6/22 too and I have another three weeks of liquids before soft foods. I'm so ready to eat something instead of drink.

    June 21st Peeps

Hi everyone! Sounds like everyone is doing well YAY! I has my VSG on the 21st as planned without complications. My 1 week post op appointment is on Wednesday. Sometimes I sit here with my newish stomach and just wish I felt like I knew more of what I am supposed to be doing. All they say is sip, but no one says when to stop, and I don't feel full. I just go from drinking, to suddenly uncomfortable and overfull feeling. This is week 3 of only liquids for me. I am sick of all things that taste sweet, especially protein shakes. My brain keeps saying that if my pouch only holds 2 ounces then should I really be drinking as much as I am so quickly? The terror of possibly stretching my pouch already is steady in the back of my mind. Also, head hunger, stomach growling, and anticipation are a constant!

    RNY foodies?

I’m just wondering how my fellow foodies have navigated things since surgery and how are things going weeks, months, years out. I went to school for culinary arts and though I no longer work in the food industry I still looooooove cheffing up some gourmet meals for my family. It’s truly my passion. I just need reassurance that I’ll still be able to indulge in my passion even if I am only able to take a bite or two of my filet mignon or scallops. I just love having dinner parties and cooking for my people. If that makes sense.

Hi, there, NC girl! I have a former neighbor who had VSG done in 10/202- and after bumping down, she is now off her thyroid meds. My bp meds were halved last week after only 2 weeks post op. I have been on them for 21 years! We have been in the triangle for almost 2 years after 29 years in northern Virginia. We like it here, and are building in Emerald Isle because I must be near the ocean in the summer. Good luck to you!⛱

Eating and Drinking 30 Minute Rule

My surgeon and nutritionist said that I could drink right up until eating, which I have done consistently for the three years since surgery. It didn't seem to affect my weight loss at all. They also said that no drinking for thirty minutes after eating is for life, and I have followed that religiously. And yes, I do get extremely thirsty at times. It's a small price to pay to be at a normal weight.

Hi Everyone: I was sleeved years ago, and went well. 3 weeks ago my daughter who is special needs had to get sleeved. Long story. But she was doing great in hospital then week later started. They did sleeve and herina repair. She started with shoulder pain for almost week. got threw but in process went from drinking well to now nothing. She wants no food and or drinks. Been 2 times and fluids. perks her up for day but then right back. Now to point fighting with to even get a drink of water in her. And she has this dry nagging cough. That seems to be more and more. Sounds like going to throw up alot too. when does drink its like stuck and don't want to go down. Has anyone had this? Been back and fourth daily with doctors office but keep sending for more fluids. Any ideas what could be going on? Just wondering if anyone has had this? Getting very scard for her.

    Any July buddies?

I am scheduled for July 7th. I am now doing my 2 week preop meal. I have one problem, 3 days ago on Thursday 6/23, I came down with covid. Feels more like a head cold or sinus issue. I tried calling my doctor on Friday, but no response. I have been eating per meal requirements and drinking plenty of fluids. I more felt like it was the flu. I did a home test and it showed positive. I am sure they are going to push back my surgery and I am so disappointed, I have been working on this since 2019. Two hospitals , 2 doctors later and change of insurance and not to mention I saved and I am now paying cash. I should o expect the delay to be?? Has anyone had this issue. I know my lungs are clear I am using the spiral meter the think you suck air and hold ball in place. I have been rubbing on Vicks. I have been resting a lot and taking it easy.
  11. Often people have to change some meds they’re on because your bypass may affect the absorption of the medication. Often these are slow release meds. BUT they don’t take you completely off the tablets. (Except may blood pressure meds.) I agree with the others in that being taken of your meds cold turkey is contributing a lot to what you are experiencing. It can be dangerous to cut anti depressant meds. And yes, definitely contact your prescribing doctor. You don’t have to rely solely on shakes. (I found them awful too.) Try bone broths, wonton soup or pho broths (just strain out the wontons, vegetables, noodles, etc.) soups, yoghurt smoothies (thin yoghurt with milk). Many UK surgeons recommend drinking milk you enrich by adding milk powder. At three weeks we’ve often moved to purées. But of course all plans are different. I gave up shakes I suffered through at the beginning of week three. When do you start purées? Please take care of yourself.

I'm 6/22 & getting hungry for substance. Post-op clear diet is rough after 3 weeks of the liver diet. Sent from my SM-N976U using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. I have been denied coverage from BCBS insurance company for requesting lapband to bypass revision. Because they can find nothing wrong with my band, they won’t do the surgery. Even though the band is okay, I’m not. It has caused esophageal dilation and dysmotility. I lost weight with the band but I was vomiting a lot at night. Id wake up from a dead sleep vomiting out of my nose and mouth at least three nights a week. Very scary due to possibly getting that into my lungs. Has anyone else filed an appeal that was accepted by insurance?

    No BM since surgery

I also had surgery on the 21st. Took a prescribed laxitive twice a day and sprinkled fiber on some of my eats. Still didn't have my first until yesterday. I've read on here about people going almost 2 weeks. I wouldn't wait that long before checking with my doctor, but I wouldn't panic either.
  15. Looking at your title of the post, did you say you're 2 weeks post op??? If so, that may be a big part of your issue. In no way is your stomach healed enough to tolerate alcohol. That comes much later. At this stage you're either still on an all liquid diet (like I was) or you're on mushy foods. At 6 weeks, you'll be able to eat small amounts of normal food, and maybe at that point you can try alcohol or whatever. But at 2 weeks out, no way no how.

    Really this many pills!?

most surgeons do not recommend the patches as there really isnt much scientific evidence yet that they work. i only did the patches for the first week or two until i could do pills. I highly suggest getting bloodwork done to make sure the patches are working if the person goes that route.
  17. I am 3 weeks after surgery. Been fat always. Had the sleeve in 2016 and did well for a few years. The plan was to convert then to the bypass once my BMI was down but then the insurance company decided not to pay and it was a battle til now. I had it 3 weeks ago. And this is so much worse than I could have ever imagined. I realise now that they put me on anti nausea meds and took me off my antidepressants that I’d been on for about 8 years. Cold turkey. I am now a bitch who yells and snaps or cries. That’s it. I had a lot of pain post surgery and was in hospital 6 days not 3 - as with probably lots of us, I’m tolerant to pain meds so I am only now managing with plain paracetamol. But I feel nauseous all the time. OK.. so it’s piteous.. but I really think that I’d be ok if I could stomach any protein powder at all. I just can’t. It’s all completely disgusting. I’m in Europe not the US but I ordered over €200 of different products. All made me vomit. No taste ones, flavoured ones, ones in soups etc. all the same! I sit here with no energy and frankly no will to live. I have a bucketload of pills that I could take but I have kids so I just can’t do that. Somehow this has to turn around. But how? Has anyone been through this? I wanted to move to the country and grow delicious wonderful food and have a few hens, not bankrupt us on buying disgusting “shakes” and being bloody miserable. I don’t weigh. I don’t have scales. I just know that my body is eating itself and I’m not giving it enough protein because I just vomit it back, even the mini-sips. And how miserable is it to be only about to drink 50ml in an hour and have to fill it with sips of stuff that makes you want to vomit… then you do vomit!! Google anything about protein shakes that are any good and of course, they all come up. Can someone actually tell me if they have been in this situation and if they have found any protein that works? What a baby I am but I am at the end of my rope. I appreciate any ideas, especially from people in Europe. My “bariatric team” are useless. Just useless.

Hey guys Just wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar. I am 3 weeks post op and for a week now I have had this red, dry splotchy rash just develop out of no where. It started on my shoulders and is literally going everywhere now. I totally get it's prob got something to do with my vitamins and nutrients etc but wondered if anyone else got this? So hard to know what to do and put on it, my doctor doesn't have a clue and not seeing my surgeon till next week. Thanks Sent from my SM-G988B using BariatricPal mobile app

I had mine done 6/20. So many people are on different nutrition plans. My plan allowed nothing by clear liquids until day 4 post op. Then I could add in protein shakes and that’s it for a week. Just the clear liquids and shakes. Day 11 I think I can add pudding or yogurt or strained soups, but I’d love something now. Being around a whole family who is eating normally is difficult. All I want is to share some food with them.

Liquid Diet vs High Protein diet

It’s always best to follow the diet you were given as it will be to follow their post surgical plan. As @liveaboard15 said different surgeons require different diets. My surgeon would put different patients on different diets based on the amount of weight they had to lose, their weight loss history & their medical history. So my friend was on all shakes, her friend was on two shakes & a meal & I was on keto. You can always ask your surgeon why he requires you to follow the all shake diet. The first five or so days are the hardest as you break some addictions & dependencies. You may headaches, low energy, etc. almost like withdrawal symptoms but better to get past this before surgery than after. Some people slip on their pre surgical diet. A slip is okay but regularly going off plan isn’t. The diet is required so you lose some weight to improve your health, reduce fat around your liver so your tummy can be seen more easily during surgery &, as above, break some habits & food dependencies. You can do it. It’s only two weeks. Some have to do it for three or more weeks.
  23. I drank a few sips of ice tea and vodka and now I feel like there a lump in my throat and my stomach hurts! I REGRET THIS Surgery so much... why did I do this I wasn't huge the scale said that but I had a flat stomach big legs, no HBP, no Diabetes, just IBD, AND GERD! WHY I have no identity now. Eating out, at home, drinking gave me so much pleasure. I feel so stupid. I can't even eat more than 2 bites, I don't want this anymore. I even quit my job. I hate it here! My throat hurts so weird Sent from my SM-G998U using BariatricPal mobile app

    OOTD

A couple of weeks before Covid hit in 2020 & we entered lockdown I bought this outfit & it has been taunting me in my wardrobe ever since. Decided I wasn’t going to wait for a special event any longer so dinner wth my hairdresser current & former stylist was it. New French inspired restaurant in a small country town. My hair looked way better later as we had our regular hair appointment before dinner. The skirt is amazing. Known as the doona skirt as there is a layer of wadding inside. Still didn’t keep me warm enough though lol.
  25. yes planning on it. see my GI doc in a week. I haven't seen my original surgeon in 7 years- I had to switch to another clinic because of insurance purposes and will discuss with my GI doc which surgeon would be better for the revision (now that i've switched to a BCBS plan they both take).... GERD is still terrible.
