    Stall out and depressed

Reach out to your team. I have heard before that sometimes you need to increase your calories for a week or so and then drop back down to like reboot your metabolism. I only heard about it on these groups, but it does make sense to me so I would ask your team for pointers. Ask about the calorie increase and see what they say? They are the pros, we all are just here for support and opinions. Good luck and you will get through this! You are doing an amazing job!❤️

    Stall out and depressed

if you're eating 1000-1300 kcal/day and exercising and weigh 248-291 lbs, you're not in maintenance - you're stalling. Unfortunately, stalls are very common. And a 91 lb loss at this point is amazing. You're losing a lot faster than I did. Stick to your program, and quit weighing yourself so much. The weight is going to come off as long as you stick to your program, whether fast or slow. I was close to a year out before I'd lost as much weight as you have, and I continued losing for almost two years. Be patient and just stick to your plan.

    Stall out and depressed

Your profile says you have lost 91lb in 4-5 months. Consider that amazing. Most take longer to loose that. and stalls happen. I am 2 months post op and i have had 3 stalls. they can be depressing but you will get over it and loose again. as you start to get closer to your goal weight and get more months past your weight loss will slow down. just stick to the program and you will continue to loose some.
  4. I am feeling PHENOMENAL! I am working out 6 days a week, sometimes twice a day. I have been motivating friends and family to exercise, and even training some people. I am down 106 lbs since I started this journey in March of 2021. The process was rough but I am still pulling through. I had to up my calorie intake because my metabolism has increased so much. I was taken off of the diabetes medication all together. Went from taking 4 pills a day, to NONE!!! Sleep apnea has subsided, blood pressure meds were reduce DRAMATICALLY! This was the best decision I made concerning my health, in my life. I don't mind sharing my picture on this post and breaking anonymity. I just want to encourage you ALL to stay the process, ask questions, speak to your dietician and LISTEN TO YOUR BODY! YOU CAN MAKE IT WORK!!! GOD SPEED AND STAY HEALTHY!!!
  5. I had an extended period of time off. I healed really fast BUT I had a little issue with passing out which they had to figure out. Once they took me off my medication I was fine and I went back after a month off. if I didn’t have that issue? One of two weeks would have been sufficient

    Stall out and depressed

Stalls happen. You can experience several of them while you are losing & they usually last - 3 weeks but sometimes more. They are part of the process. Your weight loss will never be a steady decline but will have ups & downs & flatlines. Your body needs time to play catch up with the changes - weight loss, dietary changes, etc. - & your weight loss stalls. (Someone recently posted a link to a surgeon who described it as a pause which I like.) You have been putting it through a lot. Many find that while the scales don’t move they notice their clothes are still getting loser. But yes they can mess with your head. If it persists, contact your dietician. Your diet may need a small tweak or you may need to shake up your exercise (though moving house will keep you very active). Usually they will pass just following your plan.

    Gastric bypass

Hi! I will be 68 in August. My gastric bypass was almost 3 weeks ago. This is the best thing I have ever done for myself. Already my bp meds have been cut in half, and I am walking 3 miles a day. I also had my gallbladder removed and a massive hiatal hernia was repaired
  8. I know this is posted on here time and time again but I'm so frustrated. I'm getting ready for a cross country move. I really imagined that by this time I'd be in the 230s. I have stalled out for the last 3 or 4 weeks and am so frustrated about it. I keep going in between 248 and 251. I don't know if this is maintenance because im only a bit over 4 months post op from gastric bypass. I have definitely increased my calories but am eating in a deficit. My BMR is around 1900 and I'm eating in between 1000 and 1300 a day plus exercise. I have been slacking in water and have not been having protein shakes at all because I'm getting a decent amount through solid food and don't want the extra cals. How do I get past this? I'm going to stay off the scale until the end of next week but I'm still feeling really down and bad about myself. I feel like a disgusting fat mess honestly. I haven't had these feelings since pre op and I just need to vent about it. I was experiencing a period of mania a week ago for a good 2 weeks straight (I'm bipolar) and missed some of my meds. I think I might be crashing and going through a depressive state. It's not super bad but the weight loss stall is making me have a lot of negative self image and feelings of failure. Should I just get back on liquids for a week or something? I'm losing my mind and getting depressed as hell. I'm taking my meds regularly again. I really only missed like 3 or 4 days and I take a small dosage. So I'm hoping to even back out soon but the stall is messing with my brain and confidence. What do you do? 9. Thank you for answering me, friends. I have calmed down a bit, mainly thanks to the idea of bone broths. Yes! I can make bone broths and I can stomach that - and it’s fluid. So that’s my plan. I am so so grateful to you. Yes also to yoghurts and I’m 3 weeks in so broth and yoghurt. Last night I took a bit of the outside of my husband’s pizza and chewed it and chewed it and then just spat it out. (Sorry for TMI). I felt a bit better as well.. maybe just the comforting taste after nothing but water and bile for two weeks. So now I’m feeling a bit better. I have a review with the surgeon in a few weeks and I’m going to have a few things to say. Firstly, that it’s not good enough after paying thousands for aftercare that I can’t even get a phone call when I need one. And two, it’s not good enough for me to have been taken off the antidepressants without consultation or help. Thank you for giving me the support. I am so grateful.
  10. Renew Bariatrics in Tijuana is where I ended up going. Dr Perez. Omg AMAZING! They have a very active FB group too. Love it!! On it all day every day lol anyway, stitches dissolve on their own. No need for follow-ups really. Pretty quick n ez procedure n I'm 3 weeks post op as of Saturday. I pulled the trigger shortly after making this post - down 23 lbs so far🎉

    YAY

I made a comment a while ago that it is amazing how as you gain weight you don't notice all the negative changes to your body but when you loose the weight you notice EVERY TINY CHANGE! My knees no longer grind when walking up steps. My feet and ankles don't swell up when walking around or being on them for a period of time. I get up from sitting much easier. I walked around all day (9 hours) at the amusement park and didn't really get worn out or "ready to go" in a few hours. I fit into smaller booth seats at restaurants, and don't worry about specifically asking for a table. Gezz, the list could go on and on! I need to remeasure myself because I see a huge difference. Even my shoes are loose. I went from a 4x shirt to a 1x or 2x depending on the cut. Size 26 jeans down to a size 20, which is loose. Flip side, so many almost new expensive clothes to donation! Three trash bags already and I need to go through my shirts tonight! We really need to find a way to do a clothing exchange for bariatric patients.

    6 weeks post op depressed

Yes Me. I have dumped the iron and multivitamin as it made me vomit and be constipated. Just had a week on a multivitamin with out iron and I am improving.

    August Surgery Buddies!

How are you feeling this week? Any new changes? Any challenges that you are having? I'm a little concerned about nutrient absorption, so curious as to how things are going.

    August Surgery Buddies!

I can't believe how fast time is flying! I created a countdown timer until my surgery and I often forget how many days are left. It won't be long until I'm 30 days out. I'm nervousxcited! But this week I finalize all my supplements, liquids, and support items so I can be prepared for any last minutes. I started EFT tapping on successful Pre-Op surgery to help relieve the jitters and to continue relearning my new relationship with food. I no longer want food to be the center of my life, just a part of it

My post-op is pretty strict, but not this. Clear liquids for the first nine days, but we can have broths, popsicles, tea, and juices. They actually encourage sugar during this week as our calories are so low.

At least the 30th is this week…although I know it’s not much help. It does seem extreme to me, but what do I know? The post op eating criteria seems to be all over the place. Do you have a nutritionist who has been assigned to you?

No. Next week I am allowed to add in 1 protein drink per day along with my continued clear liquid. I may breakdown a sip a muscle milk today. I feel pretty crappy

6/22 too and I have another three weeks of liquids before soft foods. I'm so ready to eat something instead of drink.

    June 21st Peeps

Hi everyone! Sounds like everyone is doing well YAY! I has my VSG on the 21st as planned without complications. My 1 week post op appointment is on Wednesday. Sometimes I sit here with my newish stomach and just wish I felt like I knew more of what I am supposed to be doing. All they say is sip, but no one says when to stop, and I don't feel full. I just go from drinking, to suddenly uncomfortable and overfull feeling. This is week 3 of only liquids for me. I am sick of all things that taste sweet, especially protein shakes. My brain keeps saying that if my pouch only holds 2 ounces then should I really be drinking as much as I am so quickly? The terror of possibly stretching my pouch already is steady in the back of my mind. Also, head hunger, stomach growling, and anticipation are a constant!

    RNY foodies?

I’m just wondering how my fellow foodies have navigated things since surgery and how are things going weeks, months, years out. I went to school for culinary arts and though I no longer work in the food industry I still looooooove cheffing up some gourmet meals for my family. It’s truly my passion. I just need reassurance that I’ll still be able to indulge in my passion even if I am only able to take a bite or two of my filet mignon or scallops. I just love having dinner parties and cooking for my people. If that makes sense.

Hi, there, NC girl! I have a former neighbor who had VSG done in 10/202- and after bumping down, she is now off her thyroid meds. My bp meds were halved last week after only 2 weeks post op. I have been on them for 21 years! We have been in the triangle for almost 2 years after 29 years in northern Virginia. We like it here, and are building in Emerald Isle because I must be near the ocean in the summer. Good luck to you!⛱

Eating and Drinking 30 Minute Rule

My surgeon and nutritionist said that I could drink right up until eating, which I have done consistently for the three years since surgery. It didn't seem to affect my weight loss at all. They also said that no drinking for thirty minutes after eating is for life, and I have followed that religiously. And yes, I do get extremely thirsty at times. It's a small price to pay to be at a normal weight.
