LynRey70 replied to LynRey70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@sferriol hang in there sis its oneday at a time!!! you got this....me Im like can I just smell it? Lick it? Ahhh hunger hit hard!! Just wait till we have skinny girl problems????Lyn,You are so right. I have news to share. First off made it through one more day! Second of all I started this crazy adventure on 6/10/15 weighting in at 318lbs and yesterday I weighed in on 296.5 lbs. I haven't seen 200 in a very long time. This just makes me want to be a good girl. I know there will be days we break down, but like Lyn says..."just can't wait till we have skinny girl problems". Thanks Lyn and anyone else who has taken time from their lives to share their positivity. I needed to hear that. Awe shucks???? your welcome love!! Mama said there'd be days like this....we have all made the decison to change what ever it was in our lives that made us add layer upon layer weather it was to protect us from heartache, rejection, family, molestation, rape, abuse, fear,or comfort...gosh how many times did I hear"Lynn you have such a pertty face.....if you would just take care of your body....but no one offered a solution or cared enough about the fat girl to get to the core of what made me self loath and lose self control. But that is no longer relevant I am just happy that at 45yrs old I now have tool that I will use to dicipline myself and become that healthy beautiful woman that WILL shed years of built up unessisary layers and take pride in knowing that this life altering change we have all undergone that is irreversable we will struggle and fall but we will slowly emerge Renewed transformed and stronger than ever....not cause our society dictates but rather because it is our time to thrive and shine....look out Kardashians,JLo get ready for a whole new bread of women ????% real women who have struggled but overcoming all the hate and cruelty media society and culture threw at us.....I vow that as I become my new self I will do everthing that I can to encourage and help any "Obese person" still trapped in a world of hurt!! -
Well I'm almost weeks out and have lost 19 pounds post op. Not a lot of pounds lost, but the inches are awesome. From a 24 skirt to a 18 and a 22-24 shirt to an 18. Attached is my before n after pic.

Brandy, I used to work for a Curves in Boston. To the best of my knowledge, we never did any sales pitch to people who came by for a free trial workout unless they expressed interest. It isn't a high powered gym or a big pitch to sell, at least in Massachusetts. It's a place where women of all types and sizes workout and enjoy themselves. It does get a little boring when there aren't many people on "the circuit", but it's sometimes less intimidating that way, too. There is a staff member who will show you everything and will walk you through working out. Each machine responds to the amount of effort you put in through air resistance. Thus, the harder you push, the harder it resists. If you want an "easier" workout, just don't push as hard. You spend only 30 seconds on each piece of equipment, then 30 seconds on a "recovery" station. This station allows you to continue moving at your own pace. You are also required to stop and check your heartrate at least twice during the workout. At that time, you count for 10 seconds to determine a goal based on your age. If the rate is too high, you need to workout with less intensity. If your heartrate is too low, then you need to put a little more effort into it. This way it best suits your needs. If you have any old injuries or issues with movement, the staff will assist you to figure out what to do. The first meeting is usually low profile, without sales push. I hope you'll at least tour one near you. For people without previous workout exprience, Curves is very successful in getting them to move and lose! Good luck.

Has Been 4 Days Since Surgery And Down 10 Lbs
Joisey01 replied to SleeveShelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
10 pounds in 4 days is a very nice start, don't you think? GO YOU!!!!!!!! -
I agree with LosingItForMe, I have never heard of this either. Maybe your doctor could suggest what you need to put into the letter. But I'm pretty sure 10 pages would be way too much LOL!

I am weighing in at 209 now. I feel like my weight loss is SOOOO SLLOOOOWWW. I'm down 34 lbs overall, but just 24 lbs since surgery, which was 2.5 months ago. At my 2 month check-in my doc said he was perfectly happy with my weight loss, so I guess I should be too. I'm averaging 10 lbs/month. On the bright side though, i went clothes shopping yesterday How much more fun is clothes shopping now!?!?! I love it! I hit the clearance racks at Walmart and came away with six t-shirts at $3/each. Some 1X, some 2X, but I used to be in men's 2XL/Women's 3XL. Since I live in AZ, t-shirts are a necessity year-round. Bought 2 new hoodies that were both in regular sizes - not plus sized! This was so exciting. The jeans I bought a few weeks ago are getting nice and loose, and those are 2 sizes down from where I started. Yep, clothes shopping is now fun

I had to do the same thing as you. That stuff started to make me nauseous. I ended up leaving 2 cupfulls because I just couldn't drink anymore. But what I did drink did the trick! I was not banded when I had the test done. I'm scheduled to be banded on Monday, 10/1.

August '07 -- Compare pre-op diets
BigHarleyGuy replied to Alexandra's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I started pre op Optifast 800 on May 10. But I had a BMI over 60. My Doc wanted me to reduce that as close to 50 as I could get it before surgery. I think I got down to 57 a week before surgery. He said that would make the surgery easier on both of us. It was hell, but I stayed pretty close until two days before surgery, I just had to have some pizza before banding LOL. Jim -
I was only asked to lose 10 pounds not be on a preop diet. However, my doc did have a link to Optifast which I purchased a 1 week preop diet of 2 shakes in the morning and one prepackaged meal for dinner. It's only 500 calories though and I'm a nursing mommy. I am going to try and throw in a few healthy snacks with it. I really should eat AT LEAST 1000 calories per day to keep my milk up.

Has Anyone Successfully Completed The Couch To 5K Program?
his_spirit replied to ~sara_d~'s topic in Fitness & Exercise
Many many years ago (feels like another lifetime) I was a runner. I loved it and it always made me upset with myself that I have become so fat and out of shape. Every attempt I have made to lose the weight and get back on track have failed (obviously why I am here). Now I am nearly 10 days post op and feel optimistic and a renewed sense of self confidence that I felt I had lost. Reading about the program on here was a wonderful surprise and I am totally excited for when I will be able to start this. Never heard of it before. I am wondering for you all that have done this program how soon you were able to start after being banded? I just got myself a gym membership and can hardly wait. -
I just had my surgery on 3/10, and the Dr. knew that I had a small hiatal hernia, which she said she would fix during the surgery. She did just that. I am going back for a post-up visit on Friday, so I will hopefully get some more information then, because I am having some occassional pain in that area, and I am not sure if it is where the hernia was fixed, or if it is gas.......... Good luck to you!

August '07 -- Compare pre-op diets
madfroglady replied to Alexandra's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Man oh man my docs must be strict. I have to do 4.5 weeks of liquid diet. first 9 days I could have 4 oz of lean Protein and 1.5 cups green veggies per day plus 4 medifast shakes. Now for the last 3 weeks, all I can have is 5 medifast shakes per day. No food and no diet beverages at all. Whew! I know I can do it, but it is tough! (Let's face it folks, I didn't get to 250+ by liking to be HUNGRY!!!) I lost 10 pounds in the first 9 days. The hardest parts are cooking/fixing meals for my kids and DH, plus I have 2 conferences between now and then where I am going to be out of town. I'm planning on going off it twice this week: one salad and one small meal. But otherwise, that's it. The madfroglady. Banding on 8/14/07 -
here are my doc's guidelines: FYI ONLY:this is the info provided by the Bariatric Clinic that i am using liquid DIET GUIDELINES PRE- WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY 1. Choose 3 "liquid calorie meals" per day. DO NOT drink liquids that contain more than 10 calories at any other time of the day. 2. Each "liquid meal" will consist of 1 cup (8 oz) of liquids that contains Protein and calories. (see options below) 3. Drink your "liquid meal" over a 30-45 minute period. 4. Drink only non-calorie beverages at other times of the day. It is important to stay hydrated. EXAMPLES OF "LIQUID MEAL" BEVERAGE CHOICES: · Skim or 1% milk · Carnation Instant Breakfast (sugar-free) made with skim or 1% milk · Ready-made liquid supplements (Ensure, Boost, Slim Fast) · Yogurt smoothie · Soy milk · Creamed Soups REMEMBER: The above liquids ARE NOT appropriate after you start eating foods again. TIPS: 1. Try having low-sodium chicken broth to help you feel full 2. Eat sugar-free Jello or sugar-free Popsicles between meals, if you start to feel hungry. 3. Avoid places and social situations where food is the primary focus, or bring your liquid meal with you. 4. Stay busy 5. Avoid watching TV commercials--most of them are about food! 6. Ask a friend to try doing the liquid diet with you. 7. Drink plenty of non-calorie fluids. Keeping your stomach full of non-calorie liquids will help to decrease hunger.

Pregnant And Scared, Please Help!!!!!
Ryanband07 posted a topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Hello y'all Ok so it's a new year and I just found out this afternoon that i'm pregnant. I think the 10 preg test that I took confirm it. Seeing as how it's friday both my OBGYN and my lapband doc office's were closed. I'm stressing out when I should be happy. I'm scared for 2 reason's. The first is that my first child who is now 2 yrs old was born 3 months early and was in the hospital for 4 months and almost didn't make it. I of course think this will happen again. Seeing as how my doc told me that pregnancy was next to impossible after my first child I never thought this would or could happen. The second reason i'm freaking out is bc of my band. I will be 1 yr post op on Jan 24th and have lost 90 lbs I've worked so hard to loose this weight and now I feel like i'm just going to gain it all back. I realize some people might see this as being very selfish but, this is a concern of mine. I've been "fat" all my life and DO NOT want to be fat ever again. I also wonder how many people out there have ben pregnant w/ the band and what their pregnancy was like. I'm looking for any advice I can get so please help. I hope to hear from some people who have been pregnant, know some one or are curretly expecting to help calm my nerves. PLEASE HELP!!!!! -
Hi Alexandra, I started my preop diet today; it will last 10 days. I can have only 2-3 protein shakes (Unjury) , water, crystal light, 3 SF pops, low fat cottage cheese. This is going to be a tough 10 days.

is anyone so tight they can't drink in the morning?
sharon2u replied to Yvonne's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yvonne,hi I ahve the same problem, sometimes I am tight all the way until dinner and then I get a few bites in. I told my nurse about this a week or so when I had nmy last fill, she said that I need to be careful for she thinks I am maxing out. I have a 10 cc band and 3 1/2 ccs filled. She said that drinking hot fluids might make it easier, so I have been drinking hot tea (Olong) I have a lot of times to where I will have a BP oh say about 3 times daily after I get filled then it balances itself out. Like you I am dropping weight right and left. The Dr. cannot believe it, he alwasys greets me by saying well Sharon how are you doing other than losing weight and we have a laugh about it. Today I weighed in at 199 pounds wow I used to weigh 279 pounds. I have lost since january 30, 2008 12 pounds more. Exercise and walking is my big helper and just not wanting to re gain weight is the other motivator, plus after looking at a lot of pictures of me from the past there is no way that I will ever go back to being fat again. I tried on my first pair of summer pants a size 12-14 a far cry from the 24 I used to wear. I also pray everynight for God to give me the strength to keep going and I know that he ahs heard me many times over. -
My rant on revision from vsg to sips
Inner Surfer Girl replied to DingyDeb's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am so sorry this happened to you. It sounds very frustrating. I know that the consent forms I signed said that if the surgeon needed to make a change in procedure on the fly because of what he finds when he opens me up he could. But, to have a surgeon perform a surgery based on a conversation he THINKS he had with you without documentation is scary. I truly hope that even though this wasn't what you hoped or wanted to happen that you will be successful. One thing I noted in your follow up was that you have lost 8 lbs but feel you should have lost 10-15 pounds. I am not aware of any surgeon being able to predict weight loss that specifically. I am sure that 8 pounds is within a range that is expected as much as 15 pounds is. No one knows how much we will lose and how our bodies will respond right after surgery whatever procedure you have. -
Low carb not working
Heather I replied to elvis3734's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is a TON of sodium on soy/teriyake sauce, and I believe the carb content is a little high, too. Your stir fry may be doing you in. I'm doing the pre-op diet/low carb diet now, and I throw in 20 ounces of Water in between every snack/shake. It REALLY helps tamp down the hunger. The diet isn't as horrible as I thought it would be, on day 6 and down almost 10 lbs. And if you are bound up, I have one black coffee in the morning with my vanilla Protein shake as creamer. I've slowed down from my usual daily, ahem, bathroom break, but definitely not constipated. -
Carbs are sneaky. "Carb Creep" will get you every time. I suspect they are higher than you realize. Re-count. When (hint to self) I get on a low carb diet I have to be no more more than 25-40 grams a DAY to lose anything. Also, look at total carbs, not the carb minus Fiber or sugar alcohol-but total carbs. sugar free is not carb free. Additionally, since the carbs are at night they are not getting burned off. (So for example, 3 Popsicle pops at 4 grams each is 12 grams at the very end of the day). The Premier shake has 5 total-so then there is 10 grams there. Plus, now you have dressing (check the carb count and the amount you are using). Then everything else. Try pickle pops to curb sugar urges and add more Water? More water might help.

My rant on revision from vsg to sips
Peggy D replied to DingyDeb's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My starting weight was 303 on my scale. I had the gastric sleeve done on 8-22-2013. My weight the day before surgery was 259, a loss of 44 pounds in 4 months pre-op. Over the next 5 months or so I lost about 33 pounds & then I stalled. Nothing would break the stall. I did lose another 5 pounds over the next 10 months. On 12-8-2014 I had a panniculectomy where my surgeon removed 15 pounds (!) of excess skin & fat. This was covered by insurance since I had documentation of recurring severe rashes under the "apron." I did hit a low of 201 pounds about two months after the panniculectomy but that was very briefly & I have gradually regained to a weight of 218. My BMI was still just over 35 & I still have the co-morbidities, although markedly improved, that I did when I started. I can’t say the sleeve didn’t work. After all, I was down 84 pounds from my starting weight & 95 pounds from my highest weight. When they say patients lose an average of 65% of their excess weight, there are many on both sides of that average. I’m just one of the lower percentage people. So, after much consideration I decided to have the duodenal switch as my surgeon originally suggested. The major malabsorption of the classic duodenal switch still scares me so I had decided to ask Dr Srikanth if he would do a longer common channel when I learned of the single anastomosis duodenal switch, AKA loop DS or SIPS, which has an even longer common channel. He & I agreed on a 300 cm common channel which I am comfortable with. I got insurance approval one week after I completed the pre-op testing. On December 29, 2015, I had a revision of the sleeve, the loop DS & an hiatal hernia repair. Recovery has been a bit rocky. A week & a half ago I spent the afternoon & early evening in the ER getting IV fluids & a CT scan because I was having difficulty getting my fluids & Protein in & was vomiting quite a bit - four times just that morning. Two days later I had a repeat upper endoscopy & my surgeon dilated two strictures in my sleeve. There was still a lot of edema in the stomach but I'm doing much better now. I do wish there was a way to speed up resolution of the edema. I still feel a lot more restriction, especially in the afternoon & evening, than I ever did with the initial sleeve. -
Im gonna lose my stomach?????
marfar7 replied to AngelaMoniq's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am also a band to sleeve revision. When I got the band in 2009, that was a selling point - that it was reversible. But, as I started to lose weight, I wanted it to be permanent, not temporarily. Why would u want something temporarily? I thought the same thing. God put this organ in my body for a reason and would I regret losing most of it? Not yet. I'm 10 mths out and don't regret it for a second. 15% is all u really need. Good luck! -
I was banded on 7-10-08. In the first two weeks, I also experienced some back pain. I didn't even say anything to my doctor cause I thought it was normal. Now I'm in my third week post-op and I haven't had any pain for a couple days. If you are that uncomfortable and can't sleep, that definitley sounds like a red flag to me. :confused2: I would get checked out. Good luck to ya and hope your feeling better soon!
