5 days post op and I'm hungry!
turtle5569 replied to turtle5569's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's funny that you said they took you for ice cream. Day two for me the nurse brought me a Lala light yogurt. I said are you sure, I can have this? My paper work says I can't have yogurt for till week 2. My surgery was also in Tiajuna???? Congratulations on your success!! Turtle5559 -
I have always been able to tolerate seafood over chicken, pork or beef. As far as seafood salad is concerned, I guess that depends on what's in the salad. Is it just tuna and mayo/yogurt? ---or does it have celery, nuts and/or dried fruit in it? Seafood is a wonderful, healthy Protein source. Just make sure that it is of a consistency that you can tolerate at your level. Enjoy!!!

week 2 - trouble getting in protein
maredarlin posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone. I'm ten days out since my surgery and I'm on the full liquid diet. My issue is that I'm having real trouble getting in my Protein. My nutritionist info says I should be at 60-70 during this phase and I'm at 40 if I'm lucky. I've tried a bunch of Protein shakes. I've tried blending, I've tried the pre-made and they just make me feel filled up after two small sips. I've been able to handle the New whey Liquid Protein if I Water it down with a lot of water...but my nutritionist wants me moving away from that to the protein powder/shakes as I progress. Weirdly, I can handle 1/2 a pudding cup or 1/2 greek yogurt at a time, so I do add unflavored protein to that, but I'm just not getting in the shakes on my meal plan I'm supposed and I don't know what else to try. It's not about taste either...it's just about the actually being able to drink it. -
Any Sleevers Who Are 5 - 10 Years Out?
Valentina replied to Lyle S. Tucker's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hell on earth? Basically.. some people's sleeves (mine included at least right now) cannot tolerate certain foods and when they eat those foods it causes immediate and severe diaherria, nausea, (and at least in my case vomitting). I'm talking where you're in front of the toilet and it's coming out both ends for several hours - at least that's my experience with it. However, you can avoid it by avoiding the foods that cause it if you ever experience it. For instance, Right now that means I can't have any ice cream (which is very sad as I love ice cream). I dislike yogurt but I found out that I do like frozen yogurt so I've been eating that to fulfill my ice cream craving (once in a while only!) and it's made it bearable lol. Sometimes dumping syndrome and the foods you can't eat fade over time post surgery for those who have it and sometimes they do not, but it's less common in sleeve patients than in gastric bypass patients. Foods that are likely to cause dumping syndrome include: any sugary foods or drinks, pastas, breads, rice etc. Wow. That sounds horrible. Sent from my Z970 using the BariatricPal App It's not pleasant, but I have grown to accept it as another "tool". Dumping keeps me honest and on track. Believe me, once you've experienced dumping you will try VERY hard not to have it again. Sooo, I don't eat Pasta, rice, bread, anything overly sweet, rich, or spicy. sounds like good bariatric thinking, right? That's why I don't regret that I am one of the 17%! -
Wish I knew ahead of time what my tummy likes - wasting food and money

Here is a warning........thinking about food and looking at food (Food Porn), will cause you to have serious head hunger. It is likely you are actually dealing with that given the hunger hormone was severed when they removed 90% of your stomach. In the early stages it is best to think about just meeting your Protein goals and it sounds like you are able to eat eggs, turkey, chicken.....stuff like that. I know I really struggled with Greek yogurt as well but found flavors that I could tolerate an slowly I actually began to like Greek yogurt. I like the Chobani flips. Same thing with cottage cheese which is a great protein source. I also look for ways to eat ricotta cheese and I now LOVE it. It is one of my favorites. It's even better when you can have fruit which I was allowed at 4 weeks. A grilled peach with a large spoon full of Splenda sweetened or natural honey is absolutely delicious. I use a small amount of honey because I am alergic to artificial sweeteners. -

Crushed Warfarin/Coumadin is Nasty. How do I hide the taste?
heidikat72 replied to Nikki Bailey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
how large is the pill? you may be able to take it whole by now. Otherwise, I'm afraid you will just have to deal with the taste until you can take them whole. The yogurt and pudding are the best options for masking the taste but honestly, drugs tend to have a bitter taste anyway (which is part of the reason we take them in tablet or capsule form so you don't taste it) and nothing will completely take that away. -

Crushed Warfarin/Coumadin is Nasty. How do I hide the taste?
Nikki Bailey posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 2 days sleeve post op and have to start back on my regular 10 mg/day dose of Warfarin. (I have a blood clotting disorder.) So far, I've tried the crushed pill in yogurt and chocolate pudding. Both made my tongue burn and were just generally disgusting. What other liquids/foods have people tried to disguise their meds? Remember, I'm still on liquid diet and can only have yogurt, soup and pudding for foods. -

Wish I knew ahead of time what my tummy likes - wasting food and money
trekker954 posted a topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I'm a month out. I was cleared for soft and mushie foods from day 12. I'm not fond of Greek yogurt or cottage cheese. I guess I'm picky. I'm not cleared for vegetables or fruit yet. I can't wait so I can make the foods a little more tasty. I've been okay with eggs, cheese, tuna, chicken/turkey. This week I tried shrimp and deli roast beef. Neither worked for me. I just couldn't chew enough to get it liquid enough, nor did I enjoy the task - so quickly gave it to my dog (who I think is gaining weight). I had some liverwurst, which was easy to eat and delicious. Although my NUT said Okay, just not to eat too much because of the high fat. I'm not a big fish eater, but I think I have to take the plunge and try some recipes since my go to shell fish isn't working. I'm bored and I'm very hungry at times. I'm meeting my protein/water goals, supplementing Premier Protein, although some days I gag at the thought of drinking another one. I do like the ricotta bake, but add a little lite tomato sauce to it. If I could do more than one yolk a day, I'd be happy, but I stick to the plan. Since 6 weeks including my 2 week pre surgery diet, I'm down 25 pounds. -

2nd Week Food Options
maredarlin replied to NewAdventure2016's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been struggling to get my Protein in so they told me to eat some Oikos Triple yogurt and add unflavored protein. Still can't eat much, but I'm getting more in. A friend, who had the surgery awhile ago, also gave me some of the nectar protein that you can just add to drinks. I have the lemon-flavored one. I use some of that and add a little crystal light to a Water bottle. -
I had my surgery on 8/19/2016 and I am still on the puréed foods part of my diet. First couple of weeks my stomach tolerated everything (yogurts, refried Beans, different temperature waters, cottage cheese, foods from my approved list). I watch carbs and sugars. However, it's like my new pouch woke up this week and now every time I eat something I dump (yuck!). It's got to the point now even thinking about food is starting to make me sick. Will this go away or is this something that I need to adapt to? Also, what are some basic foods that are super easy for the pouch to tolerate? Like brands of yogurt (or if some people just can't eat yogurt). Please help as going to restroom as soon as I finish is making me sick. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

WEEK 3.5 POST-OP GASTRIC SLEEVE
maggie'smom replied to Nenniebelle's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm at 4 weeks post-op and having a few issues that I pray are temporary. I can't stand water, flavored or plain. I'm drinking, but it is awful tasting to me. I can't stand the same protein shakes I drank pre-op and yogurt is sickening to me. I am eating cream soups with protein added, but only because I have to eat something. I lost 40 lbs. before wls and only 10 since. I didn't expect it to come off quickly, but I didn't expect food to be repulsive either.Acid reflux keeps me awake at night and my stomach aches most all the time, not hunger just dull feeling. I kow this is probably not too abnormal, but need encouragement that it will pass. -
How much should I be able to eat
Dub replied to gustavio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nor was I trying to be rude. Many plans vary in food type it would seem. Fruit wasn't on mine for a long while. Bananas are certainly a food that I'll enjoy on occasion in the future once my weight loss is done and I'm on cruise control. I can see adding it to a Fiber rich Breakfast Cereal. To specifically answer your question....I really don't know. I ate the portion size that I was instructed to eat at the various checkups with my surgeon. If I eat too fast I'll get the full feeling and I don't like it. I can say this......in the early days there wasn't much restriction noted by me with the Protein shakes or yogurt. Once I advanced to chicken, steak and the like it was absolutely noticeable and has been to this very day. I pray it is there forever. -
Why Pre Op Liquid Diet Variations?
lelewatson replied to bellalulu's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Awesome. And be glad that's all you have to do. One day is easy peasy. And do cut the portions in half because I did that and to some miraculous surprise when I went w my hubby to eat a normal meal. I couldn't and I still can't. And truly I was amazed. For one, even though I wasn't a big binge eater or an all day snacker, when I ate my main meal, I ate. So I know the size of my meals and how I get hungry and normally eat. To my surprise my stomach shrunk. I didn't lose anything because of my daily insulin shots but I saw the portions go way down and so did my jelly belly. Lol now it's back on full liquids and shakes, broth and yogurts. Good luck though. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Thanks. Sent from my VS985 4G using the BariatricPal App -
Can you try a different kind? My center gave me juice ones then today (5days out) I switch to the one you add milk to. But I heard pure Protein taste the best. I also heard put the Protein powder in your yogurt or something. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

2nd Week Food Options
SandyinFL replied to NewAdventure2016's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had Carnation Instant Breakfast Lite many times, (and still do because I'm three weeks out tomorrow). This was on the list from my doc and nutritionist. Usually, I add a scoop of unflavored Protein powder, too. I finally figured out that using my Bullet smoothie-maker mixes the Carnation mix, protein, and milk together better. It actually tastes pretty good, although I've had to play around with the amount of Protein Powder to add. Even though it's unflavored, it has a little aftertaste if I use the full heaping scoop full. My doc also okayed Cream of Wheat during this full liquid period. I add milk to it, and it really hits the spot. I've also been able to eat sugar free pudding and yogurt. The Oikos Triple Zero is pretty good. I also have had cream of tomato Soup a few times, when my tum-tum is feeling queasy. I don't know what your doc had okayed, though. Seems like every doc is different. -
Eating or Drinking Your Nutrients?
LowBMISleever replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Food and Nutrition
Sleeved 7 weeks ago. I have premier Protein shake for breakfast. Quest protein bar for snack...another bar for lunch...half an atkin's frozen meal for dinner & ANOTHER quest protein bar for my nightly snack. Puts me at about 865 calories & about 100g of protein. I'm sick of all the string cheese, greek yogurt, & deli meat I've been eating, so this is a welcome change. I'm working out pretty hard now, so the calories aren't affecting my weight loss. On days I don't work out, I keep it to 600 calories. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I had the sleeve about 7 months ago. Every time I eat any dense foods I have pain. I also have teeth and mouth problems so chewing is painful for me. Because of these problems a lot of my foods are soft styles. I usually have a Bariatric Pal Protein Hot chocolate for Breakfast. On Tuesdays and Thursday when I work I have a turkey and a cheese stick for lunch. The other 5 days I usually have a Atkins Protein shake. An afternoon snack is usually Seafarer fish sticks or yogurt, hummus and pork rinds. dinner is about 3 ounces of ground or real soft meat or fish, and refried Beans or a bite or 2 of vegetables. By having the two Protein drinks I usually get my 60 to 80 grams of protein.
