Fills and delayed restriction
Avrietta replied to taylorgirl1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your right. I have been suck with the thought the band would do all the work for me. I certainly have cut down on the amount of food I consume. Having just had an adjustment I certainly feel the restriction right now. And I have also talked with my buddy, whose banding was the same day, who also hasn't had success with the weight loss on the fact we need to move! Yes finding a plan to follow is probably going to to be answer. Thanks again for the insight. -
2Nd Fill And 5Cc's Later I Feel Strange
dquoiya replied to Cutiepy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes you are tooooo tight. This happend to me a few weeks ago when I was at 5.5 and I waited 2 days to see if the swelling would go down and after sliming and not being able to drink anything I went back to my doctor he took .5 out and I instantly felt better. I was able to drink warter and I cant tell you how good that felt. I was so tight that i could not swollow my slavia and had to pull over in my car on the freeway several times throught out the day to get spit it out ( TMI) I know. Please do yourself a favor and go see your doctor for an unfill, a small unfill can make all the diffrence in the world no amount of weight loss is worth feeling this way. Also as a side note i went and got my 5th fill yesterday he put .4 for at total of 5.4 and I feel great its not to tight at all. So just because you are tight at one number doesnt mean you will be that way forever thats the beauty of the band it works with you if you work with it and I think i am in the green zone YIPPIE. -
I was sleeved at the end of November and have had no hair loss until the last month and that's entirely the fault of a new medication I'm on. But I also got in all of/if not more than my daily protein requirements, took very good care of my scalp and hair before and after surgery. There's a chance you won't lose any at all, but if you do, fear not! It will grow back. They say it tends to start thinning around months 3-5

I am 3 months out and no hair loss. Others warn that it starts at 3 1/2 months. We'll see.

Seeing the psych doctor
The Big Boy replied to kmford's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The biggest thing that the shink wanted to check on with me was to make sure I had realistic expectations about the band. Understanding that is a tool for weight loss and not some magic bullet that will do all the work. Once she realized I had researched it and knew what to expect, she signed off and wished me luck. I am sure your will do the same. Good Luck!! -
7 1/2 months out....121 pounds down so far :) - Pics included of course ;)
Carly4HandinSD posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am 7 1/2 months out and down 121 pounds. I have been at a stall for a few weeks, but am really losing inches even thought the scale isn't moving right now. I don't mind it one bit! I started in a size 26/28 pants size. This weekend I went shopping and bought... get this a size 13 in the juniors section... OMG I could not beleive it, a size 13... that is half of what I was wearing before.. The last time I bought juniors size clothing was in elememntary school! Another amazing NSV was the for the first time in my life I was able to shop at Vistoria Secrets... 112$ later and it was super worth it... I have never felt so normal in my life.. The only down side of all this weight loss is that my cup size has gone up :/ So weird, most women lose weight in their boobs.. but not me... I have gone way down in band size but up in cup.. maybe I was wearing the wrong size to begin with HAHAHA. Sorry guys, this was a rant probably better for women But none the less I am super happy with my results and have no intention of stopping anytime soon -
My hairs falling out :'(
Chubarella replied to newme31's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 2 1/2 months out and I keep losing alot of hair on a daily basis. Its in the shower, in my car, on my brush. Doc just says to take biotin. I was taking that before I had surgery. I was losing because of a certain medication I was taking. It didn't help. -
Hi All, I just wanted to share that I am 4 months out and am definately noticing the change in my body. Yesterday I pulled out of my closet 2 shirts that I wore around the winter time, they were so big I had to give them away. My home scale shows another 7 pound lost, BUT I want to wait till it's official on my doctors scale. My doctor's office sees me every 7-8 weeks so my next visit is the middle of August, I will record my weight loss then. I'm currently at 1.85cc after my second fill and I don't think I need another adjustment, but we will see what he says.

Really screwed up... Please any help would be appreciated!
jessiquoi replied to JenSul's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in the same place. Tonight is my second followup weigh in, and I'm nervous because I don't know if I'll show a loss. The bottom line is you are the only one who can do this for you. The only thing we can do to help is to tell you that we are experiencing the same thing. Do you want to have the surgery? Do you believe this will work and change your life? I believe this for myself, after reading all the posts here for the last 8 months or so. You have to believe it, first of all. If you believe it will work, then do you believe you are worth it? I believe I deserve every chance I can get for myself to be healthy. If you believe you are worth it, are you willing to work hard for a while, knowing that the eating will become easier to control if you just set yourself up for a safe surgery now by controlling the urge to eat things that are not on your nutritionist's plan for you? I am working so hard, I cry some nights because I want to eat whatever I want and I won't let myself. That's the bottom line. If you want it, if you believe in it, if you believe you deserve it, you can do this. Take a deep breath, forget about everything that you've done to date, and get started now. You can do this. -
Week 5- So Depressing / Disgusting To Eat
Izuri replied to Looking Ahead's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
((((((HUG)))))))) I'm so sorry you're having such a rough time =( The psychologist I got to do my psych eval said that she had read many studies that depression in weight loss surgery patients is very high for this reason. I think that you should seek out some help, even if it does mean going on antidepressants. And even if you do seek out help - it doesn't mean they will force you to go on antidepressants, some people do well with talk therapy and working on better coping strategies and support groups. Does the clinic/hospital you had your surgery at offer any kind of support groups? If they don't, I would search online and see if you can find a local weight loss support group. There are many people going through similar feelings. Lastly, I know that you don't know me, but I always love meeting new people and I am always an ear to vent to if you ever just wanna get anything off your chest. Sometimes it's nice to get it all out to someone who is not involved in any of your real life situations because you can be totally honest with no worries. Whatever you decide, please remember you are not alone. There are people to turn to, and things can get better. food is a tool, but there are other tools we can use to feel better, even though it's hard because we're so used to food and it's so comforting. -
For some reason I am getting nervous!! HELP!
GrizGirl replied to Mcgraw-addict's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
As VQ said--scared is human...This is a life changing event. I felt the same way--really afraid that I would fail at this too.. The way I look at this is: This whole weight loss thing has been a puzzle I've been trying to put together for years..For me it is only a two piece puzzle (diet and exercise, not diet or exercise). I could never seem to get both pieces in my hand to complete this weight loss puzzle. I would religously go to the gym but my head would tell me because I went to the gym I could eat whatever I wanted. Or I would watch what I ate only to forsake exercise because I was watching what I was eating. Having the lap band has taken care of the eating thing for me--I am going to the gym three times a week. Dammit--it's working! 15 weeks out from surgery and I'm down 32 pounds. It's true, you do focus on the can'ts before surgery....but the "can do's" that come after surgery are invaluable. I am succeeding. I am not failing. THIS IS THE BEST FEELING IN THE WORLD! I truly, truly feel that I am capable of reaching my goal weight. Being scared is normal--Being well informed is important. You will do great! Sal -
I am also 6 days out and have lost 8lbs since having surgery. Not that this is a bad thing. I just get discouraged seeing all of these high losses. I lost 3 pounds in the first 17 days postop. Now I'm five pant sizes smaller and 2 pounds from my surgeons goal...do not despair and do not obsess over the numbers on the scale!

Congrats on your loss! I'm dreaming of onederland... ... anyway... bruising is a bit common...just like we can't give blood anymore... our levels are different... you need to be taking your Vitamins and supplements, as that will help. I have always been a "bruiser"... and I could never explain what happened; as always, if this has got you up and night wondering, contact your dr., they may want to run a test to see if you have a deficiency that needs a supplement "boost"... good luck!

Hmmmm, day to day do I feel normal? No, not really. My head hasnt caught up with the weight loss, but when I catch a glimpse of myself or see a photo I think HOLY COW! I LOOK COMPLETELY NORMAL. That's the most awesome feeling in the world. I cant feel my band and I can eat almost everything, but I always am aware when I'm eating. You get used to it though, its not horrible to live like that, it makes me feel in control and reminds me taht I've come from a place I am NEVER going back to. It makes me motivated and keeps me focussed. The times when I've felt frustrated because I just want to stuff my face and not have to eat slowly and carefully are very very few and far between. I dont need that satisfaction any more and when I really feel I do, there are things I can eat around my band (like cookies). I didnt do it for months and months and months after I was banded, now occasionally I do eat five or six in a sitting, but these days more and more I think its just not worth it. I've lost the desire. So I feel more *normal* in that way. It IS a different way of living but its a better way.

Have to hane 5 visits with my pcp.
Sweetbaby1 replied to Tanglesia's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes I agree. Most of us had to complete at least a 3-9 month follow up with pcp, nutritionist, behavior health, weight loss seminars, and other forums. It does seem discouraging because when u have reached Ur decision to go thru with the procedure, and attend the educational forum to hear u have to complete months of follow ups can seem discouraging. But I can assure u, A. It will go bye so fast I'm telling u. B. The education and knowledge u gain from this is so helpful. C. you will not regret it. My 6 months flew by so fast I am still in shock. My surgery is on the 16th and it's so weird to even say it, like I'm in disbelief. I got so use to attending appointments, and classes. When I got the call that I was approved I'm like "wow" lol I wish u nothing but the best please hang in there don't stop now it's just the beginning. When I started my journey, my insurance company told me one thing, but once the new year came 2014, they changed so much and we really had to jump thru loops. I remember this one lady going off in the seminar about the new rules. She was at least 400lbs. At the minium. She grew so angry she told our nutritionist screw it, she was not going to do all the extra stuff that The new year required. Needless to say our nutritionist was about 130lbs, so the lady was not hurting her or losing out of sleep. The woman quit the program and walked away. I tell u that story just to say, hang in there u can and u will make it. Get as much knowledge as possible with these next few months good luck : ) -
That's awesome! I added some low fat sour cream to broth last night, it went down fine and I felt full for the first time in awhile. Ate it a bit too fast though. Congrats on your loss so far! I was sleeved 2/5/14, and as of this morning I'm down 6 pounds from when I came home. Have you tried anything more than creamed soups yet?

Good luck with your weight loss journey. Just keep pushing forward with your nutritionist, blood work and psych eval. You have plenty of time. It took me about 8 weeks to get through the process. Julie

Losing weight preop!?! Help!
LindafromFlorida replied to LaGueriTaChuLa13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Please do not take any diet pills!!!!! There are more answers for you here. Be patient. Some insurances require this weight loss, and some doctors I presume. I would be wringing my hands too, but you want this surgery. Get the Protein shakes incorporated into your lifestyle, get off the carbs and sugars as this will be a way of life for you after surgery. Okay experts. LaGueri needs our help. -
need advice.. 3 months out PLEASE
SherB replied to ms_tonya_nea's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unless I read your post wrong, you are saying you lost 102 pounds since March? If that is the case then a stall in July is not a bad thing. Your body needs to catch up to all of that weight loss. Hang in there and stay away from the scale for a few weeks. I have not had my surgery yet but stalls appear to be a common topic and they typically do not last long. Maybe switch up your exercise a bit. Congratulations! -
Picking a Surgeon!!! Realize vs. Lap
honk replied to krasc001's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor does both LAP and Realize; for me he chose Realize. He has done probably a thousand surgeries so I trusted him to decide. Personally I might do some research on doctors who have more experience than 50. The other question is this doctor a specialist in gastro surgery or is he/she a general surgeon? A specialist has to do extra study in their area; so even it they have only done 50 it's not like they are joe shmo off the street. My surgery was done at a teaching hospital. I was seen by no less than 4 Med students while I was in the hospital who were doing a specialty course in weight loss surgery. -
I get on mine every morning like clock work!!! If im up a pound, or two, I no that I,have to work it off by walking or exercise....when I first started my weight loss Journey I hated that thing I went to ten stores tell I found a medical scale that I liked. Id get so mad at I could see it flying out the front door, need another scale haha They are a good tool to keep you on track if used properly, you can,t get on them ten times aday as your weight verys... and then the depresson sets in? One time aday. well you gal's have agood night hope that you are meeting your weight loss goals

Lisa, I'm in the same boat. I got out of my excercise routine when I got that nasty dog bite and haven't been able to motivate myself since. Even my family doctor nagged me about getting my weight loss going again. I haven't gained but have definitely stayed the same. Everyone even keeps telling me I look like I've lost but I have to admit that I haven't. I try to explain it away as toning up. LOL. I need to get back on the program. I still pb too often and have a tough time eating before noon but I have been a chocolate hog all summer. I've been avoiding the computer too (I've been working too hard and always feel too tired and behind to even turn the thing on). Glad to see your still here and I promise to get on here longer soon. Love and hugs, Teresa

The picture from the last meeting
Mrs Sabre replied to Dragonwillow's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Dr. Timothy Kuwada does lap-band at CMC. I don't know if he goes to Presbyterian or not. I got his name from Inmed (spelling[?], the makers of lap-band), and the weight loss specialist I saw last week knows of him and approved. Maybe this is an option for you? -
Explain your perfect restriction and how much you could eat
taylorrae9 replied to Monica's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
A perfect fill is so personal. I had a 2nd fill but when I asked the doctor if I was too tight he said I was trying to eat too much and needed to keep it under 600 calories. When I kept it small is was a lot better and I started to feel like the fill was good. Now a slice of bacon can come back on me. So I started eating soft food more and more. So now I think it is too tight because I am still Pb'ing when I never did before this fill. I even tried to drink fluids in case I was swollen so now I am calling to have it reduced. I think a perfect fill is when you can actually eat what is expected even though the weight loss has been nice I am eagar to have it fixed. I am tired and hungry and am interested in feeling better and less run down. I used vit's and protien drinks but it is not enough. SO everyone can handle things differently. At least that is what I think. <a href="http://www.TickerFactory.com/"> <img border="0" src="<A href="http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/d/3;10731;125;0;0/c/-50/t/-82/k/e2a1/weight.png"></a">http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/d/3;10731;125;0;0/c/-50/t/-82/k/e2a1/weight.png"></a> -
Explain your perfect restriction and how much you could eat
Monica replied to Monica's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
porclndoll, From my experience this is restriction!!! I get the same dull ache, but mine usually only lasts between 2 and 10 minutes long. I have only slimed and vomited twice after these ache moments. I am trying to get better at finding the soft stopping point before the dull pain starts.....It's a big learning process though...My fill took a few weeks to really kick in, now I feel like I'm in a good spot (for now!!) Good Luck, Monica Banded March 2, 2005 Dr. Ortiz/Martinez 185 at surgery, 166 today (Average monthly loss=6lbs./mo)
