    After Surgery

Congrats Sydney! Congrats jillsko1! I'm going in on Wednesday 5/19 along with a bunch of other folks on here. Well, not literally, that would be quite a crowded operating room..... This is a great topic. I should have written a list down to refer to over the last couple weeks when things got tough with the pre-op diet, might have alleviated some of my grumpiness at times:-) Here are some of my things off the top of my head: Having energy throughout the day, not feeling so tired and defeated in the evenings. Playing sports - I was a good athlete once upon a time, and one of my goals is to rediscover that guy. Feeling attractive - I used to look in the mirror sometimes before going out and think to myself that I was a good looking guy! But I've been avoiding mirrors for a long time now. I know that's a bit superficial but I know that guy is in there and I want to feel that confidence again and know that I worked for it. Buying clothes at regular stores - no explanation needed here. Dating - I've used weight as an excuse for too long, even sabotaged relationships with people who found my fat self attractive. That's gonna end. I guess maybe these aren't all "every day" little things, but a lot of people take these things for granted. So I'll add that to the list: I want to take these things for granted too!

    Ready to be sleeved

Hi Ann, I am from NSW too, I had my surgery 13th Feb 2014, My family were I wouldnt say against it but not for it either, they dont understand, simple as that and my mum was just being my mum. I am going into my 4th week post op, I have to say I have had a few hiccups and sometimes I miss eating too but I am 43 and yo yo dieting and exercising my ass off for the rest of my life just wasnt an option for me, I have too many co morbidities that needed addressing ASAP. I am grazing though, I am one of those that still feel hunger and still want to eat, I just cant eat that much at a time, so therefore I find an hour after I eat I am hungry again, Im still off work so I do think that once I go back to work this will settle down. My 19 year old daughter has joined a health fund and plans on doing this surgery herself next year and i will be there to support her when she does. This operation is an individual choice, no one can make this big decision for you. sometimes the pros of having this surgery outweigh the cons if you dont have it

    Pregnancy Opinions

Most doctors recommend 12-18 months after banding before getting pregnant. I definitely agree. I was banded 10/06 and the first 6 months were a breeze! Then the next 8 months were really difficult with band related acid reflux. I am newly pregnant and very happy that I had a full year and a half of getting to know the band before adding the craziness of pregnancy to it as well.
  8. LB i think your looking at this from a slightly wrong view. the AVG sleeve weight loss is 60% of EXCESS weight. From your post it looks like you are only 8-10 from that so barely under avg for the surgery. To get better than avg results you will have have to commit to above avg control of portions and food choice and at the later stages in time that you are in above avg exercise routine. 1. Are you tracking every bite you eat - if not start - myfitnesspal or any other app. 2. Are you watching the sugar content of everything you eat - food tracking app again. 3. Keep carbs complex and avoid simple anything. 4. Turn around every box in your kitchen and if it has more than 5 grams of sugar per serving get rid of it. There is no good sugar. You are still in your first year and avg weight loss continues -albeit slower - for 18 months so you still have time to push past avg and get your goal. Refocus on the mental game. From here on out it is all about the lifestyle changes you have worked on to make new and better habits. I wish you luck and success going forward
  9. Until last night the last soda I had was on 2/19/07, the day before my surgery. Well last night I went out to dinner @ Pei Wei for chinese. @ Pei Wei you have to get your own drink, so I decided to get a little bit of regular Coke. It was probably enough for 2 sips. I just wanted the taste. I started eating my food and I just felt horrible. :sick I thought it was the food and initially I thought that it was the food. I got a little Sprite (big mistake) and I thought it would settle my stomach. The feeling just intensified and it donned on me that it could be the soda. I went to Harris Teeter and got some chewable Gas-X and Pepto Bismol. It did help w/the feeling of nausea. I have really lost my taste for soda over the last 2 months, so why I decided to take that painful 2 sips I have no idea. I am actually glad this happened b/c it helped me to end my relationship w/soda. I really realize that soda is no longer my friend. It will be missed...I guess beer is out too. My nutritionist didn't recommend drinking soda of course, but she said at 2 months out I could try some if I wanted to. I didn't know I would have this effect. Does anyone else have problems tolerating soda? I know this isn't a review on Pei Wei, but it was disappointing...P.F. Chang is much better.

    What to tell the children

My three kids 10, 11 and 15 know why I am having surgery and I even showed them the video that my surgeon showed at the seminar about the sleeve. It helped my kids to be able to visualize what I am having done and they are very understanding and supportive!
  11. I've put off doing this, but here it is: I had lap-band surgery 3 years ago. About 6 months ago I joined WW and at first it really helped me get back on track, eating-wise. Then it made me downright obsessive about it. I was on 29 points/day and thought,"how about 20?"....then I went down to 17, then 10. I was training for a triathlon at the same time (hence the username) and got to the point where I could no longer sustain workouts on that level of intake. Somewhere along the line I started vomitting....a lot. I went back to my surgeon (easily the worst bedside manner in the world) and he blamed it on me, that I should have come in sooner, etc. I had 1 cc in my band and he did a total unfill. That was over a month ago. I'm still vomitting every day. Sometimes 3 times/day. I won't go back to him. My husband is about to deploy and I just don't need one more stressor right now. If that Dr mouths off to me ONE MORE TIME I will walk out. I'm DONE. This is REALLY on my mind b/c I'm getting my teeth cleaned tomorrow and I'm dreading talking to my dental hygienist about it. I've known her for years. I'm rambling. Anyway, ....hi.

From the album: 7months post op

  13. Congratulations on so many things Johnathan. One for your upcoming surgery. I can only imagine how excited that must feel at 10 days. I know how excited I am at 24 days away!! But also a big congratulations for not smoking. I too was a smoker and I will reach my 1 year anniversary in October. I have never felt better. Being a smoker for over 16 years, (started smoking in teen years) I know how difficult quitting is, especially when you quit for yourself! You are doing an awesome job. I wish you all the best in this journey and I hope everything moves very smoothly for you and you have a speedy recovery. Of course we all will be waiting for an update as soon as your feeling up to it. Hope you have a blast in Louisiana.

    GAINED 6 lbs in 2 days ! ?

Sassygirl. That is fabulous!! How long did it take you to get to a size 10. I am still having a problem putting on my pants I was wearing pre op, (all too tight then) It make my tummy sore to put the slightest pressure. So I was going by that dang scale. I will wait another week and try some pre op clothes. I know the wait will all be worth it. Thank you for the advise.

    Full Liquid Diet

10 days after 4 days of clear liquids
  17. Hey all :-) I've been banded for nearly 2 years now and I started my journey at 130kg. I lost 43kg in the first year yet I've slowly put on 10kg the last 10 months. I met my now fiancée a year ago and that's when I started getting "comfortable". I stopped going to the gym and started eating "junket" again (no where near as much as I was). I find if I eat I'm eating more than I use too. I need some tips on how to get back on track and I don't know if I need another fill, or should try the liquid stage again to "shrink" my pouch incase I've stretched it a bit. Any help will be greatly appreciated.... I'm ready to do it properly again I've let myself fall behind the 8 ball.

    Sleeve's A Secret

I have chosen to tell people I care about and with whom I work closely. I am single and live alone, and I will need the support of my community before and after surgery. I've worked with the same people for over 10 years, and with PCOS, nothing I've tried has let me lose more than 18 lbs or so... and it is silly to think they will assume weight watchers if finally working for me. I'd rather be upfront with them, and seek their support on my journey. I am grateful for a loving community, all of whom seem excited for me and my new beginning. I agree that there is no shame in NOT telling. We tend to know whether or not support will be offered from those around us. I have been blessed with overwhelming support from doctors, family, friends, and co-workers. I am grateful
  19. Weight loss often happens in steps down, rather than a continual slope. If I'm constipated that also slows down the weight loss, so keep up your fluids and moving around. It's very common to hit a plateaus around this time. It will pass. I didn't lose anything from 3 to 7 weeks post surgery but now I'm losing 10 lb per month pretty steadily.

    12 Years Out!

There... finally figure out how to add a profile pic lol anyway ... the recovery will be two weeks. 1 week with drains in and a week later I can return to work. What worked for me was recorded history of back pain over 10 years and the weight removal would help... plus threw in some skin issues. LOL wish my wife could pay for mine... she does the benefits here at the hospital. :-)
  21. My surgeon didn't put me on a complete liquid diet. I was allowed 2 protein shakes and one lean cuisine meal everyday for two weeks and I was fine. But to be honest, I cheated a couple of times, but made it. On my surgery date, I found that I still lost 10 pounds. The shakes I used helped me with hunger because of high protein. And I ate my meal late so I wouldn't be awake too long afterwards. Just keep it up, you will make it. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. I just had my surgery 7/19/17, I'm on full liquids and tonight I think I'm experiencing acid reflux...any suggestions on what to do?

I had a great workout last night on the elliptical machine, burned 340 calories! I'm building my strength back up and was able to do over 30 min on it last night. I'm trying to get back to 45 min. Slowly but surely! I have 61 days until my cruise. Here is a challenge to myself - 1) For the next 60 days I will do a minimum of 45 min of cardio 5 days a week. This means I can go down during break and do 15 min on each break = 30 min, and in the evening I will do some at the gym! 2) For the next 60 days I will do strength training a minimum of 3 days a week. 3) For the next 60 days, I will work out 6 days per week! 4) For the next 60 days I will NOT have any chocolate. None! 5) For the next 60 days I will work my abs out 3x per week. I plan on attending the abs abs abs class at the gym. Oh yeah. 6) For the next 60 days I will lose a minimum of 15 lbs, my goal is 20, but will shoot for 15 for sure. 7) For the next 60 days I will focus on my diet - making healthy choices - no cheating. 8) For the next 60 days, I will tan - (already started this) 9) For the next 60 days its all about me! 10) For the next 60 days, I will get out of bed and do some sort of exercise before I get ready for work - even if its just stretching. Yes, just 61 days and I will be sailing out in the ocean! Heading for St. Thomas, St. Marten and Bahamas - I'm so ready for this. I just hope I do better than my cruise last year (when I fell and had to have surgery :w00t:) Okay - I owe, I owe, I owe, so off to work I go..............
  24. Hey guys! I'm new here, I was banded on 12/20/10, so I am almost exactly 3 weeks out. I have done very well, however I am still pretty sore, I don't know, for some reason I just thought this surgery would be a walk in the park. Anyway no pain no gain I guess! I have lost 22 lbs since my surgery date which I'm told is great. I am struggling with a couple things tho and hope that someone can shed some light on this for me. 1) I am trying so hard to get my Water in but just never seem to get more than 30-36 oz a day in so about 1/2 of what I should be consuming. Any suggestions there? 2) I am still on mushy foods until my 6 week appointment and I tell ya I am struggling here big time because NOTHING sounds good to me. Pretty much all I am doing is eating Soup thru the day and then I will try to get some fish or chicken down for dinner. At this point should I only be eating 3 meals a day or eating when I feel hungry??Would a few of you mind giving me a run down of what a days worth of food intake is/was for you at 3 weeks post op?? Any help here would be much appreciated. I look forward to chatting and getting to know some of your stories and so on. I am happy to share anything about myself with anyone interested, just don't want to bore you all. Well I think that is all for now, look forward to hearing some feed back. Thanks!!! =)
