I had my IUD taken out in February and I have gained 10 lbs. I knew I had gained 5 but I got on this morning and I am up 10 lbs! I am sick over this.

    Stalling!

Thanks, everyone, for the great responses. I will keep all these words of wisdom in mind while on my journey! P.S. Yes, I lost waaay less weight on Weight Watchers, but the reason why I chose bariatric surgery is precisely because the other methods weren't working. So, yeah, I have high expectations. But as someone put it, once that weight is loss, it's not coming back. I know I have to concentrate on the direction of the scale, however slow it's moving.

    Required weight loss.. concerned

I know where you are coming from with having to lose weight before your surgery. I thought the same thing you did. If I haven't been able to successfully lose weight myself for the past 25 years, what makes now any different? The difference is that you really aren't dieting this time. You are making a total lifestyle change that you will need to follow from now on. I lost about 12 pounds in 3 months with my doctor supervised diet and that was before I made any diet changes that I will follow from now on. I met my surgeon after my 3 month supervised diet and he gave me some tips and so did the NUT. I was told to cut out all soda and sweetened beverages. Also no carbonated drinks. Increase my water or non caloric beverage intake to at least 64 oz a day. Try to cut as much sugar intake as I could and lower my carb intake too. Doing all of that made a huge difference for me and I lost some weight as I changed over. Finally, I started walking everyday. I just walked around my neighborhood and worked my way up to 4 miles a day-2 miles in the morning and 2 in the evening. Walking made a huge difference and it is important to your healing process after surgery. I decreased my pain immensely by getting up and walking as much as possible after the surgery. And lastly, I tried out my liquid diet about 2 months prior to my surgery date. I did it for 2 weeks and lost 18 pounds prior to surgery. You can do this! This is a life changing experience and is so worth it. Good luck to you! [emoji3]
  17. My surgery was 7/31 and I did not see any weight loss until I got in 65grms of protein and my water!! It will come promise ! Remember your body is healing and it is holding on to whatever it can!
  18. Kris, My personal experience is that it wasn't the pain so much that gets you down... it's everything else! I have heard that lipo is kinda painful though. I now weigh the same as when I had surgery and since I just started exercise, I do have a little swelling. I came home heavier - I gained quite a bit of Water weight. Maybe it is because i lost about 8 pounds in the month before surgery, I am not sure. Everyone is different - many lose, but i didn't. He removed 5.5# of skin but said i didn't have enough fat to lipo. I think those 5# will show up on the scale once i no longer have swelling. I also didn't lose my appetite - I was very hungry. I was so glad I brought my Protein drinks. Again, I am an anomoly I guess. I didn't lose a full clothing size - yet, but my 8 pants (non stretch, standard brand sizing) fit me much better and are loose in the waist now. Before I always had to buy clothes that didn't make my skin spill out and that problem is eliminated everywhere except my side boobs (I didn't have surgery to correct that). My top size is the same, but oddly my bra band is shrunk even though i didn't have any surgery there. Somethings have redistributed and I now have a much more curvy/proportioned figure. And yes, I had a lot done at once. It is probably a good thing because I don't plan to go back for more anytime soon. I do love my results though. Good luck!

    Clothes

Some of my clothes are getting to big for me...yippee. I am struggling however about if I should get rid of my clothes or hold onto them. My plan is not to ever get into a size 24 again, but I've said that before. In fact, over the last 4 years I have lost weight twice , gave my size 24's away just to find I gained it back and there I was shopping for my size 24's. Is this going to be any different? Has anyone else felt the same way?

    No "Steve Harvey" this time..

@@Chioni.RNY my plan originally stated that I had to complete my 6 months of motivated weight loss, get approved and then I had to schedule my surgery 6 months from my approval date. So it was going to make my process a 1+ year long. Luckily my husband's HR department was very willing to work with their UHC rep and figure out what was actually expected of me. After I posted my response to @@Djmohr earlier, the HR department emailed me back and said I DON'T have to wait any longer and can go on the books as soon as my surgeon's office wants to put me there woo hoo! It's still been almost 9 months since I began :|
  21. I was banded 11/8/12. Weighed 230 pounds and wire size 20 jeans. (I'm vertically challenged)Yesterday I weighed 187 and wore a snug 14 all day!!! I feel soooo great! My knees don't hurt and clothes are fun again. It is taking more patience than I thought it would. Fills seem too far apart sometimes! I find I lose when I low carb and plateau when I don't. Better than gaining any day! The best advise I got about my band was "the band doesn't work when you are eating, it works two hours later" so true! Still got my eye on those sassy size eight jeans I have hanging by my elliptical, but at least now it seems possible!

    Would you do this?

No. I dont know if you remember but in the recent Melbourne Marathon there was a team event and Andy was looking for participants here. I emailed him and said I'd love to be a part of it, but anyway, after I'd gotten all excited it turned out he'd organised coverage on Today Tonight, which is a current affairs program on over here. I didnt want to let him down, but aside from not having the time to commit to group training, I really did not want to be on television. I didnt want people who've known me in my past, say ex colleagures, see that over the years since I'd left work I'd gotten fat as a house and had weight loss surgery. I truly dont mind people knowing now that I've had WLS, but I"m much much shyer about the fact that people who never knew me as fat would find out that I got fat, if that makes sense. And whilst I hope the story was motivational to people, I really didnt care to hand over creative control to the media, especially to a show that's notorious for scandalous and inflammatory journalism. It could have been presented in any way and I'd be helpless to control it. No thanks. So I did the run on my own, went in the 7.5km event. It went well for the team and I'm so glad for them but being on TV wasnt for me.
  23. Hi everyone! Hope all is well. I was wondering if there were any Bypass vets out there who's highest weight was the in the 400's. Mine was 437LB and I just want to know how much weight have you lost and about how long did it take you to lost it after surgery? Im curious because I am 3 weeks out and have only lost 5LBS. But I am not eating hardly anything. So just curious. Thanks.

    Heart valve issues anyone?

I have AFIB and was able to have surgery. After the surgery, my heart rate was really high and my regular medications weren’t working. I ended up in the hospital an extra week until they were able to get the rate under control with more medications. The cardiologist will sign off on the surgery if it will benefit your condition. Weight reduction should also make heart procedures safer if you need to have them in the future. I’m seeing a heart specialist next month and expect that I’ll need to have a procedure to get my heart rhythm back to normal. Hopefully January will be a good month for weight loss. Good luck to you.

You also have to consider the man you are dealing with. If they are around long enough they're going to notice the weight loss, the small amounts of food, and your eating habits.
